Spare parts to gold? Good thing I boosted a Goblin then for Mechagon heheheheh.
I play on a "dead realm",the AH is slow and most of the items are hard to sell. The shuffle you mention as a option is only viable if you have alot of free time to play the game. The competition is smaller but the buyers are also way less.I use a alt for the AH, it helps alot to manage the inventory.
I play on a low server and i have a dedicated AH alt, and an guild bank. im using various toys and items to make the travel more efficient
I can't imagine NOT having an auction alt, beyond useful just for the organization factor alone.
Glad to see that Cooking is making people regular Gold revenue again. I've been looking to switch up my revenue streams and this looks like it's time to cycle Cooking back into the mix.
One thing that piqued my interests is how Cathbadh mentioned she waits until certain days to sell certain mats. I had never considered that the trends of valuable mats and trade goods might be different at certain times throughout each week. I wonder if there's a way to figure this out? I wish Cath would go more into this for us!
I have one dedicated bank toon, a level 3 hunter that lives in the Auction House, I do, however, do Auction House things on my Enchanter mage just because enchants are high turnover and I don't want to have to make things and send them when I can just port to a city and post replacements or undercuts.
I primarily used my main as my seller up until BfA but rapidly converted after the additions of Nazjatar and Mechagon which completely obliterated my bag space and stuffed my bank to overflowing. Subsequently I took an alt whose class I wasn't enjoying all expansion and converted her into my auctioneer as her reagent bank was empty and a few 30-slot bags had her ready to go. If mats and other item continue to pile up, a guild bank alt will be the next step up.
I appreciate the tips for low pop servers. My Horde chars are on a low pop server and it gets rough sometimes, but at other times the low pop seems to be a real help. When I'm xmog hunting, for example, my high pop Alli server will have about 30x as many of an item and usually 5x the price than the low pop Horde server. Seems backwards, as you'd think with more supply the cost would go down. But it works completely opposite for the most part.
Im play on low realm and I've found battle pets, some transmog gears, herbs, flasks, sell better on low pop servers. Because there are few competitors on these realms, thus the price is higher.
I am not a "professional" gold maker, so only one bank character works for me. Probably would use second, if I run out of space on the first one.
i used a dedicated auctioning toon once i started going higher volumes, to save on bag space and mailbox space. my lvl 1s are richer than my max level toons :D
My realm has approx 190k characters and i find that as long as i stay away from to many transmog items (as they sell to slow) then i'm normally ok, crafting is the way to go, find out your servers main raid days and post the most useful food/flasks that day, the rest of the days i buy cheap or farm the mats, doesnt make crazy amounts but is enough to not have to worry about gold in the long run.
I went an entirely different route in Mechagon - Microbots and rep tokens. The tokens ill be saving for dmf week, but that expedites your emissary. The Microbots make a bit of cash too, and they need you to go paragon so there's a good time gap til others can make em. Plus, that also lets you sell the parts you get from the junkyard for the daily rep recycle too.
I'm nowhere near MDI levels or anything, but my guild is well-progressed, established and live since Vanilla, and our core members are well known. This has impact, because once you're like that, you don't really always want your money operations to be overly transparent. For that reason, I established a banker, and later bought her a guild, and ensured that there's as little connections between her and me as possible, including going into "appear offline" whenever I head over to do business. The alt got level 20 so she can ride, and then xp-locked so she'd stay accessible even if I let my subscription lapse for some reason. Sure, no AH or mail access when lapsed, but still.I had been shoving everything over to that toon so I can deal with AH with one fell swoop... and extra storage in form of her 5-tab bank was always help, too. However for me, the biggest asset is total separation of play and business - when I head onto that toon, there's even a different set of addons that don't load for anyone else, since Pandaria-era merges made it possible for me to put reroll that AH toon on a separate server that was announced to be joining our cluster.
I have 11 alts 110 or High and i make gold in mop with the tiller and with the farm i make ore, in bfa there's a very good method : Transmute: Herbs to Anchor, I also tend to be attentive to war supply and wq if there's any good item.
My main and 5 alts are part of the "pocket" guild(actually consisting of one player - me). All valuable/craft dispatched by the alts to main(usually via Guild Bank) and then main conducts all buy/sell at the auction. I believe that this is optimal strategy for gold-making.
I do separate my gold-making activities between characters. I have 3 AH alts: 1 for pets, 1 for xmog, and 1 for trade goods. I have a guild bank setup for storing excess xmog inventory.According to RealmPop, my server is in the 150k characters range, so it's small, but not the smallest. I have not really considered different strategies, but I've never played on larger servers, so... I mostly just go with region pricing with a range of adjustments for current server pricing. I'm not swimming in gold, but my gold-making practices keep the lights on.
I definitely have banking/auctioning alts, one for Horde and one for Alliance. I need the convenience of being able to mail off all things for the AH, and not needing to remember what is for what in my bags. Not at the stage where I'm using the guild bank yet though!
