They aren't forcing you to install Overwolf (though maybe you should try it, it's different now). They said it will be a standalone mod manager.Millennials !@#$%ing about ads in free software, get a grip. You used to have to pay for everything or install it with adware that was way worse than a banner at the bottom.I am glad the gaming industry has moved to a state where it has to generate revenue on these apps. It means much better quality programs then we've had in the past... Anyone remember the original curse app? I will be paying the sub fee.I have hated the twitch app. The sole purpose it is on my desktop is for WoW add-ons but that is an afterthought on the Twitch app design. Nothing against the twitch app in general, just WoW add-ons were implemented terribly. Now if only Overwolf can somehow get ElvUI to auto update instead of using their terrible standalone updater.
blizzard, make your own addon platform. like steam.
In short it sounds like “we’ll sell your user data/info to 3rd parties then pretend we spend the money on creators.
CurseForge being its own app is definitely a good change, I had Twitch app purely for that anyway. Not sure why people complain about Overwolf app when this is not going to be part of that, but separate app.
I remember once using the Overwolf app years ago. It was horrible and I uninstalled it right away. I hope they learned their lessons, but this is a surprising move.
Blizzard needs an official way to introduce addons. This is becoming ridiculous.I have no intentions to download yet another App to use addons. I'll just stick to the old-school way and manually download addons from now on.
Thank goodness, now I NEVER have to see Twitch again *happy noises*
Back to manually installing, Will not be touching Overwolf.
I don't like this. Overworld overlay was kind of invasive, bloated and usually broken. Their eagerness to get the ads in there is pretty indicative of what we can expect. I think I better get used manually loading my mods again.
Somebody needs to write a desktop program that replaces both of these things and just hooks into the curseforge web api for addon updates.
Ive used Overwolf before and its a piece of crap. Curseforge should just go back to their own app instead of relying on a third party.
Good, Twitch is garbage.
For those seeking an alternative you might want to check out CurseBreaker
Well at least they sold it and didn't just shut it down. I have been wondering how long Amazon would keep CurseForge in the fold.
look like it's going to pay to use addons now
Coming in Q4... Right in time for shadowlands... A new expac.. When all addons break. I see a sh1tsh0w ahead
