Strange decision... I only play wow and starcraft and I have never heard of overwolf, judging from the comments it sounds dodgy and I am not going to use it, will go back to managing addons the old way. This sucks so badly.
Finally started using the twitch client to watch streams, after years of using it for addons... and now I have to download a new client :P Ah well, looks like they are promising to treat content creators well, and that's pretty important. Exciting to see that addon creators might be seeing a little more money coming their way, especially because they create and maintain all of these essential WoW tools for people to use absolutely free. Content creators are the unsung heroes of society lol
If you look at overwolf settings there are maybe 200 ad networks it is collecting your data for. And it isn't just visiting a website, it's tracking everything about your computer. They have managed to develop minor game functionality to piggy-back on powerful machines and hope that people don't question why an overlay needs 20% of their processing power.
Does that mean I have to install all addons again on overwolf?
I'm so happy to be moving away from the Twitch app. I just hope the new client isn't an Electron heavy mess. And for the people hating on Overwolf - yeah, I don't like it either, but they won't force us to install it.
Probably what everyone is thinking, I’m just saying it: What is Overwolf?Seriously, I had to google it to see what it was and I’ve played WoW since 2006.
Yeah, that's a hard pass for me.
In legendary Akama's words ...
Overwolf is a bit dodgy, I think I've used it for minecraft mods back in the day? But I HATE the twitch client. It pains me to have to run it to see what needs updating. Good news :)
using their subscription and ad revenue model! What! No thanks im not using this and paying for ad free client. it was free on twitch now i have to install some new thing that steals data and wants you to pay now? hell no.. Why is no one else worried about this?
Twitch has to find money from somewhere to pay for Ninja and Shroud...again.
Guess I'll go back to the days of all-manual add-on management.
