You'll have to run around the ruins for a bit, looting every little kitty statue you see. One will randomly spawn Ghost Saber (was lvl 20 for me). So you have an idea how long it'll take, I got it on my 8th statue.

Hunters can tame these when they are summoned. You have to click on the cat figurines to summon them. They are not always summoned though. When they are tamed they have a "transparent" look to them WITHOUT the "prowl" ability.

I would recommend being at least level 20 when doing this because it will randomly spawn as a level 19 or 20 and you cannot tame it if it spawns as level 20 and your only level 19.

The pets attack speed is 2.0 and comes with claw rank 3.

They will die naturally after being tamed, as a despawn feature of the mob. Don't worry, just revive him and he's yours!

I have a 19 Twink Hunter and had to have a 70 Rogue friend clear the Nagas from around the temple. Just click on the small cat statues. If you are lucky, then a Ghost Saber will appear and start attacking. If not, then you get a cat statue to put in your bag. It took 8 statues before I got my saber and luckily it was a 19! I just put Gift of Narruu on me before I clicked the statue and it heals me while the saber is beating on me during the taming process. A priest shield would work fine too. He comes with Claw 3 and is good to go into WSG.

I caught this cat on a 20 Twink Hunter too, the Nagas were too hard for me, so I got one of my friends to come in and clear them all out. I opened 10 that day, and my friend opened 10 and we got four cats, but each time they killed me. We tried together for around 2 hours yesterday and I spent around 6 hours on this alone (Lol, talk about determined, I was a 19 that day, I leveled up to 20 though). Okay, so today I walked out again (I'm on the Horde) and opened 2. Luckily, the second one was a winner! =D I tried to tame the Ghost Saber without the ice trap and sadly died again. I rezed and it was still there, I healed up and got it! Such a lovely pet to have, lol in The Crossroads I got so many compliments =) So in a nutshell, it's a very lengthy process, good luck to everbody else who wants one! =D

I notice a lot of people almost died taming these guys...Drop a freezing trap at your feet whenever you loot a figurine. It'll give you plenty of time to abandon the temporary pet you're using to clear out the naga and get a head start on taming your saber. I had about half health when I tamed mine despite some crits and crushes. Also make sure to switch to aspect of the monkey before you loot the figurines to avoid a blow or two.

I noticed the pet died after about 5 mins as others reported, and when I revived him he was very unhappy just like any other death. Don't forget to re-freed your pet after his initial death!

Yep - 8 statuettes to get him, took me half an hour or so to find the damn things... tamed him very easily (as a lvl 30 hunter) and off I go.
As everyone else says, he dies on you pretty early on but the revive pet works and he's yours then...

It's a good thing he likes clam meat, as you get a couple of stacks of it from killing all the mobs around the place =)

Another winning pet, it took me about 30 minutes to grab him, I took a Ghostpaw Runner with me and we had to kill about 20-25 fish people all together. I moved all along the outside of the perimeter killing them one at a time, and then moved into the center a bit. I only found 4 cat figurines. After 30 minutes or so I found the 4th one, cleared out the area and opened it, the Ghost Cat came out and started attaching us, I laid down a ice trap, backed up, he got caught, I said a sad farewell my Ghostpaw Runner and started taming. Got him on the first try, man this guy eats a lot, but he looks and acts so cool. If you like collecting pets this one belongs in your stable for a fun run from time to time.

It took me 6 figurines to spawn the first cat which was level 20, and I am level 19 so I had to kill it and try again. The very next figurine spawned my level 19 transparent kitty, altogether it took about 15 minutes with my 70 friend clearing the naga. He looted 12 figurines before it spawned for him. Nice looking kitty, figurines are a tad hard to find and don't respawn quickly.

I didn't have a hard time with my life while taming the cat, I am a twink in the making though so if you don't have blues I'd suggest dragging along a higher level hunter friend to freeze him.

He did die after about 5 minutes by the way, strange but consistent with the other comments.

Note that this cat, when tamed, makes no noise when it stretches. A very quiet companion till you send it in to fight. I was surprised at how noisy other cats were when I encountered other hunters.

It is important to be level 20! (or higher)

I walked all the way to northern Darkshore as a Horde level 19 Hunter to tame this cat. After two hours, and 9 statues later, I found a cat statue that spawned a level 20 Ghost Saber and I was not high enough to tame it. Needless to say, later I leveled to 20 and tamed my Ghost Saber. It never died on me nor disappeared.

I'm a horde hunter (troll) and it took me 16 figurines to get it, so that answers your question, Crymiel. I can confirm that it died exactly 5 minutes after taming it (checked timestamps), but I just resurrected it and so far so good.

Blah, most annoying pet ever to get. I was lvl 19 when I got him. Seemed like it took forever and a day. On my first few kitty statues I got one .. but accidentally killed it, ha ha ha. Wasn't prepared at all. The 2nd time it was lvl 20 :( ... and finally tried again the next day and got a 19 one. :) This is definitely my favorite pet. :)

I've tame one of these at lvl 19 for my twink. However it stays loyalty lvl 1, but it didn't die. A GM told me to wait a few days and try again. He was unaware of this.

I tamed a Ghost Saber (it took me 8 cat figurines if anyone is intrested). It did die after some 5mins as someone has noticed earlier.

Anyway, to the problem. I have xp'ed the pet from 19 to 22, but she does not increase in loyality level, she remains rebelious (level 1).

I contacted a GM about the problem. The GM simply told me they dont assist players with such in-game questions. Anyone knows Ghost Saber always remains rebelious?

I picked mine up when i was lvl 60. This was about 3 wks before BC released and my pet was lvl 19. I didn't enter outland until this pet hit lvl 60. It was a pain but it was worth it. At high lvls try grinding the elite bugs in silithus or the elite giants in WS. Best way to get the pet xp...but this only works at lvl 67 and lower.

I have lvled BT, and the named black raptor from barrens and Rak'shiri. So lvling this one wasnt so bad. Still one of the coolest cats in the game though.

Yes, mine died about 5 min after taming. But, it did pass loyalty lvl 1 without an issue. Mine is now lvl 70 and named Deception. (I also have a Grove stalker Lynx named Wrath. (Wish I'd have gone for a BE kitty though. Still might...who knows.)

I spent probably 3 hours out there trying to get this cat. After having a night elf chase me down (I won still) run out of food, arrows and bag space I finally got mine.... 27 figurines later.

Tried this with my horde character - 11 figurines and about 60 naga later I got the cat first try and with hardly any damage taken.

Also did it with my alliance character - 14 figurines and about the same amount of naga died once and got him second shot around.

Both characters were level 21 and in aspect of the monkey when trying to tame. All I have to say is that if the cat lands a crit it does do some nice damage on you but if you ice trap first and then start taming it makes a huge difference.

Good luck getting your Ghost Saber! Your gonna enjoy the extra attention you will get walking around with that unique pet =D

As of the new patch (2.2) I don't think Horde can loot the cat figurines anymore. Tried yesterday (Sept, 27, 2007) and there were no way I could click a cat figurine. The cursor simply doesnt change and I couldnt click it. I'm a level 26 Tauren hunter.

I got mine yesterday- the twenty-fifth figurine had it. With a freezing trap and Gift of the Naaru, it was pretty easy to get. Just make sure you keep all the clams that will drop from the Naga, you'll need them to feed the kitty twice since it dies and comes back unhappy again.
Always drop a freezing trap to give you time to prepare should the saber spawn.

Eagle eye is your FRIEND. There are two spots along the edge large pit o' ruins in the center- a hill on the south end and a fallen column on the north end where you can see pretty much the whole area. While standing there, use eagle eye on random spots until you see a figurine.

Tamed one of these on my 70 hunter last night. Took 7 statues. Frost trap during the tame and he never touched me. Now comes the tedious leveling. I've never tried to level a pet from this low level before, but I had thought that they would gain XP from mobs their level. Nope, seems that they only get XP from mobs MY level, so to level this little lvl 20 pet I'm having to kill lvl 63-64 mobs essentially without his help (and I'm beastmaster spec . . .). Not really that hard, but tedious, slow, and I end up having to eat a LOT of food during the process. Got him up to lvl 25 last night in about an hour. Hopefully I can get him to 60-ish soon. I think at that point he should be able to hold aggro on the lowest level mobs that still give XP, which should speed up the process a lot.

If you are a level 20 hunter trying to get this you will need help from a high level. There are many guards around them and the figurines are hard to find. I am a lvl 19 horde and spawned one on my 14th try.

After over an hour of collecting these trying to get the Ghost Saber to spawn, it never did... I'm going to try again later but it is REALLY annoying as a level 20 trying to clear all the Naga and hoping for the Ghost Saber to spawn, and it doesn't...

I have a Ghost saber named Fluffy and i would recommend any level 19-20 hunter get one to. they are located in alliance territory so its not the ideal place for a proud member of the Horde to go alone ( I am a level 21 blood elf hunter). They are a random spawn and all you have to do is open up same cat figurines. I was lucky and only hade to open up 3 before i got mine, but i know people that had to open up 30-40 before one spawned. My WoW name is Lariaenus and if any noobs (Im a proud one) want some help just tell me and i'll see what i can do.

Travelled here on my lvl 19 orc hunter, took me in excess of 1 hour to get one to spawn, (time spent because of my level killing naga, and dying myself several times) but i got one! mine did indeed die after 5 min but just ressurect and thats it :)

Tamed him several weeks ago as a 70 lvl hunter. The levelign process took me some days of grinding primals in order to level him and i was lucku i had the low levels of Dash with me since 65 lvl mobs that can give him XP tend to die before he reachs them :)

I am curently thinking about Human (the black lion) but when i tamed him today i didn't like him he got the abandon button :)

This is one of the best cats in the game and good luck to everyoen that is going to try and tame one

I just got this pet not too long ago on my second figurine!!

Stabled my current pet and got one of the crabs off the beach to help with the naga, once i saw the entering combat after i looted the figure i threw down a frost trap and abandoned really fast and started taming. He never really did much damage too me before i was finished.

Just keep running around looking for the figure, it can be in a tough spot to see sometimes.

I have this pretty little thing. More of a trophy pet than anything, but definitely worth getting it out in cities. Be prepared for a lot of "wow, where did you get that cat!?" etc.

Easy enough to tame, as long as you are level 20 +. As a level 19 you could have difficulties as some of the spawns are level 20 and thus you wouldn't be able to tame it! Can take a while to get a statue that spawns the cat so make sure you are all set when it does.

Level 25 and just got one of these (meant to get it sooner). At 25 the Nagas are more of a nusiance than a problem, though they drop lots of clam meat so you have a nice food supply for you new pet.

12th figurine spawned a lvl 19 saber and tamed it no problems at my level (no need for traps).

Fed him up good on clam meat and then after 5 minutes he did die. Quick res and 1 more feed and he was ready to start killing Nagas.

One of the coolest pets I could have hoped for. Can't wait until he can prowl :)

lowbies might have an easier time when they bring a trash pet along.

ergo: a pet you intend to throw away once you have them spawned, you can keep them unhappy, doesnt matter much, as long as it helps with the mobs, and when you get your spawn, discard it.

I got it after 16 Figurines!!! AMG! I was about to give up. The nagas aren't the annoying part it's finding the damn figurines. I kept circling the area clockwise for 1.5 hours and finally it spawned. However, I didn't even want it anymore after I compared it with my snow leopard I had since level 10.

Sometimes the ghost saber changes opacity depending on light but most of the time it just looks like a dirty snow leopard.

Edit: yes it dies after taming because it's on a summon timer so FEED IT.

BE Hunter - Started north at 18th lvl with a new trash pet (spider), main pet stabled. Skulked around the ruins for two days, killing nagas and collecting 38 pet figurines (including a one-shot that will also spawn a ghost saber to fight for a couple minutes) before finally getting the saber to spawn. Tamed on the first try, though I will admit I was a little surprised at that point and had to ditch the temp pet (now up to Best Friend and both of us lvl 19) fast.

Suggestions: Get to east side of ruins away from road and get up on hillock. Use Eagle Eye to spy around ruins until you find figurine respawn, then skirt ruins and kill nagas around the area to clear. Put your temp pet on Stay and Passive nearby. Make sure Dismiss Pet and Tame Beast are on an action bar. Switch to Aspect of the Monkey and drop a Freezing Trap, then click the figurine. You'll either get a little Cat Figurine (stacks 20 per slot), a one-use Glowing Cat Figurine combat pet token (not the Ghost Saber you are looking for), or a Ghost Saber that will attack (and stick in your freeze trap). Dismiss the temp pet, start the tame beast and even with crits and crushes, you will finish the tame before it kills you.

Feed to happy level before the spawn timer runs out and the pet auto-dies, so that when you raise pet it will only be a little unhappy. Enjoy!

I took my level 21 draenai hunter over this evening. Didn't bother with a trash pet - just soloed down a path through towards the rear of the ruins and found a single cat figurine. 1 click later, and I've got my ghost saber :)

Having not done any of the Darkshore quests, I ran down the beach to the area with the various level 19-20 murlocks and leveled him up to loyalty 3, level 21 doing the various "beached sea creature" quests. Got some compliments right away running em back through Darnassus. All in all, I'm very pleased.

They've definitely nerfed the spawn rate on this. I've tamed it several times in the past, and it's never taken me more than 4 figurines to summon it. Just about an hour ago I helped somebody get this pet for their hunter and it took us in all about 50 figurines for the summon. (And as seen above it took zrb77 20 figurines.)

Ohmigod. Everyone in my realm is getting them now. My cousin (who is level 67 right now and his is level 66) got one a long time ago and he said barely anyone had them. Now, a lot of people have them and it's really annoying. But they make great cats! I have one thats level 23 right now and I named him Bubbles ;)

It took me about 1 1/2 Hours, 18 Figures, and the cat spawnes on the 18th.

Nagas werent a problem, lvl 32 BE Hunter :p

Frost Trapped it, Tamed it, It Died :p

Level 20 NE Hunter. It took me 8 cat figurines and one spawned on the 9th one. Time it took - about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I basically ran circles around the Ruins grinding on nagas and looting cat figurines til one spawned. I used the Eagle Eye spell as often as possible. I had a "trash" pet with me.

A breakdown of how I tamed mine:

- Locate a Cat Figurine
- Clear the nagas around the area of the Cat figurine to avoid any aggro and interruptions.
- Set "trash" pet on passive and place it out of range of cat figurine
- Put Aspect of Monkey on
- Lay a Freezing Trap in front of Cat Figurine
- Loot Cat Figurine. You'll loot many figurines a bazillion times plus 1 until a ghost saber spawns.
- After ghost saber spawns and is frozen in freezing trap, abandon "trash" pet
- Tame ghost saber. Then pray to Jeebus you don't die because you have bad armor and the cat has Claw 3.
- Feed your new spooky kitty cat, feed it again. FEED YOURSELF!
- 3 minutes later spooky kitty cat kicks the bucket and dies
- Click Revive Pet to ressurect your new friend
- Voila! Congratulations on your new ghost saber

I was lucky--three Ghost Sabers spawned out of eight cat figurine loots. Maybe the increased the percentages? First spawn I wasn't prepared and had a pet I didn't want to abandon; I tamed the second spawn, and killed the third spawn. The third dropped Glowing Cat Figurine.

If you are lucky enough to spawn it be sure to tame it in 5 min(not sure about duration maybe 4 min) if you cant tame him in this time he will die naturally.

I got one of these for my 62 hunter.
A real quick spawn for me, second figurine that I opened.
I took it to felwood, and got it up to level 25, then I went into a group for lbrs and levelled it all the way up to 50.
took it to outlands, got it to 60.
Real good pet for me, but I still like my rak'shiri better ;D

Ice Trap every figurine you find. Some are well lit and seem to glow while others are as drab as the columns. Keep a sharp eye out. Happy Hunting!

Imba easy to get one. This is how i did it with 1st try with only 9 steps :

1. Get at least lvl 20.
2. Get to the Ruins of Mathystra with another higher lvl hunter so he can help you spot a cat figurine safe and fast.
3. Clear the place from all mobs around so you dont have any interrupts.
4. Place 2 freezing traps, one in front of the figurine and the second one just behind the first.
5. Summon the cat and quickly step back so that the 2 traps are between you and the figurine.
6. As soon as cat gets spawn, it gets into first trap. Start tame. When first trap breaks the cat will fall into next trap. So you can complete the tame of the cat without even touching you.
7. As soon as you tame the cat feed it till it's happy.
8. After some minutes cat will die. It's ok dont worry, its because it despawns.
9. Revive it and feed it again till its happy again. Gz you have an imba looking cat :-D

Okay, this is important.

I read many forums to ensure I wasn't doing something wrong. I farmed this for 3 hours today. Was I moving away too fast from the figurines? Is my Ice Trap bugging out the supposed-to-be-summoned mob?

The answer is: no. I just got really unlucky. It took me a grand total of 43 figurines before I got my Ghost Saber summoned. That's about 3 hours of grinding at 4 minutes per figurine.

Anyway, so those of you getting disheartened, keep it up. It's bound to happen sometime.

The pet is totally worth it btw.

Got this on my orc hunter at level 21. It spawned on the 6th figurine, and then died a few minutes later after hearthing. All I did was run around the ruins until I could see one, that way I didn't have to kill as much. You don't need any help, but make sure you have an expendable pet with you.

Took my lvl 42 BE hunter here for this pet. Took me 23 cat idols but I finally got the sucker. Well worth the hour or so it took to get him to spawn, will be keeping him to lvl 70 most likely.

This pet would ROCK in the BGs! He's already transparent; stack this with the transparent effect from Prowl, and most people probably won't see him even if he's standing right next to them!
They'll hear the Stealth sound effect, but what will they see when they look for the Rogue or Cat Form Druid? NOTHING!

I have looked around for about 15 minutes now, and I've not found any of these "Cat Figurines" or this "Ghost Saber" itself. I'm guessing this may be patched or something now? Twilight Runner is pretty cool, but I'd rather settle with the best I can get now.

I'm wondering if they increased the spawn chance of the Ghost Saber. On my first run, it came out of the second figurine I opened, but I was still lvl 19 so unable to tame it. On my second run, it spawned out of the first figurine. This was on The Sha'tar realm. Anyone else having this experience?

i Tame this cat on my Tauren hunter... u can use to frezz it 2 the groud for 10sec when its frozen u shud tart taming it. it relly hard 2 get befor u need 2 opet a lot of cat figures i think i opned more than 10 :)

I've been doing a little thinking lately, and I have grave news for all of you Hunters out there: If you want to tame a Ghost Saber, do it FAST.

Blizzard made it so that the Grimtotem Spirit Wolf is now untameable (Because it was "Too Undead" for the Hunter class); if they follow the same "logic", it's only a matter of time before they decide to make this baby untameable too.

But, hopefully, they will take the Diseased Black Bear and Plagued Swine off the list of tameable creatures first; these things are practically the ONLY "Beast" mobs that look Undead and are still tameable (ironic, don't you think?).

I nearly got myself killed because i was so surprised. I am now the proud owner of this pet, and his name is Ace. (since i got him on the first try)

Okay so I've gone through a complete level farming this (level 21 to 22) I have 39 figurines and I'm getting a little frustrated already lol. BUT I'm going to follow the advise found here and I won't give up!!!

Well speak of the devil. I post on here then in my frustrated sadness of not having found one I go back to my game. Two figurines later *poof* He shows up. Tamed him, fed him, let him die, revived him then named him Nimitz ^-^.

Things I learned from this experiance.
1) A developing deep seeded hatred for the Naga
2) How long it takes to blow through 1500 arrows
3) Ghost Sabers turn heads in Cities.

I got mine at lvl 19 in about 30 minutes and Im lvl 70 now and my pet friend is not far behind.

Sure I've tried TONS of other pets.. Owls, Scorpids, Raptors, Boars, you name it... always like going back to this little guy though for his look AND functionality. With Prowl, he's almost complete invisible and really the only things you need with him as a BM spec is Claw and Dash. Bite is a waste of TP, load up on resistances if you like to PVP and have at it. This little guy does have a slight advantage over other cats due to the transparency... I've second guessed myself a half dozen times thinking my pet wasn't out when in fact it was right next to me (damn snow in AV) :)

I tamed it at the lvl22, killed 3 nagas, icetrapped him & tame him on the first figurine opening, i guess i was really lucky on that one.

The pet didn't die or anything.

OK i was looking at the Cat Shadowclaw who looks similar to his except HE is purple and loses his Transparenty when tamed But still has a unique color but to the point i tried to get this pet when lvl 18 (a freind Misimformed me) Got 2 cat figurines then just gave up because on the way i kinda died 34 times so then nineteen i got 4 more figurines lvl 20 i was on the Zoram strand because there are some good NPCs for XP and i had alomost given up but i decicded to make the short trip so i went up there i got there first one a Ghost Saber spawned but i was also getting attacked by somethig else so i died but when i resurected the Saber was still there so i completely regenerated my health then tried again i got halfway tamed then laid a frezing trap that didnt work so i had to take 2 seconds of Arggro from him before i had enogh mana to try again but i did and suprisingly got him the seccond i died

Just got my first ghost saber last night... took 21 figurines and about 3 hours but I tamed first try without a frost trap. A hunter at level 29 with some pvp twinking can handle the naga in the area without any trouble, just dont get caught afk when a naga respawns. I killed at least 90 naga and went through about 150 arrows... watch out for a small crevice near the bottom of the north west ruins.. if you jump off the rocks on the east end of it you can get stuck in a hole and have to hearth out and run back to the ruins >.>
Yes, my poor cat died after 10 minutes when I first tamed it, but I knew this was coming so I revived it and didn't name it till after the glitch happened (not naming it was strictly out of superstition)
This cat levels quickly if you kill green mobs (green to you)... mine went up 4 levels and 3 loyalty levels in about an hour and a half of grinding and was killing raptors two levels above it! I love my barley there cat!

Tamed my ghost saber at level 21. Being a blood elf i went out of my way for it, but once i finally had one I was quite happy. Unfortunatelly I ended up teaching it a skill I didn't want it to know (Bite) and had to go all the way back up to the ruins.

One thing that should be noted about them if it already hasn't, when your pet is slowed by frost bolt, poisoned, or is affected by Bestial Wrath, it'll be a see through version of itself but Blue/Green/Red. Pretty cool sight to see.

After 17 times looting the Cat Figurines, i finally encountered the Ghost Saber. I tamed a crab like everyone was saying. The Ghost Saber was easy to tame at level 20. It only took around 1 hour to find. :)

I got one.
But in two tries.... one try is my mistake. I do Dismiss pet, but that is not possible, because i get warning too many pets. Also another fault i put pet too near me, for dismiss command. That is after 9 figurines.
Then i try again, after 18e figurine it showed again. But i put this time the pet far as possible but still in view. Then i can start with frost trap.
When the saber showed up finally, i abandoned pet first (with warning) and start with tame. I can see the claw effect on me. But i am l23, thus i have not big problem.

After success, pet comes to my side, so i feed him immediately. After ~5 min the pet suddenly die. I revive him without problem. Feed continue to make him happy.
Start with fighting mobs to gain points. It levels fast up to l22.

The semi transparant look is nice, and claw effect is good.

As a multiboxer, I decided to suck it up and get 5 ghost sabers for my 5 hunters (level 30) once I had the new low-level mount to help me zip around.

These are my findings:
Ghost Saber #1: 1st try, died within 5 minutes and went from "happy" status to "neutral", level 20
Ghost Saber #2: 35th try, did not die, level 20
Ghost Saber #3: 1st try, died within 5 minutes and went from "happy" status to "unhappy", level 19
Ghost Saber #4: 4th try, did not die, level 19
Ghost Saber #5: 2nd try, died within 5 minutes and went from "happy" status to "unhappy", level 20

Time spent: 4 hours

Interesting facts:
- After 4 hours of "grinding" level 20 mobs, Ghost Saber #1 is still loyalty level 1 (Rebellious). Loyalty is a myserious thing -- apparently they don't gain any unless you are fighting mobs that give XP.
- Ghost Saber #1 ate 11 Wild Hog Shanks in order to stay "happy" status.
- I went through 8992 razor arrows across 5 hunters clearing "trash" around the spawn points.
- I stabled my old pets and tamed an on-site single level 19 plainstrider to tank the trash around the spawns before I tamed my first ghost saber.
- 5 hunters can clear the area faster than the ghost saber items will spawn.

Was it worth it? Would I do it again?
Absolutely. You simply cannot get transparent kitties anywhere else. However, if I'd do it again I'd make sure I could still get XP from the mobs in the area, since 4 hours of farming gray mobs isn't exactly efficient. This is a good quest to pair up with the Mathystra Relics quest (which, sadly, I had already completed some time earlier).

i got the little sucker on the 3rd statue ^_^ it was 57.3 and 20.4 cords and i tried hearthing back to org atfer i got it but it still died so that theory is disproved ..... im a lvl 23 troll hunter so it was pretty easy cept for the mana i had to wait until my mana regenerated because i used it all killing the nagas around it super fast other than that it looks great

Wanted one of these ever since I had seen one when I was originally leveling a druid on the Mug thol realm. Took a 70 hunter with me. He cleared the nagas out little by little while I ran behind and searched every single statue I found. Because I did this at lvl 20 we had to run through maps and maps to get there. I think the running itself took over an hour easily... I spawned one on my 38th statue after 3 hours total. Spawned at (60.8, 15.2) As a level 20. Note: These statues seem to spawn in IDENTICAL places every time. But alternate between three locations for each statue. Took several rotations to figure out the pattern. My belf hunter now has a Ghost Saber and is 1 of 3 I've seen on the entire server... and the only one I've seen at such a low level. :P Great pet to have. Good Luck!

Went out as a lvl 19 and he spawned a 20 so I killed him then leveled while I was there and got to 20. He spawned again, mr friend tried to trap him but then we ended up having to kill him again. Third time was the charm this time when he spawned I tamed him and my friend healed me. Then we Hearthed back to Horde land.

To find one, go to Auberdine in Darkshore, and take the road North.
If you're Horde, your nearest FP will be in Ashenvale. Just hope your legs wont give in after the long walk

Once you see nagas, you're in the right place (Ruins).

Now, you're trying to look for Cat Figurines. They are very small cat statues on the ground. It's rather hard to see them sometimes. Be sure to look around every wall and pillar.

USE THE DWARF RACIAL ABILITY FIND TREASURE! IT WILL SHOW THE CAT FIGURINES ON YOUR MINIMAP!
(of course, if you're not a dwarf, you can still do this)
Even if you're not a dwarf, bringing a dwarf friend to help you track down these things can save a huge amount of time.

There is a very small chance of these cats spawning. They are lv. 19/20.
If you're not taming this pet, then just kill it and hope for the Glowing Cat Figurine to drop(which will summon the saber to fight for you for a certain time).
If you manage to have lv. 20 at this time and the skill freezing trap, then I believe everyone else explained it quite well. Just keep your "trash" pet on passive, and if it spawns ice trap, and abandon pet. Then you may tame it.
If you're not you can still do this(I was lv 19 and met a lv., 20 ghost saber, so I had to kill it).

After about 3 minutes your pet will die without warning.
No you didn't lose if forever, just revive pet, and it'll come back(remember to feed it still).
It won't do it again after that.

It is possible to capture this pet without killing a single mob, I just got this for the first time on my level 19 twink hunter (take into consideration this was done with 1500 hp unbuffed and 30% dodge ) and since experience was a big concern here's the method that I used:

tame one of the level 18-19 cats that spawn just north of the naga's

use eagle eye to scout out the area for the cat figurines

once you find one, send your pet in to agro the mobs around it, run up, loot the icon (does not work like chests, you can loot these while in combat)

if the cat does not spawn, simply run away until your pet auto despawns, and re-summon the pet, if the cat does spawn, simply put a dot on it and run away so it follows you until your pet auto despawns, recall your temporary pet, abandon it, tame your new pet

took roughly 45 minutes of "farming" the idols to get a level 19 cat to spawn (had one level 20 cat spawn that i just ran from)

I just got this awesome cat. As a level 20 Horde toon I had some higher levels in my guild summon me to where the figurines are and it spawned on the first one. Sad to say one of the guys i was with killed it. Opened about six more and tamed her without any traps. I recommend taking a few people for the trash mobs.

I got my first spawn on my 4th figurine i found. I've got about 10 of the cats come out and 3/4 of them are lv 19 so any future 19 twink Hunters that want the cat have a pretty good chance of getting it on around for 4th to 8th find.

I actually tried doing this with a close friend and a ghost saber appeared on the first time. it was lvl 19 like me and i was trying to tame it and my friend(lvl 70) tries to slow it down and kills it. so then we go for a nother hour and nothing appear besides a bunch of 20s. my advise... get lvl 20 then do it. most people also ask how you summon them and this is how.
1) you will see little tiger figures laying around in the area.
2) you just click on it and grab the loot and sometimes a ghost saber will attack you and just tame it.
* remember you should have a high lvl go with you to help clear out the area!

The dwarf ability "Find Treasure" is a lifesaver for finding the statues.
I tried at level 19 with a 70 mage. And got it on my 5th, 13th and 20th try.
But they were all level 20, You really want to be level 20 before you try.
Its a pain finding the statues, unless you are dwarf, and once you find one and realize you're to low of a level... You see where im going with this.

When you find the statues remember where they are.
Then its just a matter of killing the Nagas, and Spawning the Ghost Saber.

Now Level 24, I got it with no help.
Never met another hunter with same pet.

yup, he indeed looks cool...but being a horde, not many people seem to really appreciate the semi-transparent skin of this beast (no other snow leopards around to compare it to, you know)

and although i like him very much, he doesn't seem to be the best choice for both pvp and pve

after patch after patch, cat family has lots its merit...
no more glory of the fast attack speed,
no more bite, growl combo for best pve gridning, questing (focus dump skill is indeed focus dumpage...not enough focus point for consecutive figths)
although there being 2 family spells, prowl and rake, other pet's family spells are way better in both pvp and pve.

I also just tamed this cat & it took me about 18 figurines & all were just that, figurines. :) Oh well. By the way I am a 27th lvl htr & had no problems taming him....once I found him :) AND he leveled up to 23 immediately. Once I tamed him I forgot the threads about beating the die off & panicked at first. :} All's well now but he is in perminent stealth/prowl mode & I can’t turn it off & thus his speed is reduced to 50%. The icons for activating / deactivating those actions are not displayed. A couple of days ago I had tamed a Matriarch and those icons were displayed thus I was able to deactivate those abilities, but not with this cat. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I even restarted WoW and they still never appeared. I stabled him then reloaded another pet (ravager) and all his icons are present.
Anyone have any ideas?

I saw this cat in the SW auction house some time ago and knew I absolutely had to have it. I don't remember how I happened to find out where to get it (I probably asked the guy), but I know reading through the comments here gave me an idea of what strategy to use to capture it. The freezing trap strat that CBPBH posted was such an excellent idea that I've used it on both my hunters! (It's on the first page, 3/4 of the page down).

Took me 14 tries to get one the first time (lvl 22 NE) and I lucked out on the second time...only took me three times (lvl 19 Draenei). Yay! I got lots of the worthless cat figurines, have yet to see a Glowing Cat Figurine. A trash pet definitely helps clearing out nagas, and if you come up to the ruins via the beach, the naga are spread out more and easier to keep from aggroing each other, even when they flee. It's not especially difficult to pick them off in that NE area--you have to be careful further south, where the road goes into the ruins; they're packed in a little tighter there. Eagle Eye is your best friend while hunting for the figurines, so long as you sit on a low hill in the NE corner of the ruins...fewer trees and obstacles to peer around and there happen to be at least three figurines that spawn in that general area that I've seen. Little harder to do in the southern part of the ruins because you don't have as many hills, empty space, and mountains at your back and have to pay attention for roaming animals. The Eagle Eye spell saves on running around to check behind the rubble, which I hate doing.

If you come up from the beach and circle around the ruins, keeping close to the hills/mountains, and work your way south and then west down to the entrance with the road, you can pick up at least four figurines, if not five. Depends on whether someone else was there before you or not. Both times I had the place to myself. This is also a good time to do Mathystra Relics. Lady Vespira seems to like hanging out by the hills, so it's extra loot for you if no one else has killed her! (If you can manage, that is) After that, you just have to look around to find the other figurines...a bit of a drag, especially if you haven't gotten it within 10 figurines, but keep at it...you'll find it. ^_^ Use Eagle Eye!

Got tired of him got another ghost saber named him "Hordehunter"

Hit 32ish went to stv and got a gorilla

Stabled him and got another Ghost Saber on the first figurine named this one "Ibitehard"

I was using my relatively new BE hunter lvl 21. Put my main pet in stable and went to look for cat figs without a pet. Cleared the area around the first cat fig I found. Opened the fig and got a lvl 20 ghost saber, tamed it without using frost trap and had about 1/4 health left.

n.b. It didn't die even after about 30mins without hearthing or using bat master.

I got this yesterday! :D I'm lvl 23. It took me 8 attempts at summoning one from the cat statues. I had a lvl 80 hunter with me and his freezing trap froze the Ghost Saber long enough for me to tame him. Which was a great help, he also ran round killing all the nagas.
Just after i left the ruins the Ghost Saber did die. He is a cool pet up close, but from a distance he does look similar to a snow leopard...

Since the spirit beast is too hard to get in SB I decided to get this cat. I leveled with a gorilla so I when I hit 80 I figured it was time to get a dps pet. Took me 21 tries. Below are the cords I found the figurines at. Probably not very helpful since there is a map above and they are scattered everywhere. I had to open 21 of these so I'd say I saw them all unless there were a few with really long respawn rates or just plain well hidden.

Too have this cat means your prob the only one on the realm. Most don't get this cat and keep it because there's nothing really special other then the ghost form I've only seen one other person with this cat. Personally this cat was a great tank and heavy dpser but that was many patches ago. Still it's fun when questing with groups and he goes into prowl. Most think I've dismissed him and ask me to bring him up and i just LOL

I just tamed this cat at lvl 80. Went right to 75. I read that people had him disapear after taming due to despawn time, I didn't have that problem. I have a horde hunter and it took me a minute to get there....note: don't fall down the falls from felwood, you'll die and not get your body back, gotta rez at the healer.
But I tamed her and fed her right away and she stayed, one of the best looking cats I have ever had. Note: it has the ablity to prowl and always looks like it is in prowl but when you put it in to prowl you can hardly see it.

I was running with my Ghost Saber in Stormwind City.

I'm a level 30 Draenei Hunter, and I crossed paths with a level 60 Night Elf Hunter, also with a Ghost Saber.

I noticed the difference in the scales of the pets.

My Ghost Saber was 3/4 the size of his Ghost Saber.

How come?
- Cause he was a Night Elf and I'm a Draenei?
- Cause he was level 60 and I'm 30?
- Cause there are more then 1 kind of Ghost Sabers? (Size I mean).
- ...
(I was not under the effect of a spell, neither was my/his pet. Wasn't standing on a hill or some terrain-related stuff. Wasn't drunk... There is a scale difference).

There is no page for pets in general, so I posted it here, since I noticed it with Ghost Sabers.

Was bored out of my mind so I ran my level 19 (a couple of bubbles way from 20) hunter from XR to the ruins (the run absolutely blows -- 13-15 min. at least). Anyway, I used eagle eye (as recommended by a few posters) to find a statue. I used a trash kitty I picked up on the way to clear the Naga around it but still wasn't 20. Fortunately, I managed to spawn a 19 ghost saber on the very first attempt (which seems kinda odd considering most posts I've read are taking numerous attempts to even get a GS). I didn't trap him or anything and with AotM on, he might have taken off 15-20% of my life at best by the end of the tame.

He "died" about 5 min. after tame (I stayed in the area on the eastern mountains before I hearthed just in case, ha -- won't make that run again). A simple rez and feeding and he's good as new...logged in before restart/patch and he's still there.

The worst part about this cat was simply the run to get there. Obviously, I seemed to have been very fortunate with getting a 19 GS on the first statue when I hadn't dinged 20 yet. Overall, it's a pretty cool looking pet and was worth the run. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a higher level tag along just in case...but the highest mobs I saw were lower 20's in Ashen. and were almost all entirely avoided. I did this early morning server time and never saw a single Alliance player while doing it (Maelstrom - RPPVP). Just have a trash pet along for the ride just in case.

If nothing else, this kitty will serve as a "fairly" unique pet while at least leveling in the Barrens (ha). Beyond that, however, it seems like most hunters are catching up on the unique skinned pets. Regardless, it's still a cool looking kitty. Thanks for all the previous comments on taming by the way.

The most messages I read above seemed to have some troubles finding and taming the issued cat. But I can say I had it easy; first try and success. I knew about this cat because my other nonhunter alts had taken the Cat Figurine and got almost killed.

I just went with my lvl 19 night elf hunter to the eastern side of the ruins (where it had spawned many times before) and took the figurine. Few moments after the Ghost Saber (lvl 19, luckily) appeared, and I tamed him peacefully (no need for potions either). I panicked a bit when the cat died but then tried to revive the pet - and there he was again! I gave him a name Smokey. :)

A good strategy above...I relied on Eagle Eye while on a small hill (I always use it for scouting outside). Saved me from running willy nilly all over, aggroing everything in sight and dying horribly.

I dumped my pet in the stable and grabbed a disposable cat or bear near the ruins before I started hunting...I suggest coming up through the ruins from the beach. The run is easier, since the crabs leave you alone, and once you head into the ruins, the naga are spread out and easy to pick off one by one. Follow the mountains south, and you'll pick up at least four or five statues right there. By the time you get through one full circuit around the ruins, the statues will have started to respawn (if you're about the same level as the naga). Takes some time and patience, but well worth the effort. I still have this cat at lvl 62 and I plan on keeping it forever because it's nearly invisible once prowling. That it's see-through makes it useful while in an instance with a group because it doesn't visually block things (much) and cats have a low profile anyway. If I were to replace it, it'd be with one of the spirit beasts, Loque'nahak or Gondria (the as-of-yet only available on the PTR new spirit beast).

EDIT: Gondria found here. Also, I still have this cat at ~~lvl 73~~ lvl 80 and I still love it. Seeing it next to an actual Spirit Beast makes me wonder if it was the critter that led to the SBs (though it could have just as easily been The Plains Vision that did that). They should have given the saber a special ability, like a faster moving prowl.

EDIT: Nope, went with Gondria after all because she looks more like the ghost saber. Still have the ghost saber though, and she's almost lvl 80! Nostalgia trips are always fun. ^_^ Still wish they'd given the saber a special ability though. Also, I'm not the only one running around on Gilneas with one...I've seen quite a few in Wintergrasp and running around in cities (they're also high levels), and I always /cheer because it's nice to know the cat hasn't been forgotten.

its also funny when arrogant people say "your lying man, its totally prowling" even when it would get a prowl buff if it was.
note: i have had one of these since lv24 and i can safely say that they DO become nearly invisible when you stealth them. unfortunitly this has no effect in pve whatsoever, but it may slightly help when someone is watching for a stealthed person. ghost sabers are easy to miss in pvp

Got a ghost saber as a 54 hunter. 2nd figurine (for which I was glad - hard a hard time finding them!)

It didn't aggro me when it spawned, just sat there looking transparent, giving me time to abandon my temp pet, drop a trap, and start taming.

After the tame, it immediately leveled to 49, so bring your-level appropriate food.

I fed it up to happy, hearthed, then it died after I got to my destination, so hearthing does not protect from the despawn death.

Revived, fed again, and we're good.

I got this as a pet on my Night Elf Hunter, and i got it on my first statue... the statue was right off the road about 1 step, and was right next to a fallen totem pole thing. Very cool pet to have! It looks a little like a prowling cat, but a little more visible.

5 figurines seem to spawn at a time as far as I can see.

I found and looted 5, found no more and waited for respawn, found and looted 5 again, waited for respawn, and got it on my 13th, so just to verify I went around and had a look and saw only 2 remaining figurines. Maybe coincidence, or maybe it is the spawn rate; batches of 5 (unless you missed any in which case that one will remain where it is).

I never counted the respawn time but it was fast, felt like 2 minutes, absolutely not above 5.

If you look at everyone's reports, we all found the Ghost Saber in about 8-15 figurines, so you won't be here long, 30 minutes max (low levels that have to fight mobs will of course take much longer).

JUST DID THIS ON JULY 10th 2009, patch 3.1.3
All you gotta do is go to the top of darkshore.
Find the ruins, there will be a bunch of naga around.
Look around the ruins for little cat figures on the ground that you can click.
There is a low chance that when you click it a Ghost Saber is immediately spawned, then you just tame it.
Most of the time you will loot a "cat figurine" which does nothing, so get rid of it.
Keep trying until you click one and it spawns a cat for your taming pleasure.
Then show it off :P

After reading the comments on Wowhead, I made plans to make the ghost saber one of my first pets on my new dwarf hunter. After barely making level 19, off I went to the Ruins... Turned on "Find Treasure" (the dwarf racial ability) which showed all the cat figurines on the mini map. A cat spawned quickly but it was a level 20 so it couldn't be tamed by my little level 19. Eventually, after 4 more cat spawns (all level 20), I gave up until I reached level 20. Went back the moment I reached 20 and was successful catching a level 19 (go figure). For both myself and my friend, our cats DID DIE at the 10 minute mark. No worries, just revive pet and continue on your way... (though it did make for a funny situation as my friend didn't know to expect it).

I have two level 80's in Uldy gear. At this point in the game when I make a new toon, I want it to have the best start and best everything. When I decided to make a hunter as my "gathering" toon. He has all the BOA gear it can use, etc. This also means I want it to have all the "best" pets. I go after the Ghost Saber first. I am at level 21 so with the gear I have and the extra level this guy should be no problem to tame. I had a "throw away" cat from Azuremyst, I go in clear the Naga... took me a couple minutes to find a figurine.
You would think I had been playing for 5 hours instead of 5 years... I trap the Saber and *Dismiss* (not Abandon) my Saber... 24 figurines and only 12 arrows left later, I get the Ghost Saber. LOL
Moral of the story...
IF you have a "throw away" pet... Abandon not Dismiss.
Great pet to have though, well worth the time.

Got mine on the 2nd try. After you click to pick up whatever is in the statue you get the loot and a Ghost Saber pops right next to it. Tame it right away and you got it. I fed mine and got it to happy asap. Hearthed and still have it.

Something about hunter's pets that may not be apparent is how autocast works...

In the pet tool bar you have 4 slots for your pet attacks... any ability that has 4 yellow triangles in the corners of the icon can be set to auto autocast. (I.E. Pet will automatically cast these when attacking. Not sure about what order they cast in. If you have multiple abilities selected, it proabably picks the 1st on the list and then the 2nd... as long as the ability is not on cooldown, and there is enough focus to cast it.)
How do I know which abilities are on Autocast?... There will be four little yellow lights pulsating clockwise around the Icon.
How do I toggle the Autocast on and off?... Right Click the Icon to make the lights disappear. This will turn autocast off. To toggle autocast on again simply right click the icon and the pulsating lights will reappear, indicating that autocast for that ability is now on again.

Hopefully this clears up the confusion or "bug" of cats autocasting (or randomly casting) prowl... The default for a newly tamed cat is to have the prowl autocast enabled.

There may still be bugs related to the prowl ability however make sure that you are using the autocast function properly.

I am a Troll Hunter who went all the way to the top of Darkshore to get this pet, but I was lucky enough that he spawned on my first kill! I'm lvl46 though, so taming him was a breeze. Even greater when he jumped to lvl41! Instantly my new favorite pet. Totally worth it for Horde.

I did this about 5 days ago. It took 34 figurines before the ghost-cat spawned; about 2 hours. Having a dwarf along to use 'find treasure' was very helpful, but using the coordinates given above by 'castorjay' would also do the trick. I was level 44 and sure enough, the pet came in for me at 39 and is leveling quickly. Had to buy a new mount to match my pet. ;)

I took a chance and did this at 19. It took 2 figurines, and the pet spawned. Abandoned existing pet, then tamed the new one. He did die after about 5 minutes, but I revived him, and all is well :)

I looted 234 figurines total. Not in one sitting though. I was level 28 so I didn't have trouble staying alive. I did not lay down a freezing trap, but that will prevent you from getting lots of scratches. I still have her currently at level 40, she'll be replaced by a Frostsaber Pride Watcher, but for now she's unique and not many Hordies on my server know where she's from.

Took a bit to get my Ghost kitty. Looted a total of 23 figurines with him popping up on the 23rd. Love how he looks. I think for looks it was definitely worth the time. I have a lot of people asking me where I tamed him at. All of the above info was great and very helpful. Thanks for the tips on using the freezing trap when looting :)

I got my Ghost Saber, Sandburg, about 3 months ago after several long, painful hours in which I accidentally killed one after 30 mins of trying and then spent another punishing 1 1/2 hour of beating myself up for it as I searched for another. Perhaps the pain and suffering makes me treasure him more than my other pets, though!

I do wonder whether the ruins will remain when Cataclysm hits ... Then this pet might become even more rare and special!

Took me the better part of two hours (I didn't think of the trash pet idea and my survival skills as a level 20 survival hunter are approximately zero) but was definitely worth it.

I had to use 21 statues to spawn one, so don't give up if you want this kitty.

Now to spend another 2 hours thinking of a suitably awesome name for him!

I just got this on my level 20 troll hunter, spawned on my 20th figurine, tamed with no problems. As horde, it's quite along run to Darkshore, I would recommend queuing for BFD, and then dying, spirit rezzing, and leaving group. Will save you 10-20 minutes.

Dont worry about instantly killing the beast when it spawns - this was a major concern for me as I am level 80. It stands there and you can select it and start taming.

Note there are three other types of non selectable figurines - a chalice, a statue of a night elf and a sphere. These are distractions and don't appear to denote spawn points of the cat figurines

Got my third today - but the other 2 were with 70 & 80 hunters.

23 Twink. So things like riding & freeze trap made a huge difference. BUT I did find figurines in the shallow and the deep depressions. So not really on the outside only - but maybe people don't look as hard in the center.

Not much clearing. I just stood & waited to see if I pulled, before right-clicking on the figurine. I had my cursor on my trash pet's icon & the moment the saber appeared, right clicked ( while the trash pet pulled it), and abandoned. Laid a freeze trap & samed - freeze trap did run out early. But no biggie.

I've seen Uvuros run straight through my freeze trap like it's not even there - big as a bus, this was pretty simple.

Oh - 11th figurine this time. Last one was the first :)

i tamed this one and i fell in love, its ghostly figure is so cool, it looks like a regular white spotted cat but its transparent and when it goes into prowl, its almost completely invisible, i've found myself searching frantically for my cat quite often. I've leveled with this cat since level 19 and my hunter is level 67 now and i still love it.

Tamed this one with my level 21 BE Hunter today. Took me three figurines, so I can't complain.

A few things I noticed:

- The figurines seem to spawn more frequently at the outer perimeter of the ruins. I scouted the central part too, but save for a battered chest, I found nothing of note.
- Speaking of battered chests, there seem to be quite a few of them out there in the ruins. I counted no less than three of them. They're not heavily guarded, so if you're interested in a few extra goodies...
- While in the area, you might want to keep an eye out for Lady Vespira, a level 22 rare spawn. She looks like a Sorceres, but has a purple tail and uses different abilities. Nothing to be afraid of though. She has a relatively high chance of dropping a Spikelash Dagger and she, like the figurines, spawns somewhere in the outer ring of the ruins.

Getting there is not that hard, by the way, when you're playing as Horde. I started at Zoram'gar Outpost and just ran to the ruins with my mount. A bit boring, but the main road in Darkshore is perfectly free of enemies, save for one Night Elf NPC along the road near some ruins in southern Darkshore. And, of course, try not to doze off. It's easy to walk straight in to Auberdine and in the hands of at least two sentinels when you're not paying attention. You'll probably not want that.

I got the cat on my second figurine loot. A while back I looted like 10 with no luck so I backed out a good way to do this is use your Eagle vision instead of just going in guns blazing. If your a dwarf then your track treasure also works well when finding these. At level 22 I didn't seem to have a problem in killing the Naga without a pet but it might be in your best interest to use a pet a guide to do that is to pick up a pet from the forest (There are level 18 mobs when you come in from Ashenvale) put down a Freezeing trap when you are going to click the figurine and when you do if the tiger spawns drop the pet you have and start taming. One of the coolest pets you can get IMO not at just for a level 20 hunter but a cool pet over all.

Another really cool feature is that it seems this cat doesn't need to be fed. :D

I was lucky I got the pet on my 3rd statue, 10-15 mins in. I just put down my frozen trap, then proceeded to click on the figurine. I then dismissed my trash pet. It came out as a lv. 19. Mine did die after only a couple of moments, but I revived it and it went to being a normal pet. Thanks for all the tips!

I was just running around doing the quest to pick up the relics in this area on my hunter (level 20) and saw one of the kitty statues and, of course, was curious so I clicked it. Out popped this ghost saber. I figured it must be rare, so I quickly abandoned my pet, popped on aspect of the viper (as I was pretty much out of mana and it wouldn't let me tame), layed down a trap, used a health pot, and finally tamed him before he died (he was at about 23%) Whew! I'm glad I got him!

Clicked on about 5 more kitty statues after that and another one never spawned. Guess I was lucky :)

I decided to swing by Darkshore earlier today to pick one of these guys up.. I suspect they might be done away with in Cataclysm and it'd be pretty sweet to be one of the lucky ones who kept theirs, since I missed out on the spirit wolf we all regret not taming. I only had to click three cat figurines.. lucky! :)

So anyways, as you can see, the cat is see-through. It's very noticable in all lighting and gets lots of double-takes. I named mine 'Aeterna', which is latin for 'eternal'. I thought it was strangely fitting for a ghost, especially if these are retired in Cata.

Everyone wants the Ghost Saber, right? I wanted one for my druid, but being... er... Druidic, I couldn't tame it. I decided to find it and kill it for the Glowing Cat Figurine.
Mistake!
Took me ages to find it (Two Ghost Saber spawns) and on top of that, I summoned it and it was just a pain. It kept attacking everything I ran past (Freakin' Nagas o.e). On top of that, it was only level 20, hardly helpful for me in Northrend :P
But just to add insult to injury, when the timer ran out, I went into my bags to resummon it (Because it was so darn cute!) but woe and behold, it wasn't there.
I spent ages finding a "One-Use" item. Fun, eh? <.<''

So here's the moral to this. Don't try to loot the Figurine >.<'' It'll only bite you back after hours of searchin'.

Can anyone in the Cataclysm beta confirm if these are still available? Darkshore is a heavily changed zone in the expansion, and I have seen videos of the area where the statuettes are, and I didn't spot any, and the area is changed considerably... I will be updating with confirmation if I can.

Spend a couple of hours farming the statues on my lvl 22 hunter, long enough for her to be 23 now. 17 statues later, I'm the proud owner of the pet. It might take ages, but the gaurdians still spawn as of 4.0.1 :)

I noticed that if you spawn one and don't kill it or tame it, when it resets back to its position it will go into stealth and just stand there. It dies in 5 minutes.

This creature is still obtainable as a hunter pet. Though the shattering did massively change this zone, I just went to Darkshore and looted about 11 cat figurines around Ruins of Mathystra and had the ghost saber spawn on the 11th or 12 figurine I looted. It still dies after five minutes or so and can be resurrected after which it function as a normal hunter pet.

Feel kinda stupid, tried for 3 hours to get the pet, switched off to another char to do dailies. During that time I met a DWARF hunter, after convincing him to run all the way to Darkshore to help me get it, he walks over to one, let's me open it, BAM! One of my friends has a worgen hunter and, after 61 cat figurines in her bag, decided that the ghost saber either didn't exist anymore, or you couldn't get it to spawn after a certain level.

I'm happy to say this is not the case. While I was leveling my herbing on my 81 goblin hunter today, I decided on a whim to see if I could snag this cat since I was in the area anyway. 18 cat figurines later, and he spawned for me. I think they must have just lowered the likelihood of him appearing.

Took my Lv20 horde hunter here on 3Jan2011. Cat appeared after only opening 3 statues and was easily tamed. Didnt die for me (yet).

The cat prowls at all times except in combat. There is no button on the pet bar to turn off prowl, not sure why or if this option will appear at higher levels

CATACLYSM ALLIANCE UPDATE: There are a couple of spawn points where the Cat Figurine appears inside the Alliance friendly camp (approx 58.9, 19.5) on the West end of this area. I finally got Ghost Saber to spawn for me and it occurred inside this camp. Well.. as I tamed and Ghost Saber hit me, the "friendly" NPC's did the most unfriendly thing they could do. They attacked Ghost Saber and broke my tame in the process. I quickly began to tame again, and again tame broke off. Needless to say I stood there helpless while they killed my pet to be. I only wished I could have murdered those friendlies, because I was up to 20+ junk cat figurines in my bags. I finally bagged another Ghost Saber on my 31st try and on the East side of the area. I suggest you pray that the cat figurines you find in this "friendly" camp, don't spawn Ghost Saber. It'll just piss you off.

I had forgotten about this 'pet', since I left off playing a hunter for a while. I took my lvl 21 Worgen Hunter back to the area yesterday and found the figurine in the camp. Yeah, not a smart place to try that. The ghost spawned and as reported, it was slaughtered. Going deeper into the area, I found another figurine that spawned the ghost as well. Got her that time. I don't think I've ever spawned the ghost twice in a row like that before. Lucky or whatever, I've got her now. :) Thanks for all the tips on her.

tamed it 7pm central time..popped on the first one i picked up. i dunno if there is less of the cats statues overall to pick up. took me longer after cata just find one then before cata, but before cata it took me about 20 or so for it to spawn and it only took one for him to spawn. I found the statue next to a troll that was mining and i am horde if it makes a differance

@Ironbuket - Right-clicking the prowl icon turns it on/off permantly, after u´ve done this u can still left-click to make it prowl manualy...if it didnt work for u it might have been a bug, but as every other pet with this ability he isent set to permenant prowl and you are able to do this at every lvl.

I tamed a lion in barrens that came with prowl and made the mistake of turning that off. The ability was gone from the pet bar the next time I logged in and I could no longer make him prowl. This pet doesnt even have the ability on the toolbar in the first place so not willing to risk right-clicking it off of him and loosing it forever :)

Here is a macro that anyone with TomTom can use to assist getting the Ghost Saber exotic pet. The macro is broken up into chunks (each chunk will require a separate macro be made), and each macro requires the player to be IN DARKSHORE for the macro to work. The macro has 15 locations (non exhaustive) for the Cat Figurine object and will help the player find them since the figurines are difficult to see as they do not stand our in any way from the terrain. I recommend searching by ground to find these figurines as it will be much more difficult to spot the figurines from the air. Good luck!

If it happens that prowl diapears permantly from ur pets action bar after turning it of, u can always get it back by opening ur pets spellbook (same place as ur own abilitys), find prowl and drag the ability back to the pets action bar. Same way u can move/remove abilitys to modify this bar if u have no interest in using and or looking at them - removing them from the bar will not disable them u will see they are still active if u keep the spellbook window open during a fight.

I just found the Ghost Saber on the very first figurine that I checked.
Since it attacks right away, my stupid bird defended me, killing the kitty in one shot!#!@! Bye Bye Birdie...

I then found it again on my fourth figurine checked, amidst a bunch of alliance NPCs (I'm horde), where I instantly began taming it. All was well until a couple of those NPCs decided to come attack the cat, interrupting my tame! I carefully killed them both, and began to tame the Ghost Saber again.
I gave that cat "bloodthirsty" and set him to aggressive where he went nuts on those allies and came back to me happy :)

So, 4.0.6 he's still alive and well. I love the fact that when he prowls, he's virtually invisible.

i was lvl 60 something when i went for mine, accidentally kill the first one i saw, was soooo pissed at myself, 1st after 30 mins, then 2nd/last after another hour :( they are gonna be lvl 20 nomatter what lvl u are, so don't attack

Another post shattering taming on Azshara - Horde.

Took me 14 tries, another thing that caught me by surprise is the delay in which it attacks. I almost killed it, so be patient after each figurine loot.

My strategy was to circle around the big pit in the middle of the ruins, using eagle eye to scout behind me every so often. Found two to three statues in short amount of time, then a respawn.

Tamed today after the 17th cat figurine. These figurines are a pain to find - it seems there's not as many as there used to be. Look by all the broken pieces of masonry to find them.

I found mine mostly along the borders of the camp. One figurine spawn spot was by the PvP NPCs in the area, and the rest were by friendly NPCs. Not sure if that was just how it worked out for me or if it's usual to find more figurines by your faction NPCs.

When you get that lucky figurine, Ghost Saber will instantly spawn and start attacking you, so you don't have to wonder where he'll be. I was worried he'd spawn off aways and I'd miss him, but he'll be right there with you. :)

April 28th, 2011. I looked for around 17 minutes and gathered 8 cat figurines contained in Cat Figurine (container).

On looting the 8th cat figurine container and the cat figurine within, the Ghost Saber automatically spawned and started attacking me. Being a lvl 85 hunter, it was easy to tame.

I did not receive any Glowing cat figurine to summon the cat.

On statue number 13, it spawned, but because it was too close to the little night elf camp, the NPC came and killed it before I could tame it (twice) but then it spawned far far away from there and I got it on my 21st statue. I got it on my main prior to Cataclysm, so it's nice to have it on my Alliance alt. Happy Hunting!

Unless you're hell bent on getting this pet right at lvl 20 or any of the lower levels, then patch 4.0 gives you a new option: Pet slots, though you will have to wait a while. You get #1 at 10 when you learn to control your pet. #2 I believe is level 30 or 40 (possibly later, not 100% sure about that one). #3 is close to 70, #4 is at 78-80 (both my hunters were 80 when Cata was released, sorry), and #5 you get at 85.

The cool thing about the pet slots is that as long as you have 2 slots or more, you can simply keep a slot free by stabling your extra pet(s). So you keep your pet out. Then when you think it's safe, simply dismiss the pet, find your new pet, and tame it. The new pet you tame will go in the first free slot you have.

At present there is a bug where taming new pets in the higher slots can cause pets in the lower slots to become unspecced. Just have to watch out for that.

Just got this rather pretty kitty with my lvl 19. Not sure if anything changed in 4.1 but some of the comments above suggest you may have problems. In fact, the only tough bit is being patient waiting to get it to spawn (13th statue for me). The actual method is simply:

1. Click on Cat Figurines until the pussycat appears
2. Click on "Tame Beast"

That is all there is to it. I have very average gear giving me 643 health, I took just 156 damage before it was tamed.

Oh, and yes, the sudden death after about 5 minutes is a shock! But she does revive just fine!

Got mine yesterday! My hunter spent the whole week sleeping on the region, waiting for the damn Cat Figurines to respawn! After 12 (TWELVE!), I got the Ghost Saber! After 5 minutes, It died (so shocking!), and I revived it! Thanks for the "Patience" tip, I was about to give up! :P

i just got this pet in patch 4.2.0 so its still around it took me about 16 goes before i got it. it is quite a time consuming task if you dont get it right away dont loose heart you will get it and its a very nice pet to roll around with. i am Beast master and i still roll around with it just because i dont see many people with it

Then i can confirm it does!
Even though the ruins are full of trolls now the figures are still around and the ghost saber still spawns.
Please note that if it spawns from a figurine near the lil nelf camp the npc will kill it.

I didn't even know about these cats, but was collecting the figurines regardless -I thought they were pointless curios like the pickled murlock heads in the ghostlands :P One spawned after I killed an looted a troll, and for a moment I wondered what was going on.

I realised it must have had something to do with the figurines rather than the troll though, since the cat was lvl 19, and the mobs are much lower :P (11) but I thought it was about amount collected at first lol

Nice! I had this cat on my alliance hunter back in vanilla, and figured I'd get it again on my leveling hunter. Found a cat figurine in a minute or two, spawned him first try and tamed him. Also: RAF rocket and second account FTW! That'd be a long walk for a low level Hordie.

I went back on my 85 hunter and it took 17 statues for him to spawn. I'm not sure this has nothing to do with anything, but I eventually brought the lowbie toon mentioned above and had him loot the statues. It spawned for him after the fifth one and I tamed it on the high level hunter.

I got this cat a few days ago, I think Friday the 29th of July. Might have been the wed or thurs.

I was going to try and cut down on the amount of cats tamed until I got to Northrend but then I found out about this guy and just had to have him.

Took me until the 8th statue to find him/her and already had my other pets dismissed, I was Lv 63-65 so I had no issue with the enemies there.

The statues themselves were quite scarce with only one being spawned at a time, I realised this when after finding a figure, one appeared in a place that did not have one before. A bit irksome finding them but when they are there they seem to just pop out at you. I had done quests in this area when I was around lv20 and never seen a figure so I knew they weren't easy to come by.

When you know what to look for they are still well camouflaged but they do stand out, I found that they appeared next to a bit of rubble and most often close to where a Troll was working, mostly next to the rubble that had a Troll on it.

I suggest plotting out a path to take that covers all the rubble and the pits so you can get a good look. This allows you to make a good circle around the ruins, taking any detail and not missing anything. Look very closely to the ground and ignore the elf figurines that lie on their back (made me think i'd found a cat quite a few times). This is made a lot easier with a flying or swift ground mount but for the lower levels it's a decent place to gain exp/farm herbs/mine etc and very worth it as you'll have a unique pet at a low level.

EDIT: Totally forgot to mention this until now. My cat did not keel over and die, I have travelled a lot with it and it hasn't once died for no reason.

Just did this on a lvl 21 Dwarf Hunter. The figurine spawns werent TOO bad. All in all took about 1/2 hr of running around. If I recall, it was on about my 7th or 8th figurine that the cat spawned, and started to attack me right away.

Just wanted to add a note of encouragement to anyone trying to tame this pet (assuming anyone reads down this far): don't get frustrated if it takes awhile, especially if you're trying this at 19.

I decided to give it a shot with my 19 hunter. Took awhile to get to the ruins, died a few times getting too close to Ally territory (figured I'd get the exploration achievement while I was there), spent a good 20-30 minutes trying to find the cat figurines with nary a cat spawn...until my 12th figurine.

And the mob was 20. Couldn't tame.

I was ready to pack it in and come back once I hit 20, but on the way out noticed another figurine had spawned. Figured what the hell, clicked it....got a spawn, and a 19 to boot. After taming I found another figurine, clicked, and got another 19 spawn.

So keep at it, and don't get discouraged by the "got it in one try" posts. Most of us don't get that lucky.

This is a very cool pet to have at this low a level. Good luck!

Okay....got mine on the 9th try. I was SO ready to give up. It ~is~ true that they only spawn one at a time and in random spots. 8 times out of the 9 I tried, were near large rubble piles with Troll workers, using their picks on the rubble. It REALLY helps to get on your mount and ride around the piles, zooming out as much as possible and kind of looking over top the piles. Course you gotta look up some times to make sure you're still in the right section, but that's what I did and it helped a LOT.

Found a statue in the nearby Night Elf camp. It was my third one. BE WARNED! The guards CAN and WILL kill your precious Ghost Sabre. Luckily, I found a 4th statue a few moments later outside of the camp and got my lovely little Ghost cat :3 Named him Casper.

I spent a very long time trying to get an item from these Ghost Sabers. I went through 97 Cat Figurine Statues and 22 of those summoned the Ghost Saber.

Each statue included a Cat Figurine.

From the Ghost Sabers I got 17 Chipped Claws, 1 Thin Black Claw, 1 Blunt Claymore, 1 Canvas Gloves, 1 Militant Shortsword of the Bear, and 1 Glowing Cat Figurine.

If you are looking for the statues to summon Ghost Sabers, it appears to me that they always respawn at the same locations.

Went after the ghost saber with my lvl 20 hunter. I'm a trial account, so she's pretty twinked out, and it was still difficult for me to go from Org to Darkshore.

It was extremely difficult to find the figurines. After looting 23, the cat finally appeared. The whole ordeal, including the time it took to get there, took about 6 hours.

Worth it? Depends. I'm just glad that's over. :P

December 2011; my level 85 blood elf hunter just tamed this. Ghost sabre spawned on the first figurine I tried. Rather than attack it to get its attention (which would have killed it immediately) I ran through it and tamed. I left its name as "Cat", Shrodinger's Pet. Shrodinger is my toons name. The geeks out there will get it.

I was able to get this beautiful cat after looting 3 cat figurines! DAM LUCKY! and I still have 3 cat figurines to use! Very nice looking "spirit beast" without the prowl. Level 34 NE Hunter, Myzrael realm

I got lucky and it took me less than five minutes--it spawned from the second cat statue I found. I thought it might've just been luck because when I tamed it years ago on my old hunter, it took quite some time. Since I have the "Animal Companion" talent, I figured why not get her a twin, and it only took about 10 minutes max and four cat statues for it to spawn again, so it doesn't appear to be quite the grind I remember it being, making this a win/win situation.

I tamed 2 of these on my Night Elf Hunter in the past couple of weeks. The first I got at level 20 on my lucky 13th statue. But I gave it a silly name, and as there’s no Certificate of Ownership in Classic, I abandoned it to get a second on the second statue at level 27 (much easier that time, but I still used the trusty frost trap).

It almost completely disappears with Prowl, even when it’s right next to me. I love it. The attack speed is sad for Classic (pets still keep their original attack speed), but mine isn’t going anywhere. It looks great with my spotted mount, and despite not being that hard to get (0 deaths in both attempts for me), I’ve never seen another one as a pet on my server.

This may be a dumb question, but are there a limited amount of cat figurines? Do they respawn?

I happened to be in this area at level 19 on my hunter, and a level 20 Ghost Saber spawned which I could not tame. When I went back at level 20, I was not able to find any cat figurines in the areas I had found them before. I was only able to find ones in areas I had not picked before. Hence the question... will these respawn or is there a limited number of them?

I am going back today to see if I can find any more, but I was wandering around there last night and could not find any figurines.

Update: and of course, the second I post this, I found one more cat figurine, and the Ghost Saber spawns. Wooohoooo! For the record, I have 13 cat figurines in my bags, and the Ghost Saber has spawned twice (I couldn't tame the first one, as mentioned earlier). I have yet to find any cat figurines in areas where I had found them previously, BTW.

Now I try it in World of Warcarft Classic. It doesnt show after 14 figuirnes, but I was in party. After I left the party on 15th shows up. I dont know is the number increased to 15 or just shouldn't be in party.

Tamed today after approx 5 figurines. Level 20 Troll hunter. Used freezing trap. Easy to tame. I have not experienced the pet dying/de-spawning and having to resurrect (suspect this is not an issue in Classic WoW). Has been at least 15 mins since I tamed it. It looks beautiful and remains see through even in combat. Teaches Claw

Got lucky twice tonight, on only five figurines! Also, I didn't know it could be a problem if you're only 19 and it spawns as a 20, got lucky there too. After collecting all of Mystra's Relics for the quest, found a cat figurine. I thought you collected a bunch and then activate them to try for the spawn. Of course the first one spawned immediately, but I still had my regular cat with me, so I couldn't tame a new pet, bummer! Had to kill that one, sadly.

Now that I knew how it worked, abandoned my current pet, then we went around and found 3 more cats. The 5th one of the night spawned again! Luckily it was 19, since I'm only 19. I also didn't know it stayed stealthy, even without a 'Prowl' skill. Crazy! Now to find the perfect name... "Ghosty"? Can't decide...

Cat with a Rank 3, Claw...yes pls! Solo'd through Lord Cobrahn in WC with this at level 22 last night. Look for kitty statues in the ruins (outside edge), got one to spawn on 4th pull. Rick click your pet pane as you are opening the container and hover over abandon. When a Ghost Saber appears quickly hit abandon and cast tame. Had 20% hp to spare so don't sweat it. Don't know if there are any other translucent pets like this for Phase 1 either...so pretty cool.

They are in the game in SOD. Just tamed mine at lv 19. The first one I spawned was 20 though, it still came with claw rank 3. I kept my owl until I found a level 19 cat. Bring a lesser health potion as you'll need to abandon your current pet for this one. I did not use a potion and by the time I got him tamed I was around 15-20% hp. Mine did not die and have to be ress'ed once I tamed him. It went right to my side.

Did this today in SoD for my hunter it took 18 attempts with the cat figurines to summon the saber. Another hunter in the area got it done in 4 so be prepared to be running around the loop for a while if your unlucky as I was :)

Got it on the 19th cat statue, it's possible to keep your old pet as long as it is on passive/you get the Ghost Saber in a Freezing Trapp and don't attack it; Abandon old pet, tame Ghost Saber; be at least over lvl 20; being 25 helps that alliance don't really bug you

Finally! Took me 23 times for it to spawn. spawn point for me was Darkshore 63.0,14.9. Don't have your pet out, you need to dismiss it before attempting. The figurines will respawn after several minutes. Just keep circling.
