I found Ghostcrawler this morning around 12.00 on the server Nagrand. around 22,66 it spawn right in front of me ^_^ , he is neutral and to make it easier for hunters there is no other mobs in that area so track beast works like a charm with NPCScan ^_^ . Very nice pet, good luck to anyone trying to hunt this awesome pet :)

Just got him, camped for about an hour 11:45pm Sentinels server, but no nerf bat ability in his spell book. Still he's bad a$$ looking, hits like a truck, but has far less health then the regular crab I got from an earlier part of the zone. I will add a screen shot as well.

This post is definitely going to help clear some of the BS already posted.

I was looking for this guy before wowhead even added it to their website. I ended up finding him on my Paladin and than realized that it was a lvl 85 mob and that my lvl 80 obviously cannot tame him. Not many people knew/know about him still. No Hunter from my guild was on and I definitely wanted someone to tame him so I started PMing hunters to see if any of them wanted him. I watched this crab for 40 min. Time it took to find a hunter who happened to be in EPL and have him fly all the way over. HE PATHS ALL OF THE ABANDONED REEF. AND HE GOES IN / OUT OF STEALTH. When he does appear you'll see him. It's like a light in the darkness.

Tamed on Gilneas at around 7:15pm server time.. 20.8, 57.6.

I had four stacks of "nerfbat" on my by the time I finished taming him (was so excited I forgot to drop a frost trap). He only took out about half of my health, but the debuff itself is brutal.

Seeing as he's really the only thing out in this area, it's much less likely that another class will find and kill him... not to mention his massive health pool, as well.

Tamed on Durtan 6:20pm server time.

He was in the southern most tip of the abyssal depths when I found him. By the time I dismounted, got to the sea floor and dismissed my pet he vanished. He showed up again a short distance away. My first attempt to tame failed, as I had to use feign death to save myself.

He showed up again about 15-20 minutes later in the same general area. This time, I tried inflicting some damage first with the intent of dismissing my pet half way through...that didn't work either, and i had to disengage.

Fortunately, he respawned (or re-appeared) again a little further north within a few minutes (still in the same general area). This time I put down a trap and tamed him with 50% of my health remaining.

(edit: i put down a trap, but come to think of it, as the poster below noted, the trap didn't freeze the Ghostcrawler).

So far i've helped two friends in one week tame him and now im on the hunt! A few things i've noticed...

1) He phases (untrackable with Hunter's Mark / Track Hidden) in and out AND IN COMBAT so make sure to stack your haste.
2) He uses an ability called "Nerfbat" which afflicts all nearby enemies for 3-7k Damage (Approx 11k+ when taming)
3) HE CANT FROZEN WITH FREEZING TRAP!
4) He has a faint red glow to his eyes and bubbles.
5) His respawn timer is approx 10-12 Hours.
6) If someone attempts to steal him (very unlikely) Ghostcrawler will Phase Out and reset going back onto patrol.
7) *UNCONFIRMED* He is believed to drop the Crystalline Tear of Loyalty like the other tameable Cata Hunter Pets.

Edit: Now it should reflect live servers.

Tale:

I was sitting on the sea floor... waiting and I decided to go around once or twice and I felt nothing.. No Ghostcrawler, No other hunters, nobody here but me.. I hear a clacking noise but its just a tiny crab and I stop by him and pat him and keep moving.. when I notice something into the distance... realizing it was only a Stormvine I continue my hunt. I am now at the bottom of the Reef moving up until... he appears. Shock, relief, and determination wash over me and I lay down my freezing trap set, Rapid Fire, Thorny Broosh, and Hysteria flowing through my veins and before I can start taming him he diseapears and I thought "What a waste of time." and I continue my patrol but before I can even leave the area he reapears! Adrenaline coursing through my veins I continue the tame.. he hit me with Nerfbat several times and I thought "Not now.." and before I knew it he was at my side were he belonged.. all the Hysteria, Rapid Fire, and Adrenaline settled.. I hit the surface of the water and look into the sky and I say "Ghostcrawler.. Terrorpene.. and now its time to go for Karoma." as I head out towards Orgimmar to get some R&R before my Karoma tame..

Just had NPC scan go off at around 9:20am on Mal'Ganis for this guy. If you are using NPC scan I'd be wary. He was out of the designated blue area that the overlay for NPC scan shows(If you also downloaded the overlay). I found him crawling along the very edge of the cliffs on the far northern section of the Abandoned Reef.

Luckily I had been wandering in the odd triangle that is the reef since midnight waiting for him and being the only hunter even in the entire zone for hours, he was quickly mine.

Also a side note, be careful where you AFK for bio or food breaks on the Abandoned Reef. Kolorath hits like an asteroid and he pats some distance above the reef. Particularly close on the northern side where I found Ghostcrawler.

Tip: It slows you down, but you should ride your seahorse while on the ground, not swimming. If you ride your Seahorse, you will understand what I mean by this. Thus when you get near him (very close if you follow his path exactly) he should appear as anything else would while in stealth.

I found him, yet sadly enough an Alliance was looking for this pet too. It cast some poisons on me that killed me and she took the crab when it re-appeared. I hate Alliance..... >.>

Just got him at 5:50am server time. Didn't camp too long, maybe total of 1 hour scattered between dungeons and such. Didn't make the tol barad queue luckily, because he spawned right after TB finished. Very nice pet indeed :D

Tamed on Khaz Modan at 2:30AM (server time) on 12/31/2010.

He seems to spawn all over the area and NPCScan (overlay) indicates this. I concentrated on the western edge occasionally patrolling the whole area. I had tamed Karoma at 10:57PM the previous night (59,43) and was feeling on a roll. After about 20-25 minutes NPCScan went off and I spotted him at 21,62. Before I reached him a lvl82 feral Druid of my faction attacked him. That fight lasted only a few seconds with the Druid beating a hasty retreat to save his skin. But, alas, Ghostcrawler shot off and disappeared and I couldn't find him anywhere with my targeting macro. (Ghostcrawler is the one npc that makes me wish NPCScan didn't use the creature cache purely as once he's found, he's found until you exit WoW and clear the cache.) The Druid said he was sorry and thought GC might drop some good loot. Hey, np.

As he does stealth in and out and I knew he wasn't dead, I kept looking in the general area. After about 10 minutes I got a wp from the Druid saying he found him. I went to him (22, 66) and GC stealthed but quickly returned. I took a haste potion and wasted no time beginning the tame. I didn't lay a trap as I understood that GC is immune. I started at 97k hp and was at 46% of that by the end of the tame. Nerfbat is a sledgehammer...but it doesn't break the tame, so just stand there and take it and he will be yours. I thanked and tipped the Druid and he wished me the best with my new pet. It's always great to meet players who aren't jerks while seeking that elusive pet. Good hunting!

Hi,This is Foxyfairie from Shadowsong :) Well,I tamed Karoma this morning so i figured i'd see if i could get this spirit crab that ive heard so much about so i went out the the Abyssal Reef a couple of times today and and i spotted him on my second time out there just scurring around.He was pretty easy to tame.He didnt phase out or anything.Got him at 1:06 pm on the top,left side of the abyssal reef right by the edge.Hope this helps and Good luck :)

This afternoon at 12:30 something, i logged on to look for sambas and he wasn't there. checked for Karoma and tamed him :D
Come back at 5:40 and see if sambas is up again..nope :( so i decide to go check for Ghostcrawler and low and behold npc scan scares me and there he is :D what a day! now all thats left is Sambas

I assume that this would happen with all spectral pets:
If you use camo while your tamed Ghostcrawler is out, he completely (or very close to) disappears and you are left with a shadow on the floor with a name above it.

I tamed Ghostcrawler on Neptulon eu, late on Christmas night. I had just logged on and flown into Stormwind to check my auctions when all of a sudden NPC scan went off. I assumed it must have been a tamed pet but NPC scan kept on blaring, so I thought I may as well trek to Vashj'ir for the fun of it.

Grabbed the portal to Vashj'ir and had a quick fly round (the Abandoned Reef) without seeing any dots on the map, was about to leave when I thought I may as well do another lap when he suddenly appeared! Was so shocked I forgot to drop a trap (I now realise that it would have been useless anyway) and immediately started taming! Successfully tamed with 41% health left (little bugger can hit hard!)

Chances are that NPC scan could have found another hunters pet in Stormwind, however I wouldn't have gone to look if it hadn't gone off in the first place.

Tamed on January 2, 2011 at (19,84) on Area 52. Just made one lap around the reef area and saw him wandering around out of stealth. Easy tame - just got off the seahorse and hit Tame Beast. Only lost half of my health in the process. Haven't decided on a name yet, though :D

Found Ghostcrawler walking along the Abandoned Reef, he patrols around most of the outer edge and down the middle, and disappears quite often. He disappeared once on me before I got down to tame him, just watch your minimap for the yellow dot.

Tamed him at 10:50 PM server on Scarlet Crusade. Best way to find him is to visit the reef every few hours and do a couple runs round the reef, watching your minimap and NPCScan. I would do 4-5 runs JUST to make sure you don't miss him if he disappears. When you start taming him I'd DEFINITELY pop deterrence, he hits VERY hard, and was much worse taming than Terrorpene at 85, I was very afraid I was going to die.

It was pretty ironic, I was just talking to a new hunter friend I had met that tamed him last Friday, and was asking her a bunch of questions about him. I decide to go check, and 10 minutes later: "I FOUND HIM!" I was so excited, and she cheered me on as I found him and tamed him marking my third rare in one day (the others being Sambas and Terrorpene). We shared a bunch of taming stories and talked for a while afterwards. :) (Sorry to go a little off topic!)

Extra stuff:
His NPC ID is 50051 (for adding him to NPCScan).
His eyes are red if you look close!
He has a very interesting spell called Spirit Mend, not sure if other Cata Spirit Beasts have it but it says "heals the currently friendly target for 2703 plus an additional 1458 over 10 seconds."

I wouldn't watch the entire video, because it's kind of a waste of time, but if you pause at 14 seconds it will give you the map of where to do your runs and his patrol.

Got him tonite on Arygos and 12:10 am on Jan 2 on my hunter Lotharic

I started farming him by looking on Wowhead about 10:30 for his route. Made a /tar Ghostcrawler macro and spent a lil time mining obsidian ore, while i waited a normally long dps dungeon que. Spam macro.... spam, spam, spam.

I got my que for Lost City, the last two bosses only, and after finishing, teleported out at 22 65. I hit the macro and bam... there he was. I couldnt see him at first, because he is shockingly tiny, the size of a critter.

I went to tame him but realized I was still in Survival from the dungeon. As I changed specs, he stealthed out. Couldn't track him while invisible. I spammed my macro for about 2 minutes and there he was again at 22 56.

I hit Detterence, started the tame, and was at 50% when he was MINE!

I very quickly typed in his name and I have "Ghostcrawler" on Arygos. During the whole time, I never saw another hunter, only a DK that was mining.

He is near invisiblle in stealth and when you hit Beastial Wrath, can't see his awesomeness.... this needs to be fixed

Found Ghostcrawler about 1am-ish server while herbing on my death knight. Maybe a little earlier. Spent about 20mins following him while I tried to find a hunter who would come get him. I saw him on the left edge of the Abandoned Reef. This is on Lightbringer-US.

Tamed him just a couple of minutes ago, when i got Skoll. Found him at his usual place @ 1:54am stormrage server. The pet took my 50% hp away. But it looks awesome. Happy hunting mates!

This has got to be by far one of thee hardest pets to tame for the mere fact that he buries and becomes un-trackable for about (at least for me) a good 10-15 seconds so fellow hunters beware! and Good Luck!

It is a shame that he's a spirit beast. I was hoping to tame him but the only issue is that I am rarely ever BM since it's, as of right now, not that great except *maybe* in PvE. Even then it's kind of doubtful.

I found him near a sad-looking level 82 Orc hunter, who could only watch in disappointment at this 85 rare spawn.The spot was directly south of L'ghorek, on the eastern edge of that plateau, approx coords (32,75). He was stealthed as I was patrolling, but made himself visible as I spammed my target macro to locate him.

NOTE: You must be L85 beastmaster, and have a good health pool to absorb his damage, as you cannot cc Ghostcrawler with a freezing trap. (I tried a freeze trap, but he resisted immediately. His nerfbat spell will also set you up to take quite a bit of damage during the tame.)

This lovely beast is yellow neutral on your minimap, and will be the ONLY beast in the area. The whole spawn territory south of L'ghorek is devoid of any other mobs, so that will make spotting him easier for you.

Beware the 85 elite boss Kolorath, who will patrol around there at times (This monster will one-shot you for about a million points, from what I hear).

TIP: set up a spam macro instead of relying on NPCscan.

/tar ghostcrawler

Just keep clicking the above macro as you patrol, and you'll get more reliable results than NPCscan will give you.

My intuition says that this spirit beast will be much easier to find than other rare spawns like Sambas because of the remote location and less competition. (e.g. I found Ghostcrawler within 30 mins of my first time searching for him, but it took me 2 weeks to tame Sambas).

Be patient, have a good music selection to keep you entertained, and spam that macro as you patrol the area. Wear your best stamina gear, and you should tame Ghostcrawler with 40% or more of your health left!

Tamed Ghostcrawler, who is immune to ice and hits like a truck. I was worried about a 'fly by' from an 85 elite NPC that was passing just as the spirit beast spawned and didn't start my tame the moment Crawler hit me. That being said, half way through my tame he almost had me killed and then, luckily, he phased out. I pumped in some life and went about 5 steps south where he respawned from his phase-out and started the tame immediately. From there, the tame was easy.

Of note, I run NPCScan (which DID go off) as well as an audible, autotargeting macro which is very helpful because of his phase in/out. As the above post states, watch out for Kolorath (who is an 85 elite with about 7 mil HP) - I was literally running to get out of his path when NPC went off.

In my experience this isn't true (not mentioning the grammar). It triggered the frost trap and got slowed.

He can be tracked with Track Beasts, this is actually what you should be using when you are looking for a pet since they are all categorized as "beast".

And I find your story a bit over-exaggerated and miss-leading, since I had no serious issues nor did I get big hits during the taming.
Didn't even use any haste buff, protection etc.
Tbh it is not even worth mentioning, compared to the ranged attack of Terrorpene,
that almost got me killed in seconds, with complete dungeon heroic blues sitting over 100k hp.

Tamed at 8:50PM Server time (I think? 11:50PM Eastern Coast time) on Windrunner.

As mentioned before, he hits like a truck, and phases in and out of invisibility. I was camping the northern portion of the patrol route, when he spawned at 11:40PM.
I watched for about 10 minutes to see if he did anything interesting so I might have something to contribute, but it seems all his usual behaviors have been mentioned already. So at 11:50 I tamed him (with 30% health to spare) and logged off happy.

Camped him for about an hour and I got lucky and found him. Npcscan didn't alert me but my Track Beasts found it. When I first saw him he dissapeared before I could find my Tame Beast button. He re-appeared right where he dissapeared about ten seconds later. He was immune to my freezing trap and he nearly killed my hunter (88k, survived with 11k). Happy hunting everyone. :))

So I tamed Ghostcrawler today at about 3:25pm server time on the Realm: Akama
I'm usually the person who gets nothing from Blizz and gets ripped-off more than you can count...
But today must have have been my lucky day, literally I must have four leaf clovers all over me because of what happened today.
First, I tamed Sambas, someone tipped me the day before when they tame him, counted spawn timer and came then to find him just east of the Gullet: Horde base on the side of the mountain just a step from the ogre home.
After that I headed off to Uldum for some questing (cash) and then came across the rare scorpion guy (Madexx) he was the brown one, Looks freakin awesome and since scorpions have that good PvP ability he is now my PvP pet...
Then I get que for heroic to only land in stonecore which in that one run, I got ALL of the hunter gear from that dungeon and the orb needed for crafting without any resistance...
Then to top it all off: I was getting obsidium ore for my engineering stuff since i just made the epic goggles, only to find Ghostcrawler strolling his merry way along the reef...BEST NEW YEAR EV4R!

One of my guildies tamed ghost crawler at 12 am on 1/8/2011 we came back at 12pm 12 hours later and camped the crab out it didn't spawn till 12am on 1/9/2011 so for me the re spawn was 24hours not 10 to 12 this was on Thrall realm

when you are taming him make sure you are on the ground or you will not be able to fully tame him

On January 2nd at 10:57am, I tamed ghostcrawler at 18,82 in the abandoned reef area. It is an easy tame. I read that frost traps do not work so I didn't bother. He did disappear once but showed up in less than 10 seconds about a foot away. I got within range and started taming him. He got me down to 44% of health. By the way, the npc scan did not go off. The macro that I made alerted me. There was no one out there. I'm guessing not to many hunters know about him yet. The good thing is that you can pick herbs to past the time. There's lots of Cinderbloom out there.

How to make a macro:
1. /macro (brings up macros)
2. click new
3. pick any icon but you must enter a macro name which can
be anything you want, then hit okay
4. you must enter the macro command: /tar Ghost (you can
type out the full name)
5. left click and bring the icon down to your toolbar and
that's it
I used the seahorse mount and swam around, clicking on the icon.

Don't know if this will help anyone or not.

Nesingwary Server is where I was hunting for this guy. I sat around friday from about 3:30 CST till about 7:30.

During this time I mined, I found the rare spawn seahorse and at 6:45 p.m. Ghostcrawler spawned and NPC scan blared. I started to panic and hit tame but quickly realized that I was nowhere near ready as he was quickly killing me so I hit FD and he wandered off. There was no one around so I sat and ate and went to pop deterrence to calmly do this. As I turned towards him a alliance warrior suddenly landed in front of him and started to attack him. I figured cool I have time while ghostcrawler kills him which he did in fact do (and rather quickly).

I stood up and went to tame and noticed he had disappeared, no biggy I know he does that so I started looking around for him figuring he'd pop up in about 10 seconds...nothing. Swam around spamming my target macro, nothing. Spent 15 mins doing this before I exited the game, cleared my cache and returned hoping NPC would go off again, Nothing. He had despawned :( Now I'm not saying that he always does this, this is just my observation of what happened after he killed that warrior.

I don't know if that means he always despawns once he kills someone or if it was just a fluke however, 39 hours later at 9:45 a.m. this morning I had him spawn again and I didn't test to see if he would despawn if he killed me I just tamed him and hearthed out hoping to never have to return to his remote place again lol. I did make 20 stacks of obsidium while I waited :D

This is probably the easiest Spirit Beast to find, simply because there is nothing in the area to get in the way and due to the lack of questing there, few people actually venture back there. Add in his phasing in and out and people could easily miss him, so he stays around a lot longer than the other Spirit Beasts do.

Just tamed at 130pm Pacific time. Showed up at 16,75. Kept appearing and disappearing. He is a yellow dot on mini map. My NPC scan didnt pick him up right away until I got closer.

Based on the comments, and personal experience, looks like we don't have to worry about anyone killing him. If he isn't up, someone must have tamed him not too long ago.

Just tamed Ghostcrawler at 1130 am EST at loc 20, 71. on Suramar server... popped right under me then was gone around the west side of of L'Gorek then was gone...we played this game in that general area a couple of times....then I moved south and bam there he was just walking his route...this little dude hits hard as a dump truck...I had 100k hp and he took me down to 24k b4 I nailed him...so be prepared and GL to all :)

Hyjal server: 8:20pm server time

Was out leveling my druid to 85 while questing in Vashj'ir. i came across abyssal depths and decided why not check for Ghostcrawler. My huntard had already tamed him but i like to help others tame to. I didn't have NPCscan turned on so it was up to my eyes and my macro if i were to find him. I come across the most western spawn point(coords:20,68) and there he was(close to the same spot i had tamed him) So i followed him while searching through the who list for 85 BM hunters. Nothing. So i check the org list and i whispered 3 hunters and only one replied..luckily it was their off-spec so i told them to ninja to Vashj'ir while i followed him. It seemed to take her forever while she was getting here and me getting scared to death because of his phasing, kept thinking he had despawned. But lucklily she had gotten there just in time for him to come out of his phase and for her to tame! I didn't want to try and kill Ghostcrawler for the amount of hit points that guy has. But hopefully carma will come around and i can tame Sambas. She was very thankful that i told her about Ghostcrawler and iw as very pleased to hear that she was! :)

I found ghostcrawler today at 16:03 server time (Kazzak EU) I would not say that ive been camping this fella just riding through the abandoned reef a few times each day with my seahorse. I was going to leave the place since i didnt find him but then, the yellow spot came up on my minimap and BAM Ghostcrawler was spotted, the stupid thing was that i had my SV spec on so i had to go down to him change spec and abandon my current common pet. When i was going to hit the tamebeast buttom ghostcrawler dissapeard in front of me, in panic i mounted up and searched the small area around where he dissaperad, he was gone for about 10sec and my heartbeat was skyhigh and i couldnt belive i missed him. But then he came up through the sand again and i hit the tamebeast buttom and a few seconds after i got my new rare spirit crab :D

I tamed Ghostcrawler Today 1/15/11 at the northern point of 18, 15 on Darkhand at 1410. He is alot smaller than I thought, but NPC_scan picked him right up. He appears briefly so be ready with your tame spell. All in all a great catch for a pet, only Arcturis to go and i will have all spirit beasts tamed.

Tamed him today (15/1/2011) 10:43pm realm time on Dragonblight (US).

Started circling the abandoned reef 9 hours prior to finally finding him.

Tips:

Use npc scan addon (remember to clear your cache)!
Use a macro for backup (refer to previous comments on different macros)
Have a lot of patience!
Cast Deterrence (Forget about freeze trap - he's immune to it)
Cast Tame beast
Then sit back and stare into his red eyes :D

I had 40k hp left starting with 92k hp. Even with deterrence on for 5 seconds.

Good luck to the hunters out there! You'll find him eventually. :)

Note: I reckon he's one of the easier spirit beasts to find so far. The others were really painful (e.g. Loque, Karoma and Skoll). Why do I say that? This level 85 crab spawns in a place where there's hardly anyone else or anything else for that matter. Plus only hunters can tame him and nothing else can kill him.

Edit: Oh yeah, remember to turn on track beasts too. He'll appear as a yellow dot.

My goals are complete. Karoma, Sambas, Terrorpene and now Ghostcrawler.

Time: tamed at 5:35pm server. Unknown spawn time.
Location: first spotted at 24,70. Lost him, searched for another 5 mins, finally got him travelling counterclockwise at 28,82.

Tame was no problem at 85. No buffs, no Deterrance. Just took the hits and nerfbat and still had about 40k hp left of 92k.

Of course, I named him Nerf.

Found this beautiful crab this morning. Went to tame him and found that he is immune to the frost and freezing traps that hunters normally use to tame creatures. He skimmed right over them, and immune came up on my screen :( I did manage to tame him, but he does hit very hard.

Was following the patrol pattern the mod set out when I saw a yellow dot and looked up to see the small crab before it went stealth.
I dismounted and patrolled slowly in the around before it popped up again in ~2min
rapid fire + tame pet and it was mine

It's been 4 days, So far Iv'e caught Loque'Nahak, Sambas, (Right after hitting 85, Which was a very good 85 present :D!) and just now, Ghostcrawler, I was just going to get my Cloak from the Earthern Ring Rep, When I decided to go have a quick look for Ghostcrawler, remembering the spawns, So I had a quick look, Scouted the edges of the ocean, and there he was. Tamed it a few days ago at 32,73, Kel'Thuzad 8:50PM (PST) and I've got some tips that might help. It is, imo, the easiest (or less difficult) spirit beast you can find. It's tough to kill it and people won't make groups to do so since it doens't drop anything good, and because of it's stealth ability many people can pass through it without noticing so. I can confirm that he could be at any of the locations on the map above. If you find it and it goes stealth (which happens a lot), do NOT run all over the place trying to find it, just stand right where it was before it disappeared (because ghostcrawler will not teleport to another location, he will just keep following his route), don't move and keep spamming the /tar macro and it should appear soon (took less than 1 minute for me) just a few steps from where it was, within the range of the macro and the track beasts spell. It hits hard but I was able to tame it with more than 50% health left, without any spells or traps to protect me, and my gear wasn't that good (just the equipment you get from quests).

The phase out ability is SO annoying.
But, I picked Ghostcrawler because he is off so remote that I figured that nobody would be there; I was right.

I accidentally messed up my Deterrance, and so tamed without it. No worries.

If you are struggling with your camping, may want to go for this, since he's so much less likely to be killed by some jerk. (like Sambas was today on me.)

I got skoll yesterday and i felt lucky so i checked for ghostcrawler... to my amazement, there he was, minding his own business. I still felt a bit lucky, so i checked for sambas... tamed him and went to northrend to check for the spirit beasts there... GOndria was up but i let my friend have him.

They were all found about 4 AM server time. Moral of the story?

Checked his spot on and off for a couple hours roughly a day after another hunter tamed him. He spawned @ the very northern part of his route. I'd recommend camping that spot if you plan on camping this guy for a while.

If you're not very geared don't forget to start off with a Deterrence before you tame. He took off 70k of my 110k HP during the 10 second tame.

Tamed on Lightbringer EU, 25.01.11, approx 10.30pm GMT. I went there to look for more quests so I could get the achievement, and decided on the off chance to go and check his spawn points, as I had been quite lucky already that day (found Zul'Drak Sentinel, Vyragosa AND tamed Arcturis!). I did one circle of the reef, and was just about to head back round when my NPC scan picked him up just at the northern end of the reef! I dropped to tame and quickly dismissed my pet, but just as I was about to start the tame, he dissapeared. I mounted up, turned and headed southwards spamming the NPC scan target button and he appeared behind me about 10-15 seconds later. I dropped to tame but he dissapeared again, and reappeared further south about 10 seconds later again. This time I fired a shot at him and immediately started taming. He took me to about 40% health but other than that no problems. From what I saw, he does dissapear very quickly, so it's best to start the tame asap, but if you don't, he comes back pretty quickly too. Good luck, he looks awesome! :)

After reading all of these enlightening comments I decided to go hunt Ghostcrawler myself. So here it is 3 AM and I go to the Abandoned Reef and start righting towards the northern part of his patrol. I mount my Mechano-Hog because I feel like a badass riding it and I thought I saw him phase out over the hill but I figured it was just me seeing things hoping it would be him. I keep riding and I see a little yellow dot on my map. I mouse over it and it's none other than the almighty Ghostcrawler himself. I instantly began taming him, and almost died, but I toughed it out and now he's mine!

The good thing about this pet is that you can't really solo kill him and he's in an area where nobody has any reason to go unless they are specifically looking for him. Makes him far easier to find than just about any other rare pet. Also due to their being no other mobs in the area where he is, it's very easy to spot him on tracking (except when he does his random vanish thing every 1 minute or so)/

I was lucky enough to find this pet the 1st time I checked just a few days after the expansion came out (I was already level 85). Also found him the only other time I looked when I happened to be nearby....

Wish Blizzard would give the other rare pets similair abilities or locations so they wouldn't get randomly killed by none hunters who find them by luck.

Already got Sambas, terrorpene and Ghostcrawler, Gondria, skoll, Loque, Huhuran, Lord Kri and Chromaggus. Just after Karoma now and I will have all the rare pets I wanted from this expansion... Glad I probably wont be facing another painful search that it took to find Loque.

I found him while mining on my Shaman around 11:15am EST Duskwood realm.

I immediately hopped on my new to 85 Hunter and found I had no portal to Vash....I had not touched the zone since its not a favorite zone of mine. So I had to go through the whole RP event and then I made another mistake of rushing to the spot before the squid attack, so I had no sea legs.....

Hearthed back to Org had to go through the RP even again did the sea leg quest and swam up hopped on a boat hull and flew out there asap.

Got there and I could not find him for the life of me, so I start killing his babies, yes I know its silly and it might get some down ranks but I think killing the Crab hatchings helps to draw him out.

By the time I had gotten out there and finally tamed him it was 1 hour later.

Ghostcrawler is impossible to kill. With over 1 Million HP he can kill anbody with his Nerfbat Ability. His Nerfbat ability is an AoE so if someone is attacking your Tame Ghostcrawler will turn around and smack you and the attacker. You will both be dead in a matter of seconds because he casts Nerfbat every .5 Seconds and does approx 5-10% of your health per tick. So you have to be lucky if it takes 10 Seconds and your not dead. I had 99.99k HP when I tamed him so around 9000 dmg every .5 Seconds (Physical) luckily I had 1000+ Haste so I had a 3 Second Tame Timer. I went from 99k HP to 10k in that 4 seconds (4 Reffering to I shot him so it was an extra second). He was at the bottom of the reef and disapeared and waited at that spot he disapeared and he reappeared at that same spot so a nice tip will help y'all out.
Tip: Dont move from where Ghostcrawler last disapeared he will often reappear in that same spot. He is also Immune to Freezing Trap so dont waste your time trying to Freeze him, all that will happen is someone will swoop in and take your tame. Good luck everyone!

Ghost Saber is from Cat Family
Disembodied Jormungar is from Worm Family
The Lone Hunter is from Wolf Family, but seemly do not maintain ghost effect after stabled (Ty Tenebrus for info)

I tamed him on Gilneas server today. Hits hard but I still had 1/4 health left when he was tamed. He spawned (caught it on _NPC addon), I went to him, saw him briefly, then he disappeared. Heart sank. Then in about 10-15 seconds he resurfaced about 30 feet away from where I originally saw him. Pressed the tame button and I have a new pet with a great look to him. He spawned on the Eastern edge of the area (about 32,76). Good luck!

Lucky me, reached level 85 today and went to Vashj'ir for fun to check for Ghostcrawler. I put on Tracking Beasts and swim around on my seahorse, and after a few minutes I discover – to my surprise – a yellow dot on the map.

"It cannot be this easy", I think, and puts the cursor over the yellow dot, and yes, it says "Ghostcrawler". My heart is pounding because I saw two Horde players in the same area, I want nothing to screw this up, so I land on the ocean floor and use Deterrence while taming it. I succeeded, my pet was not happy when it was recently tamed, but I sure was.

just went to abyssal depths, around 81,24 and there he was! I was amazed when I saw it. Just put down the frost trap then went far away from him as I could and started taming. Got it! when I finished I was at 70% hp or so. and I'm not well geared, I just have 94k hp (:

Tips:
-get far as you can from him, it will minimize the damage you get.
-Keep on the Track beasts and Track Hidden.
-Don't paralyze when you see him xD (like I did >.<)

Tamed GC today around 10:30 PM Server time on Wildhammer. I'm level 85 with almost full Bloodthirsty and 1700 resil when I found him in the North West corner of his path headed south.

Funny thing was I accidentally jumped him in my excitement with Skoll out and had to dismiss pet, his AOE Nerfbat bringing me down rapidly as I attempted to do so. Bashing tame and watching the two bars racing; my HP and Tame Beast with HP clearly the winner(or loser? lol) in this scenario. And dead. I frantically swim back and res to swim around for 30+ min. spamming npcscan. Only to give up and go call my pet to leave, but what's this? A 4th pet in my collection, and he's a spirit beast! :)

Fun Fact: Ghostcrawler disappears completely when camouflaged, but have seen the same effect on Gondria, possibly a glitch.

Edit: No Ghostcrawler on the character selection window. This glitch is sure to make hunters everywhere sad until they fix it.

I dont know if i missed anyone saying this, but here is some helpfull information:

Spotted at 19:08 - had to dismiss pet, he went stealth, and appeard about 15 yards away, 20 sec later.

Tamed him with 92k Hp - newly dinged, had about 45% health left when done.

Better look on map plus have Npc scan AND target macro for this - i expected him to be a huge crab, but he is actually only abit bigger than critter sized!

Ok guys I tamed this marvelous creature at 1315, west coast server, location 19,58 on 02/09/2011. Ner'zhul server

I set out to look for pet today, took me 2 hours to find and tame after taming Sambas in Twilight Highlands on 02/09/2011, 42,38 @ 1114. Also, tamed Karoma the day before 02/08/2011, 65,60 @ 1522.

Before I proceed, please I ask all future tamers that you post the time and coordinates of your catch, I strongly urge you to post that aforementioned information. Trust me it will help all future potential tamers and I am very dure they will be greatful.

My Process
Tamed: 19,58 @ 1315

I have tamed many rare pets and before I went about taming this pet I did some extensive research. I graphed all the potential spawn points and their perspective times. I based the information taking into account the server maintenance shutdown as a factor, as we all know that during server reset spawn timers are reset, and other relevant information.

When I went about plotting my coordinates and times i came to the conclusion that there was a potential pattern on spawn points and times. I gathered all the information from this blog for the basis of my research. I went ahead and and listed all the potential spawn points and times to formulate a hypothesis for approximate spawns and my windows of opportunity.

As well all know, at least on my server, after reset servers go online at approximate 1100 hours. Based on the information provided by my fellow hunters; therefore, certain spawn points have a 30 minute window of opportunity at the beginning of the hour; however, saw some times where the creature has spawned at the halfway point of the hour (probably due to the fact that the beast could have been patting for a while).

For example: For the basis of this example, I am using 1100 hours as a starting point by no means a specific time. If server is up at 1100 hours, this vacinity (spawn points) 12,85 - 31,77 is a hot area to tame the crab.

From my research

I gathered this information: 12,85 - 19,84 (19,58 where I found Ghostcrawler) * 20,57 - 23,77 * 21,47 - 31,77 will spawn between 1100 -1130 (Note: I'm not saying this creature will spawn 1100 hours, using 1100 as an example only)

Spawn points: 24,70 - 32,76 * 79,31 - 81,24 will approx spawn 30 minutes after the hour. For example, 1130 - 1200

Conclusion
First and foremost, when I used the hours of 1100 that was used as an example, that does not mean this crab will spawn at 1100 hours or after. As well know this creature has a 10-12 hour spawn timer. Remember if this pet is killed or tamed the spawn timer will more than likely reset. Once again, 1100 hours was used as an example, because I know people will not read the full thread and will be dissappointed when they miss their chance to tame because you did not read the full comment.

Next, like stated above all my information was gathered from the other hunters that posted before me. Maybe all the information gathered and my assumptions that were formulated are a coincidence, all I wrote is an approximation its not set in stone. I understand that the information used was based from other hunters accross varios servers and for the most part all servers are different. But if you do your research and compare all the rares in the game (their spawn times) the times of taming are all pretty much within the same neighborhood. Coincidence, maybe?

Lastly, I hope this was helpful and not confusing, please do not bash or critique me rather help this post by adding more relevant information that may help another hunter. If you have any question do not hesitate to ask I will try my best to help you, i'll be more than willing to help. Also, do not give up hope or lose sleep over this pet eventually your time will come just takes time and patience. Like I said before, research in my opinion is key, I set out to look for pet today, took me 2 hours to find and tame after taming Sambas in Twilight Highlands on 02/09/2011, 42,38 @ 1114. Once again, hope this help do not critique this post rather help it.

Didn't see him till a few days ago when i was circling the patrol.
Somehow a Night Elf got to him before me. that was around 10 pm -ish.

Tamed on Argent Dawn at around 16:55 server time. Unsure exactly where, but it was on the bottom right hand side around 29.2 82.4.
I hadn't planned on taming this one but my boyfriend had been going on about how difficult it was because of the Nerfbat and had calculated you'd need over 100K health to tame it. He wants it for his hunter but was planning on taking me to heal him!
Having read the above comments though (and being bored because I'm off work sick and had nothing better to do) I thought I'd give it a go and, apart from the fact it stealthed on me twice, it was remarkably easy to find and I had no problems with it. I have just under 97K health and I think I was down to about a third by the time I was done.
Don't think the other half's hunter is lvl 85 yet but when it is I'll take him and show him how it's done!

I just ran into him around (21.47) at 3:42AM server time, the crab was moving from north toward south along the western edge (which means it's counter-clockwise along the loop according to my logic, I don't know if he'll change his direction or not).

As a just-capped lv85 hunter with 89k health (I was wearing greens and quest/faction 333 blues, entirely mail armor), he took about 65% away by the time I had him tamed, so it shouldn't be hard if you've leveled up and geared properly.

I used Deterrence before casting tame, which helps a lot, too.

There were 4 other hunters trying to find him at the time when I got into the zone.... I guess I got it really, really lucky. Must be some sort of fate because I had no luck for all of the other Spirit Beasts. I have been camping as early as patch 3.2 and never had seen any one of them, except Ghostcrawler... I'm now overwhelmed with joy.

As of all who read my comment i hope it will prove helpful... I have actually found this rare twice and iv concluded he stealths about once every 15secs four about 5secs and will pop up again (is not trackable with find hidden on) so if you think you saw him but your rare finding addon did not go off i suggest you stay there for a few seconds as this is how i found him the first time. GC is a fairly easy to get rare cata pet as not too many go to vash'jir and i hope you all out there get this cool rare tame and find many others such as Karoma Sambas Madexx Jadefang and my favorite, Terrorpene [= gl all you hunters!

I wondered why kept disappearing off my mini-map when I stumbled upon him.

Yes, I said stumbed. I was simply flying around Vashj'ir just to knock out that exploration (I was tired) and saw him. I didn't even know where he spawned.

I would assume this has been mentioned before, but just in case people might miss it, he's immune to freezing trap and yes that nerf bat kind of hurts a bit.

Tamed him on my hunter at 7:06pm server time 2/11/11 on Crushridge. Been camping the turtle for weeks with no luck, cept for one sighting where I was only 82 and he killed me twice with one tick left to tame... then some ally 85 swooped in and got him. Got my hunter to 85 and was lucky enough to find Ghostcrawler on the first try!

Just tamed Ghostcrawler at 5:00PM EST. On realm Perenolde I was just logging in and out from time to time. Total time maybe 3 HRS. No other hunters around at all when I logged. The area was like a ghost town. I logged on saw the yellow dot on my map, marked him and he faded. I remembered reading that he usually comes back soon and he did, like 30 seconds later. Did not bother marking or dropping a trap since he is immune to frost traps. Boom he was mine. Who thought I would be asking for a crab on Valentine's Day LOL. Terrorpene yesterday, Ghostcrawler today :)

Just got him at 6:30 pm Mountain time, on Dawnbringer server. I thought his respawn timer was 24 hours, and had seen someone get him yesterday at 6:45pm, so came a little early to scare off other hunters. And poof! there he was!
Sooo lucky! So happy!

I have successful tamed Ghostcrawler about 10 minutes ago on Uldaman (PvE EST U.S) with my Alliance Hunter, Mysticalfire.

When I heard of news about this pet, I decided to, of course, look it up here and read the info. I was shocked at the uniqueness of this pet, both in how it fights and the fact it's the only spectral crab Spirit Beast in the game.

So I went to that area, turned on Track Beasts and look around. Lo and behold, here it is roaming around by itself on the outer portions of the Abandoned Reef. Only one other person, a Hordie, was out here at the time and I didn't know if he was a Hunter or not, looking for it.

Like everyone else said, he does disappear. When he does, he will reappear not far from where he vanished in about 15-20 seconds. During the taming process, he dealt 40k damage total to me with 4 stacks of the nerfbat.

If you are out looking for him, keep in mind he is a very tiny spectral crab. Without Track Beasts, you probably can't see him.

Good luck to all that is looking for him. He is truly one-of-a-kind.

Caught Wed furthest sw corner loop of his patrol. Was waiting on Karoma and Sambas to spawn *note WHICH I tamed today roughly about a hour apart of each other /flex uber tracking skills and patience*

Nerf bat..is no joke in any way shape or form. Cruised his circuit not expecting him to be there cause Npc scan didn't scare the hell out of me. Saw a blip on my radar for a literal split second. mouse over..ITS HIM! dismount off flyer jump on sea pony and headed to sea floor at full speed. Check radar again and to be sure pets dismissed and had space and he vanished again rought about 20 seconds from first spotting. headed north about the distance of a mages blink. Launch trap out of reflex, resisted and felt the unholy OP freakish fury of the Ghostcrawler nerf bat..3k hp left....and I got a brand new spooky case of ghostcrab ;)

He disappeared 4 times before I could target him and tame him, a few times he was hidden for more than several minutes.

I now have all of the spirit beasts and this one is without a doubt the most difficult, he does give you a beat down with that nerf bat (to the ground!).

He's actually pretty small while he's around, so don't fly around too high above him or it will take a long time to see/target him, and you don't have a lot of time before he disappears.

Tamed this little beasty this morning on the Elune Server around 7AM Server Time. Sucker hits like a mack truck on steroids.

Not much strategy to it, turn on Track Beasts and Track Hidden, wander around the Section shown above on the map until you see his yellow dot on the mini map (not agressive). He will turn hidden about the time you start getting close, so grab him fast or use flare to find him. Once you start taming, pretty much all you can do is bite your nails and cross your fingers ... from what I've read it's immune to CC, I was flipping out so I didn't even try.

I use the SilverDragon add-on ... and the following Macro.

NOTE: I also saw a pretty mean monster swimming around overhead, that was agressive, named Kolorath ... has 6M Health ... level 85 elite ... so watch for that ...

I didn't come through all 150+ posts...but I did a quick search for the word "phase" and it came up with nothing.

I did JUST enough to get Sea Legs in the zone and then went hunting this guy. I found him straight away...but as soon as I ran in to tame him, he phased out. And this happened half a dozen times. The only place I could find where he would be phased in for 100% sure, is the very top of his path...on the left side of L'Ghorek.

Not sure if it was me, or if it's an issue...but getting Sea Legs and going straight for him may not be advised.

He is very small unlike many other rares (Terrorpene, Madexx etc.), but he does light up like a candle in the darkness so he's easy to spot. He hits like a truck (about 4k-5k per second), so make sure you are fully healed before you attempt to tame him.

Tamed at 4:12 PM server time on Darkspear just southwest of L'Ghorek. He is really small but he hits pretty hard! Tamed at level 85, health was at 57% after tame. He is immune to freezing traps as previously stated. Very cute little guy! :)

Just some quick facts:

He is immune to Ice Trap
Track Hidden will not show him on map while he is in stealth
Flare will not break his stealth
You will get the debuff Nerfbat

From my experience (getting it after seing Karoma spawn in the Twilight Highlands) it is much preferable to do the pre-requirement for the area first instead of flying over the Abyssal Depths.

I died 3 times getting him :
- First after swimming all the way down (Npcscan went off halfway down, hit target button, phased out instantly)
- Second while looking for it up north
- Third time while looking for it down south

I ended up taming it halfway through my breathing bar with very little health left.

In short, don't try this at home.

I had load of luck with this guy. After camping Skoll, Arcturis, Loque'nahak and Terrorpene for few days without luck i decided to try and see where Ghostcrawler roams these days. I made one circle spotted some shaman, queue for dungeon just popped up and there he was at 29.72 just spawned. I wasn't even in BM spec so i quickly changed spec and tamed my new buddy. Now for the rest of his fellows...

Just tamed him 12:30 server time, was swimming around vashjir farming herbs on my druid alt and found him walking around on the ground. logged over to my hunter and swam around for 15 minutes before i was actually able to tame him because he kept going into stealth before i could get close enough to use tame beast. Sheer luck that i found him. Best of luck to other hunters who are going for this pet.

Tamed him at 8pm server time +/- 5 mins (Hydraxis) he was at Location 24,67. NPC scan found him then he phased on me so I waited a min or so and he reappeared. I have only done the quests to get my sea legs and my seahorse so that should not effect anyone.

Tamed at approx 8 am on Borean Tundra server. Was flying through Vashj'ir herbing and ran into Lady Lala, ten minutes later into Shok'sharak, stopped to get killed by Kolorath, then decided to swing around and look for him out of curiosity and my boyfriend spotted it while I was looking to see how many spots it spawned in. Generally easy tame, wasn't very populated area with other hunters, but definitely need to have some health or a freezing trap to back you up since he took me to about 10k out of 99k. Marking him with hunter's mark will not stop him from phasing out.

This morning I found him at about 29,76, at the start of his path and in my panic forgot I was in survival spec. Marked him but he phased regardless and I was left floundering for 20 or so seconds before he showed up 40 yards to the left of where I'd found him and I was able to tame him. Curiously I have 99k health but he only took me to about 37%, no deterrence or anything, and I certainly remember my brother's hunter (in full 346's with some epics) being taken to atleast 20k by this little bugger.

I'd reccomend not camping this dude, rather doing a few laps of the reef every now and then ( I did it about 3 times a day, 5 days, before I found him ), simply because he's so out of the way and basically impossible to kill.

Beautiful pet either way, named him Darren.

Tamed him at about 3 PM server on Ursin. ~~I noticed that his health pool was only 1.5 million. Maybe that was just X-Perl rounding down.~~ Apparently that is his normal health pool now. THEY CANNOT NERF THE NERFBAT!

Anyways, I saw him up near the northernmost corner of the area he pats for a split second before he stealthed. I only saw him for an instant, so I had no idea where he was, where he was going, or even how fast he was getting there. It took maybe a minute of frantic flying around before I found him again, swearing to my guildmates over vent while they laughed at me. I found him and popped my haste and threw up my engineer's bubble, which caused Ghostcrawler to go "lol nub" and take it down in two hits. So much for a 16-19k bubble.

I did, however, manage to tame him well before he killed me. He got me down to maybe 65% of my pathetic 92k health. I don't really want to know how far he would have gotten me had I not popped berserking/rapid fire and not popped that bubble, however. :/ He isn't friendly.

His Nerfbat ability made me laugh. After I had tamed him, he had reduced both my melee and ranged attack power by 21%. Apparently that is all it does, though, a damage reduction. An epic damage reduction at that. I was worried initially that it might affect core stats, but that is not a problem.

I'm very happy with my new roaring ghost crab. I named him the only name I thought was fitting: Nerfbat. :D

Only one Spirit Beast remaining to round out my collection. Must. Find. Karoma!

For those hunting for Ghostcrawler, be sure to turn on Beast Tracking, and look for a YELLOW blip on your map, and not a red one. If you see a red one, you've come across Kolorath, a rather large, and deadly level 85 elite turtle-like death machine.

Just tamed him at 12:43 server time Ysera(US) at 21,54. I was doing the NPCscan test to make sure it was working and BOOM it goes off! Lucky I was the only one looking for him! He hits like a mac truck, I have 102k hp and he took me down to 20k. No haste effects were used.

Tamed him around 12 noon today, Argent Dawn (US).

NPCScan went off, but I immediately lost track of him. I thought I had overshot him, so I started backtracking and spamming /tar ghostcrawler ... he popped up a few times, but I kept losing him. Another hunter (opposite faction) came by, said something, and dashed off - I kept looking, to no avail, and surmised the other hunter had tamed him. After reading the comments here, particularly those stating he can phase/stealth in and out, I went back to the Abandoned Reef for a second search... sure enough, I found him again, and this time I tamed him.

I found Ghostcrawler at 28,73. On Ravencrest at 1 AM. NPC scan did not pick him even though I deleted my cache folder. I got a quick glimpse of him then he went underground thank fully he came back up. I suggest you go slow he is hard to see. Might want to dismount and walk the path he takes.

Tamed Ghostcrawler at 20:15pm on the Hellfire Server.

Didn't realize this was an 85 Elite due to it being in Vashj'ir, drops down, drops a trap and it doesn't work so i panicked and somehow stopped the taming, man this thing hits hard, was stripping me of between 5-7k per second, didn't take long to get my health down, so i feigned death and it disappeared, i was gutted!

2 mins later he reappeared again I hadn't healed up though, so tried again thinking i was gonna lose him and he killed me in seconds, ress'd and took the slow journey back to my corpse to find he had gone, so i quickly logged out to reset my cache for NPCScan, quickly logged back in and nothing came up for about 5 mins of swimming around, was about to call it a night and he popped up, i was full health by then and just kept taming until it was done :)

I tamed him at 9:30p.m. server time on Zangarmarsh Sunday evening 3-13-2011.

Just 10 hours before at 11:30 a.m. server time I saw Ghostcrawler while I was herbing on my DK. I told a guildy hunter he was up and he came and tamed him. Then just 10 hours later I took my hunter out to camp the area for the respawn and Ghostcrawler was already UP!

So I say the spawn timer could be less than 12 hours. I believe the spawn timer could be at least as low as 10 hours. There was no realm restart on my server that sunday as far as I know.

He is didnt seem to care at all about my ice trap, and broke right out of it. He took me down to about 10% health by the time I tamed him, but had I been further away when I started the tame and not worried about trying to place a frost trap, it would have gone smoother.

I havn't seen to to many people with this pet, for he is new. So since Cataclysm is still early, I'd reccomend looking for him now. I also reccomend camping for him, and not going in randomly for a short time, since he walks around and teleports to many different spots. YOU MUST HAVE A MACRO! He almost blends into the ground and is very small! You can only tame this pet at 85 also. Keep on track beasts too, he is one of the only animals down in the abyssal depths so it would probably be him. Make sure not to follow him planning and get to taming him imediatly because he teleported 2-3 times when I first saw him.

It took me a LONG time to get Loque'nahak - when he was the first / only spirit beast.

This time, I thought I would begin searching for Ghostcrawler - and found him first time out, in minutes. I suppose that's karma, for how long it took to get Loque'nahak.

What I did was to start working my way around the outside of the shelf - from the SE corner. I went around the lumpy SW corner and up the West side. When I got to the NW corner area (I was still going around the edge) - about level with the nipple-like thing, on the top of L'Ghorek when you press M / look at the map - there he was.

NPCScan was on and it immediately picked up Ghostcrawler and marked him for me. Considering how lucky I was and how quickly I found him, it took me a moment to believe that I had. I settled down, dropped a trap and he seemed to walk right through it. Nevertheless, I was able to tame. I then renamed and fed him

You might get lucky and find him with the location I described. Certainly, I'd advise using the addon NPCScan (or SilverDragon). If you have TomTom or some other co-ordinates addon, I found Ghostcrawler @ 20.5 48.5

When GhostCrawler burrows back into the sand, just back track his last position until he appears again, if you find you are having trouble taming him, simply use scare beast and hit any haste you have and tame him, I've noticed that when there is an npc with as much health as ghostcrawler or is being attacked by ally npc's that are helping you to kill a certain boss, say: Shadra where your allies in the fight are trying to kill her, I used scare beast and she ran around in circles and the taming happened a lot faster than usual, as did the same thing happened when I tamed Terrorpene, I used scare beast and he did the same thing, ran around in circles, not far enough to lose range and in a split second after hitting tame beast, he was tamed, glitch? idk, I don' work there. I do know I have all 6 spirit beasts in the game and my two favorite pets of all, are JadeFang for her ablitiy "Embrace of the shale spider" and any of the spirit beast, as they all have their spec ability being "spirit mend"

Now! if we could just get wow to forego the tamming of hydra's, we could talk them into allowing us to tame a mammoth, have it fight alongside us, be able to repair, bank and AH on it, and then ride it to the next quest. LOL! yeah right? ...maybe when mammoths can fly ;)

Alright, I got incredibly lucky this time round. I'd just decided to go look for this fella, and was moving towards his path preparing to make a round through his spawn points when my NPCscan picks him up the moment I enter his path.

Nearly forgot to breathe/how I had planned to try taming him since I knew about his Nerfbat, landed, dismissed seahorse mount from my spellbook (since I didn't have it keybound), dismissed pet, set down icetrap, forgot to move backward, shot concussive shot, nearly had a heart-attack as I watched my hp and the tame bar race... Loosened up when my hp bar was noticeably winning. And bam, he was mine.

I guess the fact that he's pretty much unkillable and that he's in a region most people don't venture to helps a lot.

I picked him up at 26.9, 81.6, Abandoned Reef @ 8.10am-ish (less a couple minutes probably while I was staring at my screen in disbelief; I'd never tamed a Spirit Beast this quickly before!), on Silvermoon server. He was patting away from me (relative to the direction from Darkbreak Cove), and thankfully didn't do the stealth thing I was reading about here.

And with that, I only have Karoma left. Hurrah!

Found him on Garona about 12:25 pm server time. Called a friend so he could tame. He was tamed at 12:35 server time location 23.82. I followed him for the 10 minutes while waiting for my friend. Now he has all of the spirit beasts also.

Tamed him on Illidan-US about an hr ago. NPCScan didn't go off until I did a rollover. Took about 50k hp off my bar (a few dust specks off 91k) before the tame ended. I didn't pop Berserk or Deterrence either.
Rather easy to tame if your hunter just hit 85 compared to some other pets.

Tamed him Shattered Hand at about 5:15pm. I was literally reading comments about him and how to tame him, tabbed back to WoW (I should play windowed mode), and freaked out when NPCScan went off immediately. After a minute or two of fast swimming and spamming the target box, I found him.

Conversely, I have camped Loque since the start of Wrath and have yet to find him.

A little luck goes a long way. Don't get discouraged!

My 85 Draenei hunter just tamed Ghostcrawler on Dath'Remar, 10:20AM realm time 3/23/11. He roams the Abandoned Reef, the area south of L'Ghorek in the Abyssal Depths. He disappears and moves around but with Track Beast (and your eyes) is easy to find again, since he reappears not far from where he disappeared. I lost a lot of health when taming him (he attacked me), but after a few failed attempts, he was tamed when I just ignored my health and did nothing to interrupt the spell. Immediately fed him Tender Baked Turtle (diet: fish, meat) and he was happy. Happy hunting, toons!

Hi fellow hunters!

Ghostcrawler here is a lovely creature and a great pet! He has a large walking area in Vashj'ir. There are not alot of mobs around him and he is practically the only mob in the area. There also is a sea beast who swims around, who is a red dot on your screen. Here's a few things about him:

- He has alot of health, over 1500k and does alot of damage.
- His ability named Nerfbat stacks and hurts.
- He apears as a yellow dot while tracking beasts.
- Frost trap does not work.

Curious is that he makes wolf/cat -like sounds at some abilities. Like Roar of Courage is a cat like sounds. And Ghostcrawler does this aswell, which is quite fun!
Other then that I suggest using the add-on named NPC-scan when hunting pets, any pets. It helped me alot finding all my spirit beasts.
If you are lower level, but sure to have a healer there or use haste pots.

If you swim to about 20/75 you can go up until the light uncovers everything (and set view distance to max, with everything else low if your computer isnt uber) and you can avoid the eliete mob that rolls thru, and you can throw your Eagle Eye all the way to the 3 corners of the triangle that he covers. You dont even have to move to camp him. I noticed that the southern tip is like immune to Eagle Eye. It would cancel it out as soon as I hit it. But from that spot you can see totally everything in the spawn area. Doing that I found him at 10:25 server time at 22/47 after 6 1/2 solid hours of camping, granted I didnt see him when I came into the area at first.

Tamed around 1:30AM on Alexstrasza. I'm going to make some people nerdrage with this post, but hopefully it'll be encouraging too.

Didn't set out with the intention of taming this guy. In fact, my intent was to go to Twilight Highlands to level my newly tamed Loque. I was distracted and ended up hitting the Vash'jir portal instead.

Had 16 minutes left on my hearthstone, so I decided to swim around and pick flowers. This got boring quick, and the thought of going and checking on Ghostcrawler popped into my mind. At this point, I didn't even know where he spawned. All I knew was that my boyfriend had mentioned that the place was depressing. There aren't very many on my server as pets still, so I figured he'd be camped 7 ways from Sunday. Like Sambas. >.<

I opened up my map and figured out where I needed to go. Upon arriving there, I look closer at his pat route and die a little inside. It looks like someone took a blue highlighter and drew a gigantic scribble.

So I start following it. Got all the way to the end with nothing, sighed, and turned around to head back out. This place IS really depressing looking.

Suddenly, NPC Scan goes off. Completely in denial, I swim around furiously clicking the target box until I find him, and then notice that his name is grey'd out. My heart sinks. "He's bugged...That's why he's up."

I attack him, and his tag switches to me. But he tears me town to about 7% health in 3 seconds flat. I Feign Death and eat. But he disappears while I'm watching him. Scares the frack out of me...I thought I'd made him despawn.

Then he reappears. I'm now thoroughly confused, but not about to lose him again. I tag him and hit tame. This time I don't take as much damage, but I was still nearly dead when it was over.

I now understand what people are saying when they talk about completely losing it during a tame. I was shaking so hard I could barely hold the mouse.

Got Loque this morning...Only Spirit Beast I'm missing now is Skoll.

I set up camp at 19, 69 and went to bed. At approx 2:30am NPCscan went off. This location has the added advantage of not agroing the 6.9million HP elite mob that patrols the western edge of the Abyssal Shelf.

He's actually quite small, so turning on Track Beasts helped immensely in locating him.

The tame was quite simple - while he hit hard, a conc shot followed by a Detterence and Tame Beast was all it took to nab him.

Hey, guys i got Ghostcrawler todat at around 15.35 server time on Eonar , was on my DK herbing as i saw the tiny crab with huge HP 1.55mil ! logged off got on my hunter , who was in SW then went to location where i saw him and threw trap he was immune while i tamed at same time, was easy and simple , my hunter is lvl85. He doesnt hit hard so u can easly tame. Good luck :).

I tamed him tonight. I want to add a little info that may help other people looking for him.

This is the second hunter I have him on. I found him at 10:00pm server time at loc 20.0, 70.5. If you use _NPCscan.overlay or can see the pathing on posted maps this is near the wastern edge almost in the middle of his path. Theres 2 long straightaways that meet. That corner where they meet, directly oposite that to the east on that path is where he came out of invis.

I was following his exact route and I literally walked over him and was at max range at least when my _NPCscan went off. I dont know if he had just spawned there or had just come out of invis. But if he was invis I didnt even detect him as I walked over him. As a reminder, He is immune to Ice Trap. - Track Hidden will not show him on map while he is in stealth. - Flare will not break his stealth. And dont try to kill him. He drops NO LOOT! I am on a dead server pretty much. Onyxia. After 2 nights of looking for Ghostcrawler I'm still unsure wether he just wasnt up or if I just never saw him out of invis. So if you are looking for him and dont have any luck theres a chance sitting in that location for a bit may have him appear for you.Or at least using _NPCscan along with _NPCscan.overlay Both can be found here Be sure to read the info on how to clear the creature cache once you have found a rare spawn if you want the addon to alert you again in the future.

I decided to take a casual stroll through the Abyssal Depths on my Hunter to check, and found Ghostcrawler within a minute. Unfortunately, I forgot that GC is level 85 and my Hunter is about to ding 84... so I facepalmed at my own good fortune mocking me like so.

Basically, remember that Ghostcrawler IS 85, to save yourself the heartbreak if you're a Hunter just crusing through the zone. There's nothing more painful than being denied.

Ok well i just made a wowhead account just for this i recently decided to start taming spirit beasts out of boredom because i usually just bs in org and since im hunter and its a uniqe class thing i decided to start collecting them but this is why i made an account. After looking for loque'nahak for three days spending hours constantly flying back and forth i found out that if you log in early in the morning before work/school it works great. Log in do a quick patrol and more than likely youll find them especially with wrath ones worked for me on arcturis and loque. So anyway i tamed loque'nahak at 6:48 am this morning logged off and went to school since i was only missing Gondria after that i flew to Zul'Drak after school to check for Gondria and she was easy to find because shes the only yellow dot you will see when flying over her spawns (tamed her 3:01 pm the same day. Two in one day? Thats nuts so i was like hell, might as well check for ghostcrawler because karoma and ghost were the only ones left. So i port to vash and check there within 5 minutes i found ghostcrawler(also neutral tamed at 3:27p.m.). So thats my story i highly advise logging in the mornings when less people are on so give that shot works for me a lot. Also i used NPC_scan overlay i dont like the addon just the spots on map but i use Silverdragon its much better in my opinion hope this helps you. Ill get a screenshot in of ghost today for you guys. These times are EST by the way. Good luck!

UPDATE: finshed my whole collection in 1 week got karoma loquenahak ghostcrawler and gondria in one day tamed karoma at 9:28 server.

After a careful bit of research (thank you, fellow hunters), and about 35 minutes of scouring, I found Ghostcrawler near the northwestern-most part of his route (sorry, I forgot to grab coordinates). I ate Skewered Eel to get my HP up to 102k from 101k, then downed a lower level potion for the tiniest bit more health.

Like one other poster mentioned, he did vanish, and then reappeared about 10 ft north with the raid target icon still over his head. I did not lay any traps, and his nerf bat left me with just over 54k health upon completing the taming process.

My average gear score is 338, and I am a level 85.

I just tamed this guy and I have a few bits of advice: First off, the place he spawns is usually deserted (at least when I'm there) even of other hunters. Second, if he stealths when you try to tame him do not panic! He did so the first time I found him, I got close and he vanished. Just go around a bit, keep looking, and he'll reappear. Finally, if you're worried about nerfbat killing you midtame, don't be. It didn't hit very hard at first, it was only towards the end it started to hurt, but I'm ilevel 321, and it was no sweat.

After finding out information from various hunters on our realm (Blood Furnace), we found out that he's on a roughly 24 hour respawn timer. First person I saw who had it tamed him at 8:02.
Next day, a friend of mine tamed him at 7:35. The very next day, she found it for me and i tamed him at 7:30ish as well. Then, the next day, my friend found it again at 7:45ish and a hunter from our guild tamed him, go dependable spawn timers :)

Found (and tamed) him today around 13:55 CET (06:55 server). Was swimming around on the seahorse mount and NPCscan picked him up, clicked on the portrait to find him, and a couple seconds later he disappeared.. Tried swimming around the spot I saw him last, but maybe 15seconds later he reappeared 30-40 yards away walking in the direction he was walking earlier. Tamed him no problem after that.

On Windrunner US at about 10:20 AM server time, I went to go look for Ghostcrawler for the fun of finding him. Of all the rares in Cata, it seems he's spawned the most, probably because no one goes to his area for anything else. I found him, didn't know anyone who wanted him, and the only other hunter in Vash was Surv. So I attacked. Well about 5 seconds later, I was half health and GC was at full health, despite my spam Arcane Shot. When I looked at his health bar to see if it was just a bug, I soon realized, to my horror, that I'd never solo him. Why?

He has 1549k health.

His Nerfbat hit for 5653 seemingly every time and reduced my attacks to tickles. Still tamable, he took the hunter I found down to half health from ~111k, but it's still very possible for any 85.

I must be one lucky girl.. lol my friend said it took him months to get it. I was helping him get his oil stained bird and when we were done I thought hmm.. I'm going to go see if GC is up, ( noticing he wasn't cached yet. )

So headed over on my slow as f--- 150% mount and took the long trek all the way down.

OH MY GOD he kicked my tush good. I was almost half way down and I feigned. AND THEN HE DISAPPEARED. I was freaking out in vent ( maybe its a girl thing? ) and my friend told me not to worry he will pop back up. I was still kind of worried but then I saw him again. I didn't even tag it this time, I just wanted him to be mine! and get the suspense over with. I ate a haste food buff and popped a haste flask I hit rapid fire, ( i don't even know if it affects taming but I did it anyway ) and began the tame.
He was hitting me hard, but I KNEW this time he was all mine, and I was right!

At 3:17am (6:17 server) I saw the lights of the successful tame and I squealed in vent. My friend congratulated me.
I did a /who to see if any hunters were in the area but there were none. So I hearthed back to org and announced it there.

I named him Ghostcrawler because I wanted to continue on his name.

My quest for pets has come to an end, I have them all. Kind of sad. =( But happy at the same time.

Nothing is wrong, it just isn't your time yet. make sure you have everything you need to make the hunt a little easier on you.

Don't expect him to be there when you go, you will just set yourself up for disappontment.

And most importantly.. be patient! It's been said before, and will be said again, these beasts come to you.

Edit: Just found it for my friend on Exodar US server at around 2:38am PST. I was following that thing forever while she did her quests to be able to get breathing in Vajh'ir.

Tamed at 23:53 server time on The Scryers. No surprise when he ignored my Freezing Trap but I was surprised I managed to survive the effort given how fast he dropped me from 95k to 40k HP.

FWIW, at 13k armor (33.83% physical damage reduction) Nerfbat was hitting for a nearly consistant 4770-4771 damage with crits at 6530'ish and a couple melee hits at 4366 and 3470.

The funny thing I went to Vashj'ir by portal to pick up a tabard and ended up in the Vern's cove instead of where I thought I'd end up. After that I ended up solo'ing Kolorath purely by accident. The accident being I read "L85 elite with 6m HP" as "L85 elite with 60k HP." >.< 20 minutes or so to kill him and me loving Aspect of the Fox the entire time. The coup de grace for this trifect of accidents was taming Ghostcrawler within 5 minutes of downing Kolorath.

Found him today on Arthas-US at 16:57. I was farming Karoma for hours and decided to check on him, popped on my mini map and tamed him, I'm a happy hunter :)

By the way, he bypasses Deterrence so Potion of Speed and pray to god he doesn't kill you.

Tamed today around 9am on Khaz'goroth (Oceanic).

I've heard from players who claim he is always up whenever they head down to the depths for herbs or whatever. I ended up patrolling regularly for three days before my tame (up & down the pat area at least three times every check). My server seems "bad" for respawn times, though.

My hunter currently only has 97k health in BM spec and that was fine for Ghostcrawler. I didn't use any pots and I definitely still had at least a quarter of my HP left by the time the tame finished, despite his hits. I had the same result with Terrorpene.

If you want him and he's eluding you, I recommend parking at the start/end of his pat area and doing a patrol daily before work/school. You should get him within the week.

I tamed up this beauty a little under an hour ago, 16:20 EU server time. Found him at about 16, 76 headed south. I used NPC scan, which did work, along with a target macro just in case. Took me down to about 60k/112k. Happy camping!

4:31pm, EU-Nozdormu next to his spawning point where he would begin his patrol. Had immense luck, 'cause I camped him today about 5 hours in the morning around 8am, then I gave up and did dayli hero etc. with my DK, but logged back for some materials and I was still in Vashj'ir and then _NPCScan came up...

I have a pretty good raidgear (ilvl 359) and he beated me down to about 20%.

1. He either can't be killed or it would take a very powerful raid (not sure that would even work - correct me if I'm wrong).

2. He is in an area in which there are no quests.

3. He shows up as a yellow dot on the mini-map - easy to spot as there will not be any other yellow dots.

4. Must be Beast Mastery spec to tame.

These four things are what (in my opinion) make him the easiest Spirit Beast to tame. Added bonus - he's 85 so you won't have to level him.

Side note: He's immune to Freezing Trap. Just hit "Tame Beast." It will hurt, but you'll live through it.

JUST tamed him about 2 minutes ago. I was too excited tha ti found him to notice if he was killing me or not. I think my trap was on CD but I started taming anyway.... I had thought he had an interrupt but tamed him just fine. I was using a /target macro that scared the hell out of me... I havent used it in a while and forgot the sound it had on it. All of a sudden I hear "YOU ARE NOT PREPAREDDDDDDDD! I was like "OMGGOGMOGMGOMGOGM" heart skipped a beat and everything..... more from the loudness of the soundbite than actually finding Ghostcrawler. Another hunter came up at the last 2 seconds of taming... thank you for not trying to kill me or Ghostcrawler. I would have done the same to you except I would have also /cry while you tamed him. U followed the path NPCScan gives you and smashed a macro since I knew my cache had already stored Ghostcrawler from some hunter a few days back and i forgot to clean it. Cheers and good hunting.

I found Ghostcrawler at this morning at 9:05am eastern time (26,82) on Malorne server. :)

I searched for him for a couple hours yesterday with no luck. Today I found him after 10 minutes! NPCscan did not go off, but track beast ability worked as it should. When I got in taming range he disappeared. I almost got sad but having read other posts I remembered to just walk up a bit in the direction he was going and he'll appear again. He does hit kind of hard. I have have 100.3k health and he got me down to 46%.

He is such an amazing beast. I wish all hunters on the search for him have the best of luck!

Just tames Ghostcrawler at night around 2am at night in Argent Dawn EU..he was just walking to the right side of the Abondoned Rif so was very easy to find.I was looking in my mini map when i noticed yello dot that isnt sparkling, at very first few seconds thought its the mines like usually, but than I realised its Ghostcrawler :) Was checking this pet time from time and finally got lucky!Nice crab...I like Spiritbeast, so for any Spiritbeast lover this is a pet to get.I wish you very best luck!

Tamed on Kirin Tor at 2:20 am server, Sun. 5/1/2011. Have him on my other hunter and is best tanking pet I have. So came here 2x before looking for him for second hunter with no luck. When I saw him I couldn't remember a thing about how to tame him, and died 3x. He hits hard on a fairly new 85 hunter, barely decently geared, and I was frantically looking for something in my bag as a buff. Took about 6 tries, trying to read notes between them quickly and not lose him. NPS scan doesn't work so he's a yellow dot, friendly mob. /Target Ghostcrawler threw up a mark but doesn't reappear when he does after stealthing which was every 2 min. it seemed. Traps don't work, seem to anger him and then he hits harder. So the secret for me was to start tame beast as far away as I could, hit Deterrence when he immediately got close, and have healing potion handy. 6th time was the charm!

You need that extra distance especially if you're not at high gear and power. From what I remember from my first hunter he was stealthing more frequently and more quickly than the first time. He reappears fairly soon, down the blue npcscan line :)

I found Ghostcrawler (or it found me) around 15.30 at Sunday 1th of May. I randomly logged in to my brother's account to play a bg on his hunter. He was standing in Abyssal Depths because he had camped it a bit before. While I was figuring out his key bindings, NPCscan suddenly alarmed and Ghostcrawler come passing by. I have never played a hunter earlier, so I didn't dismiss my other pet first. That resulted in Ghostcrawler killing me. While I was swimming back to my dead body, a friend of mine logs on and I tell him what happened and he comes to my aid. We split up and after a couple of minutes we find it. While I'm taming it, he gets this "good" idea of taunting him so I wouldn't take that much dmg.The taming process then is interrupted, obviously, and Ghostcrawler goes stealth and disappears. So we split up again, and when we found him I finally successfully tamed him, on the third try :).

Some interesting info for those who tame ghostcrawler. I entered the battle for gilneas battleground and wanted to test him out in pvp. He's small, so harder to target than the other spirit beasts, but here is the kicker: his special ability is suppose to heal for 3-5k and then 3k over 10 seconds. Instead, he heals for 5k on contact and 3-5k every second for 10 seconds. With a 28 seconds coolldown, it adds up.

We had a knock-down-drag-out at the mine for 10 minutes with me flag hugging along with 5-6 other allies. I got over 450 honor, because in addition to my top dps, I also got top heals. He healed for over ONE MILLION health over the duration of the battle, and I was credited with the heals. I don't use mend pet when fighting that hard, too busy staying alive, it was all him. Spirit bond, 2 points in bloodthirsty (pet talent), plus his spirit heal, he's one sturdy crustacean, this guy gives a truckload of honor just for showing up. :)

He phased out in the middle of my first tame, leaving me low on health. Had to eat up quickly and move down his path to try again. Worked on tame try #2. He had me from 103k down to about 30k before it was over with ilvl 344 gear.

I was roaming, so can't say where he actually spawned or how long he had been there. I camped while queuing for a dungeon, and when I got out I started roaming again and there he was.

As other posters have noted, he's quite a bit smaller than you expect.

Spotted him while on my mage, there were no hunters in the area or anywhere that answered (well, one but he wasn't BM specced and could not get him). So I switched to my hunter and went ... well, hunting since i figured he'd STILL be alive. It only took about 15 minutes to find him with beast tracking on at a 18,65 in the Abandoned Reef.
He does indeed wail away at you while taming him, but I don't think I got down to more than half health as I started taming him from near max distance. Should be fun to see what a spirit beast is like finally!

I have found him twice now and can confirm that he shares a spawn timer with Terrorpene. The first time I found Ghostcrawler I tamed him and hearthed and went to pick weeds in Hyjal and came across Terrorpene less than 15 min after taming Ghostcrawler.
The second time I was in Org and saw someone advertise that Terrorpene was up, and I immediately went to Vasj'ir to see if Ghostcrawler was up and there he was. :) Hope this helps someone.

Moral of the story: If you want Ghostcrawler and you see Terrorpene up.. Make haste to the abandoned reef!

Got 'im: Hydraxis realm, at 8:49PM. Was checking Poseidos' spawns, and finding nothing, I swam over to the Abandoned Reef hoping I'd get lucky. Turned on beast tracking, spammed my /tar macro, and he was literally right below me.

Tamed quickly from max distance, and didn't get below 60%.

A very easy way to tame him is to use Deterrence and then cast Tame Beast I tamed him not too long ago although you'll need a bit of health I ended up with 3515/111k (Drums of forgotten king buffed).

From what i saw while stalking him.... i noticed he stealthed between 25-40 seconds and unstealthed for 30-65 seconds..... dont know if its 100% accurate but when i was watching from for last 15-20 min hes been getting between those numbers for unstealthed and stealthed.... also for a quick guide to new campers.... One: Follow his path but do multiple runs he may be stealthed while passing him.... Two: when camping Stay close to ground there there is a 6 Million HP i think elite who stays in that area.... 3: Do not Attempt to kill.... no loot 4: hes immune to icetrap so using Detterence would be good .... 5: he gives a debuff that goes up to either 5 or 10 stacks been awhile since i tamed it but it reduces your stats by 10% each stack i do belive he has like a flurry attack aswell so that'll do some heavy damage... 6: i was wrong bout the flare it cannot unstealth him while hes stealthed... 7:Track hidden will not work either 8: his speed does not go faster or slower when stealthed so if you have _NPCscan Overlay follow his speed as if he was right beside you and count to atleast 25 ... and he'll show up soon enough .... 9: He is a spirit beast that means you need to be in Beast Mastery in order to tame...10: Must be 85 to tame 11: has 1.2 Million HP Another reason to be made as a hunter pet :p... 12: being a spirit beast.... he will not be granted the clench or however it spelt that disarms the targets weapons for 10 seconds that regular crabs have....!

Ghostcrawler doesn't show on track as beast, undead, demon, hidden. I had to swim around and find him. Took about 20 minutes for me. It's also immune to cold traps which doesn't make taming any easier. I didn't see any aggro mobs in the area that others mentioned. Could be just luck. Makes a beautiful pet.

A little more anecdotal evidence that some of the Cata rares may share spawn timers: I was on my hunter because my guildies had found Xariona and needed help killing her. Right after we downed her, I figured I might as well check out the Abandoned Reef just in case Ghostcrawler had popped as well. Swam over, NPCScan went off, landed, abandoned my poor non-ghost crab, and tamed. I didn't have an issue taming him without Deterrence, but your mileage (and health pool) may vary. Named him Callinectes - the genus of the Chesapeake blue crab (and also Greek for "beautiful swimmer").

ETA: Ghostcrawler tamed by another hunter in my guild at 12:20am, 6/1/11. As I was herbing on my lowbie mage (level 66 - yes, I had help getting out there) when I spotted him, I can confirm that Nerfbat does not do a set amount of damage. It instead does a set percentage of damage, as it was dinging my mage for about 300 dmg per smack and dinging the hunter for 13K. It is also AoE (as I found out the hard way). This means that gear is not as much of a limitation for taming this guy as I'd thought, and also means that no matter how geared you are, Nerfbat will still hurt the exact same amount if you try to kill him.

I had been sitting there for about 5 minutes when i saw a flash of blue, this was the first night i decided to try looking for him, and the first time i'v had extreamly good luck finding a spirit beast. Pro advice, when you fiddle around L'ghorek at level 83, having just finished the Vashj'ir quests there, and wanting to have the explorer achievement for the zone, don't decide to "Just take a look around."
I did. Thinking; "Hehe, what are the chances?"
Naturally npcscan lit up like a christmas tree when I was halfway around. I facepalmed, told a friend who told a friend who wanted to tame it, so at least I was a bit useful.

Hit 85 a day or two later, went directly to try and find him again - hung around for half an hour near midnight (server time), nothing.
Got up at 9 (server time), and found him again at 22,56, pathing westwards. Had him phase in and out a couple of times before I got the tame in at 9.14 (nearly panicked when something showed up on my humanoid tracker).

He hits pretty hard, but even as a newly dinged 85 with 80-90k health I was never in danger of dying.
Named him Greg. Well because obviously :P

All this on Eonar-EU.

Edit: Probably the easiest spirit beast I've tamed, even with the extreme luck I had on Arcturis, Gondria and Skoll (which Loque more than made up for!) - probably due to the only competition you have is other hunters, not all of whom are interested in spirit beasts.

I must have incredibly good luck when it comes to the rare pets of WoW. This is my second tame today of a spirit beast.

I decided today that I wanted this pet. Go to Vash'jir, spend 30 seconds looking and my dungeon queue pops. I went and did the dungeon, came back and the sea monster was right by. Swam around the sea monster and BAM yellow dot. I had seen three other hunters pass me so I didn't think I would get it. He disappeared and I freaked out, but he came back an agonizing 15-20 seconds later a little bit downstream. Tamed him straight away. As a newly dinged 80 with 90k health I had no problems. He hits hard but I still had about 50k left when I was done.

Tamed it just now. Was swimming around the pat area with the /tar ghostcrawler macro. I went around the outter patrol area, then went to the inside. And it was walking on the ground when my target box locked onto Ghostcrawler. It got me to about 25-30% HP before the tame finished. I guess it depends on the hunter community of each realm. I would think this rare pet has to be one of the easiest to tame because of the location. Seriously. Who the heck goes back to Vashjr for fun? Unless you're a hunter looking to tame this.

I set out to tame this little bugger a few days ago. My hunter was at 83, so i sent my DK just to check the area first. When i arrived - there he was, just crawling around 32*71, going north west. Neutral and 1,5 million HP. So, the next day after dinging 85 on my hunter I went back. This time he was no where to be seen (typical), and i had to camp out for about 10 hours before he appeared again, This time at 20*59 heading due south. Now - having just dinged with green gears and bearly 90K health, i had my worries. I was alone in the area, so i figured I would try tameing without ancient hysteria and pot. He hit pretty hard, but in total I think he got me down to 35-40K before he was mine. So all the posts claiming it to be a hard tame is imo falls. Any how - the coolest pet in the game - absolutely lovely.

I got extremely lucky with this guy. I was in Vash to get some Earthen Ring rep gear and thought I take a peek to see if hes there or not for the hell of it. I was swimming by and I got the achievement for exploring Vash. No more than 5 seconds later NPC scan went off at 31.2, 77.8 location at 10:08 PM Blackhand server. Im so excited :D just need to tame Karoma and I have all the spirit beasts :DDD

How the taming went I poped a freezing trap but he immuned it so I just went with taming. He was hitting me for ~3-4k on a average questing gear with a few dungeon drops. (ilvl 314 atm) with 92k HP. I was at ~20k hp when I completing taming.

Got him yesterday morning, I made my loop around the area, and was about to log out when he spawned in front of me! I just used a potion of haste, and tamed him with about 30% health remaining. About 6 hours of farming total between 2 days, this one was a luckier one than some of the others ive farmed! good luck all, you'll get it :)

Roamed the Abandoned Reef for about two Hours. Even followed the 85 Sea Monster on his loop just to see if the Devs did anything special to link the spawn to the monster. The Monster may have been nerfed in the latest patches, I got very close and didnt aggro.

Mined a lot of to pass the time and violá there he was, right next to a node so he didnt show up on my beast tracker and NPC scan didnt sound until he phased in completely.

Here is an interesting note: This NPC is scaled down already, so dont search for the usual (larger than average) NPC that scales down after its tamed. He was really small on the sea bed floor. Western edge of the shelf where the big nub goes vertical to the north.
If I had not been off of my Sea Horse swingin' my pickaxe I might have missed him. :>P

FYI I am one fortunate soul, in the span of about 4 hours I nabbed Skoll, Arcturis and Ghost Crawler. These spawn timers may be related to a cycle for each server repectively, so I am off to find Gondria and Loque'Nahak, maybe Jade. I am not sure if it is possible to tamed them all in 24 hours but here goes nothing!

After the tame of Karoma i was so excited i thought i would go and check out my next task GHOSTCRAWLER!

I had read on some previous WoWhead posts that going to other rare spawn locations right after a rare spawn has hit for some people and low and behold it DID for me.

Stats: same server as above
Time: approx. 11:10 pm Server time
Location: 23, 55 Just south west of L'ghorek

Had got in to the zone and hit my Seahorse to take a tour of the new location i figured to camp for the next few days. Made one pass up the shelf along it's western coast to say. and then made my turn to head back and start over when BOOM! the scanner goes off and holy crap there he is appeared about 40 yards in fornt of me. i knew i had to be quick because he phases out and jump's every 30 seconds. so i ran over and threw down a snake trap to aggro him( that and to possibly throw off his Nerf Bat). well i got his attention and tamed him. but i tell you what he hit's HARD really HARD i started with 95k ended up with 7k health talk about a meany he is one.

Days like this are why Hunter's are the best out there. Only a hunter will know what it is like to wade threw hours of endless boredom only to have that SHATTERED with a few seconds of sheer heart pounding adrenaline.
Anyways to all those out there looking for these awesome pets i hope this helps.

Flew my hunter briefly into Twilight Highlands looking for Sambas this morning and ran into Karoma flying back to SW, so that was a nice touch. Almost logged but decided I had never looked for the famous crab we all know and love, so I went to the Abyssal Depths and sure enough, there he was. I also found Terrorpene two days prior, so it's been a pretty good week taming so far! At least it makes up for flying up on the Time Lost Proto Drake's corpse a couple days earlier....

Found and tamed this one on the first shot. Of all the spirit beasts I've gotten, Skoll, Karoma, etc. Ghostcrawler was by far the easiest to find and tame, he doesn't seem to be one of the ones that people are hunting non stop at least on my server.. I went back a week later and found him yet again just wandering around, the /who list showed no hunters in the area so I was forced to just leave him there.

I camped and tried to tame Ghostcrawler today. Unfortunately, having waited several hours for him to spawn, he wouldn't allow me to tame him. I followed him around for over half an hour, constantly hitting him. However, he never turned aggressive or attacked me. The tame channeling would fail immediately. After all the chasing around another hunter then suddenly appeared out of the blue and tamed him in 5s.

I haven't done any of the quests in the zone apart from the sending quest from Stormwind and the first in-zone quest to get my Sea Legs. The other hunter said she'd done nothing special to tame him, but couldn't see me there at all. Could phasing have had anything to do with my failure?

With all the commotion going on with the new rares added in 4.2, I looked for a max of 5m before coming upon Ghostcrawler. I thought that he might be one of the rares that had a fairly good chance to be spawned since everyone and their mom is camping Skarr or Deth'thalic. I was, in this case, correct. I think people might have a fairly higher chance to find rares like him right now before the Molten front activity dies down. If so, good luck!

I was likely one of the first on my server to tame this guy. As soon as Cata launched, I lvl'd my hunter to 85, then started searching for this guy. His nerfbat hurts, but he's not too hard to tame and he's pretty neat. I don't like how he's so small though. You really can't appreciate his beauty like you can with the spectral cats and wolves.

I just rode around the area on my seahorse until something popped on track beast, then dropped down and hit him, cast deterrence, and tamed.

Alright, on my 85 hunter Løathmë <Politik> Frostwolf, i have tamed and Attempted to kill Ghostcrawler, i would like to confirm/debnk some of the following:
-He does not have Nerfbat (which is actually limited to abandoned reef despite its range) when tamed, ofcourse. Like other spirit beasts he has Spirit Walk, Spirit mend, Roar of Courage, Claw, and the classic Growl.
-He does vanish after 20-30seconds of combat. So to kill him (1550k/20-30 = 77500 - 51667 dps while under the affect of Nerfbat), So Yes, to answer all questions he is a BM Hunter Tame-only Pet.
-He is immune to not just hunter but all crowd control tactics.

Tamed him at 9:43 a.m. on Proudmoore. Cords 16.87 - 87.40. He did his disappearing act then showed back up about 20 yds away. Tame was quick and lost less than 25% health. Went to Vash'Jir to tame a Pyreshell Crawler because I was on a spree of pet taming and found the markings on the crab fairly cool. So I tamed it, and I remembered that Ghostcrawler spawned nearby. I went "Lol, why not." to see if it was there. Within ten seconds of chilling in the Abandoned Reef, BAM! Found him. He then dissappeared which caused me to freak out; I tabbed in to WoWhead to see if he's supposed to do this and my thoughts were confirmed. Tabbed back in, saw him again, and mashed that tame button.

Ghostcrawler Tamed - Edlond, Wyrmrest Accord.

Tamed him approx. 2345 Realm Time. This was rather hard for me since I had done no questing in Vash on this toon.

What I did was fly up to Ironforge where the fatigue strip is thinnest, flew over with plenty to spare. Skimmed his path with my flyer, had a shammy helping me for breath and tracking. His dot is totally visible from the air, the shammy was below the water tagging him to hold him in place while I made my way down to tame.

He seems to stay in place for a solid five seconds before going into stealth, and he moves rather quick so be on the move in his direction when you lose sight. I wouldn't recommend alone with no underwater buffs/mount, but it was totally doable with epic flying and a shaman lock to help with water breathing. I guess you could use the pot, but it helped to have someone who could breath tagging him.

He looks absolutely gorgeous, and well worth the effort. Harder than Skitterflame IMO.

Found him while patrolling for him about a week ago (so 8/20/2011) was shocked to see him and I don't know whether this will help others or not but he is small! (i.e. he will grow bigger once your finished taming him) - if you search for him and do not have NPCScan or a Macro set up for him - swim close to the ground as if you swim too high you will not pick him up!

Happened to me while searching for him, kept seeing spec's of blue but couldn't pinpoint if it was him because he kept phasing out as well as he was too small for me to pick up that it was him due to how high up I was.

He does hit hard - at 100k HP at the time - at the end of the tame, while using a Haste Potion (Increases haste by 500 for 15sec.) I was left with around 53k HP.

So he does hit very hard - so be mindful of that when taming him! I was fortunate enough that there was literally no one around for the entire time I was searching (around 30 minutes) So he has been the easiest Rare Pet that I've ever gotten (perhaps this is due to people in my realm not wanting him or knowing about him or sheer luck )

Named him Wrath - he is a very cool looking pet! Especially if you do the Vash'jir dungeon with him! >:D

I just got Ghostcrawler, I came to Abyssal deapth and he wasn't there. After about 2 min he spawned right infront of me, at one end of his path trail. After about 20 seconds he despawned again! I didn't even have the time to target him, and I thought it was maybe a bug so he was programmed to spawn two places at one time and therefore despawned and spawned in another location and it seems I was right. I started moving down his patrolling area and there he spawned beneath me a little further down the road, so he is either a real ghost or sometimes bugs when he spawns.

got him on the first try. bout halfway through his long ass route. npcscan went off... targetted him and he disappeared.. bout 30 sec later he came back up. marked him.. hit him with SS and starting taming. he took me down about 65k HP.

Hello Hunters,

I whas watching for him afther i soloed a whale shark for the achiev ( dont wanna be ego, just being happy :) ) I whas swimming on my mount and walking on the ground aswell for fun, whas kinda like my char whas on the moon or so. And then my npc scan went off, he spawned left of L'GHOREK. Dont remember the time, but indeed he hits very very hard. He had me down to 10% i though.

There's only one other mob in the area, and its hostile so hunters watch out! its easy to find him though if you're looking at the minimap.

Its funny how he has Roar of Courage, like a cat! So definitely unique

I got him tonight on US server Arygos with my hunter Sylvain at about 2:30 AM.
I was bored so I figured I would park my hunter on his pathing route and play another game and see if he would spawn tonight, on my way to his pathing route NPCscan goes off and I see him as I am swimming down to the ocean floor.
As I get in taming range he dissapears and I keep following the route he was talking and he comes out of stealth and I tame him :D
He took me down to about a 3rd of my hp, I now have him, the Arcturis, Gondria, Skoll, and Karoma for spirit beast.

This lovely crabby appears to NOT BE TAMEABLE as of this version! Way too bad! I tracked him for 30 minutes and each time I tried (3 times) I got the not tameable error, got nerfed down to a sliver of health, then he vanished!

Less then an 1hr ago i annouced on my twitter page, "Arrived in Abyssal Maw, Ghostcrawler hunting commences, 5 - 20hr spawn time /joy"

49 Minutes later, Ghostcrawler spawns "OMG WTF" i thought then he vanished, i thought NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So i kept clicking his icon incase he casted /invisible or something, sure enough he pops a few mins later and i score him, within 1hr!

I found this guy on 25.6, 83.0 at 9:30 on Tarren Mill.

I looked for about 3 hours the night before and didn't find it until I woke up this morning and literally got him instantly.

97k health, got me down to 47k. He's not hard to tame; he wont kill you while you do if you're wearing the gear you've collected levelling to 85.

Also, Kolorath is not a danger to you as if you just walk on the seafloor mounted with Sea Legs, he's never in reach to aggro you.

Good luck hunters, I'm now a happy Ghostcrawler owner. But what to name him...?

k i dont want to be another one saying i tamed him at xx.xx but i just did and the reason im posting this is cause, a DK PST me in the middle of BG and asked if im interested in a spirit beast and i named 3 which i didnt have including this one.he invited me, went there and tamed, he didnt even ask for anything so, i guess descent people can still be found in this game.
he did a /who hunter.....lol i was the lucky one he chose ;)

Toured the area on my Hunter in the shape as per the first page of posts.

It seems odd to me that thanks to Ghostcrawler I now love all DK's, even blood ones in PVP. Today, on my Hunter, I tamed Ghostcrawler after a long long hunt for the git. Strange thing is I was following a DK about trying to figure out why on earth his Ghoul pet showed up on track beasts. I almost fell of my chair when there he was, scuttling about in a reef and before long belting me with the Nerf Bat. Amen Ghostcrawler ure mine now.

Happy days all round I think, unless the DK was looking for him too haha nerf DK. Jk for goodness sake Jk.

I tamed this critter earlier this morning. I swam up above the water, got on my flying mount and made sure npc scan was enabled. I flew over the water, npcscan went off, i swam down and got him. He hits hard and is immune to slows/ice trap/scare beast. I simply took the abuse and tamed him while he was attacking me, took me down to about 20% health.

I had actually found this guy after killing 3 rares in Vashj'ir within an hour and right after I killed Shok'sharak. I'm not sure if their spawn times are related in any way, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I was following Ghostcrawler around the reef while waiting for my hunter friend to come and tame him. He stealths/goes invisible for a short while before reappearing again nearby, so I was getting a little frantic because I thought he had despawned or something.

And he does hit like a truck (lol nerfbat), so if you want to tame him, I would advise that you bring someone who can heal you or try and trap him.

Just got him within 2 hours of looking! I was doing BGs while waiting and all of a sudden my NPC scan went off when I returned. I quickly swam down to the floor and ghostcrawler disappeared on the map. He will do this repeatedly so get down to the ground and circle around until he reappears. He hits really hard but I got the tame. Love my little ghost crab :)

Just tamed this guy. been camping him for 2 days. left my hunter in the area while i lvled me druid, logged into my hunter ever 2 hours and swept the area. i gotta say if it wasnt for npc scan i probably would have missed him.

also while he was attacking me he disappeared but i managed to find him again thanks to track beast.

all in all was worth getting he is my new favourite pet. got him at 12:45 (noon).. PS he hits very hard.

This has to be the most easy to get of the spirit beasts. I never even seen a untamed Loque Narak, Skoll or any of the others even when ive camped for hours. Well ive seen Skoll dead once, thats it.

But this one appeared after a whopping 15secs of swimming around in that area. Really nice pet, and my first Spirit beast (and i guess only cause of the others rarity). So if you find yourself in Vash´Jir and want a Spirit Beast, spend a half minute to search and like a half minute to tme and youll have it. Happy Hunting folks.

Thank you Blizzard for putting in a Spirit Beast pet in your game that is easy to obtain and doesnt require an endless amount of time and patience to get.

Tamed around 11pm @ Daggerspine (18.8,61.6). Ran around ocean floor for about 15 minutes before NPCscan went off. Ez tame at full health, no fancy potions or deterrence needed.

Loving the model, but it doesn't hold a candle to Banthalos imo :D

Fond him at (29,77) in the Abandoned Reef at 3:15pm server time (Anvilmar). It took me a few times to tame him because he kept disappearing on me. I would then close the game, clear my chache so NPCscan could find him again for me, and try again. The third time was a charm. careful though, he seems to hit pretty hard for such a little guy.

Just got this guy today (3:26 pm), was flying above the sea since i don't have the sea horse mount, saw him with my track beast. started to make my way down, halfway down he disappeared i thought someone else nabbed him so i yelled out to anyone maybe in the area then came here when i had found no one nearby. Found out that he turns invisible and appears somewhere else took me three sightings to get him after that. This is my favorite pet at the moment and wish you all happy hunting out there! :)

Tamed him at 4:00 server time on azuremyst going north from the bottom of the map. He had quite a long spawn time, around 12 hours (assuming no one snagged him somehow in between).

Hits hard, had me at 30% (out of 120k) but totally worth it.

Not positive that it hasn't been said, but I found no posts saying it, so just to be sure....

This "stealthing" Ghostcrawler does is far more akin to phasing IMHO.

I went over to Abyssal Depths on one of my free time Spirit Beast hunts (mostly for laughs) with a rogue friend. Did a full circle to no avail, just as we were about to leave, we saw him ( I squealed on vent so loud I heard it on the rogue's mic). Hit tame beast and prayed.

Yeah, Nerfbat STACKED? AND hit my friend (who I strictly told to let me die, of course).

But here's the real kicker, I hit tame at max range. As he swam over to me..... HE PHASED OUT!

Tame Beast BROKE and I had to hit tame a 2nd time.... think I lived by like 200-ish HP O.o;

Worth it BIGTIME tho, Found Spirit Beasts good for multipurpose pets. Named him "Cake", to my Hunter Creampuff.

There is a bug on the 4.3 PTR where all hunter pets KEEP their abilities after being tamed.
This means Ghostcrawler uses nerfbat in BG's etc.

Just got Ghost Crawler on EU Azshara 1:37am Server time at 27, 72
I was standing around ready for the long haul, reading these comments and contemplating my impending demise when NPC scan went off and about sent me out of my chair.
He appeared just a few feet in front of me, I targeted him, hit deterrence and started tame.....
I'm in very crummy gear with 90k life, and was at ca 50% when the tame was done.
All in all, much less dramatic than I expected.

My friend found Ghostcrawler about 50 minutes ago on Terokkar EU
Tamed him 5 mins after finding him.

That nerf bat hits pretty hard, be careful when taming him as you CANNOT trap him.

He also phases like Warp Stalkers (those weird lizards in Terokkar Forest and Netherstorm)
He would be scuttling ( spelling? ) about for a few seconds then magically appear somewhere else further off.

Get ready to do /tar Ghostcrawler if you're busy taking screenshots of him to prove that you saw it. :3

A few comments:

Found patrolling a large section of the Abyssal Depths in Vash'jir.
It is a Spirit Beast, so you need to be a Beast Mastery to tame it.
It hits hard, be 85+ with decent gear or you may die before you finish taming it.
Using defensives and Tame Beast after, helps to take less damage.
Make sure _NPCScan has the options: "Always shows all paths" and "Search for completed Achievement NPCs". You find those option in "Interfaces" -> "Add Ons" -> _NPCScan. The reason to have those enabled is to be able to see their possible locations on your map and Mini Map, it helps a lot!
I had_NPCScan and SilverDragon add ons, and _NPCScan did not alert, SilverDragon alerted a few second AFTER I saw it in the mini map. My advice is, have Track Beasts ON and watch the mini map.
It will disappear for quite some time and even Track Hidden will not detect it. Be patient, the fact that you can not see it, does not mean it is not there.
It is a Neutral NPC. I would recommend to open with an attack before it disappears.
it is immune to Freezing Trap.
Make sure to wait a few seconds parked over the area before moving to the next one, sometimes they are there and if you just pass by you can not detect.

I went the first time to vashj'ri, flew above the sea and dismounted my drake and dropped myself to the sea, dove to the bottom of it, and i dove straight to ghostcrawler and tamed. And that's why i went there for!

There seems to be much less interest in this pet. Whilst hunting for Poseidus I've seen GC spawn at least 5 times, and I can't get interest in guild OR general chat. The interesting part for me watching the mob is how he walks along for a bit, then just phases out/vanishes. He's completely gone - you can't even target him. I am sure he did that on release, but I can't recall seeing it when I tamed on my hunter. I still think this pet looks great, and I hope that hunters continue to want to tame him!

I just came here to say that if I ever see this crab in-game I will go out of my way to log on my arms warrior and bring justice to this villain. /slap /spit. Ghostcrawler you criminal scum I sense you mustering and plotting with your little claws and your little nerfbat, trying to decide which class to grief next... like some kind of internet troll trying to get his jollies. Well let me tell you, you won't nerf warriors. Know why? Because you're scared Ghostcrawler, that's why. We all know you're scared of our recklessness+bladestorm.

You can't nerf warriors anymore even if you had the guts to do it. Nerfing warriors anymore than they are right now would just break the game entirely. You won't do it. Activision won't let you, because they need the game's integrity intact to continue making money. As demonstrated with the mere 5% damage nerf to fury warriors which we merely brushed off our shoulders, a spiteful blow at best. You're not even allowed to buff frost mages anymore, because it made 15% of the player base rage quit and Activision stepped in with a 5% nerf to frostbolt just to put you in you're place. Face it Ghostcrawler you are defeated on all fronts.

I love this spirit beast. Fantastic. I don't see hardly anyone around with him. As long as you've got a good amount of health and tame him at the farthest distance possible. Other than that, you'll be fine.

found him on the far eastern path just turning south, was not aware of his going in and out of stealth, thought npcscan was screwing up, used guild "have grp, will travel" to pull my wife's toon, tuff, fast suxr, got her down to less than 50% health on tame. Very kewl indeedy. TFC server

While doing the exploration achievement, I decided while I was in AD I'd search for him - sure enough, there he was and he does hit fairly hard, even for a well-geared 85 hunter. Another neat rare added to my collection - good luck to all you who wish to find and tame this little beastie.

For all you wondering, he is indeed killable. We downed him today with 8 man, but it's probably easy doable with less if you bring the right class.

About the "world-boss":

He got 1,55 million hp.

He walks around 30sec vanished and then 30sec visible and attackable. His vanish timer does not start or gets altered by him entering combat, so if you try to kill you should prepare to start as soon as he exits invis.

He will cast Nerfbat about 2 to 3 times per second, which does damage (7k on 394 rogue leather) and applies a debuff reducing your damage done and healing taken by 20% stacking up to 4 times. The debuff lasts 1minute.

These two abilities leave you with a <30 second window for dps'ing him and a 0,5-1,5 second window to apply dots which remain at full damage like combustion. So you should try to apply high damage dots with as many players as possible within the first global cooldown of the pull to kill him before he vanishes and resets.

He drops the obligatory Crystalline Tear of Loyalty and nothing else.

Anyway keep in mind this is a nice hunter pet and you should probably tell your hunter friend he is up than assembling a raid to down him :).

Tamed Ghostcrawler tonight at about 4pm server time on Frostmourne US...for Level 85 BM he was a pretty easy tame, popped rapidfire then tame beast. I don't know the exact co-ordinates but he was around the central area of the abandoned reef.

1053pm Alleria just now was cruising the floor dont have NPC scan or anything else he just popped up on the mini map. dont know the coordinates but was roughly sw on the reef. took up about half of my HP so being LVL 85 is highly recomended. An 83 or 84 could prob get without too much difficulty though.

8pm ET Feb 11th (US-ER) Tamed this beauty! I decided to follow him (not knowing if he drops a mount like Poseidus, or if he's a rare tame like Sambas, Skarr etc.) and he disappeared on me! I was so upset, found some thread that he'll pop back up, he goes into stealth mode. So, I just started walking where he spawned and spammed my /tar macro. Found him, ran to him, and he went stealth again. Waited patiently and he came back up. Popped Deterrence (sp?) and tame. Beauty was easy, ended up only loosing 1/4 health. Happy hunting! Don't forget, just stay calm if he disappears on you when you find him. It was my first time out there (just to see if he'd be there). He showed up at the Northern/Western point of his spawn area.

I found him directly south of L'ghorek. So hopped on my hunter and swam all the way there, found him patting around the bottom edge of the cliff threw on Ancient Hysteria and tamed only get me down to 50% HP thanks and happy hunting!

Ok..so I just tamed him about 1am on the Bloodhoof server. I found him by accident which was suprising cuz I have NPCscan and it did't go off. Also, Ghostcrawler is smaller then I thought he would be. I don't know why but I was expecting to find this large, hulking crab but instead I found a slightly smaller then average WoW crab.

Charmed him last night around 10pm on Lightninghoof.

After failing to figure out how to tree sit to wait for the owl, i decided to see if this guy was up, he was indeed, and no one was around.

Waiting for him to go stealth then reappear, popped deterrence, and began to charm.
Only took about 60-70k damage. (i just turned 85, so i'm not decently geared)

Got him! 7:30 am ST on Aegwynn. Now I need more stable space. He filled my last spot.

He got me down to half health and I am level 85 with mostly ilevel 378 or better gear.

I had already done some of the Vashjir quests to have water breathing, the underwater ground walking speed increase and the mount. Otherwise this could have been a painful camp/tame process.

BTW, NPCscan did not go off. It told me he was already cached and did not show me the path he takes so I just kept watching the red and yellow dots on the mini map. For anyone else who needs the information, he is a yellow dot and relatively small on the ground. I found him around 19.1, 57.0.

He DOES disappear and reappear in about 10 seconds, but further in whatever direction he was traveling. I had to do some running to catch up with him.

I read the posts about how he seems to not be hunted anymore and I think that must be true with all of the rares/spirit beasts at least on my server. I went looking for rares and spirit beasts over the last few days and managed to find all of them except Lapress in Silithus. I am starting to think with my luck I ought to play the lottery :)

Being that he's very difficult to kill (impossible for most), and he's in a remote area in which no quest requires you to travel, he's quite often up. The only people that will be out here are other hunters, so finding him up should be significantly easier than other pets.

Finding him could be a bit more tricky. If you zoom around the area on your seahorse, it's possible that you could pass by him while he's stealthed. Check multiple times to be sure. Obviously, use _NPCscan to make it easier.

As for the actual tame, no tricks required. I just got in range, didn't use any traps or anything, and hit tame pet. He got me down to 40% or so before he was tamed. Don't bother with any precautions, they just waste time (especially with competition). Just hit tame and enjoy your catch.

It's a pity he can't use nerfbat on everything else.

Just found him i was very lucky :) i have been 85 for 2 days now i have all 9 spirit beasts i have been catching on those 2 days:) i was very lucky with ghostcrawler i found him after like 15 mins :) tamed him 22:30 eu@thunderhorn :) tamed by hundelorten :-)

This guy seems to almost always be around. The 3 times I've checked him he's been there, perhaps just not many people camping him? I found him the first time I was there, and while looking for the seahorse, I swiped past to get him for my friend and there he was. Made my friend very happy ^^ So I would suggest going for this dude as he seems to not be hard to find.

Edit for some info:
Download and USE NPCscan, as he goes into stealth mode. I was VERY lucky when I got him as he never stealthed. But while getting him for my friend, we had to run around for 3 minutes and looking, once he appeared for a split second. So if NPC scan goes off and you can't find him, smash the target button and be patient :D

I just tamed him tonight, and I am including comments because I couldn't find any that told me how to tame him without being killed. I got a priest to bubble/heal me and I got around his 30 second reset by starting the taming the second he came out of stealth. You have to be careful with big heals because it will pull him off the hunter and onto the healer.

Tamed at 1:20 p.m. kilrogg realm. confirmed only beast in area. I did not see any of the elites. April 28, 2012 and he did phase in and out, thought I'd lost him but he reappears a little ways ahead on his path.

Found him yesterday at about 20.57. Terokkar, EU. At about 20:00pm realm time.

It was in fact only the second time of looking for him. I spent about 20 mins each time looking for him, vaguely swimming around the general area plotted on the map.

Was almost jumped upon by the massive elite nearby as i didn’t notice his red dot till almost too late. Feign Death and brown trousers worked a treat.

I suggest using a target macro for ease. Mainly due to him being so see through and tiny it can be hard to spot even with his little yellow dot from your track beast search skills.

I swam up to him and he disappeared. Don’t be alarmed if it happens to you. Luckily i had already read previous posts and i just swam ahead a few yards and waited, he soon popped back up again and i hit my macro and hit tame beast, im at 391 average level for my gear and he wiped about half my health. As long as you are 85 then im sure anyone would be fine.

Just tamed him around 11pm Garona server time. This was my 3rd trip to the Abyssal Depths just for him.. It is true that hardly anyone comes here but it doesnt seem like he is always up. I camped here a short while a couple days ago. This time i just completed some dungeon runs and decided to come here to check.. NPCScan went off and I see ghostcrawler.

He does phase in and out just gotta keep NPCScan mob preview up to click to target him.

This was my last spirit beast I had to find to complete my collection, I found him my first time out. He's quite an easy tame, once you can find him. He phased in and out a few times before he stuck around long enough to get my tame off.

I just tried today to tame it and it now says it is untameable. I am on the Uther server so it must be different on certain servers. I am lvl 85 hunter with beast mastery, I have been able to tame other elites. This 1 has hp of 1.5 million.

Today i found Ghostcrawler at 20.69 3.33 server time europe Lightbringer was just reading about him on the forums and got lucky to see him with track beast like someone said up there that track hidden does not work its right it does not its hard to get him since he hits like a truck i had 135k hp and i had 60k hp left so go careful only you have to do is shoot him so he does not vanish and tame him ASAP (as soon as possible) or he will kill you without mercy

here's a tip to taming this guy: 1st pull him with a couple of shots, then when he's about to hit you pop deterance & then hit tame beast, FYI he is immune to freezing trap; thx to this method i (starting with less than 100k hp (no k on my hp bar, just #s)) tamed him w/ about 40% of my hp left, being the 1st thing i did when i hit 85 (obviously not litteraly) i had been camping for 1.5 hours then decided to download npcscan & when i got back from doing that he was right there haha, tamed on the bottom right part of abandoned reef (where i think he spawns) yesterday at about 1:56 p.m. gamefreak - Silver Hand...funny right after i got this guy i went to check on karoma & when i got there the wolf wass in the 1st spot i checked what a lucky day

Poor little guy looked so lonely haunting a dead reef all by himself that I couldn't just leave him there!

Tamed at 11:30 on Cenarion Circle. He knocked me down to 42% health at Item Level 395 before my Tame Beast was up.

He haunts the Abandoned Reef directly behind L'Ghorek. He vanishes and reappears like all the spirit beasts do. I took my target macro and spammed it while criss-crossing my seahorse along the reef.

Tamed on Sargeras-US on 6/11/2012 at 10:59pm server time.

Started with 94k health, slapped on Deterrence, took me 2 seconds to find my Tame Beast ability, then by the time GC was tamed, I was at half health.

Any idea what the spawn timer is on this guy? I finally tamed Ban'thalos this morning right before the server shut down and I've been camping for Ghostcrawler ever since they came back up. So far, not a sign of him. He's the last spirit beast I need to complete my collection.

UPDATE: Just tamed this guy on Borean Tundra; he spawned at 3:15pm server time. I had been camping for quite a while so the NPC alarm made me jump when it went off. When I first found him, I aggroed him, then hit 'Deterrence', then hit 'Tame'. But something didn't go right. The tame wasn't working and Deterrence had faded and he was killing me, so I backed up until it said I was no longer in combat. But he was gone. I flew around for a few minutes, but he was nowhere to be found. I was starting to think maybe he had despawned after the tame failed, so I logged out, reset my cache and logged back in. After flying around again for a few minutes, NPC Scan went off again, thank God! This time I said to heck with the aggro and just hit 'Tame'. When he got within melee range, I hit 'Deterrence', then 'Tame' again (because Deterrence cancels the Tame). This time I got him. Started with 138k health and had 46k left when the tame was complete.

Just tamed at noon on Moon Guard. I was about to go take a nap when NPCscan went off and gave me a mini heart attack.

I had just tamed Deth'tilac and I figured something similar may or may not work on Ghostcrawler. I set down an ice trap and pulled with concussive. Don't bother. It doesn't slow him down, and he's got a ranged attack (which I believe is the nerfbat).

The first time I went to get him, he phased and I started patrolling again. Within 30 seconds, refound him. It seems as if he continues the patrol, whether he is stealthed or not, so if you lose him, walk around the path following the overlay and he should unstealth soon.

I'm a really squishy hunter with 116k, and he brought me down to about 60k by the end of it. Didn't use deterrance, since by the time he got in melee, he was already half tamed.Try to be as far back as tame beast will allow. That helps a ton.

Good luck getting this guy! Seriously one of the easiest rare tames I've ever gotten.

I tamed Ghostcrawler on my Hunter on the 1st July 2012 at 32,71 at the Abandoned Reef, around 12:17 pm (mid day).

He is a yellow marked mob and goes invisible for about 10 seconds every time he disappears. He also keeps moving about when he is invisible.

Umm wowhead writes that there is that nerfbat spell.... is it usable for him onl when he is not a pet? And there are other things.. it is not level 85, only 80, has not million HP, only 210 k, and hits not thousands, only 500 800 while tame... and he didnt use nerfbat on me when i was taming him, so 4 things which are not the same as wowhead says. Why? Cataclsm, wowfreakz server, please answer me! It's very annoying that this pet doesnt give as much as it should, as wowhead and some comments say. Magarvagyok, thx for answer.

Just tamed him at 18, 77 on Hydraxis at 02:25 server time. Popped Deterrence then Tame Beast and had him no problem. Only have 109k hp.

Hope this helps all hunters there looking for this pet.

Was coming back from a fail try to kill King Varian,and as Sw is very near from Vash'jir, i thought,why not give a try? After more or less 5 minutes looking for,mounted in my Abyssal Seahorse (450% swim speed mount,you get from a quest in there) i found and tamed him at 24.1, 74.4 1 hour and a half after daily reset in Goldrinn server.

PS: Managed to finish the tame with 4 stacks of Nerfbat, and at half of hp,using full Cataclysmic (403 pvp gear) stuff. And no,once you tame him,he'll forget the nerfbat =(

Just tamed him on Moonglade (about 2:45pm/14:45 paris time).

I used the following rotation:
1. target Ghostcralwer
2. Scatter Shot (to get aggro, not tameable if you don't have aggro)
3. Deterremce (i didn't use it though, had in on cooldown...)
4. Potion of speed
5. Tame Beast

Dind't have much health left, about 10 - 15%, but that was enough.

One more thing; don't forget to switch to Beast Mastery talent spec and
check if you have enough space for another pet ;)
I had to abandon one.. :(

After waiting 12 hours on the Abandoned Reef, doing endless circles and thinking he was never gonna appear I finally just hung around for a while on the western edge. Was just checking my email when NPC-Scan went off and he appeared right in front of me. Was an easy tame and he's finally mine!

Just be patient. He seems to be on a long respawn timer.

Tamed at 12:00am at the western edge of his route on Darkspear.

I nabbed him today around the very top north west. I'm not sure how many times I missed him. I did about 3 laps, and was about to cal it quit and did a fourth, and sure enough he set npcscan off. After targeting him and getting in front of him, he phased out. He then came back a little further down his path route.

So to any people who think he might now be spawned, be aware he does seem to have phasing issues.

My first day searching for Ghostcrawler lasted approximately 30 mins and I, of course, saw nothing. The next morning (today 8/20/2012) I got on early just to scout the area. I was literally about to hearth when I decided to check the far corner again. I almost didn't see him at first. He's tiny, just like a crab. On the map he was located at appox 13.25, 86.0. I saw a little blue glow and dove in. I targeted, dismounted, and hit tame. He hit me with a pretty hard hit at first, but after that taming was a cinch.

Searched for Ghostcrawler for several hours on Illidan-US. I did see him spawn at 22,51 at 10:41P.M. server time. I cleared my cache for NPC scan and it did go off when he spawned. With 137k health I didn't bother with anything other than Tame Beast, and did not dip lower than about 60% health if that.

I just got him on bleeding hollow. 11:15pm on 8/24/12. He spawns at 22,51 I had already made my pass and he spawned under neath me. Cast tame beast, he took me to about 50% and got him. No one else around. He was a serious pain in the ass to get and keep in mind. He is a real small crab. He's not big and he doesn't stand out like some of these other fools say
