We're gonna end up murdering Odyn in a future Raid, aren't we?
I know it's unrelated, but I'd like to see them add one or more quests in a future patch that tell us the jailer's story, with more cutscenes than gameplay, and allow us through them to learn a bit more about the thoughts that led to it. to "betray" his people. The truth was not explained why he was prohibited from what he did, it was only said.I feel that SL did not develop the "villain" and it would be a gesture of improvement if it is at least done now. I know it's a late expansion, but I'm one of those who in many stories sympathizes more with the villain than with the hero and I would like to have the opportunity to know if I share Zoval's vision or not.
Can we Kill and Loot Odyn Already?
Everyone complaining about postmodernism and Steve Danuser and his 'hack writing team' conveniently forgetting that the 'gods' whose shoulders they are standing on were reinterpreting WOW's lore and the motivations of its characters long before Steve arrived, especially in Legion: Sargeras creating the Burning Legion to fight the Old Gods, Illidan doing everything crazy in Burning Crusade to fight the Legion, the Light being oppressive and controlling, and the fact that almost everything in Chronicles (Metzen's baby) made out that "it was the Old Gods all along!".
FFSI dont care what messed up stories we will get in the future, but pls stop ruining the lore already written.
Humans, Gnomes and Dwarves are all touched by the void via the Curse of Flesh. These heroes are saving the world yet are literally a byproduct of the Old Gods' influence on the planet. So, we already knew that not all void stuff was bad. Just like the Scarlets showed us that not all Light worshippers are good. It's almost as if we shouldn't view the world morally in broad strokes of circumstance of birth and heritage. Not all Orcs are evil. Not all Orcs are strong, some can be wimpy librarians that can't hold up their pants because they're too slender. These stories make sense and add a lot of depth to the lore. Can't wait to see what was actually covered up. My guess is that we'll find some form of Duergar dwarves that are associated with the void. And that this will help pave the way to a light vs void conflict later.
I think this has more to do with Odyn's ego rather than Titans being evil."Bastions of purity and good, the titans are unable to conceive of evil or wickedness in any form." Changing this goes against everything they are entirely. But with all the retcons going on all over the place, I wouldn't be surprised. So we'll see.
Frankly, this seems perfectly in line with Odyn's behaviour so far. Far to convinced of his own greatness, lacking proper consideration for the consequences and quite a bit of a jerk for no real reason.
"However, unchecked order is, by definition, control. Odyn is demonstrating what can happen when the cosmological force of Order is not properly kept in balance by the other cosmological forces. In contrast, the same edict illustrates that there's reason to believe the Void may not be as irrideemably evil as we thought. There have been hints that a war is brewing between the Cosmological forces for some time, with each one believing they should have ultimate control over the universe. However, the Cosmological chart itself seems to suggest that there should be a balance between the forces - with each keeping the other one in check."really can't wait to have more of the cosmological forces/alignments out in the open/exposed to the player character towards the end of DF. this specific bit of write up has me thinking: but what OF the First Ones? are they just lounging around in their pocket haven in the universe just watching all of this play out? watching Odyn and his unchecked, over-extending Order? could be interesting if they were still somewhere just keeping an eye out but letting us try to resolve the complication ourselves. maybe they're rooting for us to kick Odyn's a$$ all along! xD
LOL. These comments are gold. I have never seen so many people misunderstand basic lore.Odyn has always been a bag of *!@#s and probably not even representing what the "actual titans" would want. If you asked Tyr's opinion on this, I have a feeling it would be quite different. But I'm guessing that Tyr was gone by that point.
Funnily enough I think one of Overwatch 2's new hero interactions is a good comparison to Odyn's feelings about painting the Black Empire as all bad: Mercy: "I'd rather wait a century for progress than cause the harm you have." Moira: "What a joy it must be to feel entitled to patience."Two opposing sides of the same coin. Chaos and Order. The question becomes whether the results outweigh the costs. Prolonged suffering leading to eventual relief for the sake of morality/ethics or making "necessary" sacrifices at the cost of morality/ethics to gain relief sooner. We've seen what Azeroth would be like if controlled by the Old Gods in Ny'alotha. We haven't seen the flip side of what Azeroth would look like if controlled by the Titans. Likely, a sterile, robotic series of filing cabinets and laboratories. The mix of Order and Chaos has created what we have now. People don't like spiders but without them we would have a helluva lot more bugs around. A necessary evil, so to speak. The Old Gods created their "Gift of Flesh" thus granting the Titan's constructs true autonomy. Odyn sees it as a "Curse of Flesh" since he does not consider the benefits outside of it corrupting the constructs and giving them the ability to choose. Odyn's comments about controlling the Aspects and the mortal races of Azeroth shows he only cares to have servants or tools, and those servants/tools having the choice to disobey commands bothers him. However, the solutions a free-thinking servant could provide to issues potentially brings more aid than an automaton could. A necessary evil.If the mortal races were to, say, believe the Titans were Gods then they could be controlled like constructs while having the ability to think outside the box. Devotion is a powerful thing. Programming only goes so far.
