People whining about this, don't seem to understand what subtlety and nuance are. Don't like the lore right now, go play WOTLK then, where there's an easy "bAd vs gOoD" lore, with an evil lich king, with an evil sword, evil minions, and an evil citadel.
Every villain is the hero of the story from their perspective.Same can also be applied to Humans. But of course, being as arrogant as human beings are, they will never truly understand the meaning of this.
I'm glad they've not dropped this ongoing plotline! Odyn has always come across as a manipulative dictator and I'm interested to see if we can finally end his bull#$%^. It also seems like we can guess the rest of the first ones zereth names. Zereth MortisZereth OrdusZereth Lux(es)?Zereth Vita(e)?Zereth UmbraZereth ChaoticusApologies for any mistakes there, I haven't practiced my latin in 25+ years
It's funny, how some complain about "mustache-twirly writing" and not enough subtlety in the way Blizzard presents the lore ingame while others don't want all that "morally grey" nuanced stuff and want things to be even more simplistic "good vs. evil".Shows nicely that Blizzard won't be able to write a single line in game with which everyone is happy. Also shows nicely that people have different tastes and very much varying ability - or, rather, willingness? - to think about more complex issues while playing a game.I personally like things more "grey" and am bored to tears by simplistic good vs. evil tales. Doesn't mean the storytelling in WoW is always high quality, it often is not. But I like it that they try to do a bit more beyond "your benevolent gods are dead. the end." and "Horde evil baddies - Alliance good golden Light!"
I TOO HAVE PROVEN MY WORTH ODYN!Oh wait, this is a different topic isnt it?
Just Odyn doing Odyn things. No surprise here.
Perplexed why the writing team insists on trying to make the game's factions into a dull, morally grey sludge. We are constantly told that things are nuanced, that the Void isn't all bad and the Light or the Titans aren't all good, but they haven't done the work to explain decades of lore telling us otherwise. It feels so good going back to Wrath and just having the Light be "holy" again. You still have nuance with factions like the Scarlet Onslaught abusing it, but Light magic has its own meaningful flavor. Priests and paladins are unique instead of just being "light mages" or whatever Blizzard envisions them as now. I'm not even sure they know. Is the Light Order? Is the Void Chaos? Because you already told us that was Arcane and Fel respectively in Chronicle.Oh, excuse me. The Titans must have been wrong about that too. "Definitive lore book" my ass.
Ngl I don't like the idea of being forced to kill gods worshiped by my characters, and I fear that they are slowly building up to exactly this, "Light bad", then "Order bad" then "Elune bad". But if we get to side with them like Horde could with Sylvanas, I'll be relieved since I could always side with each deity on specific toons that worship em IC.
But we already knew that Odyn was a terrible character beforehand, just look at Helya and yet she's still the villain and he still not punished for his repeated offenses.
Would be nice to have all books stored in something like a tab or somewhat. Like toys, u know. This way all read/collected books would not take space in inventory and you could go back to them anytime, anywhere.
One thing worth noting, which makes Odyn's third edict seem rather wise: The first time a mortal (Sylvanas) learned of the First Ones and their system for the Shadowlands, reality was nearly unmade because she disagreed with it.
I think one of the best parts is that the subtext on the item "Edicts of the Prime Designate, Volume 742" just reads "An ancient tome that smells of burning hair."
