I agree that the news feature was due for an update! Currently it is difficult to find each piece of current news.I will also have to agree with others that the site font is fine just the way it is, I don't see the need for any change regarding that aspect. While the new layout looks superb, I rather enjoyed the search-engine-like simplicity of the front page. I have always been one for minimalist design and the title/bulleted-list summary of events was right up my ally. It would be nice to somehow keep each section collapsed until the user chooses to expand one; that, or if there was some way to make the front page customizable for each user, where they could choose the widgets they personally use/want to see most.My main issue is that, when I visit a website, I like to see everything in a summarized, compact fashion, where you don't need to scroll around for the specific section you want to browse. Even if it was something like an Iframe where you could click each section header and have it display the contents in that area for you, instead of overloading you with information at the start.Like others have stated, I really like being able to open the site and immediately begin typing in the search box. The database is what I use most on the site. After I've found what I'm looking for, or if I'm bored, then I start browsing the site for updates.Just my silly 2 copper. - Eido <3
I like the new font :) and I think it also looks really good on the item browser.I have a suggestion:Add a border to the top announcement (Children's Week event in the screenshot), it's not quite intuitive to see that the X button on the right side will close the announcement/notification. On my monitor atleast, it's close to impossible to notice that there's a different shade of gray used for the background of the said announcement. A different color for the text of this announcement (or the background) could be very useful to make it easier to notice it.
Looking good, can't wait to see it pushed to live!
I really don't care for the new page layout at all. I enjoy the design used now: A simple, uncluttered greeting, that emphasizes the the main function of the site, the search bar. It's not busy, it's not an eye sore, it's just there, it's simple, and it works (more often than not). With a full page covered in news feeds and links, you're taking away from the focus on the searching aspect of the database, reducing it to a small block in the corner. Instead of urging the user to search for the information they want, you're cramming everything down their throats. When these changes go into effect, Light save me, I'm changing my default webpage to something less aggressive.Edit: For registered users, I would love the option to keep the dear-to-my-heart classic search function page to greet me when I visit the site to, well, search.
First thing that strikes me when looking at the preview image is how big the fonts are; I can imagine this will take a lot of scrolling on a mobile device or tablet.
I only come here for the database, no offense but I don't give a damn about the news. Squishing the search bar into the corner is just horrible since it's the focal point of the site. I liked the simple homepage, it wasn't a bloated mess full of 200 hundred other things I didn't need like it is now.For the love of god, make the homepage simple for those of us who don't need all that.
Well I like this new one! Its even better and easier to read than the updated preview was. I can actually read the tweets and info in the blue and light grey font. It looks good, I come here for news and info I miss on Blizzards Facebook pages and those tweets I never see daily. Some may not like it, but having to pop down a scroll menu, that was kind of a mess to begin with, and trying to find what you were looking for became a chore. Also the Blue tracker with the tweets is very nice, its all right there!► One thing I noticed though was that when I click the news articles author, in this case the main story at the moment "Introducing Wowhead's Design Revamp" is written by Perculia. I like to view the WoWheads editors pages to see where and what they've posted in their Topics and Replies tabs on their pages. When I click her name, "posted 2 hr 53 min ago by Perculia", it just goes to the home page and not her page. Same with all the other stories from oliviadgrace. They are clickable but go nowhere. To clarify I am talking about, Its highlighted in the orange boxes: http://i.imgur.com/zUjek4i.png
This new layout is great, I like it!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5bbu6NPRvU
In my opinion the previous design was better...much better:)
New design sucks. Bring back the simple front page.
