It's worth noting that a number of the books can only be found in Alliance capitals, whereas none of the books are exclusive to Horde cities.

Hopefully Blizzard will fix this before release...

You perhaps underestimate the diligence with which guerrilla librarians will pursue these books. After installing the Bookworm addon, I snuck into each Alliance city on my main to obtain copies of the unique books there.

The said Addon, Bookworm can be found here. Indeed, if you read the books you come across in your adventures, you get to learn a lot of lore and information which enhances the fun if you are into it.

Since most books can be found at more than one place this achievement has less traveling than you might expect. Visit Scarlet Monastry (Library wing) and Scholomance and you'll already find 1/2 of the books.

Rogues and Druids: Reading a book doesn't break your stealth, so you can stealth run these instances.

This achievement isn't as hard as it looks, i was bored enough to do this on PTR (build 8982). Well, i've made list where you should go to get all of them in pretty short time, this would go like this (for Alliance ofcourse):
Darnassus -> Stormwind -> Westfall -> Booty Bay -> Barrens -> Gadgetzan -> -> Ironforge -> Scholomance
I was taking notes for this order, but alternative order would be: Gadgetzan -> Barrens -> Booty Bay -> Westfall -> Stormwind -> Ironforge -> Scholomance -> Darnassus
Westfall and Gadgetzan got one book each but but those are unique :/ You will also need to clear Scholo a bit after Rattlegore. spam inc

I couldn't find "Kil’jaden and the Shadow Pact" in the Stormwind library but I picked it up in Scholomance. It's in the back-right corner of the room before the room before the viewing room.

This achievement sucks to obtain as Horde. There are a couple books that can only be read in the Stormwind library, which means attempting to get by level 80 elite Stormwind Royal Guards. Not to mention the Stormwind corpse run for Horde is one of the longest in the entire game.

For all those trying to find the books in Stormwind, the Stormwind map is changed in the 3.0.2 patch, thus the coordinates are off. I will clarify that the is found in The Park's inn (37, 72), the one in the dwarven district is found in the inn. Whereas the others are found in both the battlemasters' room and the library. Just wanted to clarify, because I personally was having an issue with the given coords.

Not to steal anyone's thunder, hopefully, but this is my Horde guide to getting this achievement done as painlessly as possible. We don't have either the wonderful resources that are the Hall of Explorers or Stormwind Library, which the Alliance have, so we have to rely primarily on the Scarlet Monastery and Scholomance. I've managed to track down replicates to the point where the only Alliance town we have to enter is Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands. So no, thank god, we don't have to corpse hop past King Varian Wrynn.

I've tried to order this guide by ease of flow from zone to zone, and by selecting areas with the largest amounts of "clusters" of books. In addition I will not post coordinates, but simply the link to books, as the comments on most wowhead pages typically have both coords and fantastic descriptions of the exact location of the books.

Let's start out at...

Silvermoon City

Take the portal to UC, then head to SM

I made this list while doing the trick or treat quests, as a lot of the books were near the inns I was visiting anyway. The only extra place you need to visit is Scholo. Alliance only sorry. =(

Thelsamar, Loch Modan

I know there are a lot of posts about where to find these, but after filtering through most of them, I was able to make a little more sense of it for myself, and eliminate a lot of travel time. I did this as alliance, so obviously horde will be a little different, and I chose to use cities over instances wherever possible (the only instance I used was Scholomance) and I didn't include any doubles on the list. Kil'Jaeden and the Shadow Pact is also in the Scarlet Raven (Darkshire Inn).
Exile of the High Elves is on the balcony of the General Goods store in Ratchet.
And copying from its own comments thread: This book can also be found in Darnassus at 56, 4. Ground level, to the immediate left as you enter the building sitting on top of a small table.

Hopefully that should save people a few headaches.

The few that are in Alliance towns or in Scholo, best things you can do is take off all your gear that has durability(or all of it if you want), and run in to get them .. If you die, you die .. For the Scholo books, it just means a short run back inside and try again if you failed, or go after the other books.

The coordinates for all of the Stormwind books are wrong, since the addition of Stormwind Harbour.

There are five books located in the Stormwind library:
At 76.1, 32.0 you will find Aftermath of the Second War, The Guardians of Tirisfal and The Alliance of Lordaeron. At 75.3, 29.9 is The Kaldorei and the Well of Eternity. And at 76.3,29.1 is Beyond the Dark Portal.

Excellent guide! Just one note to add: The Battle of Grim Batol can be found at the Bael'Dun Digsite in Mulgore, and The Kaldorei and the Well of Eternity at the inn in Caverns of Time. These two were the only books that your guide listed in Alliance-only cities or inns, so I thought it was important to add this information. A number of those above are unnecessarily hard, because there's copies of the books in far easier places. So I made a new list - for Alliance players only (sorry).

Rather than listing all locations for each book, I've worked out the quickest and easiest way to get them all with minimum travelling and hassle. It's also as easy as possible for lower level players (only a couple of books at Doan's room in SM library, and a couple right at the entrance of Scholo).

There is no reason to go all the way to Wetlands or Stormwind for the books

The Kaldorei and the Well of Eternity can be found in Caverns of Time. Instead of flying down on the dragon, just ride down until you pass a door directly in the cliff on your right hand where the NPC Alexston Chrome <Tavern of Time> is standing. Go inside and there is the book.

The Battle of Grim Batol can be found in Bael'Dun Digsite in Mulgore (see map with location). Here you can also find the books Ironforge - the Awakening of the Dwarves and War of the Three Hammers.

It looks like The Invasion of Draenor, The Lich King Triumphant, and The Seven Kingdoms are only found exclusively in Scholomance and Stratholme (only for the latter two). However since The Invasion of Draenor only appears in Scholo, it might be quicker to simply read all three in that dungeon. Unless these three books appear in other places that I'm unaware of, it appears that both Alliance and Horde have to visit a dungeon to complete the achievement.

if your doing this feat as alliance first visit the library of stormwind, the hall of the explorers in ironforge and the house of the sea wolf in stranglethornvale, this should be a good start

other places with loads of different books are sholomance and stratholme library

quite a few inns have a book or two lying around, so just check when you pass through

Found Icecrown and Frozen Throne upstairs in the Inn in Goldshire so you don't need to go to the Scarlett Monestary to get that one.

I suspect that even the ones that have been previously stated as only found in Scholomance (and ones "only" found in other instances) can be found other places. Any time you go into an inn just cruise upstairs and if you see a book that is laying flat by itself on a table, chances are that it is a copy of something. I also have noticed that some of the books aren't in the places that some of the previous posters found them and instead they are in a place where a book was supposed to be found but it was a different one than the one that the poster stated should be there.

This achievement is all that I hate of the system. A system where clearing Ragefire Chasm and clearing Sunwell yield the same amount of points....Definently one of the most tedious of them all and reserved only for the true nuts, along with the Loremaster's. I believe there should be a title involved. Somewhere along the lines of: bookworm or smartypants.

"Rise of the Horde" can also be found on the ground floor of the tower in Northwatch Hold in the barrens as "Lethargy of the Horde". So while this is a good guide, it's kinda pointless to go to Stonard for the one book when you'll be running past it t get upstairs for another book.
Also, "War of the Spider" can be found in the Scarlet Monastery Library with all of the other books listed.

"The Dark Portal and the Fall of Stormwind" can also be found in Stonard if you're going there for books Main floor on the table infront of the Succubus minion.

It would be nice if completing this achievement gave you a title like "The Scholar" or something of that nature. It takes some work to travel and find all the books, (especially the ones in instances) it would be nice if you had a reward for your effort, besides brushing up on your warcraft lore and being able to say you did it. Plus it would be neat =)

May I add that Scarlet Monastery (Library) is an excellent place for brushing up on your reading. There are 13 books (that I counted at least), the second biggest concentration of books after Scholo (Scholo has 15). The instance is easily soloable by any class at lvl 70, probably even lower.

If anyone is still wondering after going through the 116 comments above me. The best place to start this one is in the Scarlet Monastery - Library wing. There was at least 10 - 15 different books scattered throughout, either on tables, chairs, floor, etc...

I don't know if it's random as to which books appear, or if there is a set table that the library pulls from, and all of the books listed on said table are available.

I would say to go and do that first, and then see which books you still need to get and use one of the handy guides here.

All you need is time, a mage (for ports), and the Scholo key. I would recommend starting in your major cities because there is a crap ton of books there. Then I'd say get the books from Scholo (don't forget the Scholo only book, "The Invasion of Draenor"). Then go do Scarlet Monastery. After that just get the ones you missed, which shouldn't be a lot.

This is a helpful post, but it is very inaccurate. For example, most of the books that say "Only found within Scholomance" can be found in 3 or 4 other places. I had a much easier time looking up each book here in Wowhead, than following this list.

The guides above are excellent, and saved me a huge amount of time. I'd like to add one thing.

A geared 80 can speed things up a lot by hitting the 'clusters' of books first, even if they are in old world dungeons.

As an Alliance character, I ran through Scholo and SM, getting about half of them. I then visited SW, IF, and BB, and had only a few stragglers left, in Duskwood, Evelyn Forest, Westfall, and Darnassus.

Doing the list in this order saves a lot of transit time.

I made a spreadsheet with the locations of all the books. I sorted that list by zone.
In game I traveled starting at zone 1 and in the spreadsheet I marked the books found.
The spreadsheet had the following columns:

What one can do to for a route to collect all the books (Horde Version):

1: Go get all the scholomance books knocking off a considerable amount
2. Use the picture posted below to go through SM: Library knocking another huge amount off
3. Go to UC fly to Tarren Mill and pick up a book there
4. Fly to arathi highlands pick up "Rise of Blood Elves" and ride down to wetlands and pick the two books up there at Menethil Harbor (Both are in the Inn, with the mailbox on the top floor)
5. Ride south into Loch modan and pick up "The Last Guardian Book" AND "Last Guardian"
6. Ride a ways south to Kargath and fly to Swamp of Sarrows for "Rise of the Horde" and "Dark Portal" books
7. Then fly to Booty bay and pick up "Sunwell Fall of Quelthas" from the Inn (and The Dark portal book if needed), head to the lowest level of Booty bay where two buildings are narrowly separated and go into the right one which has "Wrath of soulflyer" and 2 others you may have missed in Scholo / Library. Also "The sentinels" book is in booty bay (click above for location).
8. Take the boat to Ratchet and pick up a "Mount Hyjal" in the Inn (And if you still need it "Sargaras and the betrayal), also make sure to go to the building north of the flight bath for "Charge of Dragonflights". Then ride down to the Northwatch hold for another mentioned above at 61.54
9. Go to Camp Taurajo and fly to Gadgetzan pick up 2/3 books there
10.Ride down to Uldum at the south of Tanaris and pick up Ironforge book
11. Hearth and go to silvermoon city to pick up "The Betrayer to finish off the quest line

For those of you who thought they were done with this Achievement, only to discover, you didn't get it.. On my screen the achievement list of books, gets cut off after 'The New Horde'. You can try all you want to scroll up and down to see the remainder but no luck. HOWEVER, if you 'Track' the Achievement, you can bring up the missing books! was missing 2 books! Hope this helps

Well, this guide is a good start, but it could use a little work. I give credit to Roa33 for giving a good route for horde players. I took the liberty to change a couple things and just added some more details (like the names of the books and their links):
1) Go to Silvermoon City for The Betrayer Ascendant and The Alliance of Lordaeron
2) Take the portal to UC and run out to Scholomance. There are 16 books in Scholomance. Make sure you get them all. Beffe posted THIS PICTURE showing 15 of them. The 16th one is Exile of the High Elves which is south of numbers 7 and 8 on that map.
3) Go to Scarlet Monastery next. There are 13 books in Scarlet Monastery. Make sure you get all of these too. Beffe also posted THIS PICTURE for those books.
4) After you finish up in Scarlet Monastery, hearth and head back to Undercity. Fly to Tarren Mill and pick up The Alliance of Lordaeron
5) Fly to Arathi Highlands and run down in to the Wetlands. Pick up The Battle of Grim Batol and The Kaldorei and the Well of Eternity at Menthil Harbor.
6) Ride to Loch Modan and pick up The Last Guardian and Ironforge - the Awakening of the Dwarves
7) Ride to Kargath and then fly to the Swamp of Sorrows (or just port there if you're mage) and pick up The New Horde and Rise of the Horde in Stonard.
8) Fly to Booty Bay and pick up the following: Sunwell - The Fall of Quel'Thalas, Wrath of Soulflayer, The Sentinels and the Long Vigil, Empries' Fall, and The Twin Empires,
9) Go to Ratchet and pick up Mount Hyjal and Illidan's Gift and Charge of the Dragonflights.

Roa33 I liked your guide, but when I followed it, I ended up missing out on a couple books because you just said "pick up 2 books here, pick up a few books here." Hopefully this amended guide will keep others from making the mistakes I did.

After doing this achievement following Peldin's guide, I was still missing The Guardians of Tirisfal. This book can be found in the Horde Inn in Dalaran, or in Stormwind for Alliance.
