Captain Oathmyt is the host of the Hallowfall Fishing Derby, so she will only be available on Saturdays while the event is active for 24 hours.
/way #2215 44.22 61.59 Captain OathmytShe's a trainer for Khaz Algar Fishing, the Mereldar Derby Mark vendor, and gives the quests for the Hallowfall Fishing Derby that will reward 25x Mereldar Derby Mark when turned in.

Every Saturday, Captain Oathmyt offers players one of these five quests that will reward 25x Mereldar Derby Mark for completing and turning it in that day:

This means, for the completion of a quest you should focus on getting the three required ones by fishing in the zones & pools mentioned in the following table or your Fishing Journal (when the character caught one of them before), but it's not urgent to turn in the quest, you have the full Saturday to do that.

Tied to the Hallowfall Fishing Derby event, we have the The Derby Dash achievement with the Kah, Legend of the Deep reward... something you can use the remaining time of your Derby Dasher on when you got all the required Trophy Fish for your Fishing Derby quest.
Basically, you travel around and try to catch every fish once and turn in your Derby Quest (at least once) while the buff is active.
While most catches are straight forward, Awoken Coelacanth not only needs a very high Fishing skill, but also some preparation. Please read the comments there, it would only bloat this one more and they did a good job explaining it.
There's no guarantee that they will never change that, but right now, activities for this achievement don't have to happen in a single attempt on the same day. The progress will not reset, so you can continue with some missing fish on another Saturday.

One of the major reasons to do the Fishing Derby is to acquire the special Mereldar Derby Mark currency that is required to purchase items from Captain Oathmyt.

One week before Early Access, we finally saw a reward for the Fishing Derby quests, your character will now get 25x Mereldar Derby Mark. The quest will be shared to all character of your Warband, so you can only get this once per week.
For every unique fish caught with the Derby Dasher buff active, you will also receive 1x Mereldar Derby Mark, so up to 20 per week.
While the actual currency Mereldar Derby Mark can only be acquired on Saturdays, Careless Dasher's Treasure can be fished in Khaz Algar waters all the time and then be turned into the currency. But don't use them immediately, keep in mind that you can put them into your Warband bank to use them on characters without the currency to unlock the currency transfer (e.g. for recipe purchases).

Fishing Derby quests are shared between characters of your Warband, but that is not happening for Derby Dasher. This buff will only be applied to the first character accepting the quest. This is pointless because it is mandatory to get credit for Trophy Fish, loot currency on unique catches, and progress on the achievement.
During Beta and on the second weekend on Retail, some characters never got the Derby Dasher buff, which excluded them from the event. This seems to be fixed by now.
Originally, abandoning the Fishing Derby quest revealed a probably unintended way to use an army of alts to get more of the currency or ignore the 60-minute timer for the achievement. With the Derby Marks for unique catches being character-specific, you could accept the quest on one character, go for as many unique fishes to collect up to 20 Derby Marks. Then you abandonded the quest, switched to your next character, rinse, and repeat. This has been fixed, only your first character accepting the quest will get the buff!

Don't waste your time fishing on open water to complete the weekly quest. Go straight to the specific pools of each type of fish. For this:

Glimmerpool (for Bismuth Bitterling) pools at Isle of Dorn and The Ringing Deeps
Royal ripple pool (for Regal Dottyback) pools at Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet
Stargazer swarm pool (for Whispering Stargazer) - pools at Isle of Dorn,The Ringing Deeps and Hallowfall

It actually only require to get one fish of each type.

Dropping the Quest and Re-taking it does NOT refresh the buff. You can however change to a different character and do it on them instead. It does not require Khaz Algor fishing (I forgot to train on the character). 1-2 Casts per pool. Thanks for the pool info above!

So if the buff ends after Saturday you can't turn the quest in until the next week apparently.

The NPC disappears. You keep the completed quest.

Update: At least there are different quests, so you can turn in the previous week and still do the current week's, assuming it's not the same quest as the previous week.

Update: If you disconnect with Derby Dasher, the debuff automatically disappears on your character when you reconnect. You will not be able to fish anything else with any character until next week.

I cannot find a trophy spiked sea raven. I've been at this for 3 hrs, gotten well over 100 skillpoints in fishing. Got the first 3 within 15 mins, the last one doesnt exist. Must be bugged or ULTRA RARE. I will never do this pos daily again.

It is now 4:54 am.
Been able to find all the fish EXCEPT trophy spiked sea raven

Blizzard : FOUR hours of non-stop fishing without completing the quest.
Something is seriously wrong on your quest design.

Made an account just for this, and I've had many urges previously to throw a rant.

If you were like me, you went through the comments and decided to find a fishing pool with the specific fish according to your quest. DO NOT DO THIS. I went through my entire buff not finding one single pool that was dedicated to my quest and I searched every possible spot like a starved hawk.

What you should do, which I realized far too late, is to fish in a pool that contains multiple fishes, for example Glimmerpool & Calm surfacing Ripple. Make sure your fish can be caught in these, I personaly fished up the entire ocean minus the ones I actually needed.

What im saying is some fishes are REALLY RARE and the chances of you finding the 3 pools with the specific fish of your quest is abysmal. You are better off finding a unversial pool.

Hey! Just go fishing in random pools, any will work. I got mine from Anglerseeker Torrent and considering the other mentioned by others, it's clear that the fish can be caught in any pool anywhere.
I would recommend going to the shore so you can easly find pools. Got mine in 15 minutes

I completed this quest earlier this morning and now, about 6 hours later, it is available again for the same character. I can pick it up, but don't get the Derby Dasher buff, so it's not possible to do the quest (fished up one of the required fish to make sure and it didn't register).

This is likely a bug that will be fixed but noting here to save people time if they find they can get the quest a 2nd time - if you don't get the buff, just abandon and move on with your life!

Ok so after some tears, trial, and error this is what I found out:

1) if your D/C or log out accidently with the trophy buff you can get it back and finish the quest. The timer will continue so be mindful of that.
2) I caught 2/3 of the fish from glimerpools and calm surface pools in Dorn ( Bloody perch and Spiked sea raven)
3) I caught 1/3 from the pool specific ( roaring Angler one in Hallowfall along the ocean)
4) plan to take the entire time of the buff. I completed it with <2 minutes to spare, my friend completed it with 20 seconds left.

Good luck. I suggest using your Anglers fishing raft (get your pandarian fishing to access) as some of the pools were further out and it was what saved me when there were mobs along the shorelines.

Just completed this in less than 20 minutes. A couple notes:

1. When you accept the quest you get a 60 minute buff called Derby Dasher.

2. If you log out or disconnect you lose the buff. You can abandon the quest and re-acquire it to get the buff again. You appear to lose any progress, but at least you can go try and complete the quest/get the buff again.

3. Fish from ripple and glimmer pools, they can contain all the trophy fish. I did this strictly in Hallowfall around the coast (around 29, 32). I got all 3 pets from around 5-10 total pools.

4. Even after I turned in the quest for 25 marks, I still was able to collect Mereldar Derby Mark while I retained the Derby Dasher buff. I'm not sure if they're a random drop from pools or what, but I collected around 40 total from the event (and many of them post-quest turn-in).

EDIT. For a little clarification. The disconnect portion seems to behaving oddly for some people. I was on my Monk, accepted the quest, disconnected, logged back in, lost the buff. Logged out, logged on my Priest, abandoned the quest then re-accepted it and got the buff (completed the quest). When I returned to my Monk, he had the buff again (but the quest had already been completed on my Priest) with 40 minutes left.

If you complete the quest before the daily reset, you will see the quest pop up again after the reset, but you won't get the buff.

There is also the The Derby Dash achievement that goes with this event.

Got all 3 fish at Khaz Algar fishing level 1. Ripple pools are definitely the way to go; I got all of my fish within 3 casts at each pool.

For me what worked was:

Trophy Bloody Perch from a ripple pool in Hallowfall
Trophy Roaring Anglerseeker from a ripple pool in Ringing Deeps
Trophy Spiked Sea Raven from a ripple pool on the coast in Isle of Dorn

Last week I got all 3 fish in any pool within 10 mins, pretty much inline with what comments here said.

However it took me 40 mins to find an Arathor Hammerfish and 55 mins to find the Queen's Lurefish this week. I was once again fishing in every pool I found but had no luck. As soon as I went to a Blood in the Water and Royal Ripple respectively I found them. I did also use a Regal Dottyback in the Royal Ripple.

Either I was extremely unlucky or you do require the specific pools for each fish, perhaps bear it in mind if you're not having any luck with certain fish in generic pools.

In general, you only get ONE CHANCE at this quest per week per account and you have an exact 1 hour time window to complete this quest. Disbanding or and picking it back up or logging over to an alt does not work. The quest has a 1 hour time indicator and you get a buff called Derby Dasher.

For each unique fish out of the 20 available you catch out of the while this buff is up you gain 1x Mereldar Derby Mark, and if you caught all 20 (in 1 week or spanning over multiple weeks) you get the achievement The Derby Dash and the mount Kah, Legend of the Deep. For completing the quest you gain 25x Mereldar Derby Mark.

For this week (other weeks below):

Bismuth Bitterling - Glimmerpool
Found all of Khaz Algar - Fish in Isle of Dorne

Whispering Stargazer - Stargazer Swarm

All along the coast of Isle of Dorne

Regal Dottyback - Royal Ripple

Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet exclusively

General tips and notes:

Fully focus on getting Regal Dottyback first, it's difficult to find Royal Ripple and the Regal Dottyback can only be consistently fished from open waters with a high fishing skill and high perception 375+/500+ (from my experience). You'll probably find the most Royal Ripple in Azj-kahet along the northern rivers and northern lakes. Please if you have caught a Regal Dottyback and the Royal Ripple is still active, leave it for someone else.

Both Bismuth Bitterling and especially Whispering Stargazer are easily found along the coast of Isle of Dorne. There's always a ton of Stargazer Swarm up which guarantees a drop of Whispering Stargazer . Bismuth Bitterling has a high chance to drop from Glimmerpool (you'll probably only need to cast 5-10 times if that).

Nope, impossible. I spent the one hour today farming only blood in water, also removed cursed when happening and i could not fish the arathor hammerfish. I have fishing at 311.

You get nothing but the currency from this quest. It is quite pointless to try and fly around to get the specific fish to finish it. Just fish from every pool and you'll get way more currency than the little ***** will give you.

i fished the 3 quest fishes and spend the rest of the hour trying to get the achivement, times runs out, i go to the npc and she does not give me the option to turn the quest,

anyone knows what to do?

Upon accepting the quest you receive the Derby Dash Buff.
You can ONLY get the trophy fish credit while having the Derby Dash buff, even if you still have the quest.
You can only get the Derby Dash buff once per character, per week.
The quest itself it marked as daily, not weekly, so if you complete it Saturday and grab it again Sunday, you can't complete as you don't get the Derby Dash buff again for that week.

I hope this clears up some confusion for people.

You do not need any fishing skill to catch these fish, despite the impression from the comments. I got every fish within 15 minutes from the first pool of each type. My fishing skill was level 1 and finished at 20. Good luck.

Todays (14. September 2024) Hallowfall Fishing Derby requires you to fish "Dilly-Dally Dace", "Dornish Pike" and "Azj-Kahet Slum Shark". All 3 can be found in Hallowfall pools. The first 2 in Glimmering Pool's and the Kahet Slum Shark in Blood in the Water Pool's. Dont get confused by the Name Azj-Kahet Slum shark. Its the normal Kahet Slum Shark and you dont have to fish it in Azj-Kahet.

PS: While you fly around in Hallowfall you might wanna fish up every "Royal Ripple" and "Whispers of the Deep" pool you come across. They are kinda rare.

Today got all my fish done in 15 mins. Early morning

Still had the buff and disconnected. Logged back and still had the buff, I need 1 more fish for the mount. Ran down the hour looking for the Festering pool, no dice.
Went to go turn in my quest, I don't have the option anymore.
I was able to turn it in last week. :(

I believe that the disconnecting clears your "trophy" fish thus forgetting you caught them all. Fix this &*!@ blizzard.

Just FYI, for today's one (14th Sept, Dilly Dally Dace, Dornish Pike and Azj-Kahet Slum Shark), the Dilly Dally Dace and Dornish Pike also can be fished up from the calm surface ripple pools.

I didn't get any of them from the Glimmering pools.

I accidentally sold the fish in the AH before turning in the quest. You can get the quest again, but without the one hour buff the fish won't count anymore, so my 25 Mereldar Derby Marks are rip.

Once you've caught the required fish, there is no rush to return to the NPC; you can turn in the quest after the 1-hour buff has expired. This means you can maximise farming Derby Marks until the very end of the buff.

If you accept the questHallowfall Fishing Derby you're SUPPOSED recieve the buff Derby Dasher. HOWEVER I DID NOT.

I went ahead and fished anyway, thinking it might be a bug or maybe Blizzard removed the buff in a patch. But after fishing for an entire hour, I didn’t catch a single trophy fish. The first time I did the quest, I found all the fish within five minutes. On the second attempt, I got nothing for the entire hour (this was when I didn’t receive the buff).

For those struggling to catch the fish, make sure you actually have the buff. It should be granted after accepting the quest, but sometimes, like in my case, it doesn’t appear most likely due to a bug.

Abandoning and re-accepting the quest, logging out, or using /reload won’t fix the issue, and you won’t receive the buff again.

Apparantly this exact thing happened in the beta and it was "fixed". So it's really not that hard to believe it's happening again.
