I think Blizzard has made a big mistake by not putting more of this in game and leaving it to us to dig and rely on others to post excerpts from novels/novellas to find out what is really going on. It just sucks. I play horde and our story line sucks too. It gets so confusing when neither side has any idea about the other sides motivations, etc. I don't necessarily want to know what the Alliance is going to do beforehand but some explanation in game as to what they did and why would be great; same for their side regarding the Horde. After all, we are in a war and we should be hearing war stories and rumors in Org and Stormwind, not having to go outside game and read about it. Blizz could publish a newspaper or post bulletins in the capital cities with at least some explanation.
I am still hoping for the Alliance cinematic equivalant to the Old Soldier. I expect it to be released the night before Battle of Lordaeron.Unfortunately I think it will be about Anduin and Genn. Dont get me wrong I like Anduin and Genn but feel this cinematic should be about Tyrande and how she handles the aftermath of Teldrassil.
NERDS: I'm tired of being the supreme superhero of my faction, I dont want to be the ultimate leader and super special snowflake champion anymore, why cant i just be a normal explorer. A normal explorer wouldn't know what tyrande is thinking right before she sleeps, a normal explorer wouldn't understand that people have hidden or ulterior motives, a normal explorer would just get a quest, get no info, and just play like normal! Blizzard cant write and needs me to be the superman of the expansion!ALSO NERDS: Why isn't all this lore in the game. Why doesn't everyone stop what they are doing and talk to me exclusively about everything that is happening and why dont i get full length in-game cinematics about literally everything that is happening at all times.
I sign up by every comment that says: "This should be in the game"!Let me be honest here. Why exactly am i supposed to pay even more for major part of story cutted out of the main game? That's some EA type of moneymilking! This is unacceptable to sell addon with a price of solid AAA game, subscribsion and only give players full expirience if they buy this "text DLC"! It's disgusting and show ones again how different Blizzard became in last years.
Can we PLEASE stop talking about this! Drop it and leave it alone!
To some parts this feels like a group project, where at least one person avoids working. On the day of the presentationWriting: "Here I have two several chapters-long shortstories depicting the war of the thorns"PR: "And we made two awesome in-game cinematics."Game-dev: "Oh, was the due-date today? I kind of forgot. How about I just put some world-quests in and repaint them as new."W: "What about content with Tyrande? Did you give her any spotlight?"G: "Tyrande who? I thought it was about the night elves and you talk about a blood elf."P: "At least he can't ruin my cinematics."G: "About that, I kind of promised a big twist of the outcome...."P: "WHAT!"G: "What else could I do, the players consumed the content faster than I could create it and I had to hold them over somehow.Maybe you could put in your other project to quell them a bit?"P: "My old Soldier? I need it for my finals!"G: "You can make a new one anytime."P&W: "...."-After hitting live-G: "Phew, I looks like we all screwed up quite a bit here. Especially you P. That tree-burning cinematic made them all angry. Good that I was there to save it."
Maybe i missed it but where is Shandris Feathermoon ? isnt she General of the Sentinel Army, ?
I'm glad this is the official canon and the War of Thorns in-game is a limited time event, because the depiction of the battles that we play through isn't just incomplete, in some places it actively contradicts the novellas.
I can understand that there's only so much development time Blizzard can justify for an event that is going to last 3 weeks and then be gone forever, but there's definately a lot of details from the novelle that still should of made it into the game. And more importantly, could of made it into the game with minimal increase in development time.Still I'm glad these details are still there in canon, so let's hope Blizzard builds off of them in the future.
i like how elune had no issue smacking saurfang in the face for a bit because he used heroic throw in a way that offended his sense of honor, but let sylvanas murder literal thousands of night elves and a world tree without so much as a quiet 'hey could you maybe not'. real inspiring for my night elf priest. silver lining: i've been waiting for a lore excuse to switch her to shadow.
I think that it would help immensely if the lore in-game and the lore from the novels, comics, short stories, etc. would be more synonymous.
Has there been any explanation of why the Draenei didn't come to the aid of the Night Elfs?
