All I see is softened shadows - a feature that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic had back in 2003. While the shadows do look better with RTX, this is a bit of a "meh" to me. I do hope they implement more full RTX functionality later, as I've seen what a dramatic effect it can have even on very old games such as Quake 2.
As someone who went to school for game art, all I can say is that while this is nice from a technical point, it really doesn't add anything to the experience. WoW isn't a game that prides itself in looking as realistic as possible, and honestly it benefits more when it looks as cartoony as possible vs. the gritty realistic look as in most modern games. Maybe if something was done to the lighting overall that helped enhance the more toy-like or "comic book comes alive" aesthetic of the game, I'd be impressed. But this is really like the whole HD vs. 4K debate; the average Joe Sim Bob isn't going to notice nor give a rat's behind about it.
The true comparison pic of all those posted is the pandaren monk standing in Dalaran. Take a look at how the shadows under each windowsill now stands out and the entire walls are in shadow instead of odd cutouts. Darkness in WoW has always been a struggle and this I think will make a great difference at dawn/dusk times and nighttime lighting.
Neat. I wouldn't say it's after "months of anticipation" though.
yawn
Huh...and here I always thought the crisper shadows were the higher setting. <.<I'm sure that secretly there's something amazing at work here, but I'm not seeing anything that makes me go 'AWESOME!' about the RTX being on. Seems like a silly thing to turn on, if there's any lowered performance from it, but to each their own.

This is just the beginning guys
TIL most wowhead users are legally blind
LMAO HOW DOES IT LOOK WORSE?I swear the art direction for WoW post MoP has been and continues to be awful.
I guess while this seems to add correctly traced shadows, (and maybe that even replaces SSAO entirely?) it seems a bit too blurry to me.Using decent shadow quality with /script SetCVar ("shadowSoft", 1) I think the game's graphics are already more than good enough considering its age and engine.
There's obviously a huge difference. But pictures were taken in a lame place. They should take them where light/shadows are much clearer than Dalaran.
I tested on a RTX 2080 SUPER and it basically makes the shadows worse and drops the fps.Not as far as beautiful as the raytracing reshades ppl on youtube has made
No need of a RTX card, ray tracing was added to the GTX too
They can only apply the raytracing on the Shadow, in wow all the light Is prebaked in to textures for performance, so there Is no real dinamic light in wow, so no raytracing to use
Considering bosses like Fury of N'zoth had the damn tentacles that you can only avoid by looking at its shadow, RTX On would be a detriment in those cases. It looks decent for other cases but in raids, you probably want the actual shadows etc to be seen.
