If you think about it, Sylvanas has never been one to "serve" really. She reluctantly became the Ranger General and it had been expected that Alleria would become it instead. You could say she reluctantly became a banshee (referenced in the video with the "serve" from the Lich King and Arthas). She reluctantly served as Warchief...Now she reluctantly will serve as the scapegoat as the coward Zovaal escapes with Anduin in tow. He just found a less rebellious soul to serve his needs in Anduin. Makes you really wonder about the path of Anduin since serving as "King of Stormwind" in classic WoW... was his path all "set up to this moment" by Zovaal as well? Also makes you wonder about the "path" of every person who lost an ability to decide it for themselves. Two of such people were in the room with a similar "you're not in control of your path" (Jaina and Go'el). Go'el would maybe be a chieftain of his Orcs on Draenor right now if Zovaal had not interfered with the Eredar (who became Draenei later). And Jaina would have lived her entire life as either the ruler of Kul'Tiras (with a living father) and maybe had a different outlook on the Kirin Tor less filled by hatred if certain things hadn't happened.Zovaal had his fingers in many pies. The end of the cinematic shows that underneath it all he's actually a coward...
Quoting wowhead's commentary:"The cinematic starts how one would expect, with the Jailer and Sylvanas victorious."Doesn't this pretty much say it all?We just (when we get this cinematic) beat the bad guys, so the cinematic ends with them being victorious?Doesn't that pretty much show how out of joint this has all become?Compare this with the end of Tomb of Sargeras. Yes, oh crap Argus is in the sky, yes Khadgar asks Illidan "What have you done?" and it's very ominous, but c'mon, guys, we killed Kil'jaeden! He's gone! No more! The Legion is reeling!Yet Blizz was still able to up the stakes in the final patch on Argus: holy crap Sargeras is even bending the Titans to his will. But that doesn't mean that the Tomb of Sargeras victory felt hollow. And this feels completely hollow. Will I be back for 9.2? Maybe. Will I be back for 10.0? Almost certainly. Is this complete BS in the meantime? Yes.
thanos body and optimus prime-transformers armor...looks good not gonna lie...now Sylvanas lets just hope we get a bit more explanation of what happened here.
I think the most important part of this cinematic is that this neither a "death" nor a "redemption" in fact, Sylvanas is weak now. Her fainting after receiving her soul shows that what has occurred was intense and to receive her soul this makes her complete. The biggest detail that is being left out though is if you listen to the soul surge back into her body you can faintly hear the Warcraft III/WoW Banshee death sound. I think this purges her of her powers that were bestowed by the Lich King and the Jailer. For once, another notable NPC's borrowed power has been stripped. Thrall got too powerful so they stripped him of his powers, Sylvanas got too powerful and now she has been stripped. I think the Sylvanas we see now is the Ranger General of Silvermoon and can finally live on her terms similar to Calia. This might very well be the end for Sylvanas in the story. I do not think she will accompany us into 9.2. I think the only one to sympathize for her is Bolvar other than that...Jaina and Thrall will focus on what matters to them and that is stopping the Jailer at all costs and will never forgive Sylvanas for the atrocities that she has committed, despite what has occurred in the Shadowlands, the grand world beyond the SL still knows Sylvanas as a genocidal maniac who deserves punishment. No one in the Horde will allow for her to be reconciled and many folks of the Alliance will want to see her head on a pike. This is the end of her story...and if she does come to 9.2 she will be there and watch us leave as we return. So...this type of ending is neither a redemption nor a death but an inbetween, closure...something she deserved since the bull@#$% she endured from Warcraft III, the torment and now the burden of sins she bears. To those getting nuts over Sylvanas saying she will never serve...She didn't really serve the jailer. She believed in him, she willingly went along with his plans. Anduin is serving the Jailer, forced into it...not willingly. That is why its a trigger for her, she was under the belief she was doing something for the greater good, that the Jailer had great plans to free everyone from the shackles of death but in fact he wanted power and control...something Sylvanas has been against since she was free from the bonds of the Lich King's control.
%^&*!, all you've done is serve.
Oh well I did promise I'd quit WoW if they redeem Sylvanas after willfully committing genocide. FFXIV is not that bad.
Its a pity what Ryan George cant do a "Pitch Meeting" about the Sylvanas story arc, but I can ear his: "Super Easy, Barely an Inconvenience" when to try explain Sylvanas turns against the Jailer throwing a "dart" at him...
Oh no, Sylvanas got bamboozled! Again, what's this, the fifth time? How can anyone see her as a master schemer when she's this easy to fool?At least with Dukat of DS9 fame, he was the only one who thought he was amazing, everyone else, including the writers, acknowledged that it was a case of an unreliable narrator on his part and his action, behaviour, and beliefs in fact made him amazingly incompetent.Dukat competency was a joke to everyone. The only thing that makes Sytlvanas competent is the bias people have for her.
I will have to add though, "Draenor is Free" is still more stupid than this.
It does annoy me how they are trying to compare it to Uther, Uther's part of the soul was saved by the Light. What would save Sylvannas one?
