Yeesh, article was 4 days ago... Gotta step it up, Wowhead!
Are you the same guys that used to hang out in the chat rooms or chat to people on msn? You realise the social interaction online has changed so much since then.. Yes there are many things Blizz can do to try to improve the social aspect of the game but there is a lot more they cannot do. These are different times and your fond memories are from the times of a previous generation, that alone has a lot to do with why you not enjoying the game as much
to all the people who say the game has become less social, have you actually tried talking to people? people dont talk as much in the game because nobody feels the need to start a conversation.
it's weird that this social aspect of the game suddenly got thrust into the spotlight after that mike interview, why is it even being talked about? there is nothing they can do about how bad it's gotten. You can't make people you've accustomed to never speaking or talking to people into the habit of doing so, you can't make enchants trade only again, you can't take away LFG/R, you can't expect people to talk in instanced content when Islands/warfronts/LFR/LFG etc is the baseline expectation of what you should have to do. at this point there is nothing you can do about the division of the community no one wants to talk to anyone except for MAYBE their guild and of course their handful of friends.
I still think we are all talking about different things and using tight wording. People are not less social and wow is an application. What has changed is the requirement to invest in deeply social activities because the application makes these faster and allows this. Wether WoW is deliberately advocating that it encourages poor social interactions is of course debateable and absolutely refutable. But the outcome is the same, deliberate or not. I think all people wanted to do was have their experiences of the differences validated, the harder point is that they draw the conclusion between the two applicaitons and their features and say it is by design directly responsible.I've given up hope it would be seen as a direct connection, and it doesn't really matter. It just was more social for the reasons cited and the current game is antisocial because it encourages lack of effort to be nice because folks can throw away their groups and leave keys on the last boss and get another one with no consequences.
Yeah, well, I see so many people crying for "social interactions". You are like those old men who cry for the old days when they needed to write letters to friends and now they HAVE to use social media. You can still write letters if you want same as you can still talk to people via party chat or local. Hell, you can even send letters if that makes you feel really nostalgic. i actually don't see any point in wanting the game to force you into social interactions if you don't want to. I feel like you want everybody to be as social as you pretend to be while the game just allows everybody, regardless of their social skills, to experience almost all the content. What's stopping you from talking to people, forming parties for quests, and other activities? Why should I play the way YOU want to play the game?Eh? Can't you see that this actually makes WoW better by allowing all kinds of people to play or are you some kind of elitists that want things to be exactly how you want because you feel you are entitled to this? Give me a break.....
Both people and game has evolved, there's nothing against that.Players know more, they are using addons, etc. => less socialGame is easier, more info everywhere about that, guides, discouraging game design => less socialSituation we've made in 15 years ( Players and Developers) Turned WoW from MMORPG to SingleRPG/Co-RPG game imo.Retail is almost in every aspect better than classic (story-telling, variety, content, etc.) but not in one important: Leveling Progression and Meaning of gear in the game. I think its the most powerful reason in Classic (for me) to be social, play with others, playing in guilds, like what's the point of doing harder versions of content when you know the new season will come and effort you put with other ppl will be put to thrash, because Devs go haha itemlvl go everywhere +20. No point doing professions while leveling ( maybe for xmogs and money), game exists mostly on 110-120+, while classic somehow in these time still breath on every lvl.
Blizzard love secrets, and we do. But its always bad, when we get answers on a secrets. For example information that Night Elves are just a trolls that mutate at the magical lake... Its better sometimes to keep mystery as mystery.Hope we also will not going to find out who is the only true good of the world Elune really is. Imagine if she will be just a troll that fell in to magical lake. Or some Old God of the Light. Or some Titan machine...Better leave her as Mystery. Mystery whose voice only chosen ones can hear.
Looks like the link on the image is pointing to a different article (https://www.windowscentral.com/world-warcraft-interview-building-story-shadowlands), not the interview with Ion.
WoW has no requirement to be social anymore. You can be a good player and never talk to a single person, and treat all your dungeon groups like NPCs. It's not wrong to play this way, and I can't understand people who will die mad about this.
Are you seriously debating game isn’t social? What are you guys a bunch of 5 years old that your brain isn’t mature enough to logically think? How tf is blizzard’s fault that you have wowhead/yourube and other similar sites that do answer your every question instead of spamming chat?Game wasnt social back then, people asked how i do this how i do that now people ask the same question but not in chat but where they will get a faster and higher quality response google!Lfg ruined the game? You are free to spam in chat looking for healer for +12 underrot nobody’s stopping you blizzard put you out of your misery and instead of spamming chat and recieving whispers from potentional healers you list your group and potential healers applyGame was more alive back then?Of course it was more ‘alive’ if you need 1 hour to kill 5 boars of course it will look more alive cause you will encounter more people doing it but that doesn’t mean its higher quality its garbage Lore and bs?Nobody cares anymore about lore its not a 2 years old game that we are hyped lore was back then now its being competitive having tons of fantastic raids with mechanics that require brain having challenging mythic plus and no your weekly 15 isn’t challenging the challenge starts once you stars doing keys in the 22 bracketBfa isn’t the best xpac bur sure as hell its better than those xpacs where you had those stupid grinds just to get 1 levelIts not the game its the people that changed like the world around usI play other games as well i have real friends as well i dont wanna waste time talking with you in the game But i will talk with you if you spark my interestIf i pug my 21 key and you apply as dps will you manage to do great overall without missing your assigned tasks like your interupts/cc will you save the day if we have a bolstered mob that 1 shots everyone and tank is dead you to taunt him and run away while we do an engi cr on the tank and you kitting the mob successfully without dieing?Game is social you just have to spark the interest of your desired audience no one cares anymore to talk how epic icc was
The link at "Read the full interview at WIRED" and picture of Ion leads to WindowsCentral's interview with Steve Danuser.
They're really grasping for straws. And like JAB, who he's likely just parroting, seems to have forgotten that when wow released there was a plethroa of social tools. AIM, SKYPE, ICQ, MSN, Ventrillo, Teamspeak....all popular at the time too. From you know. MMOS who -actually- had that issue. Everquest, UO, DAOC....
Well but still, re-mystification has a name: Classic+.CleanLegacyAuthenticSoberSocialIntriguingCrediblePatch-drivenLore-drivenUnpublishedSavor
