Half of the time I try to whisper someone from another server by clicking their name in chat, I get the "player not found" error message. If they are going to merge servers, at least get the bugs worked out of communicating cross realm. When I show up to a m+ and someone says, "crap I forgot flasks" I can't give them a flask. We are surrounded by people you can't trade with or talk to half the time. Don't get me wrong I understand they do this to stop abuse but it enforces a hollow social experience. To have a nice functioning social experience, you have to be in a very rare social guild, or hang out in discord.
The link to the Ian Wired interview actually goes to a Steve Danuser interview.
The mystification part is something i still see in retail, even in BFA. The unmarked quests like the honeyback harvester one or other less intuitive quests like the dagger one (forgot the name) are some of the funniest things I've done. I think the problem is not that this aspect of the game is gone, but that there are so many guides out there, the mystification only exists if you refuse the information and try to do it on your own.
lmao evolved
Would be nice if a news item is actually news and not a column by a random person from wowhead :3
In order to get, you will have to give.I have my "talkative days" and the days when I want to be left alone. With the first type, /1 will get spammed with messages asking people how they are, making jokes and inviting to do content together - and the other is basically killing rares while doing something on the other monitor. Most people when they join a group think that the others wanna get it done fast - We no mind readers. I often write and there is never silence after that, people tell about their day, or their progress or how life is now with the pandemic. In a fast parsed - get everything instant - no patience - little tolerance for new inexperienced people times we have now a lot of people dont even try.Yesterday a little rogue wrote in /1 at 3 am that he needed help to kill a quest-mob. I came to the rescue and even learned how the syncing worked from it. When I see a rare I announce it with my rare-share-addon even if i dont intend on killing it myself. Remember: Treat others like you would like to be treated :)CY out there!
I preserve the mystery of exploring the game by not reading story spoilers ahead of time and just checking guides and stuff when I need to get a general idea of something. Thank you for warning us about spoilers! I want the game to be like a book that I play. I started playing wow when it came out and I was in highschool. Now I am through college and married with 3 kids. I am glad that I can get into content more quickly because I have much less time. I do think it would be fun to hang out with friends more and make friends in the game but I generally just dont have time for it these days. Warcraft will always be my main game. I think every expansion has been awesome (really with they would finish the storylines and other cut content from Wod, thought) because I dont beat it to death by playing multiple hours every day. It is so fun to just wander around and explore the world.
even a "simple" thing like typing "hi" in chat when starting a random dungon/raid can(but not always) do wonders :obut the sad thing is, even a simple "hi" seems to be too much for whatever reason :/

Absolutely agree with Ion. Modern WoW can be hundreds of times more social than vanilla but it also gives you the option to play it solo and having options is great. Wouldn't ever go back to the dark days of vanilla. And Classic is obviously not vanilla
I think this is very much hitting the core of the problem. There was no meta back then. While M+ I think is an awesome addition to the game because I love it that I can still run dungeons that challenge me throughout the expansion with my main and actually sometimes gain something out of it, they also result in a very strict meta growing around those dungeons. Back then you only ran through a dungeon a few times with one character and never touched that place again. There was no time for a meta to develop and there was no need for one either. As a result you had to problemsolve each dungeon and figure out how you're going to get through *!@# with the group you have. Now you know exactly how you get through it all and assume that the rest of your party also does and as long as everyone does, there's literally no need to communicate whatsoever.Remember back in the day when people were creating these cookie-cutter perfect builds? People created this one build that was optimized to hell and back and people just used that. It took the thinking out of the talent tree and people just went online, found the best talent setup and played with that. Over the years that has happened to the rest of the game too. Now you have entire dungeons with players who have optimized gear, optimized builds, optimized rotations who run through optimized paths in the dungeon with optimized group compositions. When everything is optimized like that, you don't need to communicate. As long as everyone is on the same page, you just go in there and people will do their part in the dungeon and you get through it without any kind of talking whatsoever unless something in particular absolutely requires you to communicate. Is the game to blame? Partially absolutely. M+ and MDI just inevitably lead to this striving for perfection that leads to there being a "one true way" of doing everything and as long as everyone follows that there's no need to communicate. But on the other hand the community and the natural life cycle of a game kind of automatically leads to it. The game has been deconstructed to a ridiculous degree and players are basically actively trying to de-mystify the game so no &*!@ the sense of wonder isn't there anymore.
