this is actually terrible news.if people are complaining about the Twitch app... lol you're in for a $%^& storm with the Overwolf one.big ass yikes
Another account to make another thing to download. Ugh.
While I dislike the Twitch app,
Hopefully addon authors will be able to make some money out of this and we will see fewer abandoned addons.
I didn't mind Twitch, and I hate having to switch/download another platform. This just seems inconvenient to me.
Maybe the article was edited with additional detail after first posting... otherwise, why are so many comments whining about the Overwolf overlay when this is a separate curse client-style desktop app using the part of the code in the twitch client... unrelated to the overlay as clearly stated in the article? Same as it works now at first, active development, and without the twitch bloat... Don't see the problem, personally, seems good for someone who just uses the twitch client to update add-ons, since everything not for that is being removed. Randomly seeing my Curse client transform into twitch app overnight was annoying.Re: data privacy, having had their reputation burned before seems like they are likely to handle data better going forward than your typical random unknown company. What did Overwolf do on the data front, anyway? Isn't twitch owned by Amazon? The epitome of big data, no shortage of scandals there.
....am I the only one that updates my add-ons manually then!
No reason to keep twitch client then. Will be removing it immediately after the change happens.
Interesting. Goodbye Twitch.
How will this work exactly, do I have to do a clean reinstall of all addons or will it carry over?
yes finally bye twitch ur program suxed so much ram and i only used it for addon anyway rest was just crap i didnt need
just look for alternatives, there's a bunch of them, a list of addon managersI've been using wowa for quite some time and it's really comfy
I guess I am back to manual update :/
overwolf is gonna be way worse though. lol
