Glad to see Convoke made it past SL (though it might be subject to change). I really hope Divine Toll will too.
That was the only thing I liked from the annoucement. But I TRULLY liked this.
I'm only sold on this if this system gets expanded on over time so that our characters continue to grow. And no, I don't mean like they've been doing, where they'll replace one or two talents at the end of each expansion with one of the more popular borrowed powers from that expansion. I mean actually adding more options so that characters can continue to grow from one expansion to the next. They've been on a treadmill since Legion and I finally got off of it at the end of BfA.
Yeah, in the end I'm just tired of all power increases being temporary and ultimately level-locked. Most characters had their weakest talent replaced with an artifact ability at the end of Legion. Same thing happened at the end of BfA with one or two azerite abilities being worked into the SL talent choices. While in theory this means that our characters are still overall growing stronger, I'd much rather have these things be in addition to the options that already existed rather than replacements for some of them. So yeah, I think BfA and SL should have introduced all new talent rows in addition to the existing ones. Would've felt a lot better because it means our characters actually get to keep something when they move on to the next expansion. This sense that Blizzard cared more about ensuring everything from an expansion stays locked to that expansion is the main reason I finally 'got off the treadmill' and didn't even buy SL. Didn't see a point in reacquiring all of the stuff I already have as a level 50 character in BfA.
Actually excited about talent profiles/loadouts
Return of the worthless spending of talent points to gain 1% in something woo...
This looks great - can't wait to see how it turns out.
YES! TAKE MAAAAAA MONAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEYYY
Surprised no one's mentioned it before now, but we all know what's really going to happen. With more combinations and customization Rextroy is going to have one heck of a field day finding ways to break the game!Either way my wish was granted in a hybrid of old talent trees and current trees being implemented. Also looks like bartender has officially been incorporated into the game. Woot!
A switch to MoP style of talents was explained easily: everyone knew the optimal build and ignore all other talents. How come this system won't be the same 2/5/40, 31/12/6, etc. The same as with current soulbinds: you select the only one best tree and forget about it until the end of the expac.
Wider Talent tree, and split between utility and role may help push choices to be made but nothing is going to be fixed without big choices being a choice. -Talent trees were thin with small changes and builds you just grabbed from calculators. -the Current Talent system tried to make significant changes but they were too scared to make them too build defining and if they were it was usually not a choice. Clearly the problem here isnt small or big changes but its willingness to do it, and minutes plus cooldowns are not the way to do it. Its a lot of work since they got to work on 50 talent trees (one for class and spec) An example of what i want to see more is like enhancement shaman where talents (along with the legendry choice) could make you more lava focused or lightning depending on you choices. Skills and passives that change up how your rotation may work, a focus on AoE, Burst, Single Target, DoTs, HoTs, etc can exist inside specialization and talent trees if they are willing to just not be scared to make impactful choices that feel like im really mixing my class up in some way
I like the overall idea, and especially love that they want to enable hybrid builds again! Currently we only have the Elemental-Healer-Shaman (with Chains of Devastation leggo) as the only hybrid class that's sorta viable (i did up to +24s with it in S2), but even that has major problems like not having access to a magic dispel and a low amount of ST healing. I would very much love to see more hybrid classes being actually viable!Unfortunately, I don't really see how this system would enable a lot of hybrid builds. You still have to choose a specialization, and your points in there are for "performing your role". So if you choose Elemental, you won't be able to spec into Restoration spells and passives at all. So for example, the magic dispel problem won't be fixed, as the magic dispel would be found on the Restoration tree, so you'd never have access to it as a dps. (We already see this is the case in the screenshots with druids - "Remove Corruption" in the class tree, and "Nature's Cure" in the resto spec tree) While obviously not all offhealer-dps specs should have access to a magic dispel, i think it would be fair to gain access to it if you spec far enough into the healing tree.Being able to unlock some basic spells in the Class Tree will not make you able to sufficiently perform 2 roles at once. And I also e.g. don't think you will be able to play a hybrid "Fire-Frost-Mage" with it. You might get some utiliy Fire spells like Dragon's Breath, but in your spec tree you will enhance and unlock your Frost spells that you will use to deal damage. While a "Fire-Frost-Mage" would probably never be viable in the highest levels of play, it allows people to live out their fantasies and play wonky builds, which are still probably good enough for the level that most people play at.My suggestion is: Keep the class tree as it is so players can select their utility as they want! But then let players pick 2 spec trees: one primary and one secondary spec. Their primary spec will determine their role for the purpose of mechanics etc, and they will have to put at least ~55% of their spec points in their primary tree. But they could put the rest of the points in the secondary tree, if they want to, enabling all kinds of hybrid builds, but giving up power in their primary spec!An alternative idea is to look at the League of Legends rune system, and let all players take certain choice abilities from a secondary spec, skipping row orders.
is that convoke in talent tree for druids?
So will this new system merge classes so that you're not 1 spec over the other. Given the option would be there but you can hybridize instead? For example, my mage can given enough points be arcane, fire and frost all in one just like Jaina and Khadgar? If this is the way then classes will be more fun to play. Instead of our characters having multiple personalities ie tank, dps or healer we have more freedom. Then again maybe I misunderstood how the system will work.
Having both played with the Talent tree (Vanilla) and with the Talent layer (Mists of Pandaria) I'm excited to see something as elaborate as this. It'll be very interesting to test.I have little trouble with a concept where each expansion has its own signature ability / talent, that is available when you visit that part of the WOW Retail universe, and alongside that you have a class tree and a specialization tree.Having an option to specifically boost key abilities (Reduced CD. Extra stat boost on buffs. Access to class buffs (Gimme back my GotW, please :P))Given 12 classes with 2-4 specializations each (36 total), it'll be vital that we do some very thorough testing during Alpha, Beta and PTR. Much geek to be had <(^^,)>This looks ... FUN! I'm excited.
