Lots of Wrath, not very much Legion in this post.
I cant wait to see HD version of Dalaran.
I'd like to see an updated Mel Francis area. More mounts plz.
Dalaran also had portals to all major cities (since nerfed to just Orgrimmar/Stormwind), even to Caverns of Time, and was an excellent launching point due to its position near the center of the continent. Like Shattrath before it, and the Shrines after. Unlike Ashran. Before you could fly through the city, players took it as a challenge to fly from Krasus' Landing to the well in front of the bank, since they were the only spots that didn't dismount you. Once you could fly in the city, it was also fun to get up to the top spire and try to jump into the lake a mile below.Players also started mammoth parades, and played with growth items in front of the bank. The sewers also had an exit you could fly into or out of, so you didn't feel so claustrophobic if you were in a hurry. Alternately, you could jump out while an AFKer was riding shotgun. Really, half the appeal was all of the nooks and crannies you could get into, or took it as a challenge to.Flavorwise, Krasus' Landing also made the city feel like it was bustling with constant arrivals and exits.
I still have my hearthstone set to Dal, love hanging out there and still wander through the different buildings, definitely my favorite capital city in the game. Looking forward to the new Dal hope they don't mess it up by too many changes
Dalaran was always my favorite city and I can't wait to see what new attractions and hidden secrets the new one will have! ^^
Hopefully my Runed Ring of the Kirin Tor will be teleporting me to Dalaran 3.0.Nice article :)
For the record, the mage vendor in the sister sorcerous only sell the ancient portal Dalaran tomes under the condition that the mage purchasing said tome has looted the Teleport: ancient Dalaran tome from scarlet monstary library (acquired in the final boss room by killing him and blocking any book burner spell casts during the fight, then looted on a shelf, only mages can loot the teleport tome).Said vendor also sells, in limited supplies, tome of polymorph black cat.
Dalaran is colourful, stylish, eccentric, has lots of detail (even if it is from an older expansion) and it was a nice hub for portals. It's nice just being in that city and having other players around. There's something about Garrisons that just lack atmosphere even at level 3 with all the bells and whistles. The architecture is so boring too (we should have been allowed to choose different styles of architecture - relevant to the faction of course - and have more freedom with the layout).I hope that with the introduction of Legion's Dalaran, I can finally change my hearthstone from the Shrine in Pandaria to the new capital city. Dalaran 2.0's portals should include all the Shrine portals and a portal to Stormshield in Draenor. And as an extension to the portals: It will be fun to be able to take a portal to the Dalaran Crater as well as Northrend's Dalaran. It will be nice to see a busy capital city again. Garrisons feel so isolated even with the occasional Garrison group listed in the finder. And the rotating NPCs and having to join groups to get what you're looking for ends up being very inconvenient. The Garrison was a nice idea initially but ended up feeling like a chore.I do think Dalaran 2.0 should have a pet daily area (like with Lio the Lioness). As for everything else, it will either be irrelevant (Garrison specific stuff like the command table) or it's something that we're used to seeing in cities in older expansions anyway and should be there (AH, bank, profession buildings etc.).
Hopefully we wont get an annoying CITIZENS OF DALARAN RAISE UR EYES TOWARDS THE SKIES :<
Things that we want on the new dalaran?I want a memorial. A memorial dedicated to the countless innocent lives lost in the purge of dalaran. Seriously, that was one really ugly war crime against a group of people that did nothing wrong (Yes yes, some traitors within the group were collaborating with garrosh, that doesn't make the rest of the group guilty of their crimes, specially when nobody else knew)It doesn't have to be anything fancy, something simple to express "we're sorry this ugly action was taken" should suffice. And no, it should not be on the horde-exclusive area of the city. Frankly, I'd replace that statue of Tirion with the memorial if it was up to me, but if that's not an option, it should at least be close by the Violet Citadel Tower.
What would be interesting is if the Higher Learning teleport book works in new!Dalaran. Even if it contains no new content, the book still being valid would be fun.
I remember the first time I went to Dal. I was God awful! I had a craptastic computer at the time and Dal was the place to be. When I finally got in the zone after half a dozen video crashes, my frame rate would be .00000001 FPS even looking at the floor because of all the people there. I didnt get to actually see what Dal looked like till almost a year after Wrath was released! LMAO ahhh the bad ol days!
As someone who never played through Dalaran except as a quick stop to vendor stuff while leveling through NR, I had no idea that ALL of this stuff was there. I knew about the JP vendors, and the mount guy, but I'd never really gone into every single store to see what they all held. I'd literally pop in, vendor my stuff, and fly back to Ulduar or wherever I was going. Thanks for the awesome article!
I want a bigger fountain to fish up coins :D
