I always liked WF/TF but I'm really loving the sound of this. Hope they continue to do more neat stuff like this!
Everyone's defending this system by saying "Oh it can be cleansed."A. We don't know how we're going to be able to cleanse just yet. It's probably a resource sink of some kind, or it's difficult to do, or maybe even it's limited to one piece of gear a week. We don't know yet.B. Based on the datamining, it looks like cleansing it of corruption removes the buff, as well as the debuff. NEW CORRUPTION_CLEANSER_TOOLTIP_TITLECleansing this item will REMOVE the following effects:C. Based on that, what you'd actually want to do is get the Corruption Resistance, which lowers the total corruption but lets you keep the buffs from the individual pieces of gear. The new essences and probably other things give you this resistance. Conclusion.Stop saying to cleanse the gear, because that's likely just a "remove the buff and debuff" option, or is either expensive/difficult to do, otherwise they wouldn't bother putting in a corruption system to begin with. I can't imagine a tank enjoying getting slowed for five seconds, especially during some mythic+ weeks. The system is benthicforging, except this time you get punished for it.
pretty sure wrathions cloak he gives us negates most of the corruption. also all it does is it gives your a interactive mechanic to beat. not a hard one. just a extra one. you want to feel rewarded. there ya go beat something that is hard mechanically. people complain so much...geez.
Yay, let's make an already convoluted system even more convoluted because someone doesn't like how the original convoluted system (and is likely not gonna like the newer even more convoluted system either).
These flat and boring stat increase bonuses are unbelievable. Blizzard seems to be just completely tone deaf when it comes to figuring out how to find interesting paths for gear. They are so worried about changing class game play during the middle of an expansion, that all they can muster up is just having us regrind for the same Azerite gear, for the same end patch rotation, for the nth time. They really need to drop this as a game design philosophy. When I leave after a patch, I don't want to return 2-3 patches later to find out the only meaningful progression I can strive for is stat increases and grinding for new generic abilities that my class should already have in a more core rotation. What I want is more meaningful depth to how core abilities interact with each other. I want abilities to have more interesting and dynamic interactions with each other that can be altered for varying game play styles. Set bonuses were a good way to do this and they often did change how a class ends up playing during that tier slightly, and I really cannot believe they abandoned set bonuses for this, instead of just expanding on sets. The Path of Exile team seem to be masters at doing just that, they design classes to be extremely fluid, allowing for greater diversity in play styles, and ultimately giving the player a pathway to grind for how they want to play the game. At any given point you are able to drastically change the style of your class, and they can still be viable and more fun than what you originally started with. Blizzard is the complete opposite, they design a class, and if it's used by the players in an unintended ways, they will just end up nerfing the style until it fits more align with how they originally designed it. As a Brewmaster, my rotation hasn't changed at all this expansion. Talent trees are basically just utility choices, we can have a statue or we can have ring of peace. We can either use chi burst for AoE, or use eye of the tiger for single target. But this ends up creating an unfortunate situation where at some point due to the scaling nature of abilities, an ability meant for AoE dmg can outscale the damage of a single target passive or they could also end up doing the same amount of single target damage; the only benefit then becomes you have another ability to add to your rotation or it just remains as a passive, either way you are doing the same amount of damage. This wouldn't be such a problem, but they are intent on separating how abilities interact with each other, which ends up leading to a nerf/buff situation on certain abilities until that play style is no longer viable. I thought Azerite gear would be able to diversify game play, but again, all we get is monotonous stat increases, or a random non controllable proc effect. Essences don't even feel like they are part of my class, they are so uninteresting. Crucible of Flame for example is just a random ability that I weave into my already tightly packed rotation. What I wish they would do is just drop their philosophy regarding class design. People have time and time again said that no matter what kind of content they introduce, it just won't live up to its full potential because our core class game play is undeniably dull. I often find myself just swapping and trying out other roles because I can't do anything to change how I play my tank role. Just imagine if these flat stat bonuses on gear were replaced with more interesting ability alterations: "Chi burst ignites your enemies, while active, casting breath of fire disorients targets affected by ignite." or "Chi burst applies a 30% slow, and it's size is increased by 20% while Fortifying Brew is active". A majority of you are probably thinking, "that would be hard to balance," yea that's Blizzard's JOB. They continuously try to make their developers lives easier by negating the need to actually do any meaningful balance work on current content. I'm so sick of it.
Cleansing is most likely going to be a time gated grind fest on top of RNG that might actually be worse than TF. We still have the issue of randomized sockets as well which can be such a huge upgrade to get.Sure some RNG gives you a reason to keep playing, but why can't we just go back to playing a lot because we felt it was fun? Now you can say that people can just do what they think is fun and not care about having to do islands each week to get azerite even if they hate doing it so much, but if you want to stay ahead you have to do a lot of stuff that simply isn't fun to do. One of those things are grinding gear for the chance of getting a good piece which is totally reliant on RNG on top of RNG.This new system doesn't fix any of the previous issues that most people had with TF at all. Instead it further cements the fact that Blizzard have no clue what they are doing with itemization. Honestly it all went south when the Diablo team joined for legion. the loot system works for a game like Diablo, but it doesn't really work that well for an MMO.I think a lot of people enjoy the satisfaction of getting full BiS in a raid tier because they put in the time and effort to get there. This is not something you can archive in retail though since there are so many layers of RNG weaved into the game. On another note I would like to say that I think the concept would be rather interesting had it not been so RNG based and if they had made this without the possibility of reducing your corruption or removing it completely, then I think it could work pretty well as a way to give players an extra challenge that they have to overcome while playing. The better they are the more debuffs they would be able to handle and the bigger the reward as well.
Eh. I don't care overmuch about Titanforging, and I don't think I'll care much about this. It's a bit more interesting than a TF flat stat buff? The benefits of being casual, haha.
Comming in lfg 40 corruption max 😞
And after this expansion all the randomization will be gone, right?
Corrupted items seems like another step to wipe whole PvP content. Does anyone think about it? Having such items is a straight no go to do arena/battleground. I can't imagine competing against other players while getting procs from corruption. In my honest opinion this is a massive disadvantage unless it doesn't work on PvP or we get really good PvP gear instead (which is less likely to happen).I don't understand why do people complain about titanforging so much. I agree it's strong-rng depended system, but please don't complain you are forced grind anything you don't want to. You want better, possibly titanforged, gear? Then you spam m10+ and Mythic raid. You want azerite essences which will compose greatly with your playstyle? Then you grind for that. You still feel that you need to get everything, min-max your char, be a the top? Then, sorry, but you have to sacrifice a lot of time to do that. This is what determine a line between hardcore players (even professionals) and more casual players. The game is designed fine at this point. If you don't have much time to spent on the game then just accept not everything is designed towards you, because it might be to other players.Personally, I don't mind titanforging. It can be at the times frustrating, but it is kinda good feel that I can still get better gear for example on ilvl440. This is why was it brought up.
I like this, it sounds fun and having a negative effect means that you will be most likely fine with few or perhaps even only 1 corrupted item as more would cause more harm than good in the end, reducing the importance of it. And as it can be cleansed, you can still keep the original item if it's an upgrade but you have too much corruption. People will have to think about it, if it's worth it or not. It's not a braindead system like titanforging when you was just waiting for that juicy ilvl proc with socket for every slot.I'm just curious what that means for warforging and tertiary stats / sockets. Does this replace only titanforging? So item can still roll +5 or +10 ilvl, but instead of getting +15 ilvl, it will roll corruption? And will this be on top of +10 ilvl or instead of it? And how about tertiary stats and sockets? Can items still roll those? Can they be combined with corruption? Still a lot of questions...
I just want this expansion to end.I've lasted longer in WoD than this one and all these "New Mechanics" and/or "Loot" do not interest me in any way. This just looks frustrating and it doesn't make me want to farm for anything.Benthic gear was pretty much the only thing they had going for this expansion that actually made it decent.
This is fine for a patch, but please ditch this for the next expansion. Having to worry about another RNG on your gear is insane. Now it can proc an effect, then it can be a list of different effects that are vastly different in strength, then it can proc socket or not. So you have to win 3 lotteries to get your best piece now. It's kind of the same as before, only much more impactful it looks like. Who cares what ilvl it says the piece is?
