I'm surprised wowhead doesn't have it's wow addon client/hosting.
I look forward to this. I hate that the curse client became the twitch client. I loved the convenience of the client but never used it to watch twitch ever. Hopefully things have improved over the years since the last time I used Overwolf.
That sounds horrible.Twitch was not perfect, but at least they weren't trying to monetize mod updates like the curse client of yore was. Looks like we're going hard back into that...
Thank goodness. I hate the twitch client. I'd like to see the original Curse client come back.
Good for them, I guess. At the end of the day, I don't care who manages it, as long as I can still manually download and install my addons. Don't trust those apps one bit.
The Twitch client worked flawlessly for me. Addon management was better than ever before and I'm using the Twitch client to watch streams anyway. My only experience with Overwolf was many years ago and the performance was terrible... very unfortunate news.
Quite a rollercoaster with WoW addons. Anyway, looking forward to uninstalling the Twitch client. Bloated garbage other than downloading mods. Happy with Overwolf so long as 1) it works, 2) it isn't spyware, and 3) the ads aren't intrusive with video or sound.
If you're looking for alternative add-on managers there is also Minion. It's run by MMOUI.com that owns WoWInterface and it's quite easy to use.
Do you Support macOS?No, we only support Windows. :-(
I wonder how much of this is actually true and not twisted to suit one side or another. The more I see of sites bringing news is that its not always unbiased news. Surprised to see the hate towards Twitch, I assumed it was a loved app of sorts - guess not afterall. Won't effect me, I see ads when i download mods, alot of ads so if overwolf is true about not having them be intrusive - that's a win for me. Although if its anything like raider.io certainly isn't going to feel good going to download them as you have to wait for it to play before you can even use the website.
Overwolf is awful tho. They sell your data and make your computer slower.
I won't be installing Overwolf for this. I'd rather manually handle my add'ons.
I don't see anything in that article that says they "sold" it. The language used was "entered into an agreement with Twitch to assume leadership of the CurseForge community and products". I take that as Twitch still "owns" it but Overwolf is taking control from a leadership POV.
I'm not a huge fan of Twitch, but it's been working alright for me atleast.I will definitly not be using this Overwolf crap. This Minion modmanager mentioned above might be worth looking in to. It's either that or going back to the old ways of manually updating....
I didn't care much for the Twitch client, it was just something that ran in the background of my computer, but I do now it was hella practical to install and keep my add ons updated without checking every week or so. Hopefully something else replaces that.
Welp.. this sucks. I didn't like the TwitchApp either.. but Overwolf is worse, has memory leaks, and eats up all kinds of resources on your PC. Good luck using overwolf platform folks, i'm going back to the old school way of installing addons now.Bad move Twitch.
Can they just not keep passing the buck with curse client and mods. It was bad enough dealing with twitch and it's cruddy systems that sometimes didn't work or bug out. Along with having to install another app on my computer that hogs the bandwidth that I have to close the app. Thankfully I don't have to update my addons frequently. Yet seeing the comments so far seems like overwolf is worse and seems like it may cause more problems.than it's worth. Along with having to install a while new app now. I wish blizz would intergeate addons at this point given they know we use them. Like heck they helped the creator of DBM out at one point. So why not make their own platform at this point for addons. Their so useful at this point and mandatory for a lot of guilds and groups that push raid and keys. Seems only natural they would intergrate them more at this point.
Ugh this is not good. I tried overwolf a long time ago and they try to take over your UI and overlay and stuff like that. It was resource heavy also. I didn't like it.
