This is outrageous. The creators now decide themselves what is worth criticizing and what is not? Well, there is one problem with that approach: Why would creator ever agree that his work was bad? Of course creators will want to defend themselves. But it's not up to them to measure quality of their own work. That's so narcissistic that it hurts. They can't just go around and label us as hateful trolls if we say that burning of Teldrassil or murderous psycho Luke are bad plot points. Especially not if we normally and reasonably explain why. They think they can just DECIDE that there is no good or constructive criticism of those plot points. All criticism of those plot points is bad and unjustified. They think that it's bad for the industry to hear this criticism. Presumably the only good option is to leave the franchise. But we have to do it in such a way that we never tell anyone about reasons why we did it, so they can twist it and claim that the falling popularity is just natural decline in interest of this genre. They make it sound sometimes as if in the few cases where some criticism is allowed, it can be stated only once and only by very few people... and then never brought back again, so nobody is bothered by this criticism and nobody sees it again. There are always very good analyses of fictional stories out there. And those are being produced by people who care about those stories deeply. By labeling them toxic, trolls, haters... are they certain that this doesn't earn them with another such negative label for themselves? Isn't that a toxic behavior in itself? Especially if they want to just skip over all the good points that were raised, cherry pick the angry shouters and present them as representatives of all criticism. That's a shady tactic. And now they will call my post the same way. Hateful trolling from a toxic person. And if they wanna circumvent the issue by claiming that it may be not me that is a toxic shouter and that I indeed argue respectfully, but 99% of people don't... then that is still no argument. Because as long as ONE person brings up a ONE good argument, that argument is still valid no matter how many unreasonable people are aiming their questions in the same direction. And as long as they can't provide a reason and evidence for that one argument being wrong, why should I think they are right? And how is it justified for them to call me toxic? This is frankly arrogant and destructive for the quality and health of fictional stories in general... If your intention was to make me feel despair, you succeeded. But I don't feel fictional despair that applies to in-story events. I feel meta-despair from the whole industry's attitude towards me.
Not that I'm trying to be toxic but why do they want constructive criticism for? Massive threads about High Elves were made being constructive and raising 100% valid points... what response did we get? A smug grin telling us that they just need contact lenses and saying they would just be Blood Elves with blue eyes, while Highmountains are just Tauren with Moose Horns. It is possible to make a story about Veressa and Alleria reuniting all the High Elf remnants into a single faction, makes for good storytelling. I need to get over myself, the HE salt in me is real x'D
It's called "Feedback". People who make things for profit and expect people to simply pat them on the back for it are in the wrong line of work. Like it or don't, it is the reality of the world. If you want to create something for your own personal satisfaction, by all means create it in your own reality bubble. But the moment you put it out there for others to consume, (especially if you are taking the hard earned dollars they make for profit) is the moment you open yourself up to feedback. Just because you do not agree with that feedback, does not make it toxic.
Like anything that reaches a critical level of success, wow has become a victim of its own success. What your classic nerd doesn’t get is how many people, how many weeks and months goes into creating something that they dis in a second. People dissing on the last Jedi are exactly the point. If you spent 1 day in a studio, and saw how many competing pressures that writers and creatives are under to make something “perfect’ you will never diss any creative project ever againBecause you haven’t a clue, it all seems so easy
Warcraft, Trek and Star Wars fandoms are really freaking toxic. War of Thorns is not the first time I've observed it.There's constructive feedback, then there's angry nerds with full-on death threats and week-long flame wars. As someone in visual development and character design, this behaviour is really off-putting to people in the industry, as well as players.Do we have to say 'act your age' at this stage? People need to grow up.
1st.. Die hard "Trek fan here. And I loved new ones!2nd. New Star Wars.. Loved Rogue One (I still hate rogue class in pvp tho.. PTSD remains) hated very very much Last Jedi (ep 7 wasn't TOO bad..) BUT HEY! I'm a young-adult white guy. So it's my fault Solo sold bad.....3rd (finally wow!) Well.. the recent story really can make you salty. For example I enjoyed Suramar. It was one of the best moments in WoW for me. Long camaping focus on helping a race(low level stealth play in Suramar was superior to recent Assasins Creed games :D). Fighting for their freedom.. And what did I get from it as a Alliance player? Yep.. I created a new enemy that blindly follows Adolf Windrunner. Yeah.. Super...Tauren yea, okey. Hard to argue as they come back to join up the rest of their race (same as our Light-goats). Void Elves.. yeah I DO understand that Blizz wanted to something special so yeah, ok. But the whole crap that we got "Ughh too few" "ughhh roll a Horde".. It was really not cool so it may pissed few ppl :/And I really don't want to dwell into the whole Ally vs Horde bias. But it looks like Horde players really do get most of the things they want. EPIC Mag'har orcs? Hell yeah! Even better Zandalari Trolls with their whole awesome story and Aztec looks. The art is soooo gooood.. And let's look at the Alliance players. Many ppl asked for Wildhammer dwarves. Just add skins, tatoos.. Done. (Kinda like with Mag'har really) Nope. We get Dark Iron. Okey.. okey we are happy with them too! Not something we asked too much, but yeah. They look great! :) Elves topic.. I don't want to go into it and we all know this story. Sure, we get Kul'Tirans... And here we just have to wait and see how's it gonna work...But yep, Toxicty is bad. And ppl who insult and attack writers. Just please stop.Blizzard plz... High elves? :>Have a good day and sorry for me baddie english :x
I don't have the same respect for Metzen that I once did. Along the way he came to cater and pander to the safest, most politically correct views on, well, pretty much everything that he ever has a view on. I can't even remember the last time he conveyed any sense of individualism or dared to have his own opinion in anything. He always plays it safe now. Always. In everything.
I think people confuses a lot of things... I'm pretty sure that when Metzen talk about harrassement and things like that, he dosen't refer to people just ranting in the forums... There is also real harrasement done through social media and the likes. So yes, people going mental isn't "a lot of people", but if only a hundred, or a thousand, flood your accounts with insults and threats, it still is "a lot". Don't forget that there is what WE see in the forums, and what REALLY is behind. And, truly... Yes, WoW fanbase is really toxic tho' x)
Not gonna lie, it's rather ironic to watch some of the comments on here say the devs are too weak/rich/arrogant to hear any criticism, while simultaneously getting outraged at any mention of toxicity, and the idea that they are the problem.Y'all really rolled a 1 on your self-awareness, huh?Good to hear Metzen's doing good though . Had no idea about the anxiety stuff, so glad that's not as bad now.
Got to love keywords. Toxic, entitled and snowflake.. Add them in and it validates whatever crap you are spouting.
