I have fished most of them in various Shipwreck Pools and the colored pools (Blood in the Water, Festering Rotpool, sometimes Infused Ichor Spill) in Khaz Algar. I didn't like how often they appeared in debris pools, it didn't feel very pleasant when 80%-100% of the catches ended up in these Ghoulfishes when it could have been Algari Anglerthread, Algari Seekerthread, Soaked Journal Entry, Careless Dasher's Treasure, Crusty Darkmoon Card or other useful things instead.

When we catch one of these, we'll get debuffed with Ghoulfish Curse for 5 minutes (refreshes with another Ghoulfish catch). The curse's description is vague, but I don't recall a decrease in Fishing stats, so not sure how bad it exactly is. Fishing in schools usually won't be affected, but fishing in open waters results in getting more junk items even with maxed Khaz Algar Fishing.

The only way to remove that debuff before it expires after 5 minutes is to remove one Ghoulfish from our inventory by throwing it back into fishable (!) water or salvaging 5 into Prepared Ghoulfish with Cooking. The former feels weird since they are a reagent for Cooking and are no longer unique.
Cursed Ghoulfish's Wariness buffs our Perception by 15 when we throw them back into the water.

There's a Cooking Recipe: Ghoulfish Delight (a purchase from Captain Oathmyt for 10x Mereldar Derby Mark, so only available on Saturdays when the Hallowfall Fishing Derby is active) for Ghoulfish Delight that requires the fillet of this fish, and recently they fixed most of the issues with that, so you can now catch infinite Cursed Ghoulfish to salvage them (don't forget to learn Khaz Algar Cooking on all your characters who fish) whenever you want.
You decide to throw them back for +15 Perception for 15 minutes or keep them for a buff food that gives +30 Skill and +30 Perception for 1 hour.

SOLVED! Cursed Ghoulfish is Unique (1) right now, but the standard Fish Salvaging needs a minimum of five to be started.
Cursed Ghoulfish are no longer Unique (5), but they still have a maximum stack size of 5.
SOLVED! Prepared Ghoulfish says unique right now, so whatever they increase the stack size of the cursed fishes to, you can only salvage once, then use it for cooking, rinse & repeat.
SOLVED! I'm not sure that we have a way to salvage Ghoulfishes for Prepared Ghoulfish right now. Cooking only lists one result for salvaging fish and that is Fresh Fillet.
SOLVED! According to the Cooking Journal, Recipe: Ghoulfish Delight is supposed to be a purchase from Captain Oathmyt for 10x Mereldar Derby Mark, so only available on Saturdays when the Hallowfall Fishing Derby is active. But up to Build 55763 this was not on the vendor.
Cursed Ghoulfish are soulbound and can't be destroyed, so salvaging or throwing them back into fishable water is the only way to remove them from our inventory.
Salvaging doesn't recognize Ghoulfishes in your reagent bank right now, so you better keep them in your bank or bags (see the contradiction with the curse?). It will also only recognize full stacks of 5. If you have two stacks of 4, it will return an error that you have insufficient reagents.
Ghoulfish Curse won't be canceled when you put all your Ghoulfishes into the bank/reagent bank, which I wouldn't consider "Inventory".
You can avoid the Ghoulfish Curse by sitting when you fish ;-) The spell needs the character to be standing to be applied, which is also happening for other fish buffs.

Imagine if they used the awful curse of this fish to make it necessary to catch a skeletal, or otherwise undead, mount.

If you are trying to farm these for Ghoulfish Delight they drop very often from Blood in the Water in Hallowfall.
No baits etc ( Skill 170).

Once you got the debuff from your first catch they drop quiet frequently from that pools.

Fish one out of a Festering Pool. Dwarf ability Stoneform that, among other things, removes curse does NOT remove this curse.

If like me you couldn't find info on how to turn Cursed Ghoulfish into Prepared Ghoulfish - All you need to do is collect at least 5 then in cooking use Fresh Fillet (learnt very early from the trainer) and instead of zzOld Do Not Use (DNT) you will get Prepared Ghoulfish!

Throwing one of these back into the water will remove your curse and give you +15 perception - the perception buff doesnt stack if you throw more than 1 in! Doesnt make it last any longer either.

I'm fishing around Hallowfall and catch these guys commonly in the blood pools. I don't know if it's a bug but I discovered that this curse doesn't even prevent me from fishing. I can still catch fish perfectly fine. I also fished in other pools with the curse still up and had no issue catching anything.

I'm purely speculating, because I don't have a sample size nearly big enough, but there's a noticeable uptick (could just be observer bias) in catching these while the 'curse' is active. So it very well might just be a mixed blessing. Huge bump in odds to catch Ghoulfish, which means a reduction in your chances to catch anything else. From schools anyway. Doesn't actually seem to have much impact when fishing in open water.

Currently, if I fish this up while sitting, the debuff doesn't get applied and it says I need to be standing to do that.

Filleting the fish does NOT remove the curse.
