Captain Oathmyt is the host of the Hallowfall Fishing Derby, so she will only be available on Saturdays while the event is active for 24 hours.
/way #2215 44.22 61.59 Captain OathmytShe's a trainer for Khaz Algar Fishing, the Mereldar Derby Mark vendor, and gives the quests for the Hallowfall Fishing Derby that will reward 25x Mereldar Derby Mark when turned in.

Every Saturday, Captain Oathmyt offers players one of these five quests that will reward 25x Mereldar Derby Mark for completing and turning it in that day:

This means, for the completion of a quest you should focus on getting the three required ones by fishing in the zones & pools mentioned in the following table or your Fishing Journal (when the character caught one of them before), but it's not urgent to turn in the quest, you have the full Saturday to do that.

Tied to the Hallowfall Fishing Derby event, we have the The Derby Dash achievement with the Kah, Legend of the Deep reward... something you can use the remaining time of your Derby Dasher on when you got all the required Trophy Fish for your Fishing Derby quest.
Basically, you travel around and try to catch every fish once and turn in your Derby Quest (at least once) while the buff is active.
While most catches are straight forward, Awoken Coelacanth not only needs a very high Fishing skill, but also some preparation. Please read the comments there, it would only bloat this one more and they did a good job explaining it.
There's no guarantee that they will never change that, but right now, activities for this achievement don't have to happen in a single attempt on the same day. The progress will not reset, so you can continue with some missing fish on another Saturday.

One of the major reasons to do the Fishing Derby is to acquire the special Mereldar Derby Mark currency that is required to purchase items from Captain Oathmyt.

One week before Early Access, we finally saw a reward for the Fishing Derby quests, your character will now get 25x Mereldar Derby Mark. The quest will be shared to all character of your Warband, so you can only get this once per week.
For every unique fish caught with the Derby Dasher buff active, you will also receive 1x Mereldar Derby Mark, so up to 20 per week.
While the actual currency Mereldar Derby Mark can only be acquired on Saturdays, Careless Dasher's Treasure can be fished in Khaz Algar waters all the time and then be turned into the currency. But don't use them immediately, keep in mind that you can put them into your Warband bank to use them on characters without the currency to unlock the currency transfer (e.g. for recipe purchases).

Fishing Derby quests are shared between characters of your Warband, but that is not happening for Derby Dasher. This buff will only be applied to the first character accepting the quest. This is pointless because it is mandatory to get credit for Trophy Fish, loot currency on unique catches, and progress on the achievement.
During Beta and on the second weekend on Retail, some characters never got the Derby Dasher buff, which excluded them from the event. This seems to be fixed by now.
Originally, abandoning the Fishing Derby quest revealed a probably unintended way to use an army of alts to get more of the currency or ignore the 60-minute timer for the achievement. With the Derby Marks for unique catches being character-specific, you could accept the quest on one character, go for as many unique fishes to collect up to 20 Derby Marks. Then you abandonded the quest, switched to your next character, rinse, and repeat. This has been fixed, only your first character accepting the quest will get the buff!

It seems all the guides are saying that Dilly-Dally Dace are dropping from calm surfacing ripple but this is bugged at the moment (or intended). The only source at the moment for them are Festering Rotpools in Isle of Dorn. Finally got one to drop from my 5th rotpool.

Can confirm that this has been fixed!

(Edit: I was not expecting this to get to the top, for a lot of these fish they have multiple pools that they can spawn in- I did not add them all on here, just where I personally fished up each fish. You can check the fishing guide for each fish to see every pool and location they drop from. Good luck fishing!

(Also I did the achievement with 220 Fishing, I would recommend higher for easier chance with Awoken Coelacanth but it is doable)

Not super recommended to attempt unless you're at or near 200-300 fishing (you could always get super lucky with less) and have other fishing buffs to add skill and perception. The Awoken Coelacanth is recommended around 315-375 skill. (Also requires stacks of 10 Stargazers per 5 minutes of attempts.)
Bismuth Bitterling Dilly-Dally Dace can add skill, Ghoulfish Delight adds skill and perception, Phial of Truesight adds perception, Algari Weaverline adds skill or perception, Enchant Tool - Algari Perception enchant your tool, Whispering Squirmworm bait for 133 Kej at /way #2213 51.7 24.6 Squirmworm

But you might want to get all the bonus currency from catching everything else anyway, you can speed through fishing levels using Soaked Journal Entry which costs 5 of the derby tokens.

With that said, 60 minutes is plenty of time, I was down to my last 1 or 2 fish with more than 20 minutes remaining.
You only have the 1 hour of attempt per week per account, if you log out early you may lose the derby buff.

After doing this on live, the achievment counts the fish down as you're fishing while you have the Derby buff, and when you catch the last fish on the list the achievment pops and the mount is in your collection, don't have to turn in the quest for it to pop.

Any tips for Pale Huskfish? I lost the achievement because I only found 2 Festering Rotpoot in Azj-Kahet and it didn't come. 30 minutes and I didn't find any more pool in Dorn/Hallowfall

For those having trouble with certain fish such as Arathor Hammerfish or Specular Rainbowfish, there are lures you can purchase off the AH or make with Skinning called Arathor Hammerfish Lure and Specular Rainbowfish Lure.

Easily finished this today on my 2nd derby with skill 208 - so no, you don't need to have max skill to get all the fish.

Also I got one Dilly Dally Dace from the riverlake at Dornogal - no pool needed.

Throwing in my two cents here;

I completed this achievement in 45 minutes with 15 minutes left on the buff timer. I was lucky enough to not be DC'd.

I used my DF fishing Rod, with a max DF perception enchant. Nat Pagles Hat, and Booty Bay Boots. No Perception potions or extra buffs. My Khaz fishing is currently at 200 also.

I was able to do this today at 251 fishing before buffs. Ended with 29 minutes to spare.

Specular rainbowfish was the one that took the longest, 8+ glimmerpools.

Caught Awoken Coelacanth in less than 5 minutes.

Buffs used were Ghoulfish perception (15 perception), Whispering Stargazer (10 stack for 5 min Coelcanth fishing), Goldengill Blessing (45 perception), Crystalline Sturgeon/Nibbling Minnow (45 perception), Bismuth Bitterling/Dilly-Dally Dace (10 fishing), Ghoulfish Delight (30 fishing), Nat's Drinking Hat (8 fishing) and the lure from the hat (10 fishing)

My equipment was a 2 star Bismuth Fisherfriend with a Weaverline

I seem to have lost the buff while relogging to a bank alt to send myself some Awoken Coelacanth, so as a warning to other players do not log off your character for the 1hr duration unless you want to end your fishing early.

You can continue working on this achievement for the remaining duration of the buff after turning in the quest. I tested it out since all I needed to get was the Awoken Coelacanth; sure enough, I caught it and got the achievement even after having turned in the quest.

For anyone wondering, the progress is retained between weeks. You can only get progress while you have the buff though. Was four short the previous week (when I didn't knw about the achievement), then I finished it the next week.

Just finished the achievement. It DOES track between weeks, I did not need to fish up every single fish this week as I had already fished some up the previous week. As well, despite what the achievement says you DO NOT need to turn the quest in to trigger the achievement. Immediately after I fished up the Roaring Anglerseeker as my last fish, the achievement popped. If the achievement does not pop for you, you're missing a fish.

It looks like the game lets you pickup the Quest multiple times, however the buff does not get added if you pick it up a second time.

Last week I couldn't turn in the quest in time so it sat in my log up until today, picking up the new quest from this week wouldnt give me the buff. So I abandoned both quests to try and take the new one again since it clearly didnt do anything - got phased and the NPC disappeared....

Don't keep the quest in your log and delete it the day of. You will not be able to get the buff that week.

Also did this yesterday in 1 go with 12 mins left, fishing was around 213 when i started and only used my underlight angler and a nat's hat and sometimes trew some fishes back for the buffs

While your fishing i would suggest looking up all the fishes you need on wowhead, a couple were almost instant with the lure's

If you get disconnected and appear to lose the buff, you may be able to get it back by abandoning and re-accepting the quest. I did so and got the buff back, but it wasn't the full 60 minutes, just the continuation of whatever time I had left on my original buff. I also kept credit for the two trophy fish i had already fished up for the quest. I do not know if this will work if you stay disconnected for longer than the duration of your original buff, but if you're able to immediately get back in you don't have to worry about losing all progress/marks.

Just an incredibly poor design all around. I can list like 20 problems with this event but Ill just point out that if you finish the quest after midnight, the quest giver is just gone. Why? It should be a weekly quest and if I completed it before my buff fell off, why cant I turn it in? It makes absolutely no sense. Whats the point of Beta if you cant figure out these glaring problems?

You DO NOT have to do this all in one week, with one buff. I did mine over the course of three weeks and was instantly awarded the achievement/mount upon catching the last fish I needed.

The Derby Dasher buff that you get when doing the fishing derby persists for the full hour even after you turn in the quest so go and keep fishing. You can earn the 1 Mereldar Derby Mark per unique fish caught until the buff wears off. I even completed The Derby Dash achievement after turning in the quest.

You can start getting progress on the achievement with little to no fishing skill or gear. I caught all but two fish the first week ever doing. The actual fishing skill and gear required doesn't matter except for the RNG on "Awoken Coelacanth." For that single fish, I would ATLEAST raise your fishing to 150. "fished one up with skill 158, 1x Goldengill blessing buff, Ghoulfish Delight food buff, r3 Bismuth Fisherfriend and r5 Weavercloth Fishing Cap. it's possible! c:"

The achievement is shared between alts, therefore you can log onto another one of your characters and pick up the weekly fishing quest and complete.

Did this today and worked, just had the one fish left, for which my alt fished it and got the mount :)

With one minute left on the buff, only 235 skill, no other buffs but Whispers of the Deep I fished up the Awoken Coelacanth and got Kah!

Here is how I've done this in the same day starting from scratch.
it will take some time but it's the only way to do it in a single day starting from zero fishing skill.

Note: I Had zero fishing in all of my characters

first you want to go to Captain Oathmyt in Hallowfall , learn the fishing if you don't have it already, take the quest to earn the buff and start fishing.

your Goal is to get the 3 fishes you need to win the tournament. don't worry about the fishing level for now. once you get the 3 fishes. fly around to the pools fish the ones you need for the achievement. try to get as much as you can in the 1-hour buff, your progress will still be the same if go in on another toon so don't worry

all the 3 fishes you need are in Hallowfall so you don't need to go out. after you get them from their specific pools. you hand in the quest for the tournament and only take Soaked Journal Entry

after that you log out and log in on another toon whether it 70 or 80 it doesn't matter. and you do the same thing again

the reason for this is that the buff lasts only for an hour, so it's impossible to finish it in a day starting from scratch. that's why this method will get it done in a day

THE IMPORTANT PART:

after you do at least 4 or 5 toons, hand in all Soaked Journal Entry to a one character. and don't take the buff yet. fish until your 150 then use the 5 or 4 Soaked Journal Entry you have and start fishing for Awoken Coelacanth in Azj after throwing 10 Stargazer fish. which should be the only one you need. i had 220 fishing skill with only the buffs i got from fishing when i got the mount on my 4th cast.

and that's it, watch something on your second monitor while you at it, it helps :D
