Time spent on update X, takes time away from update Y. They don't have an infinite amount of resources to allocate to everything they need to do. It's a tale as old as time when it comes to development of anything (games, software, etc.).I've been in software development for many years now, and I don't expect the general population to understand this, but at the same time, they did provide a huge update to our character customization a couple of months ago, and the nerd rage there is currently over no additional updates coming soon is still laughable and sad.EDIT: just want to add, this is not the fault of Ion and everyone that works under him and trust the teams working on the game absolutely want to do more and provide more to the users. It's just that budget for new projects, updates, maintenance etc. are approved by the people above them and it goes through a rigorous corporate process that makes it almost impossible to increase spending.
To those mocking this or saying 'They should deal with it', or saying "They should focus on only the part of the game I care about":The thing is, you don't get to say how others derive enjoyment from the game. If Blizzard decided to not add raid content for a patch, for example, I honestly could not care less--but there would be a huge amount of backlash. Imagine how much I would be mocked if I said "Who cares about no more raid tier for a while?" Yet, raiding is of little interest of me in the game. Sure, I dip into it, but other areas are far more interesting to me. When they FINALLY gave attention to something much needed, customization, I had something to look forward to. Then, they came out with it, and many options are completely lackluster. Sure, there's quantity. I'll use blood elves as an example. The jewelry is something I'm using on a total of zero of my characters, I hate it. I was hoping for scars or arcane tattoos, something for brutality/war, not lazy nobility. The eye options appeal to high elf players, but I couldn't care less about them either. They built it up, with their quotes, to say there was more coming--and that they would be taking feedback seriously. So what did many people do? They went to the forums, twitter, reddit, what have you, and made their suggestions. Tons of them. Putting tons of work into explaining what we wanted, for them to say "yes, feedback please" and "it will be an ongoing focus". Why even bother asking for feedback if they're going to do a complete 180?So, yeah. Clearly some here have no concept of 'Others enjoy different parts of the game'. The customization was something I was sincerely looking forward to. The raids/maw stuff was not interesting to me at all, and the new mounts/pets... eh. I'm a collector of both, but those were pretty lackluster to me as well. I was hoping they were actually going to take feedback seriously and possibly add community suggested options in 9.2 and beyond. Practically no one was expecting it in 9.0.5 or 9.1. But to be led on, and then told "Nope, not for the rest of Shadowlands" after customization was emphasized so much and reinforced in the interviews? Yeah. I'm let down. Sorry I don't enjoy the top end raiding or PvP like some people, but it is what it is, and no one gets to decide what people enjoy in this game but themselves. We're allowed to be upset.
I hate this community so much. "OH NO. I cant have a totally useless hairstyle which is hidden under my Helmet 90% of the time.""My Elf eyes cant be blue?Blizzard I need these eyecolors NOW, or I will unsub even though people I played 10 years with couldnt tell which eye color I had all this time"There are so many things worth criticizing but the biggest part of the people think missing hairstyles and the inability to solo Legion raids are the Main issue up to the point where it even gets Featured in the newspage. Go to FF14 if you want to create your super realistic Anime wife Elf, but Jesus let the WoW Team do something useful with their time and not with f****ng cosmetics. There are like 1000 tmog Sets in this game. Use them. They cover your char 99% of the time. And Trust me. No one. Absolutely no one is looking what hair style or eye color your 2/10 NM chars have. No one cares. And you cant even see most of the customs when you play it. So why are you people even care?Because its a RPG? They literally didnt care the last 10 years and they wont in the future.
What's the point of giving your character a new hairstyle when the whole game is broken?Fix systems, loot and broken classes first. Then fix reward structure for endgame content. Then create fun content for upcoming major patches and expansions. If you still have time left add character customization.
At what point will it be enough? If they shift it now, at what rate will players ask for even more? How much more for how much use?Why not have 300 haircuts per faction? Why not 100 types of jewelry? Seems like this a bottomless pit of demands everyone is starting to fill lately.
When is there not backlash from the community? The wow community just a bunch of whiney *!@#$es.
It's perfectly reasonable to request new things. I think hairstyles should be shared between orcs/maghar, humans/kul tirans, etc. I'd like to see troll and Forsaken beards. I'm not asking for the world here. The players who are outraged that this and many dozen more options aren't being considered are being silly, though. If the customization is really that much of a sticking point for you, vote with your wallet and unsub. Blizzard is never going to listen to anyone who whines but keeps throwing them their time and their money.
Customization should be the last thing to focus on right now. Give us more changes like the stuff coming in 9.05, ya know, actual gameplay improvements before we focus on character details that will just be covered up by my armor anyways.
