Would have been voted for Metzen to come back, great imagination and this "taboos" must not stop him from making this game
The first firewall to use when a writer gets criticism, is calling them out as toxic. Second firewall, saying that the story was delimited by someone else.People voice their frustration with a story because they invested 10 years of their life to it.Some Horde players (not all and that's fine too) don't like RP a nazi soldier following orders that end up in Genocide of an entire capital city. OK? These are not toxic people these are Normal people. Finally, I don't believe Sylvanas would do this thing... It's like watching a drama and suddenly a dog speaks, it feels like that to me. It feels fake, but that's me.And I don't want to replay the whole Garrosh scheme again, it's a failure as Horde. I don't want to feel patronized by an alliance Boy.
I can understand anger at how people react to poor quality storytelling/content in games, especially if it burned a hole in their pocket (not to the degree of "I pay $15 a month for subscription, therefore I own you" like we keep hearing every time we have server troubles). Little over two weeks ago, we had an update for the game No Man's Sky, called simply "NEXT". And it was then that I heard the stories about what had happened at launch, two years ago - there were people who actually wrote bomb threats to Hello Games and its chief, Sean Murray, that actually got investigated by Scotland Yard (Hello Games is based in Britain). And for what? Because they didn't put butterflies in the game like they showed in the trailer, among other things. There was a thing posted in regards to the toxicity of the Star Wars fandom, talking about how the fans being asswipes resulted in Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks, probably the most maligned character in Star Wars) considering suicide, Jake Lloyd (prequel Anakin #1) quitting acting because he got bullied at school (and apparently he ended up in jail for reckless driving a couple years ago, and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia), Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose) deleting their social media accounts because of constant abuse, John Boyega (Finn) being used as the reason for boycotting the movies (which basically comes down to racism, pure and simple), et cetera, et cetera. Same thing with Jodie Whittaker being cast as the Thirteenth Doctor. Every Doctor Who post on Facebook featuring her in some form has constant "angry" reactions. Why? Because the new Doctor is a woman, ergo, it's SJW BS.Toxicity (or in this case, outright idiotic insanity) exists. And it's everywhere. Not just saying that to justify it, no. Hell no. But simply dismissing it as a studio/developer tactic to shut down discussion only tells half the story. It's the dimwits who engage in it that end up making that tactic work.
First off, he’s talking about toxic people in the community, not the whole community. Second, saying he should be grateful is like telling an woman that she should be grateful to her abusive husband just because he bought her a car. You are def part of the problem.
Malicious behavior is hardly exclusive to "nerdy" fandoms, and can basically be seen in all aspects of life. People being able to amplify their opinions via widely-accessible forums has made such behavior seem more omnipresent than it actually is. When people start to actually send threats over things not going their way, the people who agree with their grievances tend to get thrown under the bus, as there becomes an association with the criticism in question being directly associated with the threats given. From what I recall, fairly recently, 2 employees working on Guild Wars 2 were fired after one lashed out at a consumer for offering constructive criticism, and the other defended her actions. Shortly thereafter, the former employee would insist on lack of wrongdoing, a narrative multiple game outlets picked up. This is relevant to WoW, and the relationship between fan and creator in general, in that the line between constructive criticism and malice is incredibly blurred in the eyes of both factions. At day's end, malicious behavior is clearly present, but overblown, in the grand scheme of things.
I will complain on every site possible if there is something I really disagree with but I would NEVER contact and harass the writers about it.
Bring back Metzen!
Love it! I love this game. Love the universe and lore. I hate this community. It’s so confusing to me why 10% of the playerbase think they should be writing the game they love to play because they hate it?
Yo, let's pause for a second, because we get wrapped up in the toxicity element. Metzen's not the first creator to complain about fan toxicity and he won't be the last. It's kinda a red herring to what really went on in that interview anyway.
he sure did have some awesome tweets, i have mixed emotions about some of it, as they went in to a subject that well hit me hard as well, I did not like the direction the director of the last jedi, and I do think it does not belong in star wars. But what upset me was the backlash toward the actors in the movie. What i am not liking is the backlash the rest of the good gaming community is getting over some rotten apples in the Mix.
