Psilo, Honestly, until someone has every achievment, on all 20 playable races, reached the gold cap...on every toon, and most importantly....Blizz announces that their will be no new content released...ever, then they have not " done it all". Yes, I know what point you were trying to get across, but its flawed in the fact that even if you have it all on 1 toon, there are still 19 more races to play, and the auction house, and pets and mounts to collect....and more new content is always around the corner. It doesn't mean that players arent getting burned out....they are ( I am ), but WoW is technicaly "unbeatable", if only because of new content releases.
Agreed about Cata not being that great. I finished all the quests in the xpac within a couple weeks on multiple toons, whereas in WotLK I think I finished them maybe one time collectively. The scattered zones and increase in travel time to a lot of areas (TB) was not that great either. MoP is looking like it may disappoint too, but I am always willing to give it a go. Yay for D3 though with already a million confirmed sales and it's not out for months yet. o.O
To be honest, I am not largely surprised by the slowing decline.
Too bad i need to keep playing world of warcraft for 5 or 6 months because i signed to Diablo3 Beta...

Yeah, honestly, Cataclysm doesn't feel any more significant than the last few patches did. Part of it was the fact that the level cap only raised by half as much as usual, and the fact that while BC and WotLK are both very iconic of the game, Cataclysm is really just a dragon destroying stuff. Here's to hoping MoP is better.
And the fact that they're losing subscribers is also probably in part due to the fact that they added in the free to play element, so people who before would have considered buying the game and subscribing, now just think "Why pay for it when I can play for free, even if it is limited?". I've seen tons of level 20 free players with prestigious titles like explorer or the exalted, as well as mounts that I've barely seen any 85's with, or even full heirlooms. It's obvious that they're finding ways to occupy their time without paying for it, and without intending to pay for it until they've squeezed everything they can out of the free version. If Blizzard hadn't added this aspect of it, I'm guessing that about a third of the players who have free accounts now would have ended up just paying for it. So, just for argument's sake, lets say that there are 90k free accounts. Now, they have 90,000 players who aren't paying to play, when they could have had 30,000 new subscribers. Bad move there, Blizz.
i think they really should've left the original vanilla content alone and focused on expanding the higher level stuff. I mean, if the wheel ain't broke...second, i think that Blizzard's big bet on their "social" push with the emphasis on guilds was a horrible decision. the idea of people having to work together more strategically to down content really wasn't a great move. the PUG system in WOTLK was doable because the content wasn't too difficult. but then you start introducing high barriers of entry and you now have problems of defying expectations set by the previous expansions. not everyone is going to be a grade A hardcore raider/PVPer, etc. but if you expect people to team together, you'll have to dumb down content. also, i just didn't care for the continuing "cute" elements that they tried to introduce like the squirrel/rabbit quest, the retarded Joust wanna-be quests, the running around in circles quests, etc. keep the game simple and expand on the content aspects. don't try to re-write a good thing. again, if the wheel ain't broke...
Well, there are always exceptions to the assumptions people make by painting everyone with a broad brush and I'm one of them, apparently. I've been playing since launch, and while I've had to take breaks here and there over the years for one reason or another (got way burnt out raiding BC for instance and now I cannot STAND that xpac or those zones), I've always come back. Cataclysm? LOVED IT. Why?-New races that aren't horribad (sorry, I can't stand space goats).-Revamped starting zones with new quests (LOVE LOVE LOVE the redone Forsaken starting areas! New phasing like in Westfall is awesome, too.)-An overall advance in the world story lines including more depth and character progression for existing faction leaders (Sylvanas, Thrall, Tyrande, etc).-FORSAKEN HUNTERS.-RAID FINDER.-Cata zones are visually breathtaking and have fun themes (my favorite being Uldum).-Warriors are finally in a place where it's not painful to play them for both tanking and questing.-Excellent cinematic cut scenes for certain monumental quests (like when you ride with Sylvanas through Silverpine and she's firing her bow as if it's just simply an extension of her being, killing Worgen invaders left and right).-Quest givers inside the dungeons.-Larger variety of awesome looking beasts for hunters to tame.-A move away from LK instancing which encouraged bad play and made bad players. No more having a paladin drop consecrate and having everyone just AOE through the dungeon. It's more like vanilla now where you need CC and tactics. THANK YOU, BLIZ!I'm sure I've missed something, but that gives you an idea. I've loved Cata. And I'm a vet. And I'm staying, because this is a fun game to me.
here here could not agree more!
