I see we're still keeping to the 'port to org if you wanna AH or beg for a longboi' mentality. Hopefully Engineers at least get a remote AH.
I'm not a big fan of the way all the amenities but the bank are just plopped down on the floor instead of incorporated into the architecture. It makes things look very bare and temporary. Don't even see sleeping quarters in the inn.Exodar was better than this because they had actual buildings set up in the massive structure, with the winding staircases, chandeliers, particle effects, and et cetera breaking up the empty space.
The skybox is gorgeous, no doubt! Overall, I'm quite dissapointed with this. Alpha is alpha, sure, but I doubt they'll change the overall structure of it. It just doesn't really look like a city. It looks like a game hub. Dazar'alor, Boralus and Suramar are examples of how they can build amazing and believable cities. Heck, even Dalaran and Shattrath look better than Oribos. I'd like to see them make it look more city-like, add in beautiful scenery like indoor waterfalls, some fountains etc. They have MUCH more work to do.
As long as it's not Boralus, I'll take it.
Graphics looks great tho a bit empty rooms for now. Looking forward to enter the city once Shadowlands goes live
This place looks great as a Dalaran 2. The only thing that caught me off guard as extra weird was the "Keeper of Worth," because the idea of souls having a bank for material goods is completely buckwild to me. If it was themed as some kind of portal where you could grab some material goods from physical Azeroth, I think I'd like it better. Something about the idea of departed souls having a functional economy where heaps of gold coins still matter just doesn't sit right with me. I've always heard "you can't take it with you" and whatnot about death, y'know? Not that that's a hill I'm gonna die on. I don't think it'll make a big difference if Blizz puts in the dev time to freshen up the themes on their pretend fantasy ghost bank.Circling back to the city itself though- no pun intended- I like a big friendly wheel. Lived in several. Undercity, Shattrath, Dalaran, and so on. The really clean and tall architecture stands out, and I kind of hope there's some huge interesting soul ghosts to stomp around under all that verticality and keep us company, otherwise even populated streets are gonna seem kind of empty. They've created a lot of space, and I just hope to see them make good use of it. Maybe even go Old Ironforge style and put some fun places to wander up in the high places, if you're willing to make the trip.I think what stands out most of all to me though is the gloom. I know this game engine has some trouble with bright-feeling sunlight, we never quite get the blinding white "first time at the docks in Limsa Lominsa (FF14)" noontime glare that I would hope for in the first place, but... Oribos is surrounded by a blue sky. I'd like to see some strong sunshafts coming in through the windows, maybe some long stretches of bright light to liven up these moody stone hallways. And some more of those pretty blue potted plants, too! If the inn can have them, I don't see why they couldn't be dotted all over. Freshen up the place. We're mortals, after all, coming to visit. Mortals like fresh air. These flame-headed soulbots are already interested in being great hosts, from the looks of things, so I'm sure it wouldn't be any trouble for them.I'm getting carried away with my post at this point, but Oribos looks fun! I guess my wishlist just comes down to "brighter and more foliage," which- I get it, neither really screams "you're in the place where dead people hang out." But I'm gonna be hanging out there soon, so I'm thinking about what I want.
What I don't understand is why there are these maps ingame, yet there are no labels anywhere to tell you where the useful things are located. Players have to create them and post them places like Wowhead for people to use.
