The most epic item I have ever recived is by far The Lion Horn of Stormwind. Might not be the best epic item, but sure is the most epic of epics.
I was fishing one late night in Hellfire Peninsula for a fishing daily when all of a sudden I fished up what seemed to be a green colored item (green as in uncommon). I was so surprised at the color that I accidentally hit my keyboard and moved my character slightly, causing the loot window to disappear. This all happened in the matter of split-seconds so I didn't really get a chance to see what item I had gotten. I quickly alt-tabbed and went to Wowhead to check if any green fishing drops existed in Hellfire, but there was nothing. I was angry. What if it was a ultra-rare drop like the One Ring? The next fish I caught was the quest item I needed, the Monstrous Felblood Snapper, but that didn't cheer me up at all. I massacred a few lowbie Horde on the way back to Old Man Barlo, the daily fishing quest giver, and when I opened my Bag of Fishing Treasures, my eyes sparkled as I looted Muckbreath the Baby Crocolisk. Ever since then, my vanity pet has been a good reminder of my misadventure, and whenever I take him out, I can proudly say that WoW is serious business.
One of the most "epic drops" I've gotten has to be the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti at level 20, after a lot of work to get about 50 gold to buy one at that level, I finally had the money and made the decision to buy one. Now I've got quite a bit more change in my pocket and can even make the yetis for others to enjoy.

Probably the most epic drop I ever got was the Vanquished Tentacle of C'thun. Wanted it so badly at 60 and had never killed it before. We went at 70 to get the achievement and it dropped and I won it. Probably the vanity item I had wanted the longest!
Wow...Talk about timing! I was just in a Naxx10 raid, and we've been beating our heads against Sapphiron for a while. Hours. 1 wipe at 15k HP...Another wipe at 3%. It's such a long fight and a pain to wipe when you've got that far. The piece which would be the biggest upgrade dropped and I won! Loot always has a more epic feel to it when you worked harder for it. This was the first fight in WOTLK that seemed to me marginally difficult compared to the rest. It took true work and focus, and I'm glad to have had an epic encounter this early in WOTLK and hope for more to come.
Beating the timer for Caverns of Time - The Culling of Stratholme on heroic. Getting to the extra boss was a great feeling though actually winning the Bronze Drake was just the icing on the cake.
It didn't seem right, here I am, at the top of my game, and my alter-ego, the warlock had nothing... Before I began my adventure I saw an amazing companion, the prettiest thing I've ever seen, a tiny little ball of ooze that made it's owner glow green with it's very presence. I never thought I would ever get it, I wasn't very good at being a hero, or an adventurer, and I cut up Nightbane into a wonderful fire-breathing shield, it was time my alter-ego got some attention. So I asked around, I found out where I could claim such an extraordinary companion. I didn't think it could be done. After hours and hours, covered in ooze and gooze, I never thought I would see it. Days passed, it became an obsession, I wouldn't even aid my allies in reclaiming Karazhan again. I had to see this companion, if not for me, for my other self!Bag after bag, hope after hope, opened and thrown aside, nothing...Then, after I determined the best way to countinue this obsession I found the small thing, hiding deep inside of the bag. I withdrew it, placed it in another bag, and sent it to my alter ego, who recieved it with glee...Now, everytime I see an Ooze, I have to temporarily leave my mind for a 'Bio' as my allies call it, so I can vomit. Never again will I attempt to claim such a rare companion.~*~Now my alter-ego has taken over, and in her efforts has claimed more epic-loots for herself because she's selfish along with tossing the headless horseman off of his mount and claiming it as her own, to fishing up a giant sewer rat...She's selfish- it's okay, I love her anyway. I need some rest anyway.
My most epic moment was when I was in UBRS as a lvl 60 gnome rogue. It was during the Rend fight --- I was the raid leader and had ML on just in case of if the 2 Dal Rend Swords were to drop (since they were a very sought after item). When I looted Rend after our group downed him --- a Purple Felstriker appeared and made me fall out of my chair! There was only 1 rogue in the group besides me and thankfully the other warriors and hunters (everything is a hunter weapon) decided to let us two rogues roll for it. This rogue I remember was named Shadow --- and already had several Nightslayer pieces and I believe the Core Hound Tooth in his possession. Going up against a superior opponent I jumped the gun on getting out the first shot of rolling! So i excitedly did a quick /roll----- Royi rolled a 21 -----As I started tearing up in shame upon the imminent doom of losing out on the chance of my first Epic item. I sat and moped in my chair about how I would never again be this close to an Epic (my guild was only big enough for 5 mans). As I was tearing up -------- Shadow rolled a 9 -----I became soo excited and immediatley my highly geared opponent started screaming on the raid chat. I shakingly moved my mouse over to ML the Felstriker to myself --- double checking to make sure I had it correct --- then triple checking to make sure my double check was correct. I presented myself this godly present and SCREAMED --- FELSTRIKER ! FELSTRIKER ! FELSTRIKER ! FELSTRIKER ! in my guild chat!Even though I have abandoned my Rogue for a druid when BC came out --- Royi on Laughing Skull will forever wield a Felstriker in his offhand, and my tale will forever stand alone with the Gods of Warcraft as a unforgettable moment in Azeroth history.http://www.cuckhead.com/?item=12590
I have to say my most epic piece of loot was when I got my T6 helm on my rogue. It was one of the best nights of my life. After doing countless attempts on Archi and having people never use their feathers to land right.. Blowing up the whole raid and forcing us into turtle mode. And somehow we lived and killed him with the good ole "OH GOD TURTLE MODE GUYS!" chanting on vent. Raid leader nearly making everyone death from his massive screaming fits. I do have to say it was pretty funny listening to him. :3 I never saw my T5 helm. When we killed Vashj it dropped.. and about 10 seconds before the killing blow as landed, my power went out and I never saw it ever again. :( Some shaman got it for his offset. Made me cry pretty hard when I heard about it. Nothing like going from T4-> T6 helm eh? I was one of the first rogues to have the helm too. Had a terrible graphic but it was one of the best pieces I ever got. =)
Farming hours for a damn enchant.
I would say that my epic drop would have to be the pattern for enchant bracer - spellpower. Even though it's a green pattern it still took 8-10 hours of farming to get it to drop. I was farming late at night when it finally dropped. For the first few seconds I had honestly thought I fell asleep. It wasn't until I learned the pattern that it finally clicked I was actually awake. If you're not an enchanter then you wouldn't understand the frustration that came from trying to get that pattern. Glad it finally dropped though.
Easily the most Epic drop I have ever seen was when our party had strived for the mount from Baron Rivendare (spell check me please). We began at about 3:30 p.m. after a long day at high school. We ran, and ran, and ran, and ran untill it was about 8:00 p.m. (yes 4 and a half hours of that god forsaken place). We decided to take a quick break and we resumed at about 8:30 p.m. We continued farming for yet another 5 HOURS ( It is now 1:30 A.M.) and we decided to give it one more shot (Thank god we did). Fought to Baron, engaged, got him down and we paused for a moment just to say one of those quick prayers WoW gamers are so famous for, "Come on god let that mount drop." and BAM! A deathcharger appeared on the screen. Now I am a mature male but I have never screamed so loud in my life, we rolled and I was awarded the most ePiC mount Eva.
