Alongside
their partnership with
Lightforge Games, One More Game, and Raid Base, Mike Morhaime's
Dreamhaven
will also be advising
Frost Giant Studios
, a small new game studio made up of former Blizzard developers intent on revitalizing the real-time strategy genre.
According to VentureBeat
, Dreamhaven will be acting in an advisory capacity, assisting with product development consultation, pre-production feedback, and playtesting.
“We are so fortunate to be able to work with the industry giants at Dreamhaven who were instrumental in creating the RTS legacy that inspired Frost Giant. Mike Morhaime has helped set a benchmark for real-time strategy games that has not been surpassed. He remains engaged with the genre and the community today, and his advice will be incredibly valuable as we work to bring real-time strategy (RTS) games to a broad audience,” commented Tim Morten, Frost Giant Studios CEO.
Not much is known about Frost Giant's future game, as the eight person studio was formed only last year, though it was also revealed that they will be liscencing Unreal Engine 5 from Epic Games, which went in to
early access availability
this week, and looks
fantastic
. Although Frost Giant's team is small, it is made up of Blizzard RTS alumni who felt that the real-time strategy genre still had more to give, set on lowering the barrier to entry for RTS games and empowering user generated content, as well as enhancing co-op, campaign, and competitive gameplay. The team is headed up by
StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void
production director and
Command & Conquer
director of product development Tim Morten serving as production developer and CEO, alongside
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
lead campaign designer and
Wasteland 3
game director Tim Campbell filling the role of game director & president.
“We couldn’t be happier to see Frost Giant putting Unreal Engine 5 through its paces as they build their next-generation RTS,” said David Stelzer, director of business development for Unreal Engine at Epic Games, in an email to GamesBeat. “It’s easy to imagine how UE5’s generational leap in technology and workflows will open up new possibilities for building worlds that are richer and more dynamic than ever before, with limitless possibilities when it comes to gameplay. We’re grateful to have this awesome team along for the journey with us right out of the gate as we launch UE5 in Early Access.”
