First Note
Enter Curiosities and Moore in
达拉然
, Broken Isles. Go up the stairs, and click the
不起眼的纸条
atop the table straight ahead, to the right of a bookshelf.
Second Note
Go to
奥杜尔
in
风暴峭壁
. Kill
烈焰巨兽
and
XT-002拆解者
, and go to the pile of scrap in the northwest corner of XT's room. Click on the Rusty Lever, and input the following pattern by clicking the lights in the center of the room. The green spaces represent lights which are on, that you have clicked ONCE. Click the
Inconspicuous Note
that spawns.
Third Note
Head to
安其拉
, and clear the bosses before
克苏恩
. Before entering C'thun's room, go to the left instead, past the 3 friendly dragonkin NPCs. Go up the stairs along the right side of the room, where there is a table, and click on the Mind Worm atop it. Complete the puzzle that spawns by matching 5 Yogg-Saron brains in a row, and then click the
Inconspicuous Note
that spawns on the table.
Fourth Note
Purchase or craft a
暗纹面罩
. Go to
深岩之洲
, and enter the Crumbling Depths, located at
58.2, 25.5
. Head into the cave, past the circular area, and you will find an interactable fissure behind a block of stone. Once you reach the Dark Fissure, equip the Shadoweave Mask, click on the fissure, and ask to be dropped down below. Click on the Strange Skull that is on the seat of the chair, and then click the
Inconspicuous Note
that spawns in front of it.
Fifth Note
Go to the dungeon
诺莫瑞根
. Make your way past the Launch Bay, down the hallway to the southeast, and to the right. Find the lever consoles, and use the options given when interacting with them to input
1222176597
(One digit for each lever). Click the
Inconspicuous Note
that spawns once you have correctly inputted the sequence.
Sixth Note
Enter the house in
瓦尔莎拉
at
66.5, 36.0
, and click on the
梦魇囊肿
attached to the left wall. Complete the puzzle by clicking eyeballs to swap the position of lines, with the objective being to "untangle" all the lines. When the lines are all blue, you have completed the puzzle, and an
不起眼的纸条
will spawn in front of the Nightmare Tumor. As usual, be sure to click on the note.
Seventh Note
Travel to
昆莱山
, and find the Tomb of Secrets at
53.3, 49.3
. Once inside the building, go to the back of the room and click the Urn. Accept the dialogue options to be teleported into the Endless Halls. Match all five colored (red, yellow, green, blue, purple) orbs with their corresponding runes. After matching the final pair, head into any adjacent room, and then click on the
Inconspicuous Note
in the center.
Final Location
Head to
逆风小径
, where you will then proceed down the stairs of Karazhan Crypt. Your prize requires you to venture to the deepest part of the crypt. Atop the pile sits the box containing your mount -- climb up to click and loot it, and congrats! You have obtained your very own
清醒的梦魇
!
Full Guide
This section will cover each step in-depth, with maps, images, and solutions to clues. If you wish to learn more about the intricacies behind this puzzle, check out the official Blizzard post on the secret,
Riddle Me This: Decrypting the Lucid Nightmare
First Note - Dalaran
The first note is found in the Legion version of
达拉然
, in the shop called "Curiosities and Moore."
/way Dalaran:Broken Isles 48.4, 57.5 Curiosities and Moore
Curiosities and Moore Entrance
Go up the stairs, to the upper level of the shop, and you will see a table with an
不起眼的纸条
on it. Click the note, and you will see the following text:
It begins in the 2104059.
With a most pleasing sign.
(These letters will not always rhyme.)
The first clue within the note is the number
2104059
. These numbers can be rearranged to create 4/15/2009, the release date of Patch 3.1.0, "Secrets of Ulduar." This patch contained the release of the beloved raid Ulduar, found within
风暴峭壁
.
Second Note - Ulduar
The second note requires a puzzle to be completed in the room of the
奥杜尔
boss
XT-002拆解者
. After entering Ulduar, kill
烈焰巨兽
. The next two bosses,
锋鳞
and
掌炉者伊格尼斯
, can be skipped, and you can proceed directly to XT's room. Kill the boss so you have a clear area to work on the upcoming puzzle.
Ulduar Entrance
Rusty Lever
The second clue we need from the previous Inconspicuous Note is the "most pleasing sign." The signs of each of the Titan Guardians can be seen in the entryway to their respective area within Ulduar. Out of all of the signs, Mimiron's, a gear, appears to be the easiest to transpose onto a grid.
In the northwest corner of XT's room, you will find a
生锈的拉杆
hidden atop the pile of scrap, jutting out of a scrapped Mechagnome head. Clicking the lever causes a 20x20 grid of tiny lights to spawn in the center of the room.
Clicking a light will turn it on, and clicking again will turn it off. The goal here is to click the necessary lights to form the pattern below. The squares marked in green correspond to the lights that need to be turned on. If you are having trouble, the image on the right side may be easier to understand. Each light is represented by a dot, and the black dots are the ones you need to turn on.
Once you create the correct pattern, the lights will despawn, and another
Inconspicuous Note
will appear in the center. Interact with the note to read it.
1000 years imprisoned.
Surely it weigh on the mind.
Third Note - Temple of Ahn'Qiraj
The previous note refers to
克苏恩
, deep within
安其拉
, also known as AQ40.
The entrance to AQ40 is at the following coordinates:
/way Ahn'Qiraj: The Fallen Kingdom 46.8, 7.5 AQ40 Entrance
AQ40 Entrance
Mind Larva
Once in the instance, you need to clear all the bosses before C'thun. You do not need to kill C'thun, or even enter his room, as the spot where the puzzle continues is just outside of it. You will see a staircase leading to a small table with a
Mind Larva
sitting upon it. When clicked, the worm spawns an old-god version of
珠宝争霸
--
烧脑争霸
!
Complete the puzzle by matching 5 Yogg-Saron brains in a row - horizontally or vertically. Reaching a certain score will also "win" you the game. Once you have won, the puzzle will despawn, and another
Inconspicuous Note
will appear on the table to the right of the Mind Larva. Click it, and it will read:
Deeper than deep.
Awaits your seat.
Forth Note - Deepholm
"Deep" hints towards the zone
深岩之洲
, an earthen realm that once served as Deathwing's hiding place as he returned to strength. Before proceeding with this step, craft or purchase the item
暗纹面罩
. Travel to Deepholm and then enter the Crumbling Depths, found at the following coordinates:
/way Deepholm 58.2, 25.5 Crumbling Depths Entrance
Crumbling Depths Entrance
Once inside, navigate further into the cave, taking care to avoid the
巨大的旋岩虫
that patrols the circular roundabout. If you are caught in its path, you will be knocked back to the entrance of the room.
After you have made it past the roundabout, you will encounter a
黑暗裂隙
located behind one of the blocks of stone.
/way Deepholm 63.8, 22.5 Dark Fissure
Before you click on the fissure, be sure to equip your
暗纹面罩
. Accept the text prompts to continue, and drop into the fissure. You will find yourself in a room with a single chair, adorned with a plaque on the back. The plaque reads as follows.
<The plaque is old and barely legible. You can only make
out fragments of each line of text.>
Supremacy?
Get...
Shirk...
...eke...
Click here to reveal how to derive the solution using the hint!
NOTE: You do NOT have to visit Racksum Greep to complete the secret! Stop by and say hello at your own leisure.
The message on the plaque is actually an anagram! The ellipses after each of the words originally had players thinking that the message was just missing words, and needed to be filled in. As the solving continued, secret-finders learned that the message meant drastically different things depending on the language people had their client in. It was eventually noted that "is the key" could be formed out of some of the letters in the message. Players who played in other languages were able to make similar phrases using their version of the plaque message.
Eventually, it was found that the NPC
拉克森·握柄
had been stealthily added into the game with the launch of Patch 7.0.3, replacing another NPC as to not tip players off too easily. This goblin is found in
北贫瘠之地
, near the Flight Master in Ratchet.
/way Northern Barrens 69.0, 70.7 Racksum Greep
With the partial anagram of "is the key," the remaining letters in the message are "uprmacgsrkee." These letters can be rearranged to spell Racksum Greep! So, our full decoded anagram is "Racksum Greep is the key." Racksum is wearing an interesting set of clothing, and what we are after is his mask. This mask appears to be Shadoweave Mask, a crafted cloth head-piece. The pattern itself,
图样:暗纹面罩
has a very low chance to drop from
黑铁锻造师
in
灼热峡谷
. If you have a Tailor and are willing to farm the mats and pattern, you can choose to do so. Otherwise, check your auction house, or see if anyone in Trade chat is willing to make one for you for a fee.
Interacting with the
Strange Skull
while wearing the Shadoweave Mask will cause the next
Inconspicuous Note
to spawn in front of the chair. The note reads:
Where the shaded delegate may appear.
Hopefully you have a Hearthstone off cooldown or a portal, because there is no way to leave the room otherwise!
Fifth Note - Gnomeregan
"The shaded delegate" refers to
黑铁大使
, a rare NPC that "may" be found within
诺莫瑞根
, a low-level dungeon in
丹莫罗
.
Alliance characters should be able to access the dungeon quickly by teleporting to
铁炉堡
, and then flying to Gnomeregan. If you are on a Horde character, the quickest way to Gnomeregan is to take the
奥格瑞玛
zeppelin to
北荆棘谷
(subzone of
荆棘谷
), and then use the teleport directly to Gnomeregan in Grom'gol Base Camp.
/way Northern Stranglethorn 36.8, 51 Teleporter to Gnomeregan
Gnomeregan Entrance
Horde Teleport to Gnomeregan
When you are inside the instance, jump down to the level where the boss
粘性辐射尘
is located. From there, go down the long hallway to the left, towards the Launch Bay.
There is no need to defeat
电刑器6000型
either, simply jump down to the ground below. Then, head to the southeast hallway. At the end of the hallway, and to the right, you will find a set of levers, a
魔血掠夺者
. If you are having trouble finding them, use these coordinates while on the "Launch Bay" floor of the map.
/way 35.7 54.2 Gnomeregan Levers
Numerical Consoles
There is a plaque above the levers that reads "Instructions," and the text that appears when clicked is as follows:
01110111 00100 10010110 10101
11110111 01100 01111111 01000

+1111111111
Click here to reveal how to derive the solution using the hint!
The series of ones and zeroes are grouped together only in certain numbers:
groups of 5
,
groups of 8
, and
groups of 24
. The groups of 5 and 8 numbers only ever appear in pairs. Simply add together the number of ones for each group of 8 number, then add up the number of ones for its paired group of 5. Then, multiply the two numbers.
For example, the first two sets of numbers are "01110111" and "00100." Adding the ones in the 8-bit set yields "6," as there are six ones. Doing the same to the 5-bit set yields "1," as there is only a single one. Multiplying the two values, 6 and 1, gives us the number 6.
You can repeat this process for the next 3 pairs of 8-bit and 5-bit numbers, and you will obtain the numbers "12," "14," and "7." At this point, we have reached a string of 24 numbers, or a 24-bit value. To extract the number needed from this value, all we need to do is add up the ones. In the case of the first 24-bit number we encounter, when we add up the ones, we get the number "13."
Follow these steps for the rest of the 5, 8, and 24-bit numbers, and we receive the following numbers:
6 12 14 7 13 18 12 3 13 20 25 3 8 18 7 25 2 13
Each number corresponds to a letter, where 1 is A, 2 is B, 3 is C, and so on. When we convert our numbers to letters, we get:
F L N G M R L C M T Y C H R G Y B M
Splitting up this string of letters gives us FLNGMRLC, MTYCHRG, and YBM. These happen to correspond to Battle Pet abilities belonging to the BlizzCon Murloc pet rewards from 2013, 2014, and 2015.
奔波尔小圣
has
天降鱼人
,
奔波尔咆哮
has
强力冲锋
, and
鱼蛋
has
眼棱
. At level 25, these abilities deal 684, 560, and 1110 (370 x 3 rounds) damage each, respectively. Concatenating these values gives us the string
6845601110
.
The next part of our instructions is "180," a hint that the value we have needs to be flipped around. Doing so gives us the number
0111065486
. The last step, "+1111111111," simply tells us to increment each digit by 1. Doing this leaves us with the number
1222176597
, or final solution!
Using this hint, click on the levers one at a time, choosing either <Push the lever up> and <Pull the lever down> to increment or decrement the number, respectively. The code you want to use is
1-2-2-2-1-7-6-5-9-7
, with each digit corresponding to one of the consoles.
Once this combination has been entered, the lever consoles will close, and the next
Inconspicuous Note
will spawn! This one reads:
Games and toys are left behind.
When you awaken screaming.
Sixth Note - Val'sharah
For the next note, we will need to travel to
瓦尔莎拉
in the Broken Isles. This zone was plagued by the Emerald Nightmare, corrupting the environment and residents with horrible thoughts and dreams.
Our destination is a small house near the rare NPC
怒爪
.
/way Val'sharah 66.5, 36.0 Val'sharah House
Val'sharah House
Once inside, locate the
梦魇囊肿
on the wall to the left, and click on it. Doing so will spawn another puzzle.
In order to solve this puzzle, you must "untangle" all the lines, meaning that your end goal is to have no intersecting lines. The lines start out red, and will turn blue when they are not intersecting with any other lines. Click the eyes to swap their positions with one another, which also moves the positions of the lines with them. It helps to work from the outside to the inside, untangling as you go in sections.
When all the lines have turned blue, you have solved the puzzle. The next
不起眼的纸条
will spawn in front of the tumor. It reads:
What you seek is buried within.
Seventh Note - Endless Halls
Travel to
昆莱山
and locate the Tomb of Secrets, a likely place to find the next step of a "secret" puzzle. Within this room you will find an
罐子
which can be interacted with.
/way Kun-Lai Summit 53.3, 49.3 Tomb of Secrets Urn
Tomb of Secrets
Click the urn, and choose the dialogue option <Consume the ashes.> You will be teleported to a maze within the
无尽大殿
.
The objective of the maze is to bring all 5 colored orbs (
Red
,
Yellow
,
Green
,
Blue
, and
Purple
) to their corresponding colored runes (also
Red
,
Yellow
,
Green
,
Blue
, and
Purple
). The orbs and runes will all be in different rooms. Your movement speed will also be buffed, allowing you to traverse the maze a bit faster.
Click here for additional tips, information, and help for the Endless Halls!
Your maze is generated randomly upon zoning into the Endless Halls, and it will be unique to you and only you. There is no way to look up a step-by-step solution online, or get direct help from other players. The maze will also reset daily, meaning that if you choose to call it quits for the night and try again in the morning, you will end up with an entirely new map, and any and all progress you have made will be reset.
All orbs and runes will be in separate rooms. The orbs will never disappear, whether you click and acquire their aura or not. The runes, on the other hand, will disappear if you click on them while you have the correct color-orb buff on your character when doing so.
The following image was put together by Celestalon himself to explain the mechanics of the maze.
As you can see, there are several things that make the puzzle harder than it may seem at first glance.
First and foremost, there is the teleportation trap room! There will be exactly one room that will teleport you randomly elsewhere in the maze upon entering it. If you do not keep track of where this room is, you can end up getting lost and confused very quickly.
The simplest way to check if you have been teleported at any point is to double back on every room you enter. While this takes additional time, it will likely end up saving you time in the end, if you know what room to avoid. If the room you double back into is different from the room you just came from, you will know you have been teleported. Likewise, if you enter a room, and the passageway from where you entered is blocked with rubble, you were teleported. Once you make note of where this room is, take every measure possible to avoid it.
The next wrench in the maze are the looping edges. Not only do the outer edges of the room loop back to one another, they do so with an additional offset. This means you can quickly re-encounter rooms you just passed through, though it does not mean you've been randomly teleported. You can always backtrack to make it back to the original room you were in, as these loops still abide by the existing connections of the rooms.
Last but not least are the "cross" rooms. While you will never find a room with 4 open passageways, 2 rooms "stacked" on top of each other may give the impression of this being the case when you map. The two rooms occupy the same spot in the grid, but their passageways run perpendicular to each other, and they do not actually intersect at any point. As long as you know of the existence of these rooms, they should not pose a problem to you when mapping.
As for mapping itself, you have several options.
Of course, you can choose to forgo mapping altogether, and run in blind. While this may enable you to finish the maze in as few as 20 minutes, it also has the potentially of subjecting you to several hours of running around. Essentially, your completion of the maze using such a method is entirely dependent on luck.
The addon
Lucid Nightmare Helper
and the site
http://endlessmap.info/
may help you map your maze. Unfortunately, these addons do not account for the teleportation room, so your map may be slightly inaccurate.
You can also map your maze by hand, either digitally or on a sheet of paper. Be sure to mark all runes and orbs, as well as the connections between the rooms.
If you choose to map either with the addon, site, or by hand, it is best to not pick up and match any runes or orbs until you have found them all. That way, you can use all of the runes as landmarks when running through your maze.
Once you have placed the fifth orb with its matching rune, go into any of the adjacent rooms, and you will find the final
Inconspicuous Note
of the puzzle. As usual, click on the note to read it, for your last clue.
The way is now open.
To the greatest secret never told.
A fitting end to your journey.
The Lucid Nightmare - Solved!
Go to
逆风小径
, and locate the crypt behind

. Previously blocked off to players for years, and a source of speculation and theories, now that you have completed all the prior steps for this secret, you can access this area!
/way Deadwind Pass 39.8, 73.6 Entrance to Forgotten Crypt
Forgotten Crypt
As you descend, you may start to understand why this crypt was a central point of discussion for the community. It's downright creepy - piles of skulls and bones, corpses strewn about, and even an entire underwater room filled with the decaying bodies of punished victims.
It's quite easy to get lost while trying to find your way through the crypt. Follow the screenshots above to reach your destination correctly. If you are having trouble locating the passageway in the fifth picture, make sure to turn around right after you enter the body of water in the fourth picture.
Once you have reached the last room, climb the giant pile of bones in the far corner, on top of which sits your prize. Click
Puzzler's Desire
to loot it, and congratulations, you have acquired your very own
清醒的梦魇

Fantastic guide, thank you, once I realised I needed to connect the rooms in the maze, I was all set, took an hour to complete the maze. I wouldn't have been able to do it without your guide.

Just did this. The addon helped hugely (still got lost but was able to complete the maze portion in about an hour and a half). One thing I will note is that the Quick instructions has the code wrong. The code should be 1-2-2-2-1-7-6-5-9-7 and not 1-2-2-2-7-6-5-9-7. There are 10 levels and you need to set them all.

What a fantastic guide, quest and journey! Everyone should do this quest the sheer madness of it and the Endless Halls is great even though i was totally lost for 6 hours. The mount is also very nice in my opinion. I wish more things were in this game like this. And the hall of the upside-down sinners ( i had no idea it was there) was even more shocking! 11/10 would recommend to a friend. Do this quest and give in to the madness!

Nightmare is the right word for this, the maze is horrible.
I found the best way was using the add on and marking the orbs and runes when I found them. Pickup the orbs as soon as you see them and hopefully you either already have or soon find the rune it goes with. Also go like 5/6 rooms from the first rune then turn back and follow a different path for 5/6 rooms. This way you have less chance of hitting the edge of the maze and overlapping paths early on.
As soon as the map starts to overlap too much, get to a rune, clear the map, remark the rune and start again. Obviously you will need to keep note of the runes you have cleared already.
All in took me about 3 hours with maybe an hour in the maze before I switched to the tactic above. 15 minutes later I was on my way to Karazhan to pick up my new mount.

Does the maze have a set size? Like, is it always an 8x8 grid of rooms that wrap around on the edges and the paths between the rooms are what change?

First of all, thank you very much for this guide! :)
I watched some videos and read various comments on how to best get through this maze. This is what I think works very well:
1. Use the Lucid Nightmare helper addon. You are able to automatically map the rooms and mark orbs/runes/blocked paths.
2. Always look behind! Check the path you came from to make sure the path is still there and not some rocks. There is at least 1 teleporter room which will move you to a random spot on the map.
3. The map also has a finite size, although with different layouts. At the edges you will be teleported somewhere else but not necessarily on the same path if you would look at the map as a whole - it could be from left bottom to upper right.
4. Mark all the rocks/blocked paths, orbs and runes. Do NOT pick any of the orbs up yet. There are the only good and reliable waypoints you have. This is in my opinion one of the most important tips. I did my first run without and got lost. There was no chance to find my actual location easily as I already used 3/5 orbs, so only 4 instead of 10 „waypoints“ where left.
5. Move in small areas to test the limits of the paths. If you go up, up, right, down and the first room had rocks on the right side but the last room has a path on the right side of your perspective when you enter, stop now. Do not go in yet. First check some other paths on your way back that you left open the same way. This will create a "safe" but large map. This will enable you an overview and checking points if you get lost.
6. Use the addon's „jump over“ function which will pop up once you move over an existing room and keep doing the same thing until you re-discover a similar layout (i.e. long row of same paths blocked) and try to find any waypoint on your already discovered map. If you found it, hit CTRL and left click the room you know you are in, like a rune or orb you found before. Click left again to confirm and you cursor will move to the selected room. From there on I went on as before and moved into new areas or stayed in the second blue orb room for example and kept exploring different areas to not clutter the map with underpasses. The "Enable/Disable" function for the mapping did not work for me as it always created new rooms even on disabled. This would be even easier if you could turn mapping off once you are lost and walk around until you find something that looks similar - would be a lot less cluttered map as well if you want.
After you found everything needed, pick your route and do it.
As long as you always do "jump over" and not mess up somewhere it is a straightforward method.
Took me 2h12min to find all of them with almost all of them multiple times except the blue rune room. Probably 40-50 % of the time I was searching the blue rune room. Finished in 2h25min. Hope this helps someone.
Have fun and be patient! :)

If you want to follow the path and the next number is nowhere near, it is because I jumped to the original room. No. 78 for example is the red orb room, so I jumped back to No. 57 and went north. I tried to have the original rooms together on the map and explore further out even if the rooms are the same.

Wow. Just wow. HUGE kudos to the players that figured all this out. Does it all have to be done in a single playthrough, or can you spread it out over days/weeks?

f this stupid maze lol. the addon helps a bit but i don't understand how some commenters say they did it in 15mins or even an hour with the addon. how is anyone supposed to accomplish this with out an addon? its been hours for me and i still get lost and havent even found everything and if i do find an orb and have already found a rune i cant get back. i've found the green rune several times in one run and one of the rooms had different exists. wtf? i jump rooms cause even though the addon tells me i'm in a room ive already been to the exists are different. so why should link them?

Amazing guide, couldn't have done it without your help!
The whole trip took me about 4 hours, with the maze taking me almost 2 hours to complete.
MS Paint was the tool I used for it. Just be patient with the maze and pay a lot of attention to every room you travel to.
Good luck!

You remember those dreams where you are somewhere familiair but suddenly it isn't? You walk around a corner and expect to be at a certain place but you aren't? Well, you are going to relive that nightmare for this lucid mount.
If you realize that the maze is not a grid but more like a 3-dimensional map like a cube, sphere or even more complex form, you get a better understanding of it. The add-on only helps you with a 'mapping' of which directions you took. But don't expect to be in the same room after 3 right turns. Mark the rooms with the seals, take screenshots of the 'map' as soon as you have to jump over, because if you don't the map gets really unreadable. Chances that you can backtrack are slim because any room can be the one that teleports you somewhere randomly else in the maze and all the rooms look the same.
Use the add-on and thouroghly map which exits are closed of. That way you can recognize patterns. There are for instance not many rooms with only the south exit blocked off, followed by a room etc. See these 'patterns', combinations of three rooms, and you have a pretty unique combination, from where you can backtrack to the rooms with the seals once you have localized the orbs. By the way, take notes which seals you have done because they will pop-up again (which is handy for oriëntation). The orbs don't come back though.
Expect to have visited more than 100 rooms before you have stumbled over all the 5 seals and corresponding orbs. It takes an evening. And every maze is unique. People bluffing they did this in 15 minutes: "show me the mount" and learn to read the clock. Because you have to be incredibly lucky if you did it a short time. It's like hitting 5 times a wormhole in the right direction.
Good luck, I found this way more easy then getting Baa'l. But still annoying enought to have the satisfiying feeling I really earned that mount.

Aptly named "Lucid Nightmare"...but I will have my mount tomorrow. It would have been impossible for me to do without the guide! Even so, I was stuck in Endless Halls for ** 5 ** days (about 2-3 hours/day) before finally finding all 5 orbs/runes. As the guide says, the maze changes each time you enter it. However, after a while, I began to recognize patterns. The thing I kept having problems with was the wretched teleport room and then figuring out where it dropped me. I used both the add-on and the endless halls mapping tool as well as keeping notes on paper (mostly to remind me which patterns overlapped...tonight, when I finally solved it, I found the purple rune about 8 times in totally different patterns so it was the focal point of my map...keeping notes on paper helped me easily remember which box numbers from the addon were the same rune or orb to use for reference points to getting back to where I needed to be and the purple orb/rune were the last ones I matched since the runes disappear when you match the correct orb to them).
If I had to give the most helpful hint about the Endless Halls maze, it's the hint that lets you know that the runes disappear after you put the correct orb on them while the orbs remain. Since the purple rune was the rune I ran across the most frequently, I knew not to match it until last or it would disappear and my main focal point would be gone. There's also a feature on the add-on that lets you outline the box you're in. When I figured THAT out, I outlined the boxes that the runes were in that I had successfully matched. That helped me make sense of the somewhat confounding map created after detours from the teleportation trap.
(Just in case you're wondering why I won't have my mount until tomorrow, I found the first 4 orbs and runes in about 2 hours tonight...but it took me another two hours to find the fifth orb and another hour to find the fifth rune. It's after midnight and it looks like the crypt might be a little challenging since there are hints about how to negotiate the crypt and what to do if you have trouble finding an entrance.)

Great guide and a lot of great comments. not completing any orbs/altars until you have found them all is absolutely the BEST tip.
i would say the second best tip that is seldom mentioned (or offhandedly mentioned) is that the dungeon has multiple floors. it's why when you approach a certain room from a different side it seemingly has a different layout. the truth is that it doesnt, you're on a different floor. so when you map it, when you enter a room that should have a certain layout and it doesn't, you have probably moved up/down a floor. this is simple to map and will save you a TON of time and frustration.
the best explanation of this i found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJSxr8FRQcA
pay particular attention to how he maps with reference letters every time it "folds" into itself. this method works 100%. after i saw this video i mapped it easily and solved the labyrinth

Anyone doing the final puzzle in the endless halls, I spent about 2 hours looking for green and yellow orbs that weren't there because I had already turned them in and tried to reset the puzzle to get a new map because I wanted to have more points of reference for mapping it out. Turns out when I hearthstoned out and logged off it didn't fully reset the puzzle. The yellow and green runes re-spawned but not the orbs. I also didn't get a new map as I eventually noticed some similarities to the first map. After turning in the remaining orbs I was able to complete the halls, but anyone that is in the same situation might save some time unlike me by not looking for the same orbs you already turned in.

Endless Halls: My experience
After many hours I learned to map this in pieces, the mistake being trying to map it onto a flat surface and expecting things to connect in the normal sense-usege of a 2-d plane.
I reasoned that if I was at a known point, (X in this case) and I could apply a formula (ie, E+E+N+W+etc) and arrive at another known point (Y) and always arrive at that point using that formula in that way, and reversing the sequence of moves brought me back to point X, then that map segment would have been verified as valid between those two points.
When I found out where an orb or rune was at in relation to another orb or rune, I made that as a single (complete) unit of "map"
My final "map" was 'all over the place' because instead of a single map, it was spread out into several units/pieces of map which were actually visual how-to instructions for moving between two known points, similar to how ones moves between busses to go somewhere in a city.
I spent much time running back and forth verifying the points at which various map pieces connected. I know I accidentally hit the teleporter twice because of the mental double-take that happened when things did not line up and in one case I came in from one direction and turned around and that direction was blocked. If you are paying attention and testing and verifying your moves each step of the way you will catch the subtle clues that you may have been teleported. There is no obvious sign that you may have been teleported other than your own good note-keeping along the way. I learned to make my pathway-formulas to steer away from the area on the map where I thought the teleporter might be located and many hours were sacrificed in debunking mapping-errors due to being teleported and finding out later.
Near the end, and before I clicked on anything, I spent even more time actually running the route I would soon take to solve the first orb/rune pair which were located furthest away from each other. Then using that room with the rune as a reference point (even though in the final solve, I would click the rune and the rune would disappear after I clicked on it), I actually ran the route I would take to gather the second orb/rune pair (being a pair I had chosen which seemed easiest to approach and second-most distant from each other) and complete it.
The idea was to continue this so that the fourth and final run between orb/rune would be the shortest run. I continued practicing this by dry-running my route for a while, not clicking on anything until I was confident I could navigate the entire entire solve like a well scripted football play, completely and without error, knowing that the orbs and runes would disappear after I had actually clicked on them.
When the actual solve began, I located my character at the purple orb and upon clicking on it, seeing it disappear from the room, and noticing purple glow on my druid, ran through various map-pieces to the associated purple rune elsewhere in the maze.
...
Even though the map was in many different pieces on different 2D surfaces, they all connected in game-space in such a way that I always knew where I was at and where I was going according to the route I had practiced.
I would advise starting this early in the day as it can take many hours to solve and many people do not have compound hours of interrupted game play available to them; from what I read online about the structure of that map, supposedly the instance resets every 24 hours and each reset generates a new random map, though I have not experienced this myself as I finished it the same day I started.
In my solve, the yellow orb/rune pair were spaced closest together so I solved them as the last pair (only 4 rooms apart).
After the solve in which the final rune disappeared, I left that room.
Apparently no matter which direction you go from the last-pair-solve-room you end up in a brightly colored room with your final clue.

This is a fantastic guide - thank you so much! All in all, took about 7 hours, 3 of which were spent in the penultimate step of the Endless Halls maze.
Tips:
I used the Lucid Nightmare Helper app, and then fathomed there is a pattern...
Using the app (type "/lucid" for it to appear) make sure you mark up the rooms.
Don't worry about doubling back to make sure you know where the teleport room is.
Don't pick up any orbs until you find both an orb room and a circle room of same colour, then go and grab that orb and place it on the circle. Don't leave it all until the end because if you do enter a portal room without realising, you won't be able to find your way back.
It's up to you whether you clear the map or not. Also, contrary to other posts, it doesn't all reset...
When you're going around the maze, keep your directions consistent. I.e. either always go straight if you can, or left... Keep doing this and keep your progress tight around the rooms you've already been in. If after some time, you keep appearing to come back to the same room (maybe the same orb room), keep logging it, but then change up your direction - and keep that consistent, and tight against the rooms you've mapped out again...
If you then enter a room which can't be linked, just choose the "jump" button on the addon so it keeps track of where you are going. When you find another orb room and circle room of the same colour, go get the orb and match them.
This tactic dramatically sped up the progress once I realised it! Have fun, and stay patient :)

I really have to say the "Endless Halls" portion of this is the worst one. I spent around 3 hours there, carefully mapping with MS Paint. Once I had identified the teleport trap, it became much easier. I never got the map into an 8 by 8 grid, but that is thankfully not the objective there.

Amazing guide and the players that find these out are just crazy :D!
Also great tips in here... I took about 2h to finish the maze just 8 minutes before server shutdown for maintenance (totally forgot it).
1. I didn't use any addon because some comments said it's not totally reliable. Used a spreadsheet to map the maze, with O for open, B for bloqued and R for rune and 0 for the orbe. Marked the rune and orb with the corresponding colour. Example (it looks better on the spreadsheet):
*O**B***B
B*OO*OORB
*O**O***B
2. Great advise is to check the rooms, either go back or walk in circles and if you don't get the same layout after, map it to another point on the spreadsheet. After a while you'll be able to see where you jumped and join the parts.
3. You can grab one orb, but don't match it with the rune until you find all orbs and runes because it's your best reference for the map.
4. I wasn't sure on how the orbs looked like so I passed by the first one (the blue one) and didn't see it until the next one and walked a lot without any reference. The orb is like a flame on top of the stand lamps beside the square stone on the middle of the room.
5. Don't panic. It's treaky but the map after a while will help you and keep in mind that there's a portal room but it will just port you to another point on the map that sooner or later you'll identify.
6. After the last rune / orb is matched you need to get out of the room to get to the note, it's on the guide but you might miss it after 2h of maze run :D
Edit: for some reason point 1 example wasn't showing well, and had to represent spaces (or empty cells) with an asterisk.
Have fun

About the maze, don't know if most of you have noticed but there's always a pattern and will repeat at infinite. At some point trying to run as much as one can in a direction you'll encounter same rune or orbs color again. It's exactly same thing that you found first time, work a bit around and you'll discover the missing runes/orbs. As someone said don't take any orb and click it's rune until you discover all of them, you'll going to use them as a reference point. try to use as much as you can any direction that will prevent overlapping rooms, using helper addon will make it a bit hard to see if you went that way or the way under. Always keep a paper and a pen at hand, taking notes where you think you need it it may help you later.
Don't be like me and play a bit with addon's interface since it's a very good tool. Keep markers(top left) for where runes will be and pick one rune as reference point when you'll encounter another portion with same pattern of placed runes. The mid left thingy that looks like an 8bit wheel :) will help you mark the closed exits, where the rocks are. Pretty much ;ole Hansel and Gretel leaving breadcrumbs behind. as for the 5 squares in lower left(for some reason on my interface 3 green and 2 black, they're just like markers above but use them to mark the borders of a room where you find the orbs, pay attention that the border is barely visible and since the colors are not displayed on the interface for those markers just try one by one till you find the corresponding color. Have phun!
PS: Do anyone missing "The Cube" movie, or the follow ups? Cause I think it's the best reference for this maze. :D

There is a modified version of the addon available, called LucidNightmareNavigator
https://github.com/Debuggernaut/LucidNightmareNavigator/releases
I failed horribly with all kinds of manual maps no matter if pen and paper, Excel or the LucidNavigatorHelper addon but with this addon I finally succeeded!
Similar to the Helper addon you have to mark the walls in every room and mark the runes once you have found them but in addition it also allows you to mark the runes. The great thing about this addon is that you do not have to worry about the map, as the addon builds and utilizes the map itself in memory and once you have marked an already existing object it automatically adjusts its map and points you to the nearest unexplored hallway. Once you have found all objects you can select any orb or rune and it will navigate you right to it. Basically, all you have to do is mark carefully and follow the instructions in chat.
The only issue is the teleporter. It does not recognise it properly and will give you directions using the teleporter room, which will obviously fail. If you know the location of the teleporter you can go around it because at one point it will calculate another way to your loaction but if you want to be on the safe side, you should go exactly the way the addon suggests right from the beginning by setting walls and always hitting the Unexplored Territory direction button afterwards (not really necessary but you want to be on the safe side!) and once you have found the teleporter room (Always look back after entering a room. If the way is blocked, you have been teleported), note down the number and direction from the previous room and completely restart the maze by zoning out. Now use exactly the same way again and once you are in the room you have noted down, just put a wall in the direction of the teleporter. Now you don't have to worry about anything anymore and just mark and follow the directions.
Edit: This was the map it build from my successfull run:

Successfully completed this today! No issues other than it being quite time consuming - especially the Endless Halls. Would definitely recommend a thorough read-through of all comments above for this bit, they helped me out a lot.
A tip for the maze:
I tried using the helper and navigator addons initially, but they don't account for certain things - you might find yourself confused and frustrated if you rely on them alone. I would recommend that you draft your own map as you go along. MS Excel worked just fine for me.
Oh, and something else: While it might seem pointless,
it is a must
to check there is no stone wall behind you each time you enter a room to make sure you haven't been teleported somewhere else in the maze. This will wreck your addon (if you're using one) and will certainly screw your self-drawn map up if you've opted to do it that way.
G'luck, all!

Fantastic guide, thank you so much, I thought the entire experience was amazing and I would never have gotten it done without all the great help on here ^^
As a note, doing the maze really made me think of the horror movie Cube (from I think 1997) - it was so similar that it almost made me wonder if it was an inspiration for this maze ^^ To anyone who hadn't seen it, I would highly recommend watching it as it's actually quite a good suspenseful and surreal film. If you've done the maze I think you'd be able to relate to it, haha! :D
Another note about the maze: some people said they finished it very quickly with the add-on, while others said that it still took them a very long time even with the add-on. In my experience, this also partly depends on the map you get, which happens by pure chance. On my first day doing this I got a more challenging map and I was at it for several hours without finishing. Came back the following day and completely by chance I got a much easier map, and I finished much more quickly.
A really important note about the Lucid Nightmare add-on for the maze: I was not aware that apparently in the add-on it's possible to change the position of your cursor within the map (thank you to Gauban for your comment about this:
"hit CTRL and left click the room you know you are in, like a rune or orb you found before. Click left again to confirm and you cursor will move to the selected room."
I could really have used this function while doing the maze for when I was teleported, because I had recognized where in my map I now appeared, but I thought I had no way of changing my cursor to there without having the add-on number the rooms wrong after teleporting me.
The last part of the quest was fun for me because back in TBC a friend and I had managed to explore the this area beneath Kara, as back then there was a way to get in by being feared inside in a duel (Bliz had later made this impossible). That adventure had been fun for me back in TBC, and it had been many years since I had been down there so it was very cool to visit again.
All in all THANK YOU so much for the fantastic guide and for all the very helpful comments on here, I enjoyed it tremendously even with the maze, haha!

I finally finished this for both myself and my partner. Most of it was relatively easy, but the Endless Halls SUCKED.
On my own account, it took me about two hours to solve once I knew the rules. My partner's account was a total nightmare though. Laptop died halfway through mapping and the map was on there so it went poof. Took me another three to four hours to map it out;
this was the end result

My experience in the Endless Halls:
3 days trying to find all orbs and runes as people said. No luck, lost, teleport room....
Then i start the 4 day using some tactics i find in the in the youtube comments section: As soon you find an orb and rune match, deliver to the respective rune.
In doing this I found the other colors faster. There was a case when I found a rune in one room and in the next room I had the respective orbs.

This guide was extremely helpful and I would never have figured out any of the riddles on my own, Even though I didn't notice there was an addon I still had no confusion what so ever finding things.
In all it took me about two hours from start to finish with the maze taking a quick 35-45 minutes (I got an extremely good seed). One thing that helped me on the maze was to not try and memorize the rooms but the general layout of a set of rooms, I put sets of rooms into what I felt was the corners of the maze and worked from there, So when I felt I needed to go to the south-east I had the general idea of where to go.

Present me thinks past me is a complete *!@#$%.
Two days, seven hours, five of which spent in a 104 room maze, two addons and some serious self doubt later I now have a mount
THAT CAN'T EVEN FLY!
I mean. it's gonna look absolutely sick in shadowlands, largely because I doubt many people will have it...
Was it worth it? No. God no. I'm a serial mount collector and had I know the difficulty I'd have left this till last! Honestly all the honor level mounts would feel better than this!

Ive mapped out nearly my entire maze noting all the orbs and runes and noted where the teleporation trap is, yet I can't find the blue orb or the yellow rune. The only unexplored area on the 8x8 grid is ONLY accessible THROUGH the teleportation trap. Is this intended as a $%^&ed up joke? Is this a bug or did I mess up somewhere?

If anyone is struggling with the "Bejeweled Game", I just clicked the slug, and if I didnt have 5 in a row on the first screen, right click the debuff and click the slug again. Took me less than a 2 minutes to spawn a winning game compared to half hour I spend trying to "Win"

Honestly it wasn't that hard, I walked around aimlessly for like an hour and a half and completed the maze. Just walk in one direction until you cant anymore find an orb and run until you find its matching alter; then repeat until finished. My friend is still mapping out the maze as I type this.

Just got this mount and here's some tips for the whole process. First I'm going to start with the pre-maze tips, then do a separate section for the maze as I have a few comments on it.
Pre-maze/general tips:
Do it on a mage. Mages can teleport everywhere and will grossly cut down the time needed to go from one area to another, esp if something glitched and you need to go back. You have to go from Legion dalaran -> Old Dalaran -> Ulduar -> Ahn'qiraj -> Deepholm -> Gnomeregan -> Valsharah -> Kun Lai summit. At one point in deepholm if you don't have hearth off of CD or a portal, you're stuck there, there's no way out, no way to fly, nothing. Mages make this 100x simpler and faster
Buy the shadoweave mask first before you start this entire process. It cost me 900 gold on a populated server.
For the ulduar lights -> do the large swath of lights that go vertically and horizontally all the way first. You can then use those as extra reference for the slightly more complicated edges. Take all the time you need, it's not possible to make this completely non-functional, you can still make it work.
Ahn'Qiraj - set the game up so you have a 5 brainer. That is 2 brains <something else> 2 brains. Then that something else can be flipped and replaced with a brain. 5 brains wins you the game and gets you the next scroll. One person recommended resetting the game by right clicking the slug until you get a 5 brain situation from the start. I didn't do this but if your luck is bad you can try it out.
Gnomeregan - if you're horde, you can portal to stonard and just fly to STV instead of waiting for the zep. Then take the teleporter to gnomeregan from STV
MAZE TIPS:
I spent way longer than I needed to trying to understand the mechanics of the addon and of the maze itself. So I'm going to offload my experience here.
Use the endless halls mapping tool here:
http://endlessmap.info/
or download the addon here
https://github.com/Debuggernaut/LucidNightmareNavigator/releases/tag/ManualTeleport
When you enter the maze for the first time, load up the addon with /ln, and then LOOK which way your character arrow on the minimap is pointed. If it's down, you're facing south, if it's up you're facing North, if it's left you're facing west, and right you're facing East. I made the mistake of not seeing this and treating the way I was pointed as "North", when in fact I was pointed South. This completely disoriented me when it came time to navigate around. So LOOK first.
ALWAYS ORIENT YOURSELF NORTH UP. This will keep you from being confused when you're both navigating and also setting the settings on your addon. Arrow up on minimap = North up.
The endless maze online version is very clear about how to label the zones you come into. If you see a blocked off pathway you can mark it as "wall/rocks" in that particular direction. The addon on the other hand is counter-intuitive. The buttons all say "No wall <direction>", where direction is East, West, North, South. If you see a wall in some direction, let's say east, you have to click the button that says "No wall East" and it'll change to "Wall on the East side". The addon basically automatically defaults to there being no walls on any side, and you click the button to say that there's a wall on that side, even if the text on that button is the opposite, it's counterintuitive. You'll know if you did it right because the little gray pathway icon linking one room to another will disappear when you click on that button.
Explore everything. Go in multiple directions and in each room MAKE SURE TO MARK THE WALLS IN THE ADDON. This will become invaluable when you eventually have to navigate to known waypoints.
The braziers in the middle of the room will have colored lights if it's an orb room. Hovering the mouse over the braziers will show that it's an orb item. The stones in the middle will have an aura if it's an aura room. Hovering your mouse over the aura WILL NOT show what aura it is UNLESS you have an orb on you.
Mark on the addon if the room is an orb or an aura room.
Do not click on any orbs until you've discovered every single orb and aura
Often times when you get into a room it moves you several rooms in a particular direction. This is not a teleporter room. I ended up getting moved several rooms, and thought it was a teleporter room. It wasn't. It was a big loop in the maze that led me back one of the known points (either orb or aura). When you encounter this, try to navigate around and find your way back to a known waypoint. When you do, see if the addon has marked that known waypoint in another room. Mark the known waypoint (orb or aura) when you see it. The addon will say "are you sure this is the <waypoint>? Click again to confirm". Do so. This will now track the previous room you came from as a loop in the maze and it will be severely advantageous when you're navigating back from one waypoint to another.
If you've discovered all the orbs and auras, stop what you're doing. There's no more labeling in the addon, there's no more exploring. It's time to wrap the maze up
When you turn in an orb into a rune,
that rune disappears. Forever.
If you didn't mark it on the map, you're going to get confused. So make sure you do the orbs in one specific order, so you don't get lost. You may have been taught in your childhood that the colors of the rainbow are ROY G BIV. This stands for Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet. Use this to help you maintain the order when you're doing the orbs. I went Red Yellow Green Blue and Purple in that order. Use the addon to help you navigate, it kept track of all the loops so it can navigate you faster than you can.

Just completed this and got my mount! I took the advice provided in the comments and did this on my mage. Definitely made it go faster!
Regarding the Shadoweave Mask.
At least on my server, the recipe was going for close to 1000g. I know that is not a whole lot in today's WoW economy, but I thought I would try my hand at getting the
Pattern: Shadoweave Mask
to drop from the
Dark Iron Steamsmith
mobs in Searing Gorge. I didn't even spend 10 minutes killing mobs before I got one to drop. The only reason it took that long is because I was waiting on respawns. While you are in Searing Gorge, make sure to grab any materials you may need to craft the mask. It requires 8
Shadow Silk
and 2
Bolt of Mageweave
. (I picked up the
Heavy Silken Thread
in Stormwind.) The Dark Iron Steamsmiths have a chance to drop Mageweave and the nearby lava spiders have a chance to drop Shadow Silk. The amount required for each is minimal so it shouldn't take long to farm what you need.
Regarding the Endless Halls maze.
I struggled with this. As of today, the recommended addon Lucid Nightmare Helper does not work. It appears that the developer is working to update it, but I was unable to use it. At first, out of curiosity, I tried the "run around blindly" method. Do NOT do that. I highly recommend using
Endless Map
. It takes patience, but it works. For me, I doubled back a lot to make sure I had mapped things properly. Patience is the key though. I would also echo what was advised in the guide in that it is best to not extinguish any runes until they have all been found. Having those rooms as landmarks is a BIG help. For whatever reason, the red rune was the hardest for me to find in all my attempts before completing the maze.
There was something eerie and fascinating about the Forgotten Crypts. I felt like I was in a "Developer Only" part of WoW. It definitely felt very old to me. All in all, I really enjoyed this hunt. The guide was very useful, and it took me less than 48 hours from start to finish (that's real time, not game time.)

First off, I just found out my Wild Dreamrunner can now fly...which is a bonus as I was a bit disappointed in the mount after finally getting it as I tend to use mostly flying mounts. Then the guy who gave me that info told me about the Lucid Nightmare mount and showed it to me. Now I come here and find out it is a struggle...buuuut I did have my doubts about the Bee mount so I will give this a go too!

This guide was amazing. Yesterday I've solved the maze for myself which took me about an hour, today I've helped my girlfriend who got a maze that probably was the most difficult I've ever experienced. Since we're both completionists, we didn't suffice by finding all the orbs and runes but wanted to draw out the whole 8x8 maze. To the best of my knowledge, every maze is unique per player and per day, and always able to put into an 8x8 grid.

My Notes- 11-30-20
Maze Room-
Total time for maze was a few hours, but in real time it was about 6 hours because I had to log out to do stuff at home, when I logged back in, my progression was saved, but I was not in the same room I was in when I logged out, If I had an orb I still did, but in a different room.
Try setting down a toy? If you do it will be there waiting for you when you enter the next room in the maze. I thought it was kinda cool seeing a Hyper-Compressed Ocean in every room I went to, until it went away when it was supposed to, you can catch fish too.
When you finish and go through the black fog, you will see the note and find yourself in Guo-Lai Halls, that same fun place where you camp Rei Lun to try for a Pristine Cloud Serpent Scale, but don't port out to get your mount just yet, have a look around and you will discover a hallway with that same black foggy stuff that separates rooms in the maze, but when you go through this time, you will be outdoors in a very unusual place, still in Pandaria, but just don't run through the fog at full speed, you will find out why.
Got mount? head back to the same room you drank those ashes and drink them again, you will find yourself in the same maze, but its not the same, you will see 2 fog areas you can walk through but each one leads to a different area of Guo-Lai Halls but this time it looks like a tornado hit the place- chunks of cement are all around along with broken pillars and other things seem to look different too, I looked around and then ported out.
When you pass through Deepholm, keep an eye on the sky, Aeonaxx is a rare NPC you might see flying around, if you do, be the first to click on him and jump on his back to fight him, win and you get Reins of the Phosphorescent Stone Drake, Attained by 10% of profiles. (Lucid Nightmare Attained by 34% of profiles) have fun.

These endless halls are... endless. Geeze!
I found a few just by going clockwise as much as possible. After a few hours I downloaded this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lf8Q4SI_7iKHYX4DedcLqrv9N6NwyuGD/view
(thank you
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/lucid-nightmare-helper
)
The add on is helpful and it isn't. Sometimes, clearing the map and logging out would help.
IT RESETS:
I started on 12/5 and matched 2 orbs/runes. I logged back in on 12/6 and had to
start over
. Took me about 2 hours of intermittent playtime (I have a 4 month old) before I finished. However, if you are holding a rune and log out, you will still be holding that rune (I tried this on just re-logs/refresh, not logging out for the night).
Once you find and match all 5 runes/orbs go into a random next room and you should see a small load screen that takes you back to the very beginning outside. The scroll will be on the alter.
Hope this helps and Good luck!

Thank you for this guide - I took a few hours, one hour alone on the Endless Halls.
For the Endless Halls: I did not use addons or even notes, I just keep on hugging the right wall until I find an orb of the corresponding rune, rince and repeat until done.
Also I can confirm that as of today (January 2021) this is now a flying mount.

while you run the halls and describe what areas are blocked in each room. There are many awesome hints and comments listed below (thank you), but having 2 people made it soooo much easier.

A Methodical and Straightforward Way to Solve the Endless Halls Maze
The wowhead article on how to solve the Endless Halls maze is very well done. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work. In my experience, it works less than half the time. I’ll explain a method that will always work.
I'll link a picture to help explain this:
Maze Mechanics and Example
First we need to understand the mechanics.
The maze is an 8 by 8 grid of rooms, only one path can exist in each room with the exception of north/south and east/west rooms; they can cross over each other. There are no empty rooms in the 8 by 8 grid (as in no rooms without a path in them). At most, you only have to map out 64 rooms to know where all 10 colored rooms are and then solve the puzzle.
Two things distinguish each room:
1) The room can have a colored rune or colored orbs in it. Do not grab the colored orbs until you’ve located all 10 colored rooms. These colored rooms are important waypoints that can help you identify where you are.
2) Some exits are blocked off with rubble. One, two, or three walls can be blocked with rubble.
I recommend when plotting your map to put north at the top of your plot and pay attention to your minimap to allow you to see which direction you are going and which direction your room is orientated. Paying attention to north south east and west will help you avoid confusion.
One of the 64 rooms in the 8 by 8 grid is a transportation trap. When you enter that room you will be transported into some other randomly chosen room in the 8 by 8 grid. This room causes much confusion and frustration. Once you have found and mapped this room, do not enter it again. Common advice is to enter each room and then backtrack to the room you just left to make sure it’s the same room. If you can’t backtrack because the wall is blocked or if it’s not the same room, then you have been transported. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work also. I have been in an east/west corridor room, entered the room to the west, been randomly transported to a different room that also was connected to a different east/west corridor room. Using the backtrack one room rule, I would have thought I had not entered the transportation trap room. Backtracking two or three rooms will lessen the probability that you don’t realize you’ve entered the transportation trap room. Better yet, backtracking all the way to a colored room after entering every new room will guarantee you haven’t entered the transportation trap room. Of course, backtracking all the way to a colored room every time you explore a new room is very time consuming, so you may want to backtrack only one or two rooms and risk the confusion as it may save time in the end. Backtracking two rooms is probably a good tradeoff between saving time and risking misidentifying the transportation trap room. Once you find the transportation trap room, you can stop backtracking.
If you’re ever lost and confused (and frustrated and about to cry), simply log out and then log back in. You will then be in your original starting room. Mark your starting room when you start so you will know where you will be positioned after logging out and then back in. This is especially useful after encountering the transportation trap room.
Now here’s the confusing part that is frustrating many would be maze solvers. The 8 by 8 maze is made up of four separate 4 by 4 blocks of rooms. The connections between those 4 by 4 blocks are very complicated. When starting your maze plotting, I recommend staying inside the 8 by 8 grid and avoid crossing the outside boundaries of that 8 by 8 grid. If you cross the outside boundary, you will connect to one of three possible rooms and you won’t as yet know which of those three rooms you just moved into. To avoid confusion, don’t cross the boundary formed by the outside edge of the 8 by 8 grid until you have as much of the 8 by 8 grid mapped as you can without crossing the outside edges. I start mapping with ½ inch grid paper. My starting square is placed about 2/3rds of the way down and the 3rd square from the left. I assume this is roughly the bottom left room in the 8 by 8 grid. It doesn’t matter where you assume this room is, so you might as well assume it is the bottom left room. I mark this room with an “S” so I know it’s the starting room which I will return to if I log out and log back in. Now explore and map your first 4 by 4 block of rooms. Do not go outside your 4 by 4 block until you have mapped as much of your 4 by 4 block as you can. If your starting room forces you to go west, and you have no other choice, then change your assumption and assume your starting room is somewhere else in your 4 by 4 block. It doesn’t matter which way you map, as long as you stay inside a 4 by 4 set of rooms. Now that you’ve got as much of your 4 by 4 block mapped as you can, go to the 4 by 4 block just above your current 4 by 4 block. If there is no connection, then go to the 4 by 4 block to the right of your 4 by 4 block. Map this new 4 by 4 block without crossing it’s 4 by 4 boundaries. After the first time you cross out of your first 4 by 4 block to your second 4 by 4 block (but not including your first time), from then on anytime you cross a 4 by 4 block boundary (but not the outside edges of the 8 by 8 grid), you will enter one of two rooms. The first possibility is simply the adjacent room in your 8 by 8 grid. That is easy to understand and intuitive. The second possibility is the outside edge room that is 4 grids up or down and 4 grids left or right from the room that is the first possibility. In the illustration, this type of connection is labeled 4x4 connection. (Because if you cross this type of connection, you can move 4 rooms vertically and 4 rooms horizontally and end up in the same room.) In the picture of the solved maze, connections A, B, and F are 4x4 connections. To ease your confusion, after your first crossing from one 4 by 4 block to your second 4 by 4 block and you’re now forced to cross another 4 by 4 block inner boundary, try to choose a crossing where one of the two possible next rooms has already been mapped.
On the outside edges, you can move in an 8x4 connection like the example connections H, I, and J, or you can move in an 8x0 connection like the example connections C, D, E, and G. Of course you can also move in a 4x4 connection. I usually avoid moving across the 8 by 8 block boundaries until the end so I can more easily determine which of the 3 rooms I just moved into.
The maze resets every day, so finish your maze before the daily reset.
Good luck solving the maze, I hope I have saved some tears of frustration, and may we all meet on our Lucid Nightmares as friends.

Finished it last night after several days in Endless Halls.
All of your characters get the Mount but not all can enter the Karazhan Crypt.
Only the character that completed the quest can enter. That character doesn’t see the gates.
I tried it because I wanted to remember the gates originally.
By the way, the add-in didn’t work, it was like it wasn’t there.
I used the Endless Halls Map Maker, I was occasionally confused by the misdirection and enter the room types anyway. When I had one rune and orb left I matched the others and then ran around until I found the last orb.
I tried to use the Reddit tool but it said I was wrong regardless of what I entered.

I spent 6 hours in the maze. First stuck to turning one way. Got all but the last orb this way and then kept hitting the teleporter. Then started mapping the maze from the last rune to try to find the last orb. Still kept hitting the teleporter cuz the two ends of the teleporter looked identical and couldn't figure out exactly where the teleporter was. Lacking sleep, I started randomly wandering. Finally found the last orb and got it to the last rune by sheer luck. Then because I was in there for 6 hours and didn't sleep all night I... hearthed before touching the note. Tried going back and the maze is now a weird non-teleporty zone and I can't get back to the end with the note. Don't be like me. Don't do this sleep-deprived and forget to touch the note.

I dont want to sound like a *!@# or anything but i found that maze incredibly easy 🤣 it took me literally about 35 mins, i didnt use any addons or pen and paper, i just mapped it out in my head. My friend was struggling so i even logged into her account and did it for her in about 25 mins. Im good with maps and directions IRL maybe thats what helped me, feeling very lucky right now though might go buy myself a lottery ticket hehe.
P.S i didnt find any teleporter rooms at all on both accounts.

If you cannot get the gnomeregan entrance portal to work, check that you are not on the gnome heritage armor questline and finish that first.

For the last, 7th clue (endless maze) - I just entered and randomly run around for 2 hours and completed it. It's just an assumption of mine but I do believe the teleporter room is a bad-luck protection implemented by blizzard.
This means - if you have spent 15-20min without taking/delivering an orb, it will either teleport you to a room with orb OR if you have been carrying an orb for the last 15-20min it will teleport you to the needed room.
Otherwise I was just extremely lucky, but I do read there are many people out there who followed the same strategy and finished within 2hours or so.
Good luck! Amazing guide, 5/5 stars!

How I got the mount:
- spent 2 hours doing puzzles,
- spent 4 hours doing maze,
- spent 99% of my sanity at the maze.
I wish you strong will and good luck with the maze, may you get it in less time than I did and I mean it, because if I knew back at start what it's gonna cost me, I'd prepare myself, mentally. Smh. :D

I didn't have a problem until the maze. The tip to hug the wall on the right worked for all but the last orb. I was then forced to map it by hand which didn't help much either. I can tell you which I didn't read anywhere it starts you off in a room and from there every room looks the same except which doors are blocked. I also tried the tip (on my last orb) of logging out and logging back in and thought I messed up when I passed runes I had already completed. I found the last orb after logging out/in and then found purple and yellow runes. I then continued and found my last one thinking I would need to start over but I could tell something was different and when I went into the next room I was out at the scroll. Read scroll then climbed the stairs out and was dumped out in a large foo dog waterspout. It was neat so I left a pic.

For the maze, use this tool
Endless Halls Helper
and enter one line for each path between two landmarks (e.g. red rune to blue rune)
Eventually it will draw the map for you and make it trivial to complete. Do not complete any runes until you map all of them

For anyone still doing this in 2024 and beyond, a few points from my experience.
This guide is fantastic, follow it as best you can.
The maze is not covered extensively because it is random like they say, this is without a doubt the hardest part of the whole thing, so a few pointers:
- Lucid Nightmare Helper addon is no longer working, so 2 options.
1) Run around until you get it done - I have seen people say they did this, and got it done without too much trouble. I didn't do it that way because with my luck, I'd still be going right now!
2) however you like to do it, pen and paper, or some other tool (I used Excel! ) map it out!
If you map it out, remember:
- use your mini-map to get your N-S-E-W orientation right, and make sure to start your map with North being up!
- as mentioned in the guide, there is ONE teleport room that will teleport you to another random room. To know when you have hit that room, as suggested in the guide, when entering a new room, go back to the room you came from to confirm it is the same room (look at possible exits for the room, if it is NOT the same, you have just been teleported!)
- once you get teleported, stop, log out, log back in - you will be placed back into your starting room. Now just avoid the teleport room and you no longer have to keep going back to check the room you just came from!
- do not take any orbs to their runes until you have mapped them all out. Once I found everything, it took me about 5-10 mins to finish from there.
Good luck!

Dont use a map or anything like that, you will loose your mind that way. put a movie or a show on and auto run till you're done. once you reach an orb grab it and keep running till you find its rune, you'll eventually get it just don't give up and change orbs. i started maze around 440am and finished at 6am. Best advice is try as little as possible on which direction you choose to save yourself from going crazy just go whichever way feels right

Fantastic guide, thank you for all the hard work putting it together on top of solving this hidden puzzle.
Everything was easy except the maze. Sadly, the maze addon is out of date and no longer works and I had no graph paper so I downloaded a graph paper app and started manually, slowly, and clumsily mapping my routes. At 2am after getting 3 orbs to their runes I hit the transporter trap, got mixed up, and just completely gave up mapping... Started running randomly and in about 15 minutes had the remaining two colors matched up... with a huge sigh of relief I flew over to the crypt and picked up my cool purple pony.
I'm a little sad there's no achiev for this, I feel like their should be! Now to sleep... zzzzz

* Got out of the instance, reset it and started again with the
Github tool
, finished in
72 minutes

The Lucid Nightmare Helper addon worked for me when I deleted and replaced the CurseForge addon folder contents with the GitHub repo files. The files there are more up-to-date than the version on CurseForge.
