If OW2 is a PvE thing, I'm in. I usually only play OW when they make those PvE events anyway. Making a whole new OW that's just the same, updated but the same thing doesn't make any sense. It's not like the game graphics are bad or the engine is old or something like that.
They can still go with the last option and just transform Overwatch into Overwatch 2. Basically by purchasing OW2, your OW would become OW2 and open new parts of the menu for singleplayer and maybe adjust the design a bit. Without purchasing OW2, you would still have OW as it is now. Sounds pretty simple.
I'm all for pve in overwatch, but the left 4 dead stuff is quite disappointing. I was hoping they'd put a little more thoughts into this. Taking this way is a bit too obvious to me.
I'd say there's a pretty decent chance that this isn't a whole new game. Just look at HotS, Blizz released a 2.0 version which was an overhaul rather than a new game entirely. The same thing could be happening here.
With them bring out overwatch on the switch soon, and then releasing overwatch 2 as a standalone game would be a really bad move. It would course even more backlash and boycotting, lets hope its an expansion type thing. I would hate to see another avoidable disaster from them,
I always *wanted* to be into Overwatch, but I dislike shooters and pvp-focused games. :p A PVE version of Overwatch would probably get me to try again.
If it was PVE I'd give it a shot, the game itself looks fun, but the PVP elements are a complete turn off. We'll see, I'm hopeful.
Can't wait for Friday evening :-)
Sure would be nice if stuff could just be officially announced these days without having it spoiled either by actual leaks or all of these lucky guesses and 'rumors' that people throw around constantly. It's only gotten worse over time and I'm getting pretty sick of it.
Hoping it's a free expansion. If not... the orange on white, (more random conspiracy stuff), and... Blizzard's announcing Half-Life 3?
Playing Classic WOW made me realise how little I really care about the absurd amount of collectibles I left behind in retail. Bring on the sequels if it means better gameplay!
I think this is going to be a WoW expansion type deal. Everyone gets upgraded to Overwatch 2.0 for free, with whatever QoL/under the hood improvements Blizzard wants to provide to everyone. Then if you want the PVE content you need to buy the new game (and it'll probably include exclusive skins, etc). Some people are worrying about the talent idea too but I assume that will follow the same process the RTS games do - the talents are PVE only. Everyone gets the same abilities in PVP.
meh
Of course they are gonna drop a OW2, they gotta hit the reset button on all the cosmetic stuff so you can pay for it all over again.
despite this I think/hope we all know they want this to be separate so we have to pay again. This time, im going to wait a while longer afterthe hype has subsided.
Sad.
I can't imagine them making a hard sequel after they invested so much money into building up the e-sports scene of Overwatch. My guess is that Overwatch 2 is essentially a PvE-only expansion set for Overwatch. If PvP is what you care about, then you can continue playing the existing game as is without any additional purchases. New PvP maps and heroes will still be introduced to the base game for free as usual. But if you buy Overwatch 2, you gain access to a story campaign, the talent system which is only active in the story campaign, and some exclusive skins/cosmetics (some for simply purchasing Overwatch 2, others for completing various objectives).
This could end up like what happened with Fortnite right now, and just builds on top of the base game like an expansion, or just one giant update that basically resets the game. Still...if ESPN is the one leaking it, it might be related to esports.
