You could get a special chicken pet from one of these chickens in Westfall. You can do this "secret" quest as follows...

Head to Sal-deans' Farm in Westfall and find a chicken. Begin by doing the "Chicken Dance" emote by targeting the chicken and typing "/chicken". Be patient as it could take 100 times or more. Soon you'll see the message, 'Chicken looks at you quizzically. Maybe you should inspect it'. Accept the quest and purchase the special chicken feed from Farmer Saldean. Return to the chicken and type "/cheer" before feeding the chicken. Do this right and the chicken will lay an egg. This egg is your new pet, a prairie chicken.

If you /love this critter, it adds towards one of the new Wrath of the Lich King Achievements called "To all the squirrels I've loved before".

I found that you can do the quest, like, 3 times before the chicken goes back to Neutrality. I had 16 extra eggs and went to Goldshire... only to realize that they were BoP! /bonk, lol. Seriously, LOOK AT THE BO_ BEFORE DOING CRAZY STUFF LIKE THAT! lol =D

i just completed this. william saladeen sells the feed in brill. he is next to the blacksmith building where you get things like weapons and the like. dreanna was right with the macro. just type
/chicken
/chicken till you fill it up, take your icon button and put it in an action bar and keep clicking it when focoused on a chicken, and walla, "westfal chicken has been added"

Horde: Find a chicken in Brill then /chicken it, accept quest, go to William Saldean, and buy Special Chicken Feed, go back to the chicken type /cheer and you can finish your quest and loot the egg...

When I did this quest I only had to /chicken it once (patch 3.3), and it already offered the quest. Seems like you dont need to do it this often any more.

Not listed but you can find a lot of chickens at wetland farms and you can find cow,rabbit and ram at same place.Reachable with some slow fall potion tricks.Hopefully with cata we can easly reach there.

There is no way you could kill a chicken in one hit the part where he turns into giant banana and destroys the whole town didnt even happen.

Has anyone confirmed this? I am seriously scared! I am never going to go near a chicken again...

In Orgrimmar, outside on the right side of Grommash Hold, there are three chickens that spawn. Doing /love to these chickens does not count towards To All The Squirrels I've Loved Before. Maybe this is because they are level 5, but I've tried on two characters and this doesn't work.

Apparently as of patch 4.0.6, there are no longer any Chickens in Brill (Tirisfal Glades - Horde). This may be due to Brill no longer looking like an Alliance village, and now looks like an Undead mad scientist gravetown. William Saldean sells the Special Chicken Feed here for Horde. Similar other critters appear to be missing as well. Animal experiments anyone? KERZAP!

*After scouting around outside of town for a bit, I've found one lonely Chicken at coords 58.80, 50,59 patrolling a rectangular pattern around some gravestones (NOT in the graveyard itself, but just outside of town).

**A second solo Chicken is strutting it's stuff near the zeppelin tower (61.80, 57.50) on the side facing Brill. No other Chickens around Brill itself.

So basically find one of the Chickens in any zone, type /chicken at it a bunch of times until the text says "Chicken looks up at you quizzically. Perhaps you should inspect it?" leading you into the CLUCK! quest to get your free Chicken Egg pet. It is advised to buy one (1) Special Chicken Feed from the Farmer before starting this quest if away from Brill or Westfall (if Alliance), as you can do this freebie quest in any zone with a Chicken. Once you have the quest + feed, type /cheer at the Chicken before turning in your quest. The Chicken will get an odd look at drop an egg for you to loot the new companion. Enjoy!

*Update: Still valid info as of patch 4.2.2 & again just pre-4.3. Method used is Hunter Tracking and use of macro to /target chicken, pausing to allow random mobs to load, carefully going over all of the land around the Brill village, to the range of Undercity and surrounding circular area near the lake/bridge.

Just as a special note and to clear up any confusion, the above quest advice does not work on any Mechanical Chicken/Battle Chicken//Chicken Escapee//// nor the new s found in Orgrimmar/Stormwing nor anything else that does not plainly say "Chicken". To prevent NPC animals from killing one, typing the /cheer emote at the chicken a few times turns it friendly green and it cannot be killed by other NPCs.

**It is strange that someone would downrate a still valid posting concerning the Horde chickens of Brill (or limits thereof), as it doesn't discuss chickens found elsewhere in Tirisfal Glades. The quest item seller is located in Brill (Special Chicken Feed anyone?), hence the post is to assist any Horde (and even Alliance) wanting to complete this quest quickly without the need to farm, ahem, farms for stray chickens. Especially since that still valid post contains VERY helpful links for the quest itself, hint hint. =)

I just found chickens in Theramore, so there *are* chickens in Kalimdor. Just... very sparsely.

Also in Northern Barrens, but aalallll the way up north east edge. Annoying.

if you do /chicken around 50-75 times the chicken will have a "!" above his head then you receieve a quest saying to get the "Special Chicken Feed"
you get that from farmer saldean in westfall
then be sure to target the chicken and type /cheer
then the "?" will you'll receieve your chicken egg!

Make sure to target the chicken in Duskwood before spamming the chicken macro guys, I stood around for hours! XD It seems any chicken in Duskwood ill do, theres a nice little penned area just south of the town by a barn, can't miss it.

I had cross-faction traded alliance goods, like Special Chicken Feed, to my tauren through a controlled cross-faction trade through the auction house in Booty Bay. I haven't tried to do the chicken quest with my tauren yet, but he has the Special Chicken Feed in his inventory. There's no other way for Horde to buy this chicken food.

It's not just duskwood chickens that do it, I bought feed at saldean's farm in westfall and made the quest work with a chicken right there.

Me and my girlfriend just tried it today, made a macro for /chicken spammed it for about 10 seconds and both finished the quest in under 30 seconds.

You cannot get this quest as a Horde ( I am Tauren). The guards in Brill will kill any chicken with the quest, apparently, they become Alliance friendly. I had to make an alliance in a second account, complete the quest and loot the reward with my Tauren. The alliance toon loses the quest reward though.
