If your leveling your cooking, and you need these. I find the best place is Redridge Mountains, at Lake Everstill.

Horde can fish these up right in Sun Rock Retreat. About a 50% drop from the pond in the middle of the town.

Cooking these is a great way to level cooking and fishing. I just fished in the Stormwind cannals until I reached 150. I then had enough fish to level my cooking to 150 as well.

I found the waters in ashenvale to be the best since I fished up about 10 in a row then would catch a different fish then another few of these. These are very useful for leveling cooking from 150-175.

I was leveling fishing and cooking at the same time and was in sun rock retreat. i fished up about 100 raw bristle wisker catfish. I got these 63% of the time according to fishing buddy.

Can confirm that Redrige is a good spot to fish these. Got a Darkwood fishing pole and a 19 pound catfish to in a 30 min fishing grind.

Why isn't there written skill requirement? People should really add that because there are re-tards like me, that don't know if its best to go and kill crabs and make https://www.cuckhead.com/cata/item=2683, or fish some kitty fish. Anyway, according to cummins (And wowhead) they really is good for cooking.

I don't know why it doesn't show it, but the river between ashenvale and azshara seems to have almost 100% bristle whisker catfish. I fished up quite a few there once. Just go to warsong lumber camp in ashenvale and to the river coast, or take the back exit out of Orgrimmar and go over the bridge.

Fished for these in the Forlorn Cavern in Ironforge, to see what percentage I would get. I caught 100 fish, 24 of which were Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish, so approximately 1/4 of the fish you catch here will likely be a Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish.

Also caught 58 Raw Longjaw Mudsnappers and 18 Raw Brilliant Smallfish.

my experience, best place to fishing this in western plaguelands, couse u can find raw mithril head trout too (cooking from 175)

I think the best place to fish these up is the river in Hillsbrad Foothills, for no other reason than it's relaxing. I'm surrounded by big trees, there's a goofy little baby horse and a couple rabbits and turtles running around me, and I've caught 28 in a row so far.

Want to share my 2 cents.

I found a lake that is not marked on the map in Ashenvale (see for location). At this lake I got basically 80% Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish and 20% Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper .A very good spot to fish if you want to level cooking from 50-125.

This fish is common to fish up in Stormwind, Orgrimmar and most level 1-35 areas. The best droprate will be in level ~20-22 zones.

Maybe things have changed since Cataclysm, but I just spent 2 10 min. sesssions in a row trying to fish in Ashenvale.

gear = basic noob fishing pole and Nightcrawlers (+50) fishing

session 1, 10 minutes, went from 55 unmodded fishing skill to 100 fishing skill.
location: the lake just south of Silverwind Refuge ( I am Horde)
take after 10 mins, 45 skill pts.
13 Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish
16 Longjaw Mud Snapper
8 pcs assorted junk.

session 2, Southfury River
10 mins. same gear, skill lvl went from 100 to 128
catch
8 Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish
28 Longjaw Mud Snapper
1 pc junk

All in all, much better in the lake south of Silverwind imo. Some of the posts below are old and pre-cata, so figured I would update this info... good luck

I went to the Innkeeper in Ironforge to grab some of this kind of fish to lvl up cooking and found that this vendor does NOT

sell this type of fish at this location anymore.. Bummer...

I stumbled on this place by accident, just out of curiosity.

The northern pond in Astranaar, fished and the only two types I caught, on just about every cast with a skill of 75,

3 to 1 ratio.

Used the Blump Family Fishing Pole (+3 to fishing) and Aquadynamic Fish Lens (+50 for 10 minutes)

I fished in Astranaar, Ashenvale for half an hour and caught 100 fish.
68% were Bristle Whisker Catfish
32% were Longjaw Mud Snapper

So for 2/3 odds on Bristle Whisker Catfish this was an easy and safe place to do it!

For Horde, the small pond in the middle of Sun Rock Retreat really is the easiest place I have found to fish these up in large numbers, especially if you are trying to get your cooking skill up early in the leveling process. I used to fish them up off of the small bridges in Ashenvale, but then you had to contend with the occasional wandering underwater mob. Sun Rock is much better for "Netflix and chill" fishing when you are in your high teens/low 20s.

You can get the recipe to cook them most easily in Ratchet.
