Answering to the outcries of hunters, this talent is one of a few new talents in the Marksmanship tree that addresses the spec's mana consumption and underpowered damage output issues. Previously, Marksmanship hunters would easily burn through their mana supply quicker than Aspect of the Viper could regenerate, only to come nowhere close to the damage output of a Beast Mastery build. This talent, if used in conjunction with Efficiency and Rapid Recuperation can certainly alleviate some of those mana issues, though whether or not these talents will allow the tree to achieve the same damage and efficiency as a Beast Master is something that we will have to wait and see.

This wants to be a good talent. Unfortunately, though, it has a couple noticeable problems with it:
1) Only proccing off of Steady shot - While that's possibly the best ability to proc off of, it still doesn't mean it will proc as often as even Improved Aspect of the Hawk (if we had 2 Steadies to every Auto, they would be even, assuming I can still do math).
2) Low proc rate - 15% isn't very high for a talent like this. It reminds me a little of Master Tactician, and not in a good way.
Note that if you want to get the most out of this talent, you should use Chimera Shot, as it is both more expensive and harder hitting than others.
Edit: Updated this due to significant changes to the talent (adding Chimera, primarily). It working with Chimera shot obviously improves it by a good deal, although I'm still not convinced that this does enough.

I like the design of this talent, similar to the Focused state that an Enhancement Shaman can get for their Shocks. The problem with the talent though seems to be that, in the two days I've been testing Marksmanship, it's proc rate has been fairly abysmal.
If they buffed the proc chance, or changed it to include Auto Shot, this talent would become very strong for Marksmanship Hunters.

Is there any buff icon or graphic (like for instance when improved aspect of the Hawk procs) to let you know when you are going to get your damage bonus?
Knowing that next chimera shot is going to be over 100 mana cheaper and be the one with the damage bonus would easily stop me throwing this away on an arcane shot or Aimed shot.

I think the proc rate is okey, but it should effect the steady shot itself too.
And it isnt for just ur next shot, it has 10-15sec (i dint know now exactly) buff .

My question would be: does the +damage component of this talent count towards the Serpent Sting damage done by Chimera Shot? In other words, if you have Serpent Sting up on the target, then proc this talent, does it also add 12% of the 40% of Serpent Sting's damage for a total of 44.8% of Serpent Sting's damage?

So my answer will be: It it (Chimera+Serp.Sting DMG)*1.2
I wonder it is worthy for PvP. On BG`s it can be very usefull, but for arena? I think far less effective but still good.

there are better choices for pvp, i hardly find time to use a steady unless i was BM, besides in pvp you'd have to cycle through your stronger and instant shots in before you even decide to use steady, and even then you'd probably be on the run
i'd say skip it for pvp, wild quiver is a better choice in the talents on their teir (as well as several others before that you may or may not have picked up in MM or even further into BM/SV)

We just had a short discussion about this in the guild's chat, so I might as well pass on what we concluded it with.
His unbuffed stats, with and activated left him at 6'608 attackpower, 58.63% critical hit chance and 1408 armor penetration points (100.6%).
A friend of mine had tested out the proc rates up against shots fired and time spent in combat. He and I both agreed that spending about three minutes of punting the dummies should help us determine the proc rates and uptime. We ended up with a 15% proc (as the talent states), and a 17% uptime.
The damage delt by his at total was at 286'000 damage, where as the number of fired shots were 18 (sixteen crits, two hits). This leaves the average damage per shot at about 15'800 damage.
The talent proced 11 times durring the three minute fight, meaning about 60% of the shots fired gained from the talent-proc.
We estimated the overall damage gain from 3/3 in this talent to be at about 26'000 to 27'000 damage, or about 140 to 150 damage per second (which again would add up to about 35 dps in a three minutes fight through ).
In the end, he using a spreadsheet, calculated that the 150 static attackpower gain from the would be more benificial than the ~140 dps increase from 3/3 .
It ended up with him moving two points from and 1 from to 3/3 .
tl;dr -
This means, for a single hunter, and with ideal conditions, should come out at about 15 dps increase. And ontop of that, for every other hunter in the raid with the regular raiding spec, you add 130 raid-dps.
Disclaimer: I do not want to say that my math is flawless, and I am aware of the fact that rng and movement may play a huge role on the output, as well as the exact ' damage. The above statement(s) are based on the numbers we were given and the experience we have had with said talent. Please do not quote the calculations from the above wall'o'text and claim that these are hard facts, but rather use them as a guideline.

Please explain to me how you can improve that which is perfected.
At the time these calculations were made my friend was already in full 'BiS' gear, and he still is, if you do not count the Halion Heroic boots.
Switching out the boots, placing him in full BiS gear would only increase his stats by;

13 arp
13 int
Even after switching out an aditional 20 armor pen. gem with an 20 agility gem, the benefits of ISS would still be undercut by the total benefit of the other two hunters scaling with the .
(Their regular raid setup includes two to three hunters).

This has a MAJOR design flaw when standing at or close-to max range to a target.
The descriptions says "2 steady shots in a row" to activate the buff. The more accurate truth is;
its the order of the shots that HIT the target which matters.
. The problem is that Steady Shot (and I believe Cobra Shot as well) fires the arrow at a slower speed than any instant cast. This leads to the following scenario:
Steadyshot -> Steadyshot -> Arcane shot.
Since steadyshot is a cast, and assuming you have not cooldowns up that decrease its casting time below the GCD, the queued Arcane Shot virtually fires off at about the same time. Due to the faster traveltime, Arcane shot actually hits EARLIER than the second steady shot, and therefor you do NOT receive the "Improved Steady Shot" Buff as the order of casts that hit the target was: SS, AS, SS.
In order to deal with that, try to shift your focus management a little so you can unload 3 Steady shots without hitting the focus cap before using other shots. This should do the trick until they fix this :)

This may be considered nitpicking:
The haste proc does not occur after two steady shots in a row. It occurs after an even number of steady shots in a row.
If you cast (for example) three steady shots, the proc only occurs after the second steady shot although the second and third shot are also "two steady shots in a row".

You're correct for the most part, but from what I've seen in programming, I believe that it works more like this (this isn't very accurate coding, I'm just trying to illustrate how the game's mechanics would likely behave, though I may be incorrect):
If player casts Steady Shot
Check SS flag
If true
----Clear SS flag
----Apply ISS
Else
----Set SS flag
Else
Clear SS flag
So basically, when you cast steady shot, I think the game checks to see if a marker has been placed saying that the last ability the hunter used was SS. If there's a marker, the game clears it, then applies the ISS buff. If there's no marker, then the game places one. If you cast anything other than SS, the game clears the marker if there is one.

Being new to a hunter, I wasn't sure about this, but the haste doesn't only affect auto-shoot speed (which I assumed is all it did since the talent only noted "ranged attack speed"), but it also affects the cast time of cast-time shots such as Steady Shot and Aimed Shot.

I'm curious as to why this buff doesn't improve focus regen, when you can see the haste % go up when it activates, and the haste description reads "Increases attack speed and focus regeneration".
Using
Rapid Fire
(untalented) increases focus regen, so why doesn't this buff?

Seems they fixed this; improved steady shot now seems to proc on firing, not on hitting the target.

Why I don't find this talent included in most talent build for BM or Surv?
15% is A LOT.
or maybe it doesn't stack with Focus Fire in BM?
I checked some build guide around the net and found none that included this in non-MM build.
It only occurred to me when I was inspecting someone on my server, and even he only put 2 points in this talent.
Can someone explain to me?
