I was able to complete it just now (9/4 around 9:00 pm). The summoning totem was where it was supposed to be next to the green circle.

I was able to complete it by swimming about 50 yards above after clicking the totem. Could of just been coincidence and it just randomly decide to work but worth a try.

I just did the quest on live. First 2 tries, he didn't rise, I stood by the totem.

3rd try however, I activated the totem and moved a good 20-30yrds UP. He rose up, I whooped him, quest done.

Do not stand on the ground after you activate the totem. He aggros you while underground.

Killed him without issue just now.
Clicked totem, swam up a little ways, killed him in a few shots.

Stayed in the area for a bit and no one seems to have had any difficulties yet, so maybe it's fixed now.

Also: beware the black circle. ;D

Just killed him, so it works on my server at least.

Just wanted to add that you might want to click the totem without a mount, then swim a bit up to "drag" him out of his cave. Tried several times with clicking the totem with my mount, then swim up, but it seemed to be stuck on loading then.

Hm, on my realm, the totem is unclickable... There is crowd of people gathered wondering what went wrong. I opened a ticket, but it takes hours/days to get GM response...

-Don't summon him mounted
-Don't be on the ground when you summon him.

Right click the totem "swimming/hovering" above it, when the purple lazers appear, run into them and he will spawn.

If the totem isn't there or you failed the first time, abandon the quest, relog and accept the quest again.

After I died a ton of times, I realized this quest suffers from don't stand in the fire syndrome. Avoid standing in the black smokey circle he casts... not that we shouldn't have learned that lesson already. =)

I have no problem with him rising out of the hole. However, once he's out, I can't kill him. I'm a rogue, I'm standing right in front of him stabbing him, and it says I'm out of range(I've already killed the other me). And he kills me in seconds with the shadowbolts. This is a very frustrating quest.

Tried it twice, the second time he never even spawned, and the rock protrusions stayed, so the totem was inaccessible.

Okay, Got out of ranged 3 times when I tried him as a goblin rogue 82.
Now here is the important part:
Swim about 2 feet below him and start DPSing, like many of the large mobs in this area you can't dps at body level but at their feet. This guy has a HUGE case of that.

Better hope you're not melee. There seems to be a one yard area where I had to stand to not be out of range. It doesn't help that he'll cast those shadow rings where you're standing either.

I tried this quest today. It's just like Herald Volazj in the Old Kingdom intance. He will summon a copy of yourself. Kill it and Ick'thys will die too. Once you kill your copy Ichk'thys will be almost dead. Just finish him.

This quest is insane for melee players. Im a ret pally and my attack range is so dam small i have to sit in the black circles just to attack. If i dont i just get spammed with his ranged attacks or silenced by "my other self" and wrecked. Between the nature damage and physical damage i spend most of the fight healing myself. He also seems to crit alot or something because i go from full health to almost nothing many times during the first part of the fight. Five tries now and i have yet to even get him halfway down.

@Eure - I killed the other me 3 different times in a single fight and Ichk'thys never seemed to be affected

I thank all of you for you help I totally did this one today. I am a hunter so I have the advantage of ranged weapons. Stay above the black cloud and fire away. I did have to move up a couple of times and did die once doing this.

I have tried to do this inumerable times. As a worgen Warrior I have to be right on top of the thing to do any damage at all and the thing has killed me over and over. Killing my mirror image does nothing to slow the mob down. All I can do now is hope to group with someone and do this. It is driving me crazy.

Being a rogue, I had lots of trouble killing this guy. Died a bunch of times, then tried the whole handy dandy "do it from behind" rogue tactic. Ick'thys has trouble hitting you if he can't see you. He also turns slow, so just keep hitting his backside and turning him in a circle.

I killed this one so fast as a DK that I had a nasty shock when I started bringing other characters to have a go and died horribly and humiliatingly quite a lot of times. Potatopatrol's advice is excellent whether or not you're a rogue. Ignore your pet or elemental or whatever (if you've got one), ignore the fake you, and just keep dodging behind him, hitting him once or perhaps twice, then running behind him again. He should then go down quite fast.

first time it was bugged, then i dropped teh quest and re-took it, i waited for like 2 minutes then i found the totem again and the boss came out from the teh cracked earth and i killed him, easy quest

I must be doing something wrong -- lvl 83 Death Knight -- been killed 4 times trying above methods with no luck. He can turn as fast as I can, and killing the "other me" doesn't help. Worse yet, I saved this quest for last, and since I can't seem to do it, can't get any follow-on quests. CRAP!

Worked completely fine for me. 1st attempt, he came.

He will talk for a few seconds, then spawn a copy of yourself. The copy itself is pretty easy, so when you beat it start attacking the other guy.

This is VERY difficult for melee classes - you HAVE to kill your copy or get whittled to death (killing it seems to have no effect on him) and you HAVE to dodge the "void zone" (a black disk) which he spams and which deals huge shadow damage and it is VERY hard to get into melee range. Even when you do get close he moves and suddenly you can't hit him again. And he's so big when he spawns your clone (which he also spams - I've had as many as 3 at a time) you can't see it and don't realize you're taking double damage again. I don't know what blizz had in mind but I recommend working in groups.

Can not, can not, CAN NOT do this quest! Level 82 Human mage, everything seems to be going fine then he starts doing LOADS of damage all at once (and no, I'm not standing in the fire)! Any other tips/suggestions?

Is anyone experiencing when the monster arises, so does an image of yourself? So, in essence, you are fighting the boss and yourself. Interested to know if anyone else had this happen to them. Oh, btw ... am dying every time.

The trick with standing at his feet and dpsing him down worked like a charm. I even ingnored the other me and had no problem at all.

I find that it doesn't work when you move away from the totem or are floating or try to mount. Try just sitting there on the ground next to the totem, maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed to work for me.

As a Retadin yes this is a bit difficult but its doable. You have to keep swimming away from the black sludge that appears. But don't swim too far. It took me three times after dieing to finally get him. Used AR and Zealotry but still had to heal myself a few times and kill myself cause the other me kept stunning me.

This is almost impossible at 82 with a Rogue. Get a friend. No way out of the black goop without going out of range.

EDIT: Finally got him. You should stand underneath his black goop of death circle, hitting his legs. Also, use all your combo points for recuperate, while popping both combat readiness and evasion right when you enter combat. Pop Preparation to kill the cd on evasion after it's done cuz your'e gonna need it twice, but even then it was a near miss. I had to go through a Rogue's Draught potion as well. Also, I had myself buffed with an agi scroll, instant on main, deadly on off, well fed stamina and agi +90 buff...all of that and it was still virtually impossible.

On top of everything else, this is yet another one of those fights that you can't begin in stealth, so you can forget about ambush or garrote. Shadowdance is useless even though he is susceptible to Cheap Shot, it really won't make any difference.

I didn't have a problem killing him as 83 druid cat, but i had problems looting him. First time i killed him, it gave me message, no loot. so I tried it again, then loot was greyed out and unable to loot him. Abandoned and tried again, same thing, can't loot.

Turns out I was not killing my double, just him. I abandoned and tried again. this time killed my double first and then him. And then could loot quest item.

Erunak casts a little shadow bolt at you when you accept this quest. However, it moves extremely slow. You can outrun it easily. I swam all over the zone and then waited. Even though it disappeared from view, it was still following. It took about 5 minutes for it to reach me.

After I had summoned him I saw an Obsidium vein and decided to go mine it while he appeared, trouble is he didnt... So I went to go do another quest (yes I had tried dropping and regetting, wasnt working), when I came back the totem was there. My guess it resets after a few minutes of inactivity if it has been activated, try logging out and going on another toon for a few, when you log back in the totem will be there.

Edit: Killed it NP as a level 83 Ret Paladin, I ignored my copy as well and I could loot him, so I'm guessing the bugs are server only

First clik the totem run to the green circle and w8. he shold come up from the ground if you do that.

he is making a copy of you to fight at his site and makes black circles dont stand in them exept if you want to miss health :D.

Agreed. Also a ret pally, I was having no problems until my other self started spamming Hammer of Justice whilst the the boss put up his black circle. HoJ came so often I barely had time to move. After 2 failures, I used Lay on Hands when I got down to about 15%, but still came away with only about 50% health. If I could spam HoJ the way my evil self was, there would be no class but pallies in pvp.

Even as a lvl 84 arms warrior I almost died! I have 72khp unbuffed, went down to 20khp until I killed him. You have to be close to hit him and its hard when you have to swim away when he does that black oil stuff and then swim back close to him in order to hit him.

The black platform rings don't go away; however, if there are so many that circling the target only puts you into other rings, you can increase/decrease elevation to get out of their AoE's.

Also, I don't know if it was hotfixed since the last post here, but if the totem is not there, it's because someone just used it and it needs to respawn.

Edit: I died several times and not once did I have to abandon the quest and a couple times, the totem was not there. It respawned and I was at it again.

STAY OUT OF BLACK CIRCLES!

If you can, use DPS and self heal. Died 3 times till I got wise that it was okay to pause and self heal, then start fighting again. Fought and killed myself twice before end of fight. No glitches.

ok, this is what worked for me on my level 82 BE frost mage. (Have at least one Mythical Healing Potion in your bag) Summon him and back away to the edge of the rubble the comes up with him. As soon as he becomes a viable target use mirror image and just start DPSing the crap out of him from ground level. When the black stuff appears move in closer. When your health drops to 50% take the potion and just keep up the DPS. I never bothered with my double just ignored him and worked on the big guy.

Just make sure that if he dies close to the totem not to click it accidentally, I did that and summoned him right back and died. I then did the same thing as above to kill him, except didn't use mirror image the second time and still got him down.

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but it at least worked for me. Good Luck.

I took this quest but i do 't manage to kill him.....i do awoid the grey circles and i do kill the copys first....still he manage to kill me easily....i'm a lv 83 mage...any tips for how i can manage to do this quest?

This quest is still bugged 2 weeks before 4.2

edit: after abandoning and retaking the quest 5 times I got it to work, like other ppl said: right after you activate the totem, go up. If you go up too late it won't work.

ive done this twice now i did it on my paladin at lvl 83 died first time as i aggro'd him on the ground and spent to much time bothering with the other me . as my unholy dk i swam above totem clicked it then gradually started swimming straight up killed him that fast i didnt even see another version of me appear. just keep spamming death strike whenever its available and he will die very easy . id say swim up about 35 yards and as a dk u can deathgrip him off of the ground and away from black circle

Someone failed to mention that while fighting him, you end up also fighting two or three versions of yourself. This is even AFTER I swam up a ways. Anyone else have this problem?

Did it on the first try. The only thing weird i saw was my health bar in top being in half, but my health bar over my head showed me almost dead... it was weird, but killed him in the end :D

Just killed this guy 5 times with no problems. Haven't been able to figure how to loot him. I've tried all parts of his body , inside and out, and no joy. He dissapears so fast, I havent yet got the loot icon to even light up , it just stays dark. Guess I'll have to keep trying

Another quest which was a nightmare. The key thing as a for me was to hit the mob at his feet and not have a face to face fight. He is on 82k health so was easy for me after that!

Third time's a charm!

I half read the recommendations before starting this. Figured I'd wipe being a level 82 Frost Mage with fairly crappy gear.
I was giving up on it but scanned through the comments one more time and saw tadyll's suggestions.
Swim back from the rubble mass and up when he starts to rise. Then when he’s in in play use mirror image and ice lance the crap out of him.
Ha... He didn't even get 20 percent damage on me before he went down and my elemental didn’t even die.. lol
No bandages or health potion needed during... Just an adept elixir before attacking him, adding a low 24 crit and intel was the only thing I had.
YaY for making it super easy... some days I hate being a clothie... laughs

This quests rewards a rather useful trinket worth questing for. However before you do so, be aware that you will need to do a couple of quests to open the route making this one available. Erunak Stonespeaker will simply not be at the above coordinates, where he will eventually give the quest once having completed the pre-quests. I believe one has to complete the quests inside Nespirah, that then takes you to a string from Legion's Nest and only after that Erunak will be at the spot as indicated on this thread just below the rock in Abyssal Depths... Happy questing!
