This was the obvious and correct response. The whole point of providing additional details to the advanced combat log that aren't available with interface API (some of which have been explicitly protected or removed from the in-game API) was so that information couldn't be used for real time decision making and displays, e.g., AVR or the Archimonde line display.if you expected Blizzard to turn a blind eye to functionality that they specifically removed from the game, you were delusional.
Overlays aren't new, we used them in ICC.
man, I just want tank evoker
Weird how when it was Overwolf and their ad-providing overlay, Blizzard modified WoW to enable Overwolf's functionality. Imagine if they hadn't - you'd log into the game, pick some addons in your interactive overlay, and then have to exit the game to get them to show up. So what'd Blizzard do? They modified WoW right around that time to enable the game to see new addons if you do /reload.How convenient! If you're advertisers like Overwolf's customers, that is.But now that the overlays were going to benefit the players, suddenly we're being reminded of sections and paragraphs of the TOS. Hey, does that mean Overwolf is banned? Please say yes. Sike! We all know Blizzard wouldn't do that!tl;dr: Blizzard's fault Cry about it, be smug about others crying about it, doesn't matter. The source of the problem is and will always be Blizzard.
I don't care about the overlay stuff, but if the upcoming combat log "changes" will lead to WCL losing functionality (like the replay feature and other useful stuff), it's a loss to the game.I hope it's "just" a delay of writing the combat log to the disk so it can't be live tracked, but I fear the worst..
Good, now ban DPS meters. Ban parses. Ban DBM. Ban all addons (make the ones that help blind/deaf people an option in the actual game.) Stop making overly complicated fights. They do it in Final Fantasy and that game is going very strong still. Like it or not, the true 'competitive' scene is actually a very small percentage of players in WoW. The age of the sweater is over. The time of the casual has come.
they should release combat log information after the fight is over and develop an in-game boss mode
Wait how were the first 5 posts on this thread acting like it's disappointing they're taking action on this blatant cheatingsome of y'all are ridiculous and the reason why blizzard should ignore player feedback and just do what they think is right, That's how we got that situation before you know.
Beside from updating the combat logs and the EULA, I am pretty sure Blizzard will also update Warden to identify processes which access the combat logs. Each file handle (including those on the combat logs) belongs to a process ID, so that would be a very simple way of cheat detection.
Anyone ranting about this have to be new to the game. This wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last time. WCL talking about that overlay immediately gave me deja vu, and this isn't surprising in the slightest.
Shame. Blizzard kills another nice feature once again...
