For everyone disappointed with how it looks - why do you think the option is called 'Ray Traced Shadows' and not 'Ray Traced Illumination'?I'm not sure the game engine could even handle the full potential of ray tracing, so at least we got something for ones of us with beefy PCs.
I must admit I was expecting it too look a lot more better then this, I was also wondering if this may help with preference with the shadows rendered from the RXT core's instead of the CPU I believe currently.
Fun fact - you can achieve a similar effect by just setting Shadow Quality to low.
There is no reason why this game should suddenly look like a completely new thing. The shadows finally look really nice and not like solid objects. The number of shadows also seems to have increased a lot in some shots. Especially plants and ledges on buildings now look as if they have a certain depth. I just hope the fps decrease is not too big a deal, otherwise it would be nice to see a DLSS 2.0 implementation to get some kind of workaround solution.
I dont even have rtx installed on my 2070 Super, just bloat if i dont use any RTX games. For wow im surely not installing it, but taste differs, im fine with current visuals.
For me, after testing and comparising both by few hours - it's not much difference. Seriously.I expected much more ray tracing effect than this, specially when we enter dark woods with rain, or something like this.Actually we get much better effect with "only" reshade app, than this. I hope they will improve it with time, because for now = it just make game more "meh" blurry with this options, than "wow!" minecraft rtx ON effect...About FPS: no special change with RTX ON & OFF.Ryzen9 3900X, 16GB DDR4, RTX2080.PS. I wont call it rtx shadows... some kind of fake or illlusion is better word.
Meh, the actual wow shadows look great, isn t there an option for smooth shadows? Making them slighlty blurry? Out of all the graphical advances that came throughout the years, ray shadows has been the worst imo. The fps drop is not worth it, plus needing top tier gpus which also have a hard time with it, i am sure they could have came with cheaper shadows, but that doesn t sell gpus.
I'm building a new PC soon(ish) and have problems deciding the GPU. So would any RTX card suffice?
Needs to see the impact in the new zones. Given the work required to textures to make RTX impactful, there was zero chance it would be effective in pre SL areas.
Don't have a video of it, but having tested it, my FPS almost halved with it enabled lmao. Went from ~130 in boralus, to 60-70. Pretty massive fps difference, but the visual difference is barely noticable.
Some people seem confused. Basically this gives shadows realistic shade physics, meaning that the closer an object is to its shadow, the sharper the shadow. Turn your phone torch on, hold it still and move your hand closer and further from the shadow that it casts, that is basically what this change is meant to be replicating. The second image shows this with the building shadow being diffused and the post at the top of the screen being sharper in comparison, or how in the tenth image the character model shadow is sharp and the building one is diffused.Need to see a video of an object moving closer and further from its shadow to really see if this is working as intended, but basically this is why it is a resource hog, it's calculating how a shadow should look based on the distance from the casting object, potentially making every shadow in an area unique instead of uniform as it has been.
The difference should be more striking in areas with a lot of light sources and reflecting surfaces. And of course spell effects should look spectacular illuminating the rooms. Give us more screenshots!
It actually looks worse to me since it doesn't seems to be able to recognizing the light's source intensity and distance to correctly throw a hard or soft shadow. It just blurs everything the same amount it seems.
It's mostly distance from the light source, the intensity of the light source and distance between the object and the shadow it casts.
Maybe I`m a demon hunter, but where is true difference here? I remember Minecraft where ray tracing seriously changes pictures, so these small changes of shadows are... Not impressive.
nicer shadows, not really needed... Who's gonna play at a console-y framerate for this?
It has like zero impact on frames right now so what are you talking about. @Naj4
