We need videos for those of us who don't yet have beta, I want to see the FPS tank. And in case anyone is not seeing the other wowhead posts comments, you need Windows version 2004 and Nvidia 452.06 drivers along with either an RTX or select GTX cards.
That... looks worse. The shadows are just blurrier. That's the only difference I see.
Am I the only one that can't really see a difference?
these spot the difference games are getting harder and harder
I hope we get full ray tracing eventually, that would be a lot more effectful.
Nice. Now I just need an RTX graphic card.
For those of you wondering, it basically makes shadows blurry like irl
Is that only blured shadow? I can't see any difference except that.
Other than blurry shadows, it also adds/enhances ambient occlusion, which is the dark shadows in obscured spots where light won't naturally reach (such as under projected surfaces)
Unfortunately so far it's not detecting cards capable of that low level of ray tracing, even with the correct driver and windows build. They seem to have forgotten that the GTX 1070 and above GTX cards with pascal processors can do low level ray tracing like shadows. Sure RTX cards with separate cores for that run much better but Nvidia enabled ray trace via driver for the 1070 and above.

I hope to get here before the ‘I can’t see the difference’ posts from people who haven’t done side by side comparisons. When you compare live with ray tracing, the difference is quite striking. A marked improvement.
tbh for the change of detail to the drop of fps with ray tracing...i doubt i'd ever use it.
It looks much better, shame I don't have an RTX card.
Interesting, I was hoping they would use it more thoroughly and to better effect, it looks as though they don't have different materials interact with the light in different ways. Hopefully more work is put into the option over time, I'm glad they are adding it regardless.
I'm excited for this, if Minecraft has shown me anything, it's that lower Rez games can have crazy gains from full ray-tracing.This feels like early days and I think they may need to go into a lot of texture refinement. I like the more muted light but things like zandalari gold should probably reflect a bit more. This may be a slow rollout as it will probably require a lot of dedicated dev time. Currently it feels early days
as a 3d rendering artist, this kind of puts me to sleep.i guess it's too early to really see something truly going on with this.
Meanwhile, RTX 3000 Series is about to release in the next couple weeks...What to do Before Shadowlands:Buy a new graphics card!
