This, along with the Frenzied Dragonhawk Hatchling https://www.cuckhead.com/wotlk/npc=15649#00Rzc have "caster" stats when tamed i.e. it's armor and health is only between 80-90% of a normal Pet of the same level.

For any alliance hunters thinking about traversing to Eversong Woods to tame one of these, keep a few things in mind:

~*~You will have to get to Eversong and the Ghostlands through the portal in Eastern Plaguelands, so be prepared to die..... alot...

~*~Chances are you're going to be much higher than it is, so be prepared for a lot of "level grinding" to help your pet catch up.

~*~there are crazed dragonhawks and feral dragonhawks, but the crazed dragonhawks seem to be slightly higher in level.... try to aim for level 8 since that is the highest I've seen them in that area.

All and all it is a nice pet to have, but unless you simply want it as a vanity pet be prepared to put some work into it.

Some people think that the Feral Dragonhawk Hatchling and the Crazed Dragonhawk are the same color. This isn't true. The feral has a more brown-ish skin, and the crazed a more yellow-ish skin. It's more apparent when you look at their backs, though the lighting in Eversong Woods kind of throws it off a bit, which is probably why people think they are the same color.

I've often seen people say to hunters to tame the level 8 ones, since they're the highest level, and playing as a hunter I can understand why someone would do that. However if for some reasons you'd rather have a brown skinned dragonhawk, go for the feral instead of the crazed.

As with the Feral dragon hawks the crazed one seen here also drop small eggs during winters veil (Christmas) you can sell small eggs for huge profit.

they drop one to 2 eggs per kill and as a lvl27 priest i can kill them in 1-3 hits.

I got one on my hunter when she was lvl14. Needless to say, it's not easy for a Dwarf to travel to Eversong at that level, so I died quite a lot while moving trough the plaugelands. Now my hunter is 68 and growing, the tamed Fire Breath ability (2 second DoT with scaling damage) works wonders combined with "Growl", the normal pet-aggro ability.

Overall, if you look for the perfect pet, skip this one as it's AoE damage will break any CrowdControl, including your preciously timed IceTraps. Also, since it's a "caster pet", the base armor and such seems to be a bit lower than comparable normal pets. However, since the Dragonhawks aren't very common for Alliance hunter-pets and look great, they will get a great deal of attention wherever you go. Also, the coned AoE damage can be very beneficial when solo'ing!

All in all a great hunter pet. I am planning to keep it when it dings 70 because of the looks and it's AoE damage, though the fact that they deal Fire damage alone could be enough to keep it. When fighting very Fire volunerable mobs, this pet can be very worthy.

I have had one of these as a pet since level 10 with my Night Elf Hunter. If you're part of a guild, or if you have high level friends see if you can get a warlock and a couple of people with that warlock to summon you. I had a couple of guildmates summon me right in front of one. I tamed it and then hearthed and my pet quickly became my best friend. You should be able to teach it a bite attack. This will help it to keep aggro on it....I found it quite annoying when I would crit with my opening attack and would pull aggro of my pet. But I wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

In addition to my previous post, I found another great reason for having this beast as your pet-of-choise. Where other pets only tend to like bread and/or meat/fish, this pet will be your personal bio-container, eating almost everything you will give it.

(Raw) Fish, (Raw) Meat and Fruit.

Chances are, you will be having other pet's in your Stable Master's slot which eat something these Dragonhawks will eat as well. That's notable because, being a hunter and using 1 of your precious bagslots for a quiver/pouch, you have only 4/5th of the inventory space compared to of your other characters. Having one sort of food, rather than two or three sorts for your various pets, can be very handy, indeed...

It works great, especially for lower levels. Great pet. Fire breath is totally worth it.

Tamed one today on my lvl 19 Dwarf Hunter since other Dargonhawks may only be found in Outland. Guess it's bad at tanking because it appearently got "caster" stats. Well, the only thing I really wanted was the spell Fire Breath rank 1 to my Pet-Spell-List. Guess that's also a bit silly since it's only Dragon- hawks which may use it. Well.. maybe it make high dmg.

I do think there awsome so the blizzard should keep there blasted dang stupid caster attributes to them selves!.....So curse blizzard and caster things....
i aggre they are pretty i have a level 8 orc hunter so im saving a pet slot i plan on getting The Rake and Dragon hawk

I hear alot of people complaining about Dragonhawks and caster stats...while it is true that they have caster stats at taming (reduced stamina, increased intellect), and thier health may not be quite as high as other pets in thier category (multi-purpose, like wolves, carrion birds, serpents, etc.), I did a comparison to a same level ravager (very high damage, medium health, low armor), and thier health was actually higher at lvl 18. The damage of the dragonhawk compared to the ravager wasn't quite as high, but it WAS considerably higher than that of a wolf or others in it's class. You may not notice it in the pet stats menu, but keep an eye on your combat log. You will notice a very big difference, which is close to the extremely high damage pets out there. So, the end result: Dragonhawks can certainly be classified as multi-purpose pets; however, how "good" a pet is IS NOT determined by caster stats or the lack thereof. To illustrate my point, notice how many times your dragonhawk's firebreath critted? Considerably more often than a same lvl cats' bite/claw, ravagers' gore/bite, etc. The reason? That particular pet spell is boosted by a high intellect, working the same as your spells/abilities do. So, now all you dragonhawk lovers have a very good reason to keep your 'hawk....oh, and one more thing - firebreath scales with level, there is no need to go out and tame other beasts to get the next level ability for your pet, and this actually reaps a HUGE savings in training points....which can then be spent on higher Greater Stamina, thereby negating the lowered health that caster stats create (which we all know is something you have to avoid spending points on after GS 4 or GS 5 simply because you won't have training points for resists/abilities/etc if you do take them). God, am I good.... :D

This is an awesome pet, but if you are low-level alliance, it's a really long run to get it. And you have to enter the Ghostlands through the Eastern Plaguelands, so be prepared to die a lot! If you are horde, it's a very easy pet to obtain! I got this on my alliance character and I tried to swim up the coast around the dangerous areas, and it does not work!

I have had a Crazed Dragonhawk sense lvl 10 i am now almost lvl 61 belf hunter on Venter co. i wouldnt have anyother pet. Dragon has stood by my side for many lvls and has saved my hide time and again. i tryed a cat for a bit but it just didnt work same with a bear.

the C. dragonhawks maybe labled as caster but dont let that stop you from getting one. he may have a little lower hp than some pets but his abilities more than make up for it.

I got 1 when i was lvling at BE area he is very good but for some reson i think his fire is good against those plant things in WC cause im now 16 well if its like fire good against grass then im staying away from water lol

I am a firm believer in cats... have always found them the best pets, although I really like the looks of some of the other pets, like wolves, dragonhawks and some others... anyway, I rolled a BE character and since theres no good cats available at 10, I decided to get a dragonhawk to tide me over till I can get to the barrens and get Echyakee.

After leveling up to 18 with WitherWings, I wouldn't have any other pet. Hands down, best pet I have ever had, even over King B. I stabled the DragonHawk and went to mulgore and tamed a wolf to get bite, a plainstrider to get cower, and then taught them to the dragonhawk. The damage I get is amazing, and I just dont understand the caster stats, I see no difference preformance wise. Witherwings crits more often, and levels more evenly with me then cats do as well. No, they can't learn dash or claw, but they can learn dive, and now they can learn Cobra Reflexes, which was one of the main reasons I kept King B for all that time. Plus, there aren't as many people wandering around with a dragonhawk as there are with cats.

I must say though, I wish that there were some intermediate levels of dragonhawks, since the next level you can get is in the 60s. It would be nice to have a 30 or 40 where you can get a different color and different abilities with firebreath 2 and other tames instead of being stuck with the same one. But still, overall, this really is a great pet. Try it out!

As a level 10 night elf, I only died once getting to the blood elf lands, and here's what I did. Be prepared to take a very long time doing this, but it's the safest way.
Start at Menethil and swim out to where the border of the regular water and fatigue water is. Stay on that border and ride it all the way up the coast. And when I say all the way, I mean all the way to the very top of the continent. Make sure you have your beast tracking on so you can avoid sharks and coastal frenzies. Once you're at the top of the continent, and you're in the "Qual-Thalas" zone and your zoomed out map shows you in the ghostlands, drown yourself. You should find yourself as a ghost in the eastern plaguelands. Run as a ghost to the northern watchtower and past to the blood elf portal. Just follow the road north into eversong and rez at Fairbreeze. And wallah! You're ready to find you a dragonhawk with minimal death. It's the long route, but the safest one.

I am a Tauren I spent a good 4 hours trying to find a way to get this pet. After I finally figure out where the teleport was I went to go get the pet. I wanted the Firebreath ability. Thought it would make a good group agro. Once I tamed him I then got him leveled to lvl 11 (from lvl 8). I notice that I was constantly being followed by higher level Alliance people. What they would do is wait for me to attack a mob and then run up to my Dragonhawk so that the his AoE Firebreath would hit them and turn me PvP. Needless to say with a great deal of sadness I had to destoy the pet. I compensated by going and getting Echeyakee later.

Dragonhawks have a high chance of dropping Small Eggs (they can drop more than one at a time), and with the arrival of Winter Veil it will not be uncommon to see them being farmed for their eggs.

The quest "Treats for Greatfather Winter" requires you to bring Greatfather Winter 5 Gingerbread Cookies and 1 Ice Cold Milk.

The Gingerbread Cookies (the recipe can be purchased from the Smokywood Pastures vendors and requires no cooking skill to learn) requires 1 Small Egg and 1 Holiday Spice to make at a time (the Holiday Spices are purchased from the Smokywood Pastures vendors) and during The Feast of Winter Veil the price of the Gingerbread Cookies on the Auction House will be quite largely inflated.

If you want to make some quick gold, purchase some Holiday Spices, farm the Dragonhawks for their Small Eggs, make 5 Gingerbread Cookies and sell them at inflated prices. Try selling 5 Gingerbread Cookies for about 3g, you'd be surprised as to how many will sell. This, obviously, will only be successful during the period of time in which the Winter Veil event is running, and is a good way of making money for lower level characters.

If you need to do the quest, instead of buying the 5 Gingerbread Cookies at an inflated price on the Auction House - buy some Holiday Spices, come down to the Eversong Woods and kill a few Dragonhawks until you get 5 Small Eggs, then make the Gingerbread Cookies yourself. This way you would've saved yourself a few gold.

Remember, these guys are very low level (6-8), so whether you're doing the quest at level 10, 30, or 70 you will have no problems killing them, unless you are an Alliance in which you may be killed by members of the Horde dueling outside Silvermoon City or helping their lowbie Blood Elf friends do quests.

With that said, farming the Dragonhawks for their Small Eggs can also be good for leveling cooking as some other low level cooking recipes require Small Eggs to be made, for example, Herb Baked Eggs which, when being made, provide a faster alternative to leveling cooking then other low level cooking recipes.

Also, it does not matter which type of Dragonhawk you farm as I believe the drop rates are relatively the same.

I was totally amazed when I got mine - we first went thru Dead Scar - He kicked butt, he was on aggressive.. I start walking thru - and notice he wasn't behind me, turn around, he was taking on 3 at a time! I was certain he was going to die! But, we kicked butt.. and cleared Dead Scar - where I was previously dying..lmaoo! So, I love him ! XD!
He does have the capability of learning 4 different abilities..so, Tttally sticking with him - time will tell. He is a level 11 and I am level 13.. but, for the time being - he and I and my trusty mage friend.. are conquering the world! *giggles*

I have a dragonhawk they are cool i think remindes me of my 61 mage...anyway i have a bloodelf hunter on maeiv server and we own in bg dispite the caster stats and the AoE spell is awsome helps me take on large mobs and those annoying twinks in the battle grounds cause not may ppl have fire resistance .....mine is now 24 as am i and its my best friend (rank 6) ..i would like to teach it some more stuff but not sure what to teach it .......... angileace

Ok if you roll alliance and want one of these as a pet, it takes a while but it is possible. Get to the Wetlands and proceed to swim along the coast up to the point where your character will be along the shore next to the ghostlands. Get naked and drown yourself. You will be teleported to the graveyard in eastern plaguelands. Rez there dont go back to you body, and run like the @#$%ens toward the road north, follow the fork in the road heading north. (You will die quite often, i did it at lvl 10 and i aggroed everything within 20 yards of me, thats why i stayed naked). Just stay on the road, until you get to the portal to the ghostlands, keep going north till you get to eversong woods, and you should see a few of the immedietly on the right just north of the border into eversong.

im a lvl 10 dranei named "Bm" on laughing skull.

Today I got a Dragon Hawk on my alt a Ali night elf at lvl 10 on a pvp server. I did this alone so is quiet do able. (My guild was taking bets if id make it and on how many times I died so was quiet a fun trip with guild chat)
After landing in wetlands and running towards Arathi the only trouble I had was 1 mounted horde decided to smash me all good i didn't fight back just kept running. Rezed at my body and went on my way. Got stuck a bit in Arathi with the patrol on the road i couldn't go near them so had to stay behind which ment more time to attract Raptors. Got to Southshore boarder and first bridge there I swam up to Chillwind Camp got flypath then headed to Western plague lands jumped in the water and swam with no trouble to eastern plague lands bridge. 2 mounted horde spotted me I tho I was going to be smashed again so i just ran str8 past them and kept on my way but was surprised they just they thought i was a great source of amusement and laughed and I got plenty pats and flirts.
As soon as i was out of sight i agro the native animals so I died, which was a good thing the grave was way other side of EPL not to far from the Ghostland's door. Apon getting to Ghostlands I made a beline to ZA instance were i repaired and got another flypoint. Staying to the righ side of the main map
heading nth still sticking close to the water right on the boarder to Eversong Woods on the right side is a streach of grass area where there are lvl 8 Crazed Dragon Hawk where I tamed and hearthed home. Getting my pet and a heap travel XP and valued flypath's as well.

yes it is tamable.

it has a unique ability only to be used by them called fireblast nothing like the mage spell its a AOE DOT attack when u first tame one it will be 18 fire damage over 2 sec. the AOE part is like oxyina's fire breath a cone shaped blast but only much much smaller he has decent armor and attack damage but like all other pets 2.00 DPS after blizz nerfed all the attack speeds.

basically a great starting pet for those who havent played WoW for a long time or are just first playing a hunter to lv 10 and want to know the rules with pets and stuff and hes even great for high lv players who r very very experenced with the game.

also this and the feral dragonhawk hatchling are the only dragonhawks you'l see until you go to outland so i would advise getting one at lv 10 if you want a rare pet until you get to outland and see every hunter having one or a warp stalker, spore bat and nether ray.

This is a really magnificent pet that many hunters would adore, even if it does have caster stats. As soon as I learned about these things, I logged out of my Night Elf Hunter in an inn, and logged on as a Draenei. As quickly as I could, I got to level 10 and dashed off to get it.

It goes really Easy for Aliiance in the beggining. If you were a low level like me, I suggest swimming from Menethil Harbor, past Arathi, until you reach Southshore in Hillsbrad. Now, it gets a little bit tougher(I suggest taking the flight path if your Hearth leads to an area very far away. this will help you later. Or you could just set the hearth here.) The level 20+s that patrol the area are too high for a level 10 to kill, so i suggest swimming in the river, as they cannot reach you there. Keep swimming north until you pass up Alterac and venture into Western Plague Lands.

Now, run from there to the east. You should reach Darrowmere Lake, which encircles the place where Scholomance is located. Swim all the way around it till you reach a small waterfall. Ascend and you should be at the bridge that leads over to Eastern Plague Lands. Cross it.

This is where anyone under 50 is most likely to die. Run as far as you can to the east (Follow the road.) Even with good evasion skills, a level 10 will most likely die. When you do, you should appear in a graveyard in a destroyed town called Darrowshire. Now, unless you want to take more time, rez from the Spirit Healer. Now, run out, and once more, avoid creatures until you reach Corins Crossing (If you die on the way there, dont worry. Just run to ur corpse and get as far away as possible from it and repeat.) Now, go as far around the obliterated town as possible before getting klilled. Now, you should appear in a graveyard next to Lights Hope Chapel. Take the flight path before going on (If you forgot to set your hearth to Southshore, now would be a good time to set it here.)

Heres where your going to have a little trouble, and it might take a few extra minutes. Run as far as you can toward the road. If you made it, good for you. If you didnt, rez farthr from your corpse and you should be there. Follow the road north (You will probably die, but thats ok, just rez past ur corpse.) You will, at some point, reach a fork. If you are still going straight north, keep going. If you see on your map that the road is curving to the west a bit, your on the right track. There should be a sign that is labeled Ghostlands at the fork. Take its word for it and head in that direction. Deaths might follow, but same as always, rez past your corpse. when you reach the portal, take a breather and relax. Hardest parts over.

Past the portal, follow the road North. When you notice that it is rising in elevation, take a detour along the grass, still heading North (On top of the hill lies the little town Tranquillien.) The monsters after Tranquillien are about ur level. Once you notice the road slanting down once more, get back to it. Comon, your almost there!

After a short trek, you will find a bridge, and go ahead and cross it. Welcome to Eversong Woods! Head north, evade the little Apothecary house and keep going north until you see the elusive Dragonhawk before you. You have two choices now:

A.) Tame a lvl 6-8 Crazed Dragonhawk
B.)Tame a lvl 4-6 Feral Dragonhawk Hatchling

Once its over, give yourself a pat on the back. Go ahead and hearth. If your hearth leads to Lights Hope, fly to Ironforge, Southshore, or wherever. If it was Southshore you hearthed to, do the same.

I Ran from menethil harbor to arathi highlands to hillsbrad foothills to western plaguelands to eastern plaguelands then through the north pass to ghostlands. the only thing I did to save time was, once I died I did not rez until I reached the Tranquillien cemetary and just rez'd at the spirit healer there. Ran right to her with no problems and one rez for the whole trip. found my pet and hearthed back home. I hope this advice helps the low level aspiring hunters out there.

On the Kil'Jaeden Realm, I just tamed one at lvl 12. Wild ones have an ability called Feather Flurry that can break the taming. I had to kill two before suceeding on the third one, and it had just Feather Flurried me as well so it was close. So getting to Eversong Woods can be done by a lowbie, just expect to die a LOT everywhere except Silverpine, Tirisfal Glades, Ghostlands and Eversong Woods. Well, steer clear of the towns in Ghostlands and you won't die too much. Like someone said previously, bring a temporary pet to run interference, although in most of the places you will run through, it won't do much beyond buy you a few seconds to get a few yards further, so your major travel distance will be made by Graveyard Jumping.

Something to keep in mind for the Western Plaguelands, IF you are Alliance wanting to tame one of these at low levels :: you will die when you first enter the place. Rez at Chillwind Point and pick up the FP there. RUN to the nearest expanse of water. You will die at least once. Then simply swim the rest of the way to the Eastern Plaguelands. That's what I did to get through the Western Plaguelands because there are no mobs in the water.

In the Eastern Plaguelands, you will get ported to two different graveyards as you go north. Once you end up at the one near the middle, cut Northeast towards 59,12 coords, and try to avoid dying in the middle of mobs that are clustered together.

Make sure your pet is summoned when you go through the Portal to the Ghostlands as when you get close to the Ghostlands there are lvl 16 cats that will aggro as you pass them. They are killable, but they might kill your pet at that lvl. I took a tamed Mangeclaw bear for use as a tank which is what I suggest using...well, any bear or beast that can act as a tank would work.

So, the hardest part of taming a Dragonhawk for Alliance hunters is actually just GETTING there, but, IMHO, if only for a cool looking pet that can dish it out :: it's worth it in spades. It's what I tamed for my pet as a blood elf hunter on the Warsong server.

This Dragonhawk is very tameable and teachable. So far I have taught mine bite and growl. I am looking for a bat or some such to teach it dive. It eats Fish, meat and fruit. So not that hard to keep food on hand for. I got mine at level 10, have had it for 12 levels. I think I will keep it and see how it does as I take it higher.

I followed all your advice, and have a beautiful feral dragonhawk pet. I did it as a level 16 Draenei hunter (I am very cowardly). I lost count of how many times in the Eastern Plaguelands - I had a simple linen dress on, no armour or weapons so nothing got damaged when I rezd - I read that advise elsewhere.
The proudest moment was a level 70 warrior in Ight's Hope who said I was a very brave girl and bowed to me.

Thanks again, it worked beautifully and I feel really good.
