A new patch has hit the PTRs and with it comes a few new items worth mentioning, as well as some new / changed icons and an updated Wailing Caverns map! Yeah, that's right - Wailing Caverns.
You might remember that the last major
PTR Patch Notes update
mentioned removal of the "maze section" of
Wailing Caverns
. The map has been updated to reflect this change.
New Items
We've also uncovered a few new items from this latest patch, including some which I'd assume are rewards players can obtain in the new goodie bags from the

New Ghostcrawler Blog: Stat Allocation
The patch right before Cataclysm reinvented the wheel. It made spirit a bread and butter stat for all healers, it introduced mastery, and it normalized almost everything. In his latest developer blog, Ghostcrawler talks about stat allocations. He also hates on Paladins for one paragraph.
Kidding--well, sort of. Maybe the Paladin hate isn't entirely uncalled for, either. We do have three specs and, as Ghostcrawler contends, that's a hard puzzle to solve. Blizzard doesn't like Intellect plate, but it doesn't like any other solution either. Give us Holy Paladins mail and we're just shaman. Make our spellpower derive from strength and we'll be Retribution Paladins that can heal extraordinarily well.
Ghostcrawler also breaks down loot tables, supply and demand, and how slot machine bosses like those from Baradin Hold and Vault of Archavon feel for both developers and players. It's an interesting read and a good insight on why things are the way they are and how the Cataclysm model is here to stay. After several expansions and six years, it looks like Blizzard feels like they've found the best solution. Read on to find out why.

Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (March 25 - March 29)
Just a tiny batch of new hotfixes, all of which were implemented between March 25 - March 29. Maybe Blizzard is finally running out of things to fix? Yeah, right. Don't worry, 4.1 will bring a whole new mess of changes and bugfixes all too soon! Nothing too incredibly interesting today, though I'm sure it was funny how players were using

Patch 4.1 - Rise of the Zandalari Official Preview
Blizzard hit us today with the official content preview for Patch 4.1: Rise of the Zandalari. It's a well-written summary of the threats adventurers will be facing soon and explains what role Vol'jin will be playing and the numerous threats that Stranglethorn contains. It also shows us some of the new vanity drops we'll be seeing.
In years past, the Zandalar tribe, encompassing the wise and scholarly progenitors of the trolls, heroically assisted the Horde and the Alliance with thwarting the nefarious activities of their brethren in Zul'Gurub and Zul'Drak. Yet the chaos unleashed by the recent Cataclysm has reshaped the Zandalari's philosophy about the world and the dwindling remnants of their race. Led by a mysterious prophet known only as Zul, the Zandalari have issued a call to Azeroth's embattled troll populations: unite into a single mighty empire and save their race from extinction.
Thus far, the Gurubashi and Amani trolls have answered the summons and received aid from the Zandalari, allowing them to rebuild their respective capitals in Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman. Not all trolls, however, have so eagerly adopted the Zandala

Blizzard Posts on Cataclysm Raid Content: Is It Too Inaccessible?
Some fresh new Blizzard posts today discussing the accessibility and difficulty of Cataclysm raid content. While I'm sure most of this will be immediately dismissed as "casuals whining, lol" the posters do bring up some valid points and the Blizzard posters provide some excellent and thought-out answers. Not everyone is in a big guild, or can commit the time to meet certain raiding expectations - is Cataclysm content not intended for them? If not, what content is? Remember when it was the
mobs
who got buffed in raid dungeons (
Chill of the Throne
or
Sunwell Radiance
, anyone)?
How do you feel about the current state of Cataclysm raid content? Too hard? Too easy? TOO SOON?

Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (March 2 - 16)
It's been so long without Cataclysm hotfixes, I almost missed these! *runs away and hides*
Just a few new hotfixes since March began, as I'm sure Blizzard is extremely busy preparing for patch 4.1 and may finally be running out of things to hotfix in patch 4.0.6 (though I'm sure many of you guys will quickly and eagerly tell me how very wrong I am about that). There's still some time before 4.1 hits so we'll probably see a lot of necessary changes either making their way live or being implemented with the next patch!
This latest batch of hotfixes includes some modifications to Heroic difficulty
Blackwing Descent
encounters, as well as few other fixes (no more cheesing the flag in
Twin Peaks
, no more kiting
Shandris Feathermoon
to
Orgrimmar
). Check 'em out after the break!

Patch 4.1 - PTR Build 13750 - 3D Models (Lions and Ice Cream and Bears, Oh My!)
That's right -
ice cream
. There weren't very many new models this patch but the ones that were included definitely stand out. In addition, we've (also) decided to post the winged lion model that you may have already seen floating around other sites. This model was actually added a few builds ago but looks rather unfinished at this time. We will, of course, post an updated version as soon as its available. So... what do you think it is?
In addition to the lion, we've also got a new Amani Bear model which is simply a recoloring of the old
Amani War Bear
. No word yet on whether or not this is the finished version of the upcoming
Amani Battle Bear
, or simply a dungeon NPC or otherwise, but judging by the fact that the Zul'Gurub raptor looks to have gotten a recolor as well, this may be the case. Laaaaaaaaaaame. Oh, well!
Also, ICE CREAMS. OM NOM NOM.

Cataclysm Leveling Flow Guide: 1-60
Cataclysm tore the world asunder and redefined Azeroth--Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor will never be the same. However, as exciting as it's been to watch this all unfold, it also means that it's harder than it was before to get back into the groove of things if you have taken a break. Even starting a new alt can be a mystifying journey since all the zones have been returned and the landscape changed. Darkshore was hit with tragedy, the Barrens is split in two, and tensions have never been higher in Silverpine Forest. There’s too much to take in and it's hard to know where to start sometimes.
But don't worry--that's what we're here for, right? In addition to having
a lengthy guide to the Cataclysm changes
in our Cataclysm section of Wowhead, this post will get you up to speed on the general leveling progression of World of Warcraft for levels 1-60.
Find out where to go, what zones you shouldn't pass up, and more after the break! We've even included some fun items to hunt for to give you reasons to check out certain zones over others!

Patch 4.1 - PTR Build 13726 - Spell Changes
A new PTR patch has just been released, and with it came a few minor class changes and (mostly) a bunch of tooltip and typo fixes. Many of these class changes were previously announced with last week's
PTR patch notes update

The only particularly notable change in this latest set of spell diffs:
Hunter

Multi-Shot
and
Distracting Shot

Blizzard Posts on Upcoming 4.1 Features (Including Guild Challenges!)
It looks like Patch 4.1 will include a feature we weren't expecting -
guild challenges

heated discussion regarding guild reputation
on the official forums a while back, where many players suggested adding guild quests as a method of earning reputation and experience. Looks like Blizzard agreed! We don't have any details yet on these quests or what they'll entail or reward, but you can be sure that as soon as the information is available we'll bring it to you!
Warriors and clothies will be happy to learn that ZA/ZG will also feature appropriately itemized pre-raid ranged slot weapons, something that many players were extremely disappointed over the Justice Points vendor lacking. In addition, as a little something for archaeologists - players will appropriately leveled archaeology will be able to unlock the new Edge of Madness bosses in Zul'Gurub! Players may recall that in Classic Zul'Gurub, this event required an alchemist to farm annoying materials (
