In the most recent PTR Update to Wrath Classic,
Blizzard has increased the item levels on various gear from Phase 2
. This was announced back in early September,
where Blizzard explained the reasoning behind this change
, opting to increase the longevity of the Ulduar raid and give a legitimate reason for players to continue clearing Ulduar.
We've updated our Wowhead Wrath Classic Database with the latest item tooltips from the PTR, which are the increased item levels. Blizzard has stated that some items (Such as
Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings
) and Algalon items will see some further adjustments in later updates to the PTR. To view all items added in Phase 2, click the link below --

With ToC on an entirely separate Phase theres no point to these buffs. There no "oh why run Uld when ToC is much better ilvl" kind of competition to be had.
So what now we have to buff ToC and then ICC gear so that they feel like actual upgrades? All that would accomplish is breaking the iLvl curves more than they already will be. Then you need to mega buff ToC and ICC to compensate.
Like why?
This is so true. I've never heard anyone complain back then about Ulduar becoming meaningless after ToC. They should just have prolonged the duration of the Ulduar Raid. Now we can have ICC Gear in Phase two (ICC 10 Man is 252). How is this normal? How can a single raid have iLvls from 225 - 252? Who asked for this? This is going to be catastrophic for Casual Guilds as they will fall behind and Casual Players who won't have the access to HM Gear and start being NOT TAKEN IN RAIDS starting from ToC bc the hardcore players will not want anyone with 230 Avrg Gear to join their 240-250 groups.
Look at how the current iLvl distrubution allowed so many Guilds to have some sort of Achievement bc the gap between 200 and 213 is not high. Now it will be a gap from 213-252 (!).
I am def. not subbing for Ulduar again. Its just too much headache. Thanks so much, especially as low DPS classes like Ret I feel double effed.
Ok, OK, ok.
Join a guild, join a GDKP (oh we all LOVE GDKPS), make ur own PuG or join a PuG that doesnt require BiS gear to run the raid?

The main purpose of this is to make Ulduar more relevant. When TOTC launched it made Ulduar completely irrelevant and to counter that Blizz is buffing ilvl drops to still have relevance when TOTC is released. Overall Totc will give higher ilvl gear, but some items might be less impactful or there would be a couple bis items from Ulduar till ICC drops.
It is a good change, Ulduar is one of the best raids created and I am glad it rewards items more powerful. This way you still wanna run that place for gear till ICC
Making Ulduar "more relevant" by giving it higher ilvl gear wont make it more fun it will just create a tedium of having to go back to a raid that you have already been doing for likely 4-5 months depending on how long they decide to draw out P2. All for what at that point you'll likely have all you need by then (especailly if you're like my guild and run splits and we aren't some HC Meta guild either its just by this point after 3 years of the game people have multiple alts that they play) from Uld so its full clearing a raid for Val shards and DE mats is that fun to you? Meanwhile the current content in P3 will posses little real challenge because there is no real signifcant ilvl jump from one raid tier to the next it all just seems rather pointless to me.
People think of Ulduar fondly from back then but imo I think its really through rose tinted glasses Uld wasn't cleared till a month after ToC came out simply because people werent great back then yes its a fun raid for sure but things are fun when you can just go back with ilvl gear that its much better and steamroll the old content. And yes players were pretty bad back then you can go back and watch raid guides from tank spot with actual decent quality footage and dps meters where they show people clearing content and doing half to a third fo the dps people in my raid are doing now Uld will be a slaughter especially once you get the gear from it that is much higher than intended and especially since they wont be buffing the content. Challenging raids are are more fun when you cant just streamroll things so easily, increasing the ilvl will just turn the raid into what Naxx is right now an absolute joke and get boring and tedius real quick.
