This quest was added in Patch 3.0.8. The required animals are:

Frost Leopard (to the south of Zim'Torga)
Icepaw Bear (to the south of Altar of Quetz'lun and to the northeast of Altar of Rhunok)

You have to use the blowgun the put the animals to sleep. You can then check the gender. If it's a male you'll be engaged into combat and have to kill it. If it's a female she'll just follow you for a few minutes.

My guess is they added this quest to help with the 99/100 "Empire of Zul'Drak" quest achievement. I saw a lot of people posting on the WoW forums that they were one quest away. I never seemed to have this problem; I was always two over the quest achievement :P Nice of Blizzard to add another quest though.

I have to say this is maybe the most awesome quest ever, or the most disturbing quest ever.

So, in summary...

You talk to the Chronicler and he, as shown, informs you that he needs females.

So you take his blowgun and go find a bear or kitty. Foooot! Dart tranq of doom...

At this point, the kitty or bear will lie down placidly and become ... well... not talkative, but communicative at least.

So you "Talk" to them, peacefully tranquilized, and proceed to lift their tail to find out they are female. You only need to DISCOVER three females, you don't need to actually take them back. Remember this fact though...

Now, I'm not really sure precisely what happens at that point. Unfortunately, the precept is disturbing because it speaks for itself.

If it's a male, apparently it really objects to whatever you do while under his tail because he immediately becomes angry and attacks you. Females on the other hand apparently LIKE what you do so much that they become a friendly "Female" version of the creature that follows you around for five minutes. That's it though. Not a companion, not a guardian, not a minion...

Remember how you just need to discover the females? You don't need to lead them back. There is no real reason for them to be following you... Unless they just really like you.

Bears at 60,36 at Rhunok...Cats at 65,75 at Harkoa.They will start following you, and even though the quest giver says bring them back, you don't have to.

if you want to get your weapon stills up, put them to sleep and then attack them. They will not attack back to you and if your weapon skill is very low, it will actually take a while to kill them.

Quest is bugged in a good way, on a Death Knight my ghoul would leap after the dart was fired and damage the animals before the dart made them asleep - if they are male, they evade bug while if female the quest continues in it's original format.

ok, for this, all you have to do is use the Tranquilizing gun to put them to sleep. Then right click the animal (Bear or Leopard) and click on the thing that says something like, "Lift tail to see if it is a male or female". And that is basically it.

Bears are fairly far away, but they will follow you back even if you are on a flying mount (at least druid flight form).

I've recovered around ten females of each, but it says I only have two leopards. :-P

As a warrior i charged the targets directly after the arrow was shot and that way they bugged so if they where males you don't need to fight them (Evade) but if they where femeles you got the female following you.
Probably works with any stun.

I found a bug in this quest. If you are a Warlock with your Felguar's "Intercept" spell on auto, and he attacks the bear after you tranq him, and it's an angry male, he won't attack and will evade and disappear after a few minutes.

I'm seeing that ratio, if not worse, for bears. Not sure this is worth the time for a daily, to be honest. A potential time-sapper. Althought I will give them points for original quest idea. Better than gather 30 murloc toenails or somesuch...

It's not 100% sure fact but i think if you press "male" on the chat log it'll be a female.. Cause I from some reason pressed female and it has always been an angry male.. once i started to press the "male" it was only females... :S Odd..

if you dont want to fight the males:
if you shoot them with the blowgun, then shoot them with an instant spell (such as Flame Shock) before the tranquilizer hits them, then after you check if they're male or female - if they're male they'll be evade bugged and cant move (they'll just stand there till they despawn)

edit: you wont be in combat either, so you can mount up and run to the next one

Be warned, these animals will follow you around for a little while even after turning in the quest. I found it extremely annoying trying to loot corpses and and the like with a bunch of bears standing on top.

I am doing now and you can grab all of them and return at the same time (they follow you), so you don't need to return them one by one as some of these types of quests require you to do.

There are some Frost Leopards and Icepaw Bears around 74, 70.

You have to tranquilize the cats and bears and click on them to lift their tails to see if you've found a female or have to fight an angry male.

The animals you capture will follow you all over the zone, and for short period when outside the zone. They'll disappear if you spend too much time out of Zul'Drak, but this doesn't affect your progress.

Along with the Drakkari artifacts, I'm interested in returning to Zandalar with some of the Zul'Drak wildlife. I have males of both the frost leopards and icepaw bears, but I need females!

Too bad that my trapper was killed in a most unfortunate accident. Perhaps you would be willing to fill in for him?

Put the leopards and bears to sleep with this blowgun then lift their tails and return with some females if you would be so kind. They can be found near the Altars of Rhunok, Quetz'lun, and Har'koa.
