The Sister Mercy boards at an island in off the Southwest just off the shore from the ancient lift. I'd guess 38,75 perhaps I'm a bit off but there's an NPC on the island.

One of the quest to recover the 4 vrykul artefacts. In order to get this quest, you must have finished "Scoodles".

You have to finish the little quest chain (listed in the quick fact box above) gave by Captain Ellis in order to get the shield.

Once you have finish the 4 quests, Orfus gives you the final part of the quest chain : A Return to Resting.

The exact loc to board the ship is 37.9, 74.7 and don't jump ship once you accept the quest. There are two follow up quests on the ship.

What's most annoying about this bug is that you can't get the 105 quest achievement without doing the first 4 quests in this line.

This quest unbugged itself without a server restart on Gorefiend. After trying unsuccessfully to turn in this quest, I stayed nearby and all of sudden I saw the ? in the boat coming closer and there he was!

Sometimes you just need to wait around for a while. It does not benefit power levelers though and those racing to 80. :)

Really annoying quest.

The boat doesn't wait for you to get the loot and come back. You need to swim after it. And once it's back at it's harbor, someone else can take it out again for the quest.

Don't be surprised to blow about 30 min on a quest that consists of clicking on a cannon with no risk.

This quest chain seems to have been inspired somewhat by the Pirates of the Carribean Chain. With the Mutiny and the ghost ship and such.

It's possible to board the boat by going under it and jumping.

Might have been a bug, but it worked for me, at least when they boat paused to fire at the sea giant.

Edit: DE-CONFIRMED. Just tried it again, seems to have just been a one time bug =/

If you are a Death Knight or grouped with one, you can use Path of Frost to stand on the water and just run into the front of the ship as it's coming at you, and you will glitch into the lower deck of the ship.

This might be possible without path of frost, I haven't tried. Also, I was mounted but that shouldn't matter.

Either way, this helps if you don't feel like waiting for it to dock at the island.

I cant even get on the damn ship... Me and another lock ius standing and waiting on the island and when ship arrives it just stands there but nothing happens... :/

I spent an hour on this quest and gave up. From long experience in wow most boat-related quests are bugged... even if you just have to look at the damn thing, it'll be bugged. People that make those must have some child traumas with boats and sea, and whatever..... Anyways, not going to mention bugs themselves (too many) but be prepared to spend at least 30 mins on this one.

Also, dont try killing the ghouls bellow if you're a ranged class or mage... bugs will eventually kill you, and ghouls will quickly respawn.

The quest is still bugged. The npc is nowhere to be found on the ship, ive looked and looked and still no npc. ive had this quest for a while and day after day, it still doesnt show.. should i just drop the quest and pick it up again? or completely forget about it?

I haven't had any bugs at all, I just went to the small island at 37.3, 74.6 and if you just wait there, the ship will dock for a minute or so. You board the ship and speak to Captain Ellis at the rear of the ship and turn in the quest. Stay on the ship and he'll give you a few more quests as well.

The ship anchors at a few locations, but you can't board it at every spot, 37.3, 74.6 is the only location that you can, as far as I had observed.

If you missed the ship, you can swim in front of it and wait until it runs over you. Move and you should be at the bottom deck. Not sure if it works for everyone, because I used levitate and that might have given me extra height.

Still bugged. Been on the boat 5-6 times today, and no captain to be seen. Also met up with a lock that had been trying the last 2-3 days, and had no luck. Several people have submittet tickets on this issue, hope it will be resolved soon =) This was on Twisting Nether btw.

I found Captain Ellis, on the little island that the Sister Mercy docks at. Near the NPC Juniper.
Co-ordanates 38, 74. I think Blizzard moved him from the boat, to stop him bugging out.

This whole quest line involving the boat -- is dumb and glitchy and it sucks if you're unlucky. It involves getting on the boat and doing the first quest from the captain before you hit the shore where the rock giant is. If you don't do this before you get to shore you might not have enough time to kill the rock giant. If you don't kill the giant in time, you'll have to wait for the boat to move completely along its path again, which includes waiting at the little island.

In my case, the rock giant somehow got killed right as I reached the shore without me being able to loot it. Precious time along the shore was lost waiting for it to respawn. It respawned but too late; I killed it but the boat was moving offshore and I had to swim a lengthy distance back to grab the loot off the rock giant. Unfortunately the rock giant despawned by the time I got there. I swam back to the little island where the boat was. Just in time to see it set sail again without me.

For me, when the ship docked it usually (but not always) lowered a boarding ramp for a couple of seconds.
However, there was really no way to get onto the ship in that time-frame. The ramp was acwardly positioned in a way that usually pushed you into the water when trying to jump aboard. (I recommend aiming carefully!)

I tried all the methods listed above for getting on board, but nothing worked.
After more then a half an hour spent trying, I manage it by using sprint and taking good time aiming my jump.

Now, coming up on trip #10 around the isle, I am still waiting for Sorlof to spawn, the giant required for the followup quest.
According to the comments there, there may be a phasing bug that causes him to be invisible, so you need to jump of the ship to kill him the old fashion way.
You aren't likely to solo him at low level. He's level 80 elite, has got 126k HP and hits for ~3k on leather.
Edit #1: Bug confirmed. Mob is there but is not visible from the ship. (Not out of range, but rather out of phase.)
Edit #2: GM suggested abandoning and retaking the quest as a fix for the phasing bug. (Unconfirmed. Will try asap.)

I'm not bothering, however. Abandoning and moving on.
I seriously recommend that you avoid this quest unless you have some compelling reasons not to.
It's just not worth it.

In my opinion, this quest line should either be drastically re-designed or simply removed.

The ghost, Juniper, has to be on the island for the boarding board to drop and tt'll only stay down for as much as necessary for the ghost to get into the ship.

Remember that after going up you have to jump to get into the ship, as there's a small bump at the end of it.

No one seemed to catch that the ship's name, Sister Mercy, is actually a reference to the old gothic rock band Sisters of Mercy. Alongside such other notable WotLK references, such as Siouxsie the Banshee, there's definitely a fan amidst their designers.

Seems to be another bugged quest (post 3.3) in Howling Fjord. On the Proudmoore server, there is no ship at all.

This quest is bugged (after 3.3.3). In RavenCrest server...But unlike Proudmoore server, you'll find the ship but you can't board it since Juniper is not moving and the ramp is not showing

the easier way, go to the rock that is located on the island where are the bears, climb to higher ground and use the mount and wait that the approaching ship, jump and bingo, you're in the boat

I had to rez and get back on the ship three times to get the powder. You get it by looting the corpses, but I had some combination of gear on that was causing the whole room to aggro on me as I came down the stairs. You rez at the graveyard, so don't run off the nearby very high cliff, you are not a ghost. You have to go back to the captain before you can fire the cannon. You fire the cannon by having the 5 powder kegs in your inventory and rt-clicking, you have unlimited shots. After the monster dies the crew yells that the treasure "fell on the floor," so I ran all over the ship searching the floors for the treasure. On about the fifth time I jumped off the ship and swam to the corpse, and there was a yellow thing in the water. Right-click to open it, swim back to the island, re-board the ship, turn in treasure to the captain. I think the shield is for the guy at the ski-lift thing, but he doesn't seem to want it, guess you have to finish the frozen heart cave quest to finish this set of quests. I killed Jonas, but could not solo the bear. So LFG, anybody online?

As a DK (shammy probably can too) ran right into the ship while on horse, as it was moving. Went through side of ship and ended up inside by cannons.

Lol, quest still bugged after almost 15 years in the WotLK beta. The captain is still not on the ship ... reported as bug ... again ... :D
"Small changes" pls? Get rid of the bug(s) in that quest line ;)

Go to the island close, where friendly npc Juniper is located. Wait for the ship to arrive. A ladder will deploy for you to enter ship. Handle in quest on boat. IMPORTANT: Follow up quests are on the boat-dont leave the boat.

The stair at 37,75 on the graveyard was invincible. I typed in /reload and it appeared. Good luck getting on the ship. :)

Edit: was invisble again and again. It only appeard when the ship was directly there and I did a /reload.

Quest says .... Find Capt Ellis on the boat. It ain't enough to get on the boat. You also need to speak to Ellis, who is on the rear deck of the ship.

Sister Mercy docks on the small island between here and Sorlof's Strand to pick up more souls for the ship's crew 'bout once every five minutes. There be no shortage of souls 'round these parts...
