5.3 PTR: Battlefield Barrens - Scenarios, Quests, and Lore
Patch 5.3 introduces a new world event, Battlefield Barrens, that explores the conflict between the Alliance, Horde, and Garrosh. There's a ton of stuff to do and collect as part of this event--but it's only around for a limited amount of time.
To unlock this world event, which takes place in Durotar and Northern Barrens, you'll need to do several
new scenarios and a quest chain showing the underlying politics behind your faction
.
Once the world event is unlocked, you can collect

Blood in the Snow Scenario Introduction
If you ever thought that Scenarios felt a bit abrupt and wanted more of a lore buildup--hey, here's a quest to help Vol'jin--you're in luck in Patch 5.3. Our friends at
WoW Insider
mentioned that there was a special scene leading into one of the new 5.3 scenarios,
Blood in the Snow
, so we hopped on the PTR to check out what goes on!
You're first sent a mail by Lorewalker Cho asking you to head to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Once there, he shares with you what he just discovered about the Alliance and gives you
The King and the Council
. Varian is facing some unforeseen difficulties in making a deal with the dwarves.
We're curious to see if these lead-in quests and Lorewalker scenes will be added for additional scenarios in the future--it was pretty effective here.
Transcript and screenshots of the quest below:

Isle of Thunder Preview: PvE and PvP Dailies, Troll Transmog, Single-Player Scenarios
The 5.2 PTR is up to testing Stage 2 of the Isle of Thunder questing! We last previewed it during Stage 0, so there are some new things available such as the option to choose between PvE and PvP dailies, single-player scenarios tied to each phase, and the addition of troll-themed drops like
Gorgiera del Vincolatore dei Loa
from Zandalari mobs.
PvE or PvP Daily Quests
Rivalsa del Kirin Tor

As for PvP quests, accepting any of these quests will flag you for PvP, even on a PvE realm. These quests send you into the heart of the enemy's base and while none of them specifically ask you to kill enemy players, you'll definitely be running into them as you kill enemy g

5.2 PTR: New Reputations and Rewards Preview
There are three new factions in Patch 5.2:
Rivalsa del Kirin Tor

Avanzata degli Shandaren

Rivalsa del Kirin Tor

Rewards
These factions
were initially not intended
to have Valor Point rewards, but since 5.2 was a very raid-heavy patch, epic rewards costing

are being added to be palatable for non-raiders.
From Zarhym: "These rewards are ilevel 496 and will only accommodate a few slots, as they aren’t intended to be very attractive to raiders (including those running LFR),

Mists of Pandaria Preview: Scott Mercer and Ion Hazzikostas Interview
Blizzard just posted two important news stories. First off, they have a very in-depth interview about the raids in Mists of Pandaria. There are some important tidbits shared in this discussion:
Mogu’shan Vaults will be the first raid and it will probably be delayed up to a week on release, so there is less pressure to hit level cap as a raider.
The other two raids will unlock weeks after Vaults to give raiders even more time acclimate.
Lore has been really thought out this time around. The instances should ideally flow into each other, as opposed to back in WotLK where they felt so jarringly different. For example, you'll fight the Sha of Fear at the end of one raid only to have her flee to the next.
The raid rewards players with items with the following item levels: item level 476 for Raid Finder, 489 for normal mode, and 502 for Heroic.
There’s also a new mount that can be obtained by defeating Elegon, a celestial dragon found deep within the Vault:
Redini della Serpe delle Nubi Astrale
.
Other than that, Blizzard also confirmed that
Festa della Birra
will be delayed so it doesn't make players feel rushed to experience Mists of Pandaria as well as do the holiday. This is welcomed news, as mo

PvP Gear in Mists
You will have less resilience on your gear coming into beta. However, you will also have some base resilience and that base should offset the PvP power that everyone is getting. The net result should be that you take about the same damage you do today in a PvP setting, but will take less damage from someone not wearing PvP gear.
Currently on your beta build, I believe the ratio of power to resilience is off. You should have more resilience and less power than you do.
It is entirely possible that some new talents or spell changes will result in too much burst damage in isolated cases, but when giving feedback, it's useful for us if you distinguish between those and survivabili

Questing in Cataclysm: The Best Quests and Rewards
With a bit of a break this holiday weekend, it's time for an old-fashioned quirky guide--this time on quests and fun quest rewards.
Around a year ago, the revamped 1-60 content was unveiled, providing players with a fresh way to complete Loremaster! With 4.3 on the horizon, take some time before the chaos starts up again to check out some of the following quests. From silly to serious, you'll learn a bit about Azeroth's lore and collect some unique rewards along the way.
The first table covers interesting quest chains (by no means a complete list!), organized by continent. The second table covers quirky quest rewards--gear, pets, mounts, fun trinkets, consumables, disguises, and more! (Disclaimer: mild spoilers.)

Some old favorites were removed in Cataclysm--from small chains like saving Trey Lightforge in Felwood, to epic chains like Fallen Hero of the Horde. But there's still something for everyone, whether you're interested in completing
