TankSpot Making...a Feature-Length Film?
Apparently one of our friends at
TankSpot
are planning a WoW-themed documentary project called
The Raid
.
This is a really interesting concept to me—obviously one that strikes very close to home, but beyond that I've always been really interested in the places that gaming and culture connect. They've set up a page on
KickStarter
in the hopes of gathering some funding in the form of donations.
If you're interested in hearing more about the project, you can check out their page here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/84946011/the-raid-promo
Or you can read the blurb after the break. I really encourage you to check this out—gamers are never going to be understood by the mainstream media unless we take the first step. They also have a fan page on Facebook which you can find
here

Star Trek Online Beta Keys for Premium Members
Just thought I'd take a moment to point out: the open beta for
Star Trek Online
has begun recently, but beta keys are hard to come by—unless, of course, you're a
Premium member
here at Wowhead!
Here's How You Do It
Start by becoming a Premium user: click
here
and then follow the process.
Your Premium status is stored at
ZAM.com
. When you
sign up
for Premium, Wowhead checks to see if you already have an account at ZAM, or at
Allakhazam
, by cross-checking the email addresses. If you have a ZAM account already, it signs that account up for Premium and links it to your Wowhead account. If you don't, it silently creates a ZAM account (something like Malgayne|WH) and links THAT to your Wowhead account. Obviously we'll be streamlining this in the future. :P
In order to claim your Star Trek Online beta key, you need to log in to your ZAM account at
www.zam.com
. But if you created your account silently, you won't have a password—so you need to go [url=

Shout-Out From Pawn
Those of you who use the addon
Pawn
will know that it's a loot-ranking addon, which determines an item's score based on point values you attach to their particular stats—in a similar manner as our own
weight scale
feature, only directly in the game.
Well, Pawn users may have also noticed a subtle change in the addon, just like
PoeticDragon
did this morning. See the image to the right. :)
Hi Pawn guys!

Looking Back on 2009... for Wowhead
In keeping with the tradition of the beginning of a new year, there have been a number of posts looking back on 2009, and all the interesting developments both in the world at large, and in our game of choice.
I thought, then, that I would take a moment to look at all the interesting developments here at Wowhead itself! There have been
a ton of changes
to the site here in the last year, and what better time to take stock than a new year?

Updated Site Navigation!
In your effort to navigate here, you may have noticed that Wowhead has made some tweaks and updates to our
site navigation
!
We've consolidated a few items, added a few new ones, and moved some things around. Don't panic! Here's a run-down of where everything is:
Database
– All of the database information is right where you left it. We also now have a link there to the
New Items
page, so you can automatically see a quick list of all the new items in each patch. Menu items have been reordered by relevance/popularity. Additionally, we made the "Random Page" button directly available from any database-related page so you can click it repeatedly for hours of fun.
Tools
– This tab now contains the
Profiler
, as well as old standbys like the
Talent Calculator
,
Item Comparison
and
Hunter Pet Calculator
. We've also added a section for written content, including the
Patch Notes
pages (which are always the handiest patch notes because they're full of Wowhead links :D),

New Database Page: World Events!
Here at Wowhead the developers are working hard in order to release the new features you folks have been waiting for, and today we have a new feature on the database to show you all: the World Events page!
Each World Event page is like any other database page. It contains any and all data—i.e. items, achievements, quests, or titles—pertaining to the event (where applicable), and a place to leave comments as well as submitting screenshots. You can also
search
for world events.
In the Quick Facts box, you'll find information on how long the event will be running and a link to Wowhead's guide to the event (usually written by
Miyari
).
The entire World Events page is divided up into four sections for ease of use:
Holidays
,
Recurring Events
, and
PvP Events
.
As we go, we'll be adding articles at the top for the individual world events. Aside from that, the only things missing are
your comments
, so now's your chance to get going! Feel free to also leave any comments about this

Please note:
The actual event doesn't begin until

Item Comparison Enhancements!
We've made some long-awaited enhancements to our
Item Comparison
tool!
You can now add
enchantments
,
gems
and
random enchantments
to your items! Just right-click on the item icon at the top to add a gem or enchantment, and the stats will automatically update—including the set bonuses.
You can now set your level using a dropdown in the top right, and all your ratings calculations and heirloom item statistics will update.
You can also click on the Rating levels in the columns to change the display to percentages instead!
Combat ratings will now be displayed in the "Gains" row as percentages.
Go start adding things to your
Item Comparison
and see for yourself!

Dynamic Heirloom Tooltips!
I know, the time we've taken implementing this is pretty inexcusable. But that doesn't mean we can't make a big fuss about it when it gets here!
You can now adjust the level of an heirloom item in the tooltip, and the stats will automatically update. You can do this with
heirloom items
just like you could with items like
Mantello di Seta del Demone delle Cripte
, which have combat ratings. Heirlooms default to level 80, but you can see them at any level with just a click!
Also, if you're messing with the
Profiler
, your heirloom stats will automatically adjust to match the level of the character you're editing. This is especially awesome if you're editing a
custom profile
, as you can change your level around at will and watch your stats update in real time.
Enjoy!
