Hey everyone! We're back with another Classic Spotlight, where we take a deeper look at events that happened during WoW Vanilla to remember them and get hyped up for the upcoming WoW Classic servers! In our first post of the Ahn'Qiraj series, we went back to take a look at the
Ahn'Qiraj War Effort
, the server-wide event to open these raids. In this post, we're taking a look at the instances themselves,
Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj
and
Ahn'Qiraj
!
With the
event and the recent newfound relevancy of
Silithus
, we have decided to look at two classic instances. This may also serve as a hype post for what can be found on Classic Servers.
Check out our past Classic spotlights as well on
Onyxia's Lair
and
Farming Nature Resistance
.
For more information on what loot the instances of Ahn'Qiraj drops and what they look like, you can check out our
Ahn'Qiraj Loot Overview
!
Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj
The
Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj
were released as a 20-man raid, serving together with
Zul'Gurub
as raids for more casual groups. AQ20, as it was dubbed, was also known for very diverse boss encounters, which required less orthodox strategies to be defeated.
Reputation and Tier Sets
This raid gives
Cenarion Circle
reputation, and bosses drop less gear than its sister instance. The raid also became quite popular because of the so-called
Cenarion Circle set
, which is a 3-piece tier set that was obtained with both drops from the instance and reputation with Cenarion Circle. The set contained a ring (which required Honored with Cenarion Circle), a cloak (Revered), and a weapon (Exalted), so it didn't conflict with other sets available at the time.
Druid:
Symbols of Unending Life
Hunter:
Trappings of the Unseen Path
Mage:
Trappings of Vaulted Secrets
Paladin:
Battlegear of Eternal Justice
Priest:
Finery of Infinite Wisdom
Rogue:
Emblems of Veiled Shadows
Shaman:
Gift of the Gathering Storm
Warlock:
Implements of Unspoken Names
Warrior:
Battlegear of Unyielding Strength
Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj also gave
Brood of Nozdormu
reputation, at 50 Reputation per boss.
Ossirian the Unscarred
, the final boss, gave 100 Brood of Nozdormu reputation.
Boss Strategy and Loot
The only bosses required to get to
Ossirian the Unscarred
are
Kurinnaxx
and
General Rajaxx
. All the other encounters are optional.
Kurinnaxx
is the most straightforward encounter in AQ20.
He uses
Mortal Wound
on tanks, who had to taunt swap every 3 stacks. The main worry for the rest of the group is the
Sand Trap
s he spawns, which slowly erupt from the ground and leave a nasty debuff when they explode, reducing hit change for both abilities and spells.
Its a basic tank and spank with avoiding traps, so it should go down fairly easily for any competent groups.
Drops:
Belt of the Sand Reaver
,
Sand Reaver Wristguards
,
Belt of the Inquisition
,
Toughened Silithid Hide Gloves
,
Vestments of the Shifting Sands
.
Quest drops:
Qiraji Martial Drape
,
Qiraji Regal Drape
,
Qiraji Magisterial Ring
,
Qiraji Ceremonial Ring
.
General Rajaxx
doesn't immediatly engage your group. Instead, this is more of a gauntlet fight, where Rajaxx sends you waves of mobs before engaging himself. CCs like
Entangling Roots
were a must to keep certain adds under control. On this fight, you're accompanied by
Lieutenant General Andorov
and 4
Kaldorei Elite
, which will tank mobs and help with DPS.
Each add wave has an officer and, if you die, you can release and zone back in after an officer is dead.
The scariest part about Rajaxx himself is his
Thundercrash
, which knocks back a fair distance and deals 40% of a player's current health in damage. This will not kill you by itself, unless you are at exactly 1 hp, but it can kill tanks when coupled with the boss' melee attacks.
Lieutenant General Andorov
turns into a vendor after the encounter is complete, selling Blacksmithing patterns.
Drops:
Legplates of the Qiraji Command
,
Boots of the Qiraji General
,
Bracers of Qiraji Command
,
Southwind's Grasp
,
Boots of the Vanguard
,
Manslayer of the Qiraji
.
Quest drops:
Qiraji Martial Drape
,
Qiraji Regal Drape
,
Qiraji Magisterial Ring
,
Qiraji Ceremonial Ring
.
Moam
is a giant obsidian destroyer and his fight is centered around mana conversation.
His main ability is
Drain Mana
, which will drain the mana off 6 random people and regenerate Moam's own mana. If Moam ever reaches full mana, he will unleash a massive
Arcane Eruption
, and likely cause a wipe. Stacking Warlocks for
, Priests for
Mana Burn
and 1 Hunter for
is the easiest way to deal with this mechanic.
90 seconds after being engaged, Moam will turn into stone and stop draining the raid's mana. After turning to stone, he will summon 3
Mana Fiend
that need to be dealt with. Warlocks are also very valuable here, as they can
Banish
the elementals so the raid can only deal with 1 at a time. After 90 seconds, or Moam reaching 100% mana (since he still regens some naturally on this phase), he will turn back to normal and the fight starts again.
Drops:
Southwind Helm
,
Cloak of the Savior
,
Gauntlets of Southwind
,
Mantle of Maz'Nadir
,
Obsidian Scaled Leggings
,
Ring of Fury
,
Chitinous Shoulderguards
,
Legplates of the Destroyer
,
Eye of Moam
,
Thick Silithid Chestguard
,
Gauntlets of the Immovable
,
Dustwind Turban
,
Talon of Furious Concentration
,
Plans: Black Grasp of the Destroyer
.
Quest drops:
Qiraji Magisterial Ring
,
Qiraji Ceremonial Ring
,
Qiraji Ornate Hilt
,
Qiraji Spiked Hilt
.
Buru the Gorger
is a giant beetle, surrounded by
Buru Egg
s. Buru can't be tanked, and must instead be kited around. When a Buru Egg dies, it will explode, dealing damage to everyone nearby and take a huge chunk of Buru's health if he's close to the egg. The raid must damage the eggs and prepare to kill them when Buru is brought close to them. Buru will slowly increase its movement speed till he gets hit by an egg.
When an egg explodes, it will also spawn a
Hive'Zara Hatchling
that can be easily tanked and killed.
When Buru reaches 20%, his carapace will break, unleashing
Creeping Plague
on the raid. At this point, Buru can be tanked normally and has to be killed fast, as the plague's damage will increase the longer the fight goes on.
Drops:
Slime Kickers
,
Fetish of Chitinous Spikes
,
Scaled Bracers of the Gorger
,
Quicksand Waders
,
Slimy Scaled Gauntlets
,
Buru's Skull Fragment
,
Gloves of the Swarm
.
Quest drops:
Qiraji Magisterial Ring
,
Qiraji Ceremonial Ring
,
Qiraji Martial Drape
,
Qiraji Regal Drape
,
Qiraji Ornate Hilt
,
Qiraji Spiked Hilt
.
Ayamiss the Hunter
is a flying bug, and her fight has 2 phases.
On the first phase, she will be airborne. Ranged DPS needs to DPS her down to 70%, while being careful to not get too many stacks of
Poison Stinger
. A mage/warlock with high Nature Resistance or even a tank with a NR setup can "tank" her on this phase.
Through the fight, Ayamiss will spawn a swarm of
Hive'Zara Swarmer
. Those are easily AoE'd down but their melee attacks hurt, so have tanks estabilish threat then dps them down. Also, Ayamiss will randomly bind a player to her altar and attempt to sacrifice them. A
Hive'Zara Larva
will spawn to the left or the right of the altar, and it must die before reaching the player on the altar, or else it will kill the player and turn into a powerful elite.
Once Ayamiss reaches 70%, she will land and wipe all aggro. Tanks must estabilish threat and tank her preferably on the top of her altar. The rest of the fight goes on all as normal, with AoE mobs and sacrifices, till she's dead.
Drops:
Scaled Silithid Gauntlets
,
Boots of the Desert Protector
,
Helm of Regrowth
,
Ring of the Desert Winds
,
Gauntlets of the Immovable
,
Stinger of Ayamiss
,
Bow of Taut Sinew
.
Quest drops:
Qiraji Magisterial Ring
,
Qiraji Ceremonial Ring
,
Qiraji Martial Drape
,
Qiraji Regal Drape
,
Qiraji Ornate Hilt
,
Qiraji Spiked Hilt
.
Ossirian the Unscarred
is the final boss of AQ20. Ossirian starts the fight in what's called
Supreme Mode
, which increases his damage enough to 1-shot the tank. You can dispell Supreme Mode by bringing Ossirian to
Ossirian Crystal
s that are spread across the room. Activating a crystal puts a 45 second debuff on him that reduces his damage done and applies a spell vulnerability on it. If you don't keep bringing Ossirian to new crystals, he will return to Supreme Mode and likely 1-shot the tank.
The best way to deal with crystal scouting is to have a player whose DPS you won't miss stay mounted. This mounted person is in charge of finding crystals spread across the giant room, and signaling the tanks to bring Ossirian there. He will also pull the boss and attract Ossirian to the first crystal. Crystals must be activated before Ossirian arrives, as they have a cast time.
You also want to assign players to arrive at the crystals to click them. Druids and Mages are great for this, with
Blink
and
Travel Form
.
Drops:
Sandstorm Cloak
,
Leggings of the Black Blizzard
,
Shackles of the Unscarred
,
Gloves of Dark Wisdom
,
Crossbow of Imminent Doom
,
Gauntlets of New Life
,
Ossirian's Binding
,
Runic Stone Shoulders
,
Sand Polished Hammer
,
Helm of Domination
,
Bracers of Brutality
,
Mantle of the Horusath
,
Staff of the Ruins
.
Quest drops:
Head of Ossirian the Unscarred
,
Qiraji Magisterial Ring
,
Qiraji Ceremonial Ring
,
Qiraji Martial Drape
,
Qiraji Regal Drape
,
Qiraji Ornate Hilt
,
Qiraji Spiked Hilt
.
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj
The
Ahn'Qiraj
is a 40-man zone and the second hardest raid of Vanilla. With 9 bosses, 3 of them being optional, the first few bosses were considered as easy as the later bosses in
Molten Core
. The later bosses were harder than anything seen in the game at the time.
Like Molten Core and
Blackwing Lair
, Ahn'Qiraj also had a focus on resistances, using
Nature Resistance
this time. Guilds spent a good while farming good Nature Resistance for the later bosses that had high resistance requirements. In our
Green Dragon Spotlight
post, we rounded up all Nature Resistance Gear available back during Classic.
Reputation
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj gives
Brood of Nozdormu
reputation, with the following values:
Trash mobs in Temple of Ahn'Qiraj give
100 Reputation
, lasting till Neutral.
Completing a Tier 2.5 quest gives
250 Reputation
.
Qiraji Lord's Insignia
drops from all bosses but C'Thun, and can be turned in for
500 Reputation
.
Ancient Qiraji Artifact
is a rare drop from trash mobs, and can be turned in for
1000 Reputation
.
It is recommended to save all artifacts and insignias and only turn them in after Neutral, as trash mobs will stop giving reputation by then.
C'Thun
gives
2500 Reputation
on death.
Tier Sets and Blessed Qiraji Weapons
This raid dropped the called
Tier 2.5
, with all sets having strong Qiraji themes into them. The tier sets are:
Avenger's Battlegear
- Paladin
Conqueror's Battlegear
- Warrior
Deathdealer's Embrace
- Rogue
Doomcaller's Attire
- Warlock
Enigma Vestments
- Mage
Garments of the Oracle
- Priest
Genesis Raiment
- Druid
Stormcaller's Garb
- Shaman
Striker's Garb
- Hunter
Obtaining this tier is different from Tier 1 and Tier 2: You need reputation with
Brood of Nozdormu
, as well as a quest drop from bosses, and an assortment of uncommon idols and scarabs. Idols are found inside
Large Scarab Coffer
that are scattered within the raid and can be opened with
that drops from bosses. Scarabs can also be found inside these caches, as well as inside
Scarab Coffer
in Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj. The NPCs
Andorgos
,
Vethsera
and
Kandrostrasz
give you the quests for the tier armor, and can be found right after killing
The Prophet Skeram
.

Trio
,
Viscidus
and
Ouro
were optional encounters, and not needed to reach the final boss,
C'Thun
. The bosses are displayed in the order they can be encountered through the instance.
The Prophet Skeram
is the first boss of Ahn'Qiraj, and a religious leader among the Qiraji. Every 25%, Skeram will split into 3 copies and those need to be tanked separately. Tanks and at least 1 Rogue need to be in position to interrupt
Arcane Explosion
and prevent the copies from spamming
Earth Shock
. Skeram can also mind control targets with
True Fulfillment
, and Mages should be ready to crowd control the mind controls with
Polymorph
.
He starts the fight at the bottom of the stairs on his platform and copies spawn on top of stairs both up and to the sides.

Princess Yauj
,
Lord Kri
and
Vem
compose the silithid royalty, the first optional bosses in AQ. These bosses have a unique situation where their loot drops change depending on the order the bugs die. The easiest order is with Vem dying last, and the hardest, with Lord Kri dying last.
Princess Yauj
has an AOE fear that will wipe aggro, so she needs to be tanked as far away from the raid as possible. She will also cast
Great Heal
that needs to be interrupted. When Yauj dies, she will spawn small insects that can be AOE'd down and crowd controlled with abilities like
Frost Nova
.
Drops if Yauj dies last:
Mantle of Phrenic Power
,
Bile-Covered Gauntlets
,
Mantle of the Desert's Fury
,
Mantle of the Desert Crusade
,
Ukko's Ring of Darkness
.
Lord Kri
has a frontal cleave and a
Toxic Volley
that deals high damage. Hunters can help mitigate the aura with
Aspect of the Wild
. On death, he will
Summon Poison Cloud
, dealing high damage to players who stand in it.
Drops if Kri dies last:
Vest of Swift Execution
,
Ring of the Devoured
,
Petrified Scarab
,
Wand of Qiraji Nobility
.
Vem
has a charge and a knockback attack. He deals very little damage to a tank, but those charges really hurt cloth wearers if they get hit. If he's the last boss alive, grouping up on him makes the last part of the fight much easier. On death, he will enrage both Yauj and Kri.
Drops if Vem dies last:
Gloves of Ebru
,
Ooze-ridden Gauntlets
,
Boots of the Fallen Hero
,
Angelista's Charm
.
Shared Drops:
Cape of the Trinity
,
Robes of the Triumvirate
,
Ternary Mantle
,
Guise of the Devourer
,
Triad Girdle
,
Angelista's Touch
.

Battleguard Sartura
is the second mandatory boss in Ahn'Qiraj, and is accompanied by 3
Sartura's Royal Guard
s. Both Sartura and her guards are vulnerable to stuns and have similar abilities.
During
Whirlwind
, both Sartura and her adds will be immune to stuns, and will spin, dealing massive damage. Melee attackers need to be aware and move away from her. If a spinning add starts chasing after you, run as fast as you can. Both Sartura and her adds also reset threat for a couple seconds and will start chasing random players. If you're a ranged DPS, you will want to stay far away to avoid getting melee'd by them. Sartura's Guards can also
Knockback
random targets, sending them flying a fair distance.
Sartura herself needs 2 well-geared tanks. Sartura's adds have no aggro table but will still be drawn to tanks with Taunts, so taunt them as much as you can. The raid needs to burst down these adds, then move on to Sartura. Remember that both Sartura and the adds can get stunned (with the exception of Sartura during Whirlwind), so abuse stuns like
Kidney Shot
and if you're Alliance,
Hammer of Justice
.
Drops:
Necklace of Purity
,
Leggings of the Festering Swarm
,
Recomposed Boots
,
Robes of the Battleguard
,
Silithid Claw
,
Thick Qirajihide Belt
,
Creeping Vine Helm

Fankriss the Unyielding
is the third mandatory boss in AQ40. His melee attacks are very weak, but he has a stacking
Mortal Wound
, so your 2 weakest tanks can handle him fine by rotating him and taunt swapping every 3 or so stacks.
The main difficulty on this fight is the 3 bug tunnels around Fankriss. These tunnels will spawn
Vekniss Hatchling
s every minute. Those can be off-tanked for most of the fight, as they deal light damage to tanks, but they will teleport and root a player to an alcove. They need to be periodically AoE'd down by the raid.
Fankriss will also summon
Spawn of Fankriss
in groups of 3, and those need to be tanked and DPS'd down as soon as possible. They will enrage after 20 seconds, 1-shotting everyone but tanks. The fight is all about add control.
Quest Drops:
Imperial Qiraji Armaments
,
Imperial Qiraji Regalia
.

Viscidus
is the second optional boss in Ahn'Qiraj. This boss is much harder than his predecessors and took more than a month to die compared to earlier bosses. Viscidus was also one of the most unique bosses in all of Classic, with his freeze and shatter mechanics.
You will want at least your melee and tank players with high Nature Resistance gear, as his
Poison Bolt Volley
hurts a lot. It is also recommended to chug
Greater Nature Protection Potion
s through the fight. This fight has 2 main phases, Freezing Phase and Shattering Phase.
On the
Freezing Phase
, you were required to use Frost attacks to freeze Viscidus. It didn't matter how strong the Frost attack was, only the number of hits, so players were allowed to get inventive. Lots of Mages casting Rank 1
Frostbolt
were a must. Warlocks and Priests would use fast Frost Damage wands and just wand the boss through the phase.
Wand of Biting Cold
was fairly easy to obtain for this purpose. Melee could also apply
Frost Oil
on their weapons. Horde had the advantage in this fight since Shaman had access to
. Viscidus started the fight attacking super fast, and would slow down as he received attacks:
Viscidus begins to slow. - After 100 Frost attacks, movement and attack speed slowed by 15%.
Viscidus is freezing up. - After 150 Frost attacks, movement and attack speed slowed by 30%.
Viscidus is frozen solid. - After 200 Frost attacks, Freezing Phase ends here.
Once Viscidus is frozen solid, the
Shattering Phase
starts - All players must start meleeing Viscidus with their fastest weapons. Again, what mattered was the number of attacks, not the damage. Viscidus will thaw out after 15 seconds if not enough melee attacks happen. If Viscidus thaws, you'll need to freeze him and start the process all over again.
Viscidus begins to crack. - Continue attacking.
Viscidus looks ready to shatter. - Continue attacking.
Viscidus explodes! - Shattering Phase ends.
If your raid successfully shatters Viscidus, it will explode into 1 to 20
Globes of Viscidus
. Each globe represents 5% of his total health and must be killed to reduce that much of his total health. Globes will slowly make their way to the middle of the room and gradually gain speed. They can't be slowed or crowd controlled, so they must be focused down. They will only affect Viscidus' health if they die. After all remaining globes reach the center of the room, Viscidus will reform, starting the fight over. Viscidus will die once he gets shattered while below 5% health.
Drops:
Gauntlets of Kalimdor
,
Slime-coated Leggings
,
Sharpened Silithid Femur
,
Gauntlets of the Righteous Champion
,
Ring of the Qiraji Fury
,
Scarab Brooch
.

Princess Huhuran
is the fourth mandatory boss in Ahn'Qiraj, and considered to be the first wall of the instance. The wall was mainly because of her gear requirements: You needed at least 15 players with high Nature Resistance, and the fight had a tight enrage timer of 5 minutes. Although only those 15 players needed massive amounts of Nature Resistance, it was recommended for all the raid to have at least some NR in its gear.
Huhuran is immune to taunts and has a stackable dot on the tank in the form of
Acid Spit
. Tank swaps were tricky but possible by having the main tank stop attacking her and allow the second tank to build enough threat. Alliance guilds could use
to ease the swap. Her other main ability is
, which stuns enemies and deals high damage if dispelled.
DO NOT DISPELL THIS!
The damage is likely to kill non tank players if dispelled. She will also throw
Noxious Poison
that silences people around the target, so the rest of the raid not soaking need to be spread out.
The reason you need players at high NR close to her happens at 30% of her life: She will
Berserk
, doubling her attack speed. Together with that, she will start throwing
Poison Bolt
every 2 seconds to the 15 closest people. Those people need to be kept alive at all costs, as if even only 1 of them dies, the fight will start to snowball as Poison Bolts will hit people outside the meat wall and likely killing them fast.
Drops:
Huhuran's Stinger
,
Cloak of the Golden Hive
,
Gloves of the Messiah
,
Wasphide Gauntlets
,

The Twin Emperors,
Emperor Vek'lor
and
Emperor Vek'nilash
, are the fifth mandatory boss in Ahn'Qiraj. These 2 Emperors must be tanked separately at a distance, as they can heal each other with
Heal Brother
if close together. The Twin Emperor share a health pool, but it's impossible to cleave them due to their immunities and how far they need to be tanked from each other.
Emperor Vek'lor
is the magic brother, has a mana bar, and is immune to all physical damage. He can be tanked by a Warlock using some Shadow Resistance gear, as his main attack is
Shadow Bolt
. Use
to snap threat and damage him as normal, using
on cooldown. All magic DPS should be damaging this emperor. Melee DPS will likely not be able to even get close as
Arcane Burst
knocks them back a good distance and deals high damage.
Emperor Vek'nilash
is the melee brother, swings a giant sword, and is immune to all magic damage. You will need 2 tanks to swap after a
Unbalancing Strike
. He will also
Mutate Bug
, empowering one of the many small bugs in the room. Those have to be killed as soon as possible, as they have no aggro table and will start smacking healers.
The main difficulty of this fight lies on
Twin Teleport
. Every 30 to 40 seconds, the Twin Emperors will switch places. You need to plan accordingly, all DPS needs to move to the other Emperor a few seconds before the switch, and the Warrior/Warlock tanks need to plan for the switch as well.
Vek'lor Drops:
Boots of Epiphany
,
Qiraji Execution Bracers
,
Vek'lor's Gloves of Devastation
,
Royal Qiraji Belt
,
Ring of Emperor Vek'lor
,
Royal Scepter of Vek'lor

,
Belt of the Fallen Emperor
,
Amulet of Vek'nilash

Ouro uses
Sand Blast
as a threat wipe mechanic. He will Sand Blast in the direction of the tank, every 20 to 25 seconds, so potential off-tanks and melee DPS need to be directly behind the sandworm. The new tank must position themselves after a Sand Blast and work on threat. Ouro can also
Sweep
tanks and temporarily lose threat on them. If no enemies are in melee range of Ouro, he will throw rocks at everyone.
Ouro can also submerge, becoming untargettable. While submerged, he will
Summon Ouro Mounds
, which will summon mounds that explode, dealing huge nature damage. Once Ouro emerges, he will also evoke
Ouro Scarab
. Each scarab fixates on a target and never swaps. They can be killed but despawn on their own after 45 seconds.
At 20%, Ouro will
Ouro
, becoming much stronger. He also will stop submerging, but continue spawning scarabs and mounds as if he were submerged.

C'Thun
is the final boss of Ahn'Qiraj. One of the four Old Gods, weakened by the Titans, C'Thun was one of the most durable WoW bosses, surviving for 113 days before its demise.
C'Thun is a 2-phase fight. In the first phase, you will be dealing with the
Eye of C'Thun
. Eye of C'Thun has 2 abilities, Eye Beam and Dark Glare.
Eye Beam
is a green beam that deals nature damage and jumps to nearby targets, increasing damage with each jump. Eye Beam targets are completely random, and the raid must be spread out at least 5 yards apart to prevent the jump.
happens once the Eye of C'Thun turns red, and he will start slowly beaming the room either clockwise or counterclockwise. This red eye beam is a 1-shot to anyone that touches it.
Additionally, the Eye of C'Thun will spawn
Eye Tentacle
, that have little health but cast
. Mind Flay can be interrupted. Be aware of Eye Beams when moving to those adds.
Claw Tentacle
also have little health, but are more annoying with their
Hamstring
and knockback into
Ground Rupture
s.
Phase 1 ends when the Eye of C'Thun is killed. If no tentacles are alive during the transition to Phase 2, you'll be able to go out of combat and drink for a few seconds.
C'Thun
will spawn with a shield that reduces all damage done to him.
Eye Tentacle
will spawn more frequently. C'Thun will also spawn
Giant Claw Tentacle
s and
Giant Eye Tentacle
s, bigger versions of the aforementioned tentacles, but this time they need to be tanked. Giant Eye Tentacles can be stunlocked, and this must be used to your raid's advantage.
To be able to damage C'Thun, you will need to weaken him from the inside. Every 10 seconds, a tentacle will capture a random player, whom will be eaten by C'Thun. Inside C'Thun's stomach, there's 2
Flesh Tentacle
s, which must be killed. However, you will receive stacks of
Digestive Acid
while inside his stomach, so you can't stay out there for very long. There is also 3 landmasses on C'Thun's stomach, one of them with a black-ish circle. Standing on it will make C'Thun spit you out.
Killing both Flesh Tentacles will weaken C'Thun for 45 seconds. During this time he'll take normal damage and won't spawn any more tentacles. If there's a Giant Claw Tentacle alive, don't stop tanking it. Once the 45 seconds are over, C'Thun will become immune again, and Phase 2 carries over as normal. Rinse and repeat till C'Thun is dead.

Fun Facts and Trivia
Lieutenant General Andorov
, the NPC that helps you during the
General Rajaxx
fight, is a reference to the movie
Commando
, with Arnold Schwarzenegger. When you engage Rajaxx, Andorov will yell, Remember, Rajaxx, when I said I'd kill you last? I lied..., which is almost an exact replica from
Schwarzenegger's quote on the movie
.
Ouro
is full of references to the series of novels
Dune
. The boss himself is based on sandworms that were lethal in the series, and
Jom Gabbar
is an obvious reference to the
Gom Jabbar
, a poisonous needle that could be attached to a person's fingertip.
To this day, the trash leading to C'Thun is considered one of the worst in the history of WoW raiding.
So much that a guild resorted to model editing to attempt to skip this trash and ended up getting a permaban!
C'Thun
was never beaten before nerfs. The fight was released with tentacles that would knock you to the ceiling of C'Thun's room, dealing lethal fall damage, or even tentacles spawning outside the room but still attacking players. Top guilds back in the day actually
went as far as sharing insights on the WoW forums.
C'Thun was finally nerfed on April 25th, 2006, and guilds killed him within 2 hours of said nerfs going live.
Another infamous C'Thun exploit was using
Disgusting Oozeling
while in C'Thun's stomach. Spamming the companion pet would eventually overwrite the 8 debuffs limit because of it's
Oozeling's Disgusting Aura
, removing
Digestive Acid
and allowing people to stay inside his stomach for longer.
