Dornogal is awash with gossip on the 11.0.5 PTR, from goblins whispering about a mysterious island to Arathi constructing a new airbase on the surface. Is this merely idle worldbuilding, or are these hints at upcoming patches?
Goblins and the Mysterious Island Crystal
Next to the Delve headquarters in Dornogal, Trade Prince Gazlowe's assistant Skaggit can be found conversing with a member of Gazlowe's Greasemonkeys, Ricket. The latter has recently come back from an expedition across the sea, and Skaggit quickly wants to capitalize on what she found.
Skaggit and Ricket aren't the only ones talking about their new discovery, either. According to a handful of gossiping Earthen, people all around the city have been discussing the strange new island and its crystal, including the Arathi.
The Arathi's New Airbase
The Arathi aren't merely in the city to discuss rumors, either. Engineers from Hallowfall can now be found all around the city, interacting with vendors and trainers alike now that they have a break from the onslaught against their settlements below.
According to a few Earthen 'Stormrangers', the Arathi aren't coming to the surface merely to peddle goods and learn new trades, either. They seem to be building a new base on the Isle of Dorn, a project that will require the cooperation of the region's Earthen leadership.
Further information can be found near the Forgegrounds themselves, where an Arathi shipwright can be found discussing exactly what this new Arathi settlement will be -- an airbase. While she remains secretive as to the purpose of building airships on the surface, it is clear that it is for more than simple trade.
The Earthen's New Fighting Force
The aforementioned 'Stormrangers' are not merely a fancy title for a handful of gossiping Earthen. Speaking with the newly dubbed Stormranger Kothilde, we learn that Stormward Lufsela has appointed her the leader of a new division of the Stormriders, who serve to protect the Earthen traveling outside the reaches of Khaz Algar, and to inform their leadership council of any threats beyond their shores.
Encrypted Silver Covenant Questgiver
Along with these more active gossip options, there is also an encrypted questgiver sitting in Dornogal on the PTR, a high elf wearing Silver Covenant armor. Any kind of text or even a proper name from her is currently not able to be gleaned, but the fact that it is an encrypted questline likely entails something significant.
While she has been oddly absent from
The War Within
thus far, an NPC of the Silver Covenant's leader Vereesa Windrunner was datamined back at the start of the 11.0.5 PTR (albeit incorrectly named as 'Vareesa'), suggesting that this quest will involve her in some form.
Vereesa's original misspelled NPC vs her correctly named one from later builds.
Given the relative lack of focus on the citizens of Dalaran in the wake of their city's destruction, this quest could perhaps be a breadcrumb that leads us to properly address the state of the Kirin Tor and its sub-factions as they recover from their loss.
Hints at 11.1?
On their own, any one of these gossip options might seem like a bit of engaging world progression, or a tease for a future side storyline. Put together, however, they paint a much more cohesive picture for what we might expect in our next steps of the main story.
Based on what the Earthen surmise, it seems like the Arathi are as interested as the goblins are in the crystal on this mysterious island. Given the speed at which they are suddenly constructing this airbase on the surface, it isn't hard to put the pieces together and assume that the Arathi will be setting out to find this crystal at the same time as Gazlowe and his crew. While we've been given hints abound during our time in Azj-Kahet as to the mysteries of Undermine, this island seems to be an unknown even to the goblins, leading one to wonder how the two may be connected.
Could these conversations be related to the immediate future in the 11.0.5 and 11.0.7 sub-patches, or could this mysterious island be our setting for the upcoming patch 11.1? Between the lingering story threads relating to the Haranir and their sacred Great Roots, Gazlowe's search for the Undermine, the current absence of Xal'atath, and now these rumors, candidates for our next major patch are far from scarce. Let us know what you think!
