Goblin Land Mines are deployed by targetting the ground (like Repair bots). The deployment range is VERY small. After which, the mine take 10 seconds to arm itself. Then when an enemy gets VERY close it explodes causing AE fire damage within a SMALL range.

i have found if you want to maximize damage as a hunter but an imolation or explosive trap on the mine and pull a mob...get the job done for me anyway

Trap+mine is a good combo, but it takes 10 seconds to arm (lame!) and also only lasts a minute. Since this mine is MADE and not created by a SKILL, it should lasts for 3-5 minutes instead of 1 minute like the traps. If it lasted that long, it would be worth setting in the flag in wsg, along with the frost trap.

It does good damage, and more damage than other created explosives at it's level (probably because it is more limited than a thrown grenade).

None the less, it needs to last longer (or arm faster) to be really worth using as a DEFENSIVE measure. ATM it is only really worth using when you see the enemy incomming or setting up an ambush for a group/boss.

I was kind of let down to see this is the only type of mine. This mine becomes near useless at mid level, so I hope Blizzard decides to make a higher quality schematic sometime soon, or at least say they are planning on it. But I suppose every bit of damage is handy in wsg against a flag thief...

Its perfect item for rogue, cheap shot (+ premed if have) enemy and drop mine, kidney, gouge.. .KABAM ;)

This is extremely damaging in the 29 bracket and the best use for this is by putting it next to your flag in WSG. This mine will take off 1/3 of even the best equipped twinks and will one shot lesser geared players trying to take the flag. It also good to detect stealthed rogues but planting it down and standing on it.

If you got some of these lying around, it's fun to place these in front of lowbie docking areas (Menethil harbour works)
and view the chaos from a distant with eagle eye, telescopes etc.
A great griefing tool

This is possibly the best Item for defence on WSG as a level 19 twink, It causes a good majority of damage, and Heck on the horde side you can place it in the flag hole and the alliance will never notice it!

Makes me wonder the uses of this and the bomb sheep in a PvP situation.

Maybe is the edge a tank class would need to handle a caster.

I dropped a land mine in front of Van Cleef. He ran out. Ran right over the thing and it didn't blow up.

What gives? Is this thing bugged or something?

ive only had it fail once. i was laying the mine and it blew up. apart from that its fine. fun to lay them down outside stormwind etc

First time I ever made one, and it was post-patch.

Goblin land mine drew agro the instant it was placed. It has to be placed pretty close, nearly at one's feet.

Seemed to be like a target dummy that explodes when armed after 10 seconds. I was concerned it was going to be destroyed first by the mobs pounding it, but it did survive until detonation.

i'm alliance and was in thousand needles, and put two mines at the bottom of the great lift, where people get off, and waited off to the side for awhile, ended up killing 2rogues as they got off

Works perfectly.

Usage

Lay one near your feet.
It beeps and makes the 'agro red flashing effect' for a few seconds (about 10secs i think) whilst it arms. During this time it agros all mobs within a few yards of it. It is quite easy to kill in this period without it going off
After it stops beeping and flashing it is armed and will explode when a mob walks over it or stands on it. It will explode once and damage one mob, then it will disapear.
The explosion effect when it blows up isnt big (a brief burn flame effect around the mob) and i dont recall it making a 'boom' noise like a grenade or bomb. (i think this my be the reason why people dont think its working) - Check your combat log
It will stay on the ground in its armed state for 1 min before vanishing, if it is not triggered.
I has a 1 minute cooldown , and as it only last one minute if its not triggered, I dont see how it would be possible for a single player to place more than one of these at a time.

Hints and tips

Place out of combat. Wait until its armed (the beeping stops) before pulling
Inform the rest of the party if you are going to use these, see above.
Use on 'end bosses' in instances.
Not too expensive to make (most costly component is the 1 gold bar per 3 mines)
Like most engineering things, the sooner in you're chars 'life' the better, as X damage hurts lower mobs more compaired to higher level mobs.

Very nice for Battlegrounds Capture the Flag(CTF)

Time the 'laying' well so it doesnt dissapear before it gets stepped on.
Lay them in the corridors leading to your sides flag room.
If you are feeling evil place one under your teams flag.
Taking CTF seriously? : Ask any of your team members if they have the req engineering level to use these too, if so give them one,and everyone pile them up under your flag -> instant-death for the first enemy flag grabber. (not tried this yet, but i cant see why it wouldnt work)
Time the 'laying' well so it doesnt dissapear before it gets stepped on. (repeated for importance)

well, it's now jan2, and these silly things still do not work for me.

yes, i am waiting for the 10 second arming cycle. when pulling a mob over it, they do quite a bit of sparking and smoking, but zero damage. this is evidenced by not only my combat log, but the L8 boar that i tested it on, which should have instantly incinerated.

I belive I've tested this enough times to know how they work. They are quite useful sometimes and totally useless other times. First you lay it and it says it will be armed in 10 seconds. About 20-25 seconds later it actually is armed because I've seen enemies walk over it after it says its armed and it does nothing.

If it too much time elapses after laying it, it will either fail or blow nothing up or something. Because of this, when using in battle grounds, only use when you know someone will be there kinda soon. Because of this its a little hard to use properly in WSG. I plant one in AB when someone says the node im gaurding has a group incoming.

There was one time this actually saved a AB node. I was fighting a rogue vs rogue battle solo defending the node. I almost killed him and he vanished. I laid the mine at the flag and stealthed. He was higher lvl so I knew he would probably find me before I find him. Sure enough I get sapped by him but hes only at less than 1/3 life. He starts trying to get the flag and BOOM he dies and the flag is safe :) Use them creativly.

Prior to 1.11, one of the greatest things about these land mines was they had a separate cooldown timer from your other explosives, so I could set a landmine then toss some dynamite in a kind of one-two punch. With the release of 1.11, they all share the same cooldown timer now so I can only use one or the other at a time now. :-\

They are still incredibly useful when implemented properly though. You can take those swarms of scorpids in Uldaman down to 1/3 health in one blast with one of these, to be easily finished off by your aoe spell of choice.

this isn't a goblin engineering item, so you shouldn't have any problem, whether you're gnomish or goblin.

this is good for hunters in PVP . Set your trap frost trap and when you see enemy approch place a mine next to it. The mine arms, they stop moving fast and bam there hurt bad

this thing totallyy OWNS in wsg 20-29 i got 1 on my 29 twink and i always place it at flag when i see some1 is comming yesturday a 20 mage run in to it and died hehe ... totally owns...

i brought a stack of these to my kara run a while ago but i still remember the chaos that they caused. I put one down where curator turns around and pats back, but as soon as he was in view he ran straight for the mine. Obviously one shotted it and ran straight for the raid and killed us all ^^....good times

think of this like a hunter trap. takes 10 sec to arm and then evaporates after 1 minute if not tripped - but unlike a hunter trap, you can drop in during melee. Can only set one at a time, and cold-down timer does NOT start until after it goes off or evaporates. ALSO - it is on same timer as a dragonling - i.e. cant use dragon while mine is out, and the one minute cooldown blocks the dragon use a well (found this out fighting final boss in uldaman)

these things never seem to go off in the BG when I place them. They are armed, enemy walks over them 10 seconds after they complete arming... nothing happens. Ever. 10 later and not a single explosion.

In warsong gulch you can place these near the flags. If every person in the raid placed one of these at the flag, anyone who tried to capture it would be hit with around 3940-5060 instant damage.

Highly unlikely, but it would still be helpful even if there were only a couple engineers with these in the BG.

Or worse, this tactic in a 40-man raid on a pull. =)

You can start getting these at level 20, which I suspect is probably the best use for them.Tried one of these buggers in Wetlands while on a murloc killing quest. Set one out, waited or timer, grabbed-up about ten murlocks and took them to the mine and BOOM! None died, but they all were low enough on health to scatter.

Kind of expensive way to quest, but it reeeeeeally puts some fun back into leveling a tank.
