The BoA gear scales depending on your level.

For example, Grand Staff of Jordan, may only give one or two stamina to a level 1, but it would give 103 to a level 80.

Each BoA item is supposed to be equal to a good blue of that level.

These apparently drop off of ANY Boss in ~~the Northrend~~ WotLK Dungeons, as long as your side (Alliance or Horde) has control of Lake Wintergrasp.

I believe this may have to do with giving people the ability to buy the metagems, instead of just paying stone keeper's shards. If JC's can make them, you have the option.

If that's their goal, other proffs become irrelevant because you can't buy other proffs' wares for stone keeper's shards

Note that all of the armor and weapons, shoulder enhancements (inscriptions), and head enhancements (arcanums) purchased with these shards, and all of the gems cut with patterns purchased with these shards, have PvP-oriented stats. Given that these shards are rewarded from PvP activity (even if it isn't yours), that makes sense.

The PvP stats and ratings that appear are:

Resilience: Reduces probability of being hit with a critical strike, damage from when you get hit with a critical strike, and damage from damage-over-time effects. While primarily a PvP stat, this is also moderately useful for tanks that can't get crit immunity via talents or defense rating.
Spell Penetration: Ignores some of the target's resistance to the school of spells you're casting. This reduces the possibility that the spell will be fully or partially resisted. Note that it does not affect the probability that the spell will miss entirely (that's level-based and affected by hit rating). Resistances cannot be lowered past zero, so this is only useful against targets with resistance. Most monsters have little or no spell resistance, so this is a PvP stat.
Fear, Stun, Snare/Root, and Silence Duration Reduction: PvP opponents use these skills constantly to cripple each other, so this is another good PvP stat. Some PvE bosses use these abilities as well, so these are decent PvE skills. In particular, healers will appreciate silence duration reduction.
Minor Run Speed Increase: PvP opponents are constantly trying to outmaneuver each other, so this offers a small advantage in doing that. It's also handy for PvE, especially for melee character in fights where they have to move around a lot between multiple targets.

The shoulder items are particularly intriguing, as they all offer 10% more experience for monsters killed. They are clearly intended to be handed down to low-level alts. Note that, in addition to this clearly PvE stat, they also have resilience. So, they're good for PvE and PvP.

So... just to be sure I understand: if I save up my shards and purchase one of these items, it's bound to my account only - I can send it to an alt when I want to level them, and then send it back to my main to wear, too?

That's pretty awesome.

Edited: Okay, I spoke with Game Master Abbix about an unrelated issue, and asked this question at the end. He said that while you can trade the items with your alts and back again, i.e. the shoulder items for the extra exp, "the bind of account items won't take most of the enhancements". That makes sense, if they're scaleable, since the enhancements aren't.

I don't know if I'am the only one with this problem, or I might just be stupid... but yesterday I went hc nexus... we had the wintergrasp buff, all in the party except me could loot the Shards.. then I realized that I had 150, and thought "perhaps you can only have 150 at a time", so I went to wintergrasp after the run, only to realize that some items costs 300 shards...
So what I'am asking, how can you get more than 150 shards? or did I maybe just have a problem being unable to loot the shards

This is not true of druids as of WotLK:

From what I have noticed when doing instances if your faction loses control of Wintergrasp and you die regardless of whether or not you release you will lose the buff. Leaving the instance will also cause you to lose the buff.

So as long as you don't die or run out you will keep the buff (for now).

At the moment it seems there's a way to gain an infinite number of Stone Keeper's Shards from a single instance, that being Violet Hold in Dalaran.

Once your faction has the Wintergrasp buff active, start a Violet Hold run with a full group. Make it through the first two bosses, then wipe on the mobs afterward. When you release your spirit and re-enter the instance, it'll be completely reset, bosses, trash mobs, loot, everything.

If you don't want to have insane repair bills by the end, make sure you change to your birthday suit after the second boss.

As of this writing I've done Violet Hold twice, wiped three times in the middle of the second run, and came away with around 20 shards total for two runs worth.

Earlier in an Utgarde Keep run we downed the final boss, Ingvar, and he dropped the 4 shards but only for one person, the whole group had to roll on the stack. Unpleasant bug.

They don't; their level 80 main collects the shards and buys the BoA gear with them and then mails said gear to twink alt.

These are now a rolled for item: Meaning that only one person will be able to collect the 4 shards per boss fight, and only when the WG buff is active.

I hope this changes.

Anyone know for sure about the BoA? Got over 300 shards and besides the mount nothing on there my toon needs. Would be nice to get the gun and ship to my alt. Still, at 250 hate to try it and fail.

And if you do send to alt it looses enchants? Scales to alt? Kinda not worth it then either if the alt levels fast then gun will be useless soon enough.

there is a BoA shoulders bought with these shards that grant +10% exp gained from killing mobs. and cloth, leather, mail and Plate options, there great for alts whom you can get power-level runs, or speed-instances done.

I just did reg UK and realised it after wondering how other party members got it and I didn't (weren't in my bags).

Oo.................thats the whole purpose of the items.....they can be shifted to any (yes ANY) of your characters on your realm that can wear the item. So for cloth wearers you buy one cloth shoulder set, and shunt them to any of your clothie toons. the purpose of sending the shards to any character kind of defeats the object.

Any heroic boss drops them, four of them if you control WG. In regulars, 1 drops per boss. They can be collected for cool stuff, a bit pricy but definately worth it.

Anyone else have issue with your shard count updating?

My achievement page says I have 234 / 250, yet my currency tab shows over 300 now...

First ticket I sent in said to delete cache, WTF, and Interface folders, reset everything to defaults, restart computer, etc etc and of course didn't fix it... Second ticket got a reply stating they'll look into it... Just wondering if anyone else had the same issue and found a way to correct it.

Currently, the best thing to do with a large stockpile of these, is to purchase Wintergrasp Commendations. 30 shards will essentially gain you 2000 honor. Since 3.2, you can purchase an uncut epic gem for 10,000 honor from Captain O'Neal for Alliance, or Lady Palanseer for Horde. Long story short, 150 shards will buy you an epic gem.

Can anyone tell me why the weekly quests for Wintergrasp aren't reseting for me? I did all the Wintergrasp quests about 6 months ago and finally decided to come back to do some more pvp stuff but only was able to get 2 quests and now those haven't respawned. It's been 2 weeks.

When you want to farm these quickly and have done all Wintergrasp quests already I suggest you to do toc nonhc runs when Wintergrasp is in your control, 9 shards per run. :)

Amazingly no one else has said this before, so I'll make a note about it here.

When you're buying heirloom items for your alts to aid in their leveling, make sure you buy the right ones! Not only does the item enhancements scale with your level, but the material does as well.

If you buy a cloth shoulder and send it to a warlock, mage, priest, death knight, paladin, rogue - well, any class - it'll be cloth all the way to 80.
If you buy a leather shoulder and send it to any of your characters, it'll still be leather all the way to 80.
But here comes the trick!
If you buy a mail shoulder and send it to any of your characters save hunters and shamans, it'll be mail from level 1 to level 80. However, if you DO send it to a hunter or shaman, it's leather from level 1 through 40, and mail from level 40 through 80.
Likewise, a plate shoulderpiece sent to a paladin or warrior is mail for the first forty levels, then plate as soon as you can wear that. Death knights, since they are never restricted from using plate, always get the plate version, of course.

So remember, if you're shopping shoulders for a hunter, shaman, warrior or paladin, make sure you get MAIL and PLATE shoulders respectively!

Only drops with blessing of wintergrasp. If your lucky you'll be in a realm with your faction at a large majority. Thrall and black dragonflight are good for horde, arathor good for Alliance.

You can also buy Wintergrasp Commendation (2000 honor, BOA transferable to alts) for 30 stone keepers shards at the same vendor that sells the mammoth, pvp gems, and pvp enchants (Wintergrasp Quartermaster)
