Confirmed. These can be skinned of the dragons in Utgarde Keep. Was only skinner and got 3 scales so not too bad drop rate.

Pretty sure these are skinned off of just about any kind of dragonoid that's skin-able in Northrend.

I get at least 10 or so per Oculus run. Make sure your group knows to loot the dragon.

yeah run the violet hold for the shotgun and the skins. i ran it twice an ended up with a little over 20. we did wipe on the void guy twice.
another great place for these is north basin. the dragons and whelps. plus they dont skin scraps so u get more for ur bang

Unless you always have a group available for Violet Hold, I strongly suggest farming these from the Drakes in Sholazar Basin. There is never a shortage of dragons, they aren't particularly strong, and the competition is relatively low.

what boss do you need frost resist for? idk of any but im still 76...if there isnt one then these seem pretty pointless to get except for the leg armor but that only takes 2...

The basin does seem like a good place for high levels or non-hunter leatherworkers, but I'm gonna keep running Violet for the gun, and if there aren't other skinners, you can get a lot of leather. I ran it 4 times this morning with the same group, got about 50 scales and 1 1/2 stacks of heavy borean (after making it with all the normal).

No gun after killing the core hound twice, though :(

Just a heads up for everyone who thinks that the DROPPED BY tab means that you can get these without skinning, it is incorrect.

The mobs posted in the "dropped by" tab here on WoWhead do NOT drop these scales, and anyone wishing to farm them without skinning will be making a long trip for nothing. I was unfortunatly in that boat.

best place i have found is Heroic Violet Hold. if you are the only skinner and if your group loots every corpse you can get about 20~40 pcs. easily

Just outside Dalaran, in The Azure Front, there is a big tree surrounded by dragonkin. Drop rate is pretty good here (about 1/5). Plus, since the tree is so large you can just do circles and the dragonkin will respawn constantly, no need to wait.

In The Storm Peaks, outside a cave with the rhino's, there's alot of dragons falling down from the sky, you don't have to kill anything, just skin them. Pretty good drop rate aswell :)

I got it off the dragonkins in Nexus heroic. I got 7 but I guess there were many more because I was sharing the mobs with another skinner.

As a 78 enhancement Shaman, I found that the best way was:

Equip all healing and mana heavy armor and items.
Kill the dragonkin in The Azure Front.

The Spellweavers, or Spellbinders, gave me a bit of trouble, because of the Arcane Missiles. If you can Earth Shock when they start, it won't be as bad.

These dragonkin have a very good drop rate, as well as very little vendor trash. They only drop money, cloth, and useful stuff.

EDIT: Sorry, I lied. I forgot about the clothing scraps. =O

Be careful putting these on the AH. On my server a stack goes for about 22g which is 2g more than the vendor price. According to my auction mod the deposit is 12g for a stack so you will probably lose money on this. With the new interest in heroics (VH comes to mind) there will be a glut of these so now I just vendor them.

These are about to have another use in 3.2.2 for Drums of Forgotten Kings according to MMO.
It doesn't say how many charges but I would hope for more than one!

These things are pretty worthless, on my realm any way. The new recipes did nothing for them in the AH.

The Primordial Drakes ( level 76-77 ) in the Savage Thicket, Northern Sholazar Basin. Sorry, no cords. About a 15% drop rate.

The best place I've found is in Storm Peaks where the drakes kill and fly off with the rhinos. There are tons flying around, and every once in awhile a Stormpeak Falcon(or whatever they are called) will fly in and kill them all for you. The best part is you can still skin them after they do that.
